The Drayner brothers have always been close. Being twins has a lot to do with it, but they're also connected through their magic—a power that can steal the physical characteristics of anyone they touch. Mark has always been stronger, but he doesn't hesitate to share everything with Travis, including his bed.
As they start their Freshman year in college, Travis notices that Mark's power is increasing at an exponential rate, particularly when Travis is nearly attacked and Mark begins to exact a methodical revenge.
Travis watches his brother's evolution in awe. Mark has promised him a present by the end of the week, but Travis can't help but fear that these changes will rip his other half away from him forever.
Born an Air Force dependent, Rowan McBride traveled the world and totally missed the 80’s as most Americans know it. In exchange, xe’s gotten to walk in clogs, break an arm at Mt. Fuji, and say prayers at a Korean Buddhist temple. So far it seems like a fair trade. Although xe graduated from high school in Hawaii, xe didn’t learn to hula and make leis until going to college in Iowa. After leaving the Midwest, xe moved to Washington, DC and very nearly got xemself a Juris Doctor degree. Now xe’s chilling out in Texas, diabolically planning road trips that could span years.
People say xyr life is random, and that’s probably true. Rowan comforts xemself with the working theory that a random life makes for good stories. When that doesn’t work, there’s Pocky. Lots and lots of Pocky.
So dark and delicious! Succulent sexy piece for deviants who loves power theft and muscle growth stories. Though short, it has met its goals. Gave me chills and thrills reading it. Hell, it was even more impactful than a full length novel.
Love so twisted, wrong and sinful yet so passionate and true. I ship them even knowing it's not right.
I didn't want the story to end and I want MORE. The book made me thirst for more of this dark twisted romance oh so badly. Rowan McBride never lets me down.
Not a bad short, worth reading at least. It didn't connect with me, since I find 'beefing up' and layering on muscle to be more repulsive than attractive, but also because the changes in Mark worried me. Yes, in the short term things could be fine for them and I guess that's the point the author is trying to make. With me though, I kept thinking about how wrong it was, how many things could go bad, how quickly people could get hurt, and I walked away pretty much disliking everything about him as a character.
Their love salvaged a good bit of it, as it was sweet and honest. Beyond that, I really just have no interest in reading it again.
This is another short story in the growing lovers universe of Rowan McBride.
Mark and Travis are twins and lovers. And have also some special powers: they are Drayner, they can drain physical characteristic from other people for a limited amount of time. But Mark is very strong and he manages to drain not only physical characteristic but also wit and intellect. In his esaltation he is becoming like a god and he is unmanageable but by his brother. Cause Mark loves so much his twin Travis, and wants for Travis to be like him.
I have to say that this story has left me a little uncomfortable: Mark and Travis live in a reclusive world where only them count. The outer world, the other people are not important. If Travis would be less gentle and kind, they could be very dangerous. Travis is the counterbalance for Mark, he is the anchor to the sanity for Mark. They have a very dangerous relationship.
As always Rowan McBride writes a story that will not leave you uneffected, even if in only a bunch of pages...
Wow,umm that was definitely a read that would put me off reading anything by this author. I'm willing to give the author a try, but I'm not reading this short story again. Mark was too much like an evil villain and his twin was weak-willed and stupid. Their relationship seemed like one of those abuse ones where they don't even realize they're in a bad situation. It didn't feel loving and I felt no connection to them as characters. I'm pretty open to and adore twincest, but these characters didn't seem well thought out and three-dimensional. I wouldn't recommend such an unromantic short story, unless you like enslaving someone against their will, which I do not.
Until that disturbing and very unpleasant last part, this was 3.5 stars. Yikes! How could that idiot younger twin be okay with this? Ugh! I'd have given this 1 star if I hadn't liked most of it so much.
