The only reason that comes to my mind about why reading this book is that I wanted to know deeper the saga of Twilight, maybe even just the first book.
And, maybe, in the story it could also be included chapters about how the legends of vampires and werewolves were born, about the fact that in many countries people really believe in them and how Stephanie Meyer gets away from herself from the "classic" vampires to write the story of Edward and his family.
Maybe it could also be mentioned some other famous books and movies and, always hypothetically, you could write about what the actors said about the saga over the years; after all, it would be nice to know if Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson find the story interesting or not.
Moreover, in the "guide" you could also explain the story of those vampires who are always in the shadows and whose details aren't known - such as Jane, Alec or Marcus.
Unfortunately for me, our dear Lois Gresh didn't think the same way when she decided to kill some innocent trees to publish her bullshit in paper format.
But 27 pages of idiotic quizzes are not so much when there aren’t enough books to read in the world, right?
In this book there is almost no mention of Stephenie Meyer's saga; the narrative style of the writer is boring, repetitive and she stretches into pages and pages of information not necessary neither to the book not to anything else. Everything she says here has nothing to do with the saga of Twilight. In fact, I doubt she really read the books.
But the thing that irritated me the most is her writing, her interrupting an explanation to make us understand what she thinks and, above all, her joking writing about how to protect our vampire or werewolf from external attacks. The question is spontaneous: has the book been written by a 35-year-old woman or a 10-year-old girl? At that age I didn't believe in these things, but maybe some of you did.
In any case, the writer's approach to the readers is completely wrong; she seems to be making fun of him/her rather than explaining why everyone thinks that a vampire has to sleep in a coffin.

I wish I could give this 0 stars.... this book was written like a high school essay. As a high school English teacher, I will say that it is an A level high school essay, but it is really REALLY tedious all the same.
I about died when I read the following, "Of course, who wants to climb corporate ladders? Personally, I'd much rather have love. This makes me (and possibly you) different from feminist women who desire primarily to acheive their career goals."
WTF????? When was this book written, 1950? Since when does "feminist" mean that you don't get to fall in love? I think Gloria Steinem (and yours truly!) would have a thing or two to say about that. In fact, Bella's character is a wonderful model for feminism. She defies stereotypes, shuns conventionality, and fights back. She does not once sit around and wait for Edward to rescue her.
The book is full of weird, disconjuncted "facts" and opinions about vampires and warewolves, SOME of which match up with the book. I am returning this tomorrow...

I cant lie I bought this book just thinking it would hold some of the excitment and it turns out I would rather have my eyes poked out it I read about 5 pages and skimmed to see and it reads like a 10 year old girl deciding weather to date Edward or Jacob. It is so bad I literraly took the book placed it in my trash can carried it to the Cat box, Sifting my cats large turds out and finally I found something that stank worse than this book! Sorry but this is the biggest waste of $9 I have ever spent I would have rather paid $20 to get one page that just says "This book sucks wait for the official guide" Ok Bye oh and if i could give negative stars I would give this -5!

I made the mistake of trying to read another series companion book, with little success. (My first attempt was another by Lois Gresh, about Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy.) This time, I made it through about thirty-five pages of Gresh's Twilight Companion and felt like I had actually grown dumber through my reading of it--probably because it seems to have been written for a second grade reading level. I pick these "unauthorized guides" up, expecting to learn something new and interesting about the series itself, expecting them to carry an analytical slant. Instead, I learned that Gresh has relatives with similar names to the relatives of the Twilight heroine Bella Swan. And that Gresh lives in a town comparable in size and podunkery to Forks, WA, where Twilight et al. take place. And that, because of these similarities to Bella, Gresh is highly indignant that she, too, didn't meet a paranormal, vampire dreamboat ready to sweep her off her feet. Gee, thanks for sharing! Incredibly silly but also incredibly condescending to her readers, or...just dumbed down to the extreme. I also gleaned, from the first thirty-five pages, that every girl should hold out for a boy with a "nice personality" like Edward's. Nice personality? And what exactly does that mean, Lois Gresh? As far as I can recall, all Stephenie Meyer's leading men (and Edward in particular) tend to be overbearing control-freaks who sometimes engage in emotional blackmail to get their way. I'm not knocking these guys; I just wish Gresh would get real. Even Edward isn't perfect--and no, it's not just because he drinks blood.

