The Companion Contract (1st published in 2007) begins with a sordid contract for sex. Jennifer is a young woman who barely survived a disastrous childhood, Rob is a middle-aged man, lost in the modern world, who calculates his existence in 6-minute units. Fate deals many strange cards as the bizarre narrative unfolds. With peanut butter, determined zygotes, a willful daughter, an inventive hairdresser, cruel rejection, fearful denial and spiteful vengeance on one side - does this strange love stand a chance? And is there always a price to pay...
a clever, funny, sad and uncomfortable book to read. The description of the office politics and personality types at the legal firm certainly rings true!
Earlier this year I got that horrible sink feeling we authors get when I found (accidentally and through this site) a recently published book with the SAME title and uncomfortably similar storyline to my 2007 publication. The antidote - scrabble through dusty boxes for my old launch copy - re-read. I found- with a bit of distance that I loved the quirky off-beat (yes slightly weird) characters - their clumsy, unpromising sex and scrape-love-up-from-the-gutter victory a real tonic :)
Now ready to go ahead with my first picture book and first sci fi novella :) :) :)
