What a great cookbook. There are tons of recipes I like and I loved that it told the story of Cedar Cove, there was a lot in it that I hadn't remembered from the series.

This cookbook is a companion to the Cedar Cove series set in a Pacific Northwest small town. Each chapter introduction is based on characters from the series. Chapters cover major recipe categories (appetizer, entree, dessert) as well as menus for holiday meals (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas). Recipes range from simple comfort foods we've loved since childhood (grilled cheese sandwich) to elegant dishes we expect in gourmet restaurants (Beef Wellington). The recipes are appealing, made 'from scratch' with fresh ingredients, displayed in attractive pictures. As I started to read chapter introductions, I found several 'spoilers', details about relationships that were not in the first 2 Cedar Cove novels I've read - so I'll wait until later this year to revisit this cookbook, after I read more of the series.

Beautiful colorful illustrations with delicious recipes. This was my first cookbook I bought of Debbie Macomber's. I thoroughly enjoy making the recipes. It is especially nice to have the recipes that were in the stories of Cedar Cove. I feel more connected to the characters and their dishes. I've made quite few of the dishes. Often times, I put my own spin on the dishes, making them my own.

This is a wonderful cookbook with great recipes and also great descriptions of stuff from the Cedar cove series. Definitely will be making recipes from this book. It definitely brings me back home to Cedar cove and makes me miss the characters.

A fun addition to my cookbook collection, this one is full of uncomplicated recipes, mouth watering photos and helpful tips. Charlotte Rhodes (one of the beloved characters from the Cedar Cove series) narrates the reader through a collection of treasured recipes from the kitchens of her neighbors and friends of Cedar Cove. All major recipe categories are covered (appetizer, entree, desert) as well as holiday meal planning. The beginning of each section begins with Charlotte introducing you to a character and their address (which is how Macomber titled the books in the Cedar Cove series). She then shares the story around the recipe’s history or a tidbit about the family who created the recipe. I love how the cookbook ties in with the series. It really makes you feel like you are there having a cup of tea swapping recipe cards. Many of the meals talked about in the book series make an appearance in the cookbook. You don’t have to have read the series to enjoy this cookbook. It’s just clever and fun.

Loved browsing through this book for recipes. Admittedly I borrowed this book from the local public library, so I didn’t feel bad about the recipes I don’t want to attempt.

None of the recipes look difficult, and many look absolutely delicious! I can’t wait to try them!

Great Read

I really enjoyed the stories heading each chapter. Although I haven’t read the Cedar Cove series in quite some time, reading this book makes me want to revisit it. I also didn’t watch the TV series on Hallmark as I didn’t think anyone could do it justice. Maybe I’ll have to revisit that as well. 🙃

Debbie Macomber's wonderful Cedar Cove book series is a world unto itself. The "Cedar Cove Cookbook" is charming, wonderfully illustrated with colorful drawings and photographs, and it has a real "down home" feel from cover to cover. After the nostalgic and touching introduction from Debbie, one of her Cedar Cove characters, Charlotte Jefferson Rhodes, takes over as guide and offers insights into the residents of Cedar Cove as she introduces each chapter. The food varies from new ideas to familiar favorites, and it all makes you want to get out in the kitchen and rattle those pots and pans! Many of these recipes were standards in our own homes as we were growing up, handed down from our grandmother to our mother, and then passed along to us. If you have children or grandchildren who like to spend time with you as you cook, then they will enjoy sitting down at the kitchen table and picking out recipes that they want to make. Some of the recipes are quite simple, but they lack nothing in the flavor and enjoyment that they offer! Each recipe is accompanied by a little cooking tip or tidbit. How do these titles sound: "Sunday Sour Cream Coffee Cake"; "Broccoli and Cheese Soup in a Bread Bowl"; "Fresh Herb Crab Cakes with Homemade Tartar Sauce"; "Braised Brussels Sprouts with Bacon"; and "Strawberry-Rhubarb Crisp". My favorite part is the cookies--yummy! Cookies are one of my four food groups : )

Summary:


This cookbook is a companion to the Cedar Cove Series. Charlotte Jefferson Rhodes, Olivia's mother, is the one leading the reader through the book. It is divided into ten sections by breakfast, lunch, dinner, appetizers, dessert, and then holidays. Each of those sections is hosted by a different character whose address has been one of the books in the series. Her introduction of the section introduces the characters at that home and says why that meal or holiday is special to them. Through out her series food is mentioned a lot so when the book was created the developers tried to use the menu item mentioned in the novels as favorites.




Thoughts:


I have a shopping list ready and about 10 recipes I want to try. I rarely buy cookbooks, this is only my second one for this year, but this one is beautifully put together and I love how it ties into the characters from the series. It makes them seem even more like old friends! I think this would make an excellent Christmas or other holiday present for someone who likes to read and cook. Maybe with a few books from the series thrown in for a new reader. I'll have to comment once I try a few recipes about how they turned out.

The book starts with an Introduction from Debbie, then goes on to the recipes. Each section of recipes starts with an introduction from the Cedar Cove characters for that specific category.

Every recipe doesn’t have a photo, but the ones that do are clear and very yummy looking. None of the recipes look very hard or have a huge amount of ingredients. Most of them have items you’d already have in your pantry or fridge.

I got this cookbook from the library, but I liked it so much I’d like to own a copy.

Wow. I really love this book and I can't wait to get cooking! No, not healthy in the least, but these recipes look SCRUMPTIOUS! It is a beautiful book, too with excerpts from Debbie's books, and beautiful typesetting. Most of all, I appreciate all the full color photos. Some of the most tantalizing recipes: Sugar Dusted Molasses Crinkles, Raspberry Peach Cobbler, Russian Tea Cakes, Roasted Salmon with Creamy Dill Sauce, Panini Margherita, Fresh Herb Crab Cakes, and of COURSE, Chocolate Zucchini Cake! YUMMY!!!

This is a book and a cookbook. At the beginning of each chapter a character from the Cedar Cove Series is featured for that section in the voice of Charlotte Rhodes. You get a few pages of story as well as wonderful recipes and mouthwatering photos. I don't always look at cookbooks from cover to back but this one had a different feel because of the short stories in between. A great range of recipes from comfort food to entertaining as well as a lot of seafood ideas. Considering Cedar Cove is off of Puget sound it's no surprise.

For anyone who is a fan of the Cedar Cove series and a lover of cookbooks, this would be a great addition to their library. The cookbook is very well done and told through the eyes of Charlotte Rhodes. She takes you to different houses in Cedar Cove and includes a collection of recipes from that house. The cookbook has beautiful illustrations and photographs and many helpful hints are included.

A great book for reading and cooking. Macomber tells you about the people and the households in which the recipes originate at the beginning of the chapter and you'll find them all familar if you've read any of the Cedar Cove books.

I love the Cedar Cove series. And, as a cookbook collector, I'm wild about the Companion book -Cedar Cove Cookbook. The antidotes regarding The residents (as well as the recipes)can be enjoyed by everyone, even if you haven't been introduced to Cedar Cove and it's residents!

I have not read the series of Cedar Cove. I found the mini stories that were included in the recipes entertaining. The recipes were great for me which means comfort foods and church potluck recipes. Well worth reading and cooking!