Yes and for a good reason!
I finally got around to reading this and I just can't. I can't. There's no way I'm going to be able to get through this. It reads like a pre/teenager has written it and it's not in a good way. As of today, Gresh is 64 which means that she was 52 in 2008 when she wrote it and I'm not at all comfortable with her pouring over a 17-year-old who she describes as sexy and gorgeous. Twilight is aimed at the younger crowd, it's for the pre/teenagers, make no mistake, but way older fans going on about how hot basically-children are is wrong. Same to the 40 something year-old's whose ovaries burst when they see Jacob taking his top off in New Moon.
I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I bought this, but it wasn't that. All I've learnt in the past 24 pages is that Edward is hot, Gresh's family has similar names to his family, that she lives in a place similar to Forks, and that she wonders why she hasn't befriended any mythical creatures yet. I didn't buy this to read about her life story, damn stop making it about you. Not only that, but the topic of the 'companion' is so far removed from the topic of the Saga that it ends up being a bunch of ramblings that vaguely relates to vampire lore. Garlic, stakes, black capes and coffins really has nothing to do with Twilight. As much as I liked Dracula and Interview With a Vampire, I don't care to read about them in a Twilight companion because it's not about that.
Skipping ahead again, to random paragraphs, I just can't believe what I'm reading:
Like not only has she completely misread Jacob's character, there's underlying tones of racism in there and she's attempting to pass off her bias and subjective opinion as fact. It would only be a fact if you're a 12-year-old Team Edward stan obsessed with debating over whether or Edward or Jacob is the hottest, rather than someone who's looking for an analysis about the characters, plot, prose and conflict within the series. This companion is shallow and it feels like it's supposed to be, which is worse because then it's just looks like she's trying too hard.
It's going to straight in the bin.
19/05/20: I bought this off someone on Amazon and judging by the reviews, I've wasted my money. I don't want to reiterate what everyone else is saying but in the first paragraph alone there's already mistakes. Did Gresh read the Saga at all??

Technically a DNF because I gave up half way and skim read the rest. The quizzes and quirks like that are really fun to read (and do) but I feel like the author of this book wasn't as interested in Twilight as she claimed to be. My feminism was triggered and the majority of this book wasn't even about Twilight. I honestly disliked this book other than the quizzes (which can probably be found online).
I only paid £1.25 for this book and honestly, after reading it, I wouldn't even pay that.

This book was terrible, she knew nothing about Twilight, and then when I thought it could not get any worse she brought up toe sucking. She also suggested giving up garlic so Edward would love you (not a sacrifice I would make for any man, and certainly not him). She was also weirdly obsessed with hating Jacob and kept bringing up bestiality to the point where it was concerning.

This was not really a guide at all. This is basically just the author proposing fictional scenarios and wondering what it would be like to be Edward’s girlfriend. Which, valid, but this is not a guide to the series lol.

Inaccurate and poorly written
Unfortunately for fans of the Twilight Saga, this unauthorized companion will not sate any thirst you may have as you wait for the official guide to come out. As other reviewers have mentioned, the book was riddled with inaccuracies about the plot and characters in the Twilight series. These weren't small misses either. For example, claims that Edward is able to project thoughts onto Bella's mind (which he can't, per the books) and Bella's age are significant plot notes. The list of inaccuracies in this guide goes on and on, and I was able to easily notice them all, even after having read the original Twilight series only once.
It seems apparent that the author of this guide had little to work with due to limitations on copyright re: the characters and Twilight franchise. Therefore, she tried to bulk it up with uncited references to vampires and werewolves from other books and movies and long, boring quizzes. There's also much waxing about the author's ideas of what things were like for her in high school decades ago, with an attempt to relate it to current younger readers, which comes across as strained and fake. As an adult reader, this also got annoying as I was hoping to see some characters insights or plot analysis, but no such luck.
If you do want to check this book out, do it as your own risk and save some change by getting it at the local library instead (like I did).

