Kurt Warner is the greatest rag-to-riches story in the history of sports. It's a wonderful, hilarious, poignant and factual account of the magical ride. Go inside the locker rooms with all his coaches - from Dick Vermeil to Dick Breitbach... Get behind the scenes with Warner's trips to Wheel of Fortune, David Letterman and Disney World... Venture into the press box with Bernie Miklasz, Jim Thomas and J.R. Ogden... Eavesdrop on Bob Costas and Dan Dierdorf discussing the Kurt Warner Miracle... From the UNI-Dome to the Trans World Dome to the Georgia Dome, from Mariucci to his mom, this is the only book with the full story on the great unknown - Kurt Warner.
I enjoyed the book for the most part. I liked what the people who knew him well had to say about him. However, I think the book could have done without some of the interviews. I don't think 20 pages with Jim Foster was necessary. I think Steve Sabol's story wasn't necessary. Bob Costas seemed to be in there just to plug his book. Others seemed to be in there just to plug what they were working on.
Lots of background on Kurt from those who have known him (a bit too a lot), as well as hundreds of interesting facts about sports, however, it reads more like unedited interview transcripts than a well-researched book. Liked it, but didn’t love it.
