Although this is a fictionalized account, it is based on research and known events. It's really interesting to learn so much about Harriet Tubman. I think I'm going to donate this to my school so that hopefully students read this in preparation for the new movie.

I read this book to help it get approved in my school district and I'm glad books about great people are being read!

This book was a little overly-fictionalized for me. And I also know it was written for 5th graders and I am almost 30. So I am not the target audience.

Why had I never heard of this AMAZING person? I studied American history for a year, but the name of Harriet Tubman never appeared. We are still too racist and sexist.

Harriet Tubman is a woman born in 1822 in Maryland, during the slavery. She has also been a slave. As a child, she worked for people and also in plantations. It was a very pathetic situation. Most of the time, she was punished by her owners,treated like animals and insulted by them. She was very maltreated like the others slaves. At the age of 27, she escaped from the slavery and began to fight against that plague. She became a nurse for refugees, created an organization The Fugitive Slave Act. She became a great humanitarian and a "Freedom Leader". Her action pleased to slaves and slaves abolishers. She finally triumphed in her work and became a leader in her society.

14) I think that Tanya Savory wrote this story because she wants to castigate the slavery, a practice that still exists in some parts of the world. She is against that and by the way, try to sensitize people not to do that. She probably gets her inspiration from Harriet Tubman's life. In fact, this is an evidence because she makes the biography of Harriet in this book. She really emphasizes the combats of Harriet against slavery and her humanitarian's actions.

I read 70 pages
Q4: I would like to change the life of of main character if I could change. Harriet Tubman is the main character who has hard life espically when she was a young girl. She did not have any feedom to do like other people. She and people who like Harriet they had do work for other people because they were as a slave. I chose that character because she very hard-worker and she had to work for others not for herself. When I read this chapter I sadden for little girl who had to clean up others house.

Q11: I just learnt that Harriet escapes with her sister and her brother. I did not read yet but I can imagine that people who are like Harriet they will encouraged by Harriet life. I believe that many people are going to want their freedom life. she will be exemplary person for them.