This book is an unauthorised companion to the Twilight movie. The author explores vampire and werewolf legends, lore, and myths. The book contains quizzes, facts, and comparisons to other related films. The author is a fan of the series and has set out to capitalise on Stephanie’s Meyer’s success. The author sets out to provide her opinion about the series, along with relating the Twilight world to other books/movies, as well as exploring the myths surrounding vampires, immortality and werewolves throughout the ages.

If you were Bella, would you have made some of the same choices as the book Bella made? Would you even end up with Edward? Would Edward even like you? If your brain is coming across some of the same questions, then this is the book for you. I rate it 3/5 stars. And I would recommend YOU read it.

A little dissappointed of the books content, with more reviews and comments of vampires and werewolves from past movies, myths and stories than about the actual saga its self.

There were a lot of information that seemed quite interesting, and probably was, about different historical vampires and werewolves and stuff, but I couldn’t get over the quizzes that all somehow felt like they were only there to prove that Edward is better and everyone sees Edward as the perfect guy. Which … I don’t have a problem with it, if people think that, but the book felt like it wanted to force this opinion on me, and I really disliked that. Also The quizzes were always repeated twice, once so you could answer and then once again to tell you what your answer was supposed to mean (and sometimes there wasn’t even an explanation, but only a comment about what the author would have chosen, which didn’t see right to me), and then one quiz was even repeated three times. The quiz was about 15 pages each time, then 15 pages again with the answers short, I guess (I don’t really remember) and then 15+ pages AGAIN but this time with longer explanations. I have no idea why that happened.
If all the quizzes were cut shorter/not repeated, the facts would have been accurate, and the whole thing would have been written a little more serious, then I guess I could have enjoyed it, but like this it was a pretty annoying read, and I expected more from it than reading constantly how amazing Edward is …
Also: sometimes it didn’t even feel like Gresh was a fan of Twilight, even though she said so, but like she only loved Edward (or Robert Pattinson, I guess). Like … she talked about how vampires are transformed in the books, but it wasn’t even the correct story? (I’m not a big Twilight fan myself, and even I know that!)

I originally bought this book when I was 16yrs old but hadn't had a chance to read it yet. Sadly, I had to DNF this book. Honestly, I am not that sad about it, as I DNFed this book in anger. The author promises this is a fangirl-written book for Twilight Fangirls, but this is not. This book is 242 pages, but if you remove the multiple "quizzes," then it will be only 152 pages of random thoughts about the Author's love for Edward, comparing the Cullens to other Vampires in history, and her abysmal distaste for werewolves. The latter is what caused me to DNF it because of her treatment of werewolves in this book. If the author took the other 152 pages and cleaned up the inaccuracies and reined in her "feelings" about werewolves, she could have made a decent YouTube or TikTok series.
I am a Twilight fangirl, I own every book and movie, and reread/watch all of them way too many times; however, I am not obsessed with Edward Cullen like the author of this book claims all Twilight fans are. I also want to say that Jacob Black and his fellow pack members ARE NOT WEREWOLVES! They are shifters that were originally Spirit Warriors who could change their bodies into the shape of wolves upon reaching puberty. These Spirit Warriors could shape-shift at any time and weren't limited to only changing during a full moon. It was this inaccuracy and more that caused me to get frustrated with this book.

Listen. I know you're wondering why I didn't give this book the one star review it so absolutely deserves. Trust me, I know. But I bought this book when I was 16 (I'm in my 30s now) and when I tell you that looking back on the contents, including the QUIZZES(????) that I had somehow forgotten about, made me screech with laughter I absolutely mean it. Uquiz WHO? Buzzfeed WHAT? This book walked so they could run. (I'm fully kidding, the quizzes are awful, but still hysterically and unintentionally hilarious.)
I recently re-read it to report on it for the Twilight podcast that I cohost, and while it was a painful endeavor it was worth each agonizing, eye-rolling moment.
So yes, this book deserves one star. It is not good. It is not a companion to the Twilight series and hardly deserves to call itself a 'Guide' even as it assures us that it isn't ~authorized~. But for providing me and my friends with unparalleled road trip material and endless things to make fun of, therefore still providing some modicum of entertainment, you get an addition pity star. No need to thank me for my charity, as I'll be basking in the glory of past me's high score in that final grand quiz.

Unfortunately even the quizzes can't redeem this.. I don't even want to call it a book.
If I could give negative stars for this book's rating I would.
I would have thought by reading the title and the resume that this book would somewhat be about Twilight, but no.
Most of the time, the author is yapping about other unrelated vampire lore or stories. And when she's actually talking about Twilight, the info is sprinkled with inaccuracies (Really obvious ones. I would have thought by reading the title and the resume that this book would somewhat be about Twilight, but no.

Back when it was announced that Stephenie Meyer was going to write an official Twilight guide, Twilight fever was at its peak. The book took forever to be published, my godmother knew I wanted the guide for my birthday. To my disappointment she got me this book since the official guide had not come out. It wasn’t the book I wanted, but since it was a gift from my godmother I felt obligated to read it. This book is horrible, it’s like the author based her facts on the movies or old folklore. The amount of facts they got wrong is incredible. Why even write a book based on a book series, of you aren’t even gonna do your research. Do no recommend at all, save your money. If you are a true twilight fan, get the official guide.

All this 'author' seems to publish is lame, badly researched unofficial guides on other people's work. This is the third one I've stumbled on before connecting the names. All her guides are awful and offer no original content or thought, someone else said high school essay and that's pretty accurate. Most series have official guides just save yourself and avoid these. Let's just say someone is a blood sucking parasite but it's not even the characters in twilight. Just clawing money away from people who have done actual work with total rubbish and scamming fans, they shouldn't be allowed.

There was definitely interesting information in this book about Twilight and vampires/werewolves in general, but I felt that a lot of this book was the author's personal opinions on Twilight, guys, vampires and a lot of other information. This book didn't have as much information on Twilight in general and often dragged on about other topics that weren't directly related to Twilight.

It's a good book — for little girls. If you have a middle school age daughter who loves the Twilight saga and has a passing interest in mythology she'll probably enjoy this. Anyone outside those narrow perimeters isn't going to have a good time though.

As a Twihard, this "guide" is very disappointing. It is a fan book based on how to love vampires. It would have been perfectly for my first Twilight years as a teen, but in my twenties, it's just not great.

The Twilight Companion
When I first read this book, I disliked it so much I didn’t even give it a rating. It's a comparison to Edward to every old vampire in books, television, and movies. It also compares Jacob to other old, classic, werewolves. This is what I had to say.
It was long. It was irrelevant to the books. It didn’t tell you not one thing a Twi hard couldn’t already tell you... It dragged and was extremely hard to read because truthfully it was boring. She filled the pages with facts about *other* vampires and werewolves and how the related to the characters in Twilight. I was thinking *what is this*. Disappointed? Greatly! Yeah. I expected secrets and background information. I never thought I would dislike anything regarding Twilight, but this book was purely misleading. I shouldn’t even have been able to bear the *Twilight* name. I can’t tell you one interesting thing I got from reading this book. While Stephanie Meyers made reading about Vampires interesting and fun, and keep you on the edge of your seats whether it be in adventure or romance, this author made the whole thing snooze-worthy. Half the movies she mentioned I haven’t seen, and from her descriptions, I have to say, she didn’t particularly make me want to run right out and rent the movies either. Please don’t read this book. You will want *however long it takes IF you actually don’t get turned off and put it down* those hours of your life back. This book was TERRIBLE! And might I add OBSESSION more than a cologne (meaning how much she gushed over Edward). It truly goes to prove that ANYONE can get a book published. I don't even know was this a Twilight book or a history or biology textbook. This book is going straight to my NEVER READ AGAIN box!
Yeah, it was still bad! Only this time I kinda knew what to expect having read it before. I tended to wonder how old the author was because it read like a love-sick teenage girl swooning and carrying on over Edward every, other, paragraph. But she says she’s married with three sons? REALLY? But yet she has a quiz that says if your over 40 your too old for Edward. Which HES A FICTIONAL CHARACTER! And the person I have this much of a lust and obsession for at least isn’t a character in a book.
She certainly has some … strange viewpoints. She compares Edward to Daniel Radcliffe. SERIOUSLY? Not Robert Pattinson to Daniel Radcliffe. EDWARD! Not Edward to Harry Potter. Although, I absolutely do think Daniel Radcliffe is a HOTTER!
The titled says UPDATED but the references are definitely not that. I actually thought of at least three more relevant series that feature vampires and werewolves that she could have used to compare and contrast. Such as “The Vampire Diaries” “True Blood” and “Shadow Hunters” and “Midnight Texas” Tho in all fairness at the time this was written some of those shows and books might not have been out.
Then I noticed on this read that this book is written in a VERY DISTRACTING way because paragraphs are interrupted by breaks detailing something relating to that paragraph and by the time the side note stuff ends you forgot the main part you were reading. This could have been resolved by putting all the side stuff at the END of each chapter.
I also noticed some of the information felt off and wrong. Such as when she talks about she wouldn’t let her grounded daughter run off to Italy. Anyone whose read New Moon knows that Bella wasn’t being punished and eyed closely by Charlie before Alice came. He had no idea whatsoever about her “extra-curricular” activities at this point in time. Saying that I wouldn’t necessarily say he “let her”.
She also said the cops are looking for Jake in Breaking Dawn. Jake disappears in Breaking Dawn, but I really don’t think they have a hit out on him. Nor do I think Billy would tell the cops Jake was missing because he knew what form Jake was probably in and Billy was “selective” who he let in on the secret. He didn’t want Bella to know and she was Jake’s best friend. Did you read this or did you read a summary of the books?
She says Bella “tinkers” with motorcycles. Bella never *tinkered* with anything. Can you seriously see Bella trying to handle anything electronic? She scratched herself up trying to rip her stereo out.
Then she (the author) says the weirdest thing. “Clearly, I haven’t lived forever, or I’d currently be polishing off my forty-thousand-page series of sixty intertwined novels rather than polishing off this book about Stephanie Myer’s Twilight series. Like she’d rather be doing that than reading the series but throughout the rest of the book, she’s gushing and losing her mind like a love-sick teen over Edward (rolling my eyes).
Parts of it amused me slightly like what you’d do if your boyfriend were a vampire and a werewolf, but the rest.. Some I just scrolled quickly through. A LOT of it is REPETITIVE!
So the conclusion is the same. DON’T READ THIS! I think what I was looking for was something she mentions called The Complete Illustrated Movie Companion Twilight Mark Cotta Vaz

I literally said thank goodness and sighed of relief when I was done with this. Piggy-backing on Twilight's fanbase by producing some easy content that takes the reader through the typical vampire myths, *some* interesting history, and quite a bit of non-sensical quiz material. I do not recommend.

2.5⭐️ just a bit meh. There's a quiz. That's laid out way too complicated tbh. And it's full of folklore I already knew so I didn't learn anything reading it. Shame.
