Musashi: So, in the end, I guess, all that's left is to pray.
Takuan: No, not "all that's left" and not "in the end". Prayer is the beginning of all things.
Well, what do you know? Musashi's imprisonment actually had its perks. Of course, the people who are eager to establish a duel with him when he's this weak and terribly wounded would swarm with swords on the temple desperately seeking for his presence, and maybe even sneakily finish him off his bed. Now they wouldn't be able to get to him. Why didn't I think of this sooner?! I was so worried!
And did Kojiro just kill a sword-wielding man using his stick?! I can't wait for Musashi to evolve and be the walking sword though. Takuan sure brings out the "philosopher" side of him.

I can't stop laughing... Kojiro really killed the guy with the stick. Well we don't know yet if he truly died.

Esse volume vai dos cap 252 ao 260 continua exatamente da onde o anterior parou com Musashi agora em uma situação crítica após enfrentar os 70 homens da escola Yoshioka e as consequências que isso trouxe pra ele sem entrar em spoilers mas eu gostei de toda a reflexão que o monge Takuan trouxe pra ele fazendo ele refletir se ele quer continuar nesse caminho que ele está pro resto da vida ou se ele deseja trilhar um caminho diferente pois sempre existe uma alternativa cara esse mangá está uma surpresa das boas ao mesmo tempo que te faz vibrar sobre as lutas e a jornada do protagonista te faz pensar sobre a vida e o que você quer fazer e qual caminho você deseja seguir simplesmente o melhor mangá com as melhores reflexões possíveis e tomara que o Musashi amadureça muito depois desse arco de transição e que ele possa ver que ele não precisa seguir em um caminho solitário se ele não quiser muito bom gostei demais desse volume.

This was basically a philosophical monologue that explores the age old questions of Meaning of Life , meaning of existence and the idea of war , murder and 2nd chances .
In a philosophy class , this would be a blast , but as a translated manga , it felt boring and made the story stagnant .

Gorgeous! Maybe it's still a bit too soon to decide, but Vagabond could very well be one of my all time favorites of the medium. I really hope it gets finished one day...

Musashi, solo y mutilado, sigue arrestado por sus acciones con los Yoshioka. El herrero Honami tiene una reflexión acerca del papel de la espada en su contexto, tanto histórico como humano. Esta, ya no es el centro de la vida, como lo fue en la época anterior a la paz. Personas como Musashi y Kojiro son hombres que nacieron para una era de hierro y sangre, pero ahora en tiempos de prosperidad parecen ir deteriorándose. El mundo cambio y con él, la idea de la espada. ¿Hay sitio en este nuevo mundo para estos dos?
En este contexto, Otsu se sincera por completo. A pesar de los reproches de Jotaro, confiesa que jamás odiaría una espada, tiene otra manera de verla: desde el amor la acepta, ya que es parte del hombre que ama. Otsu no quiere destruir la espada, quiere caminar junto a Musashi incluso con ella, porque ella no puede quitar una parte de su esencia.
Musashi que su vida ha sido una huida constante hacia los duelos, su sentido de la ''fuerza'' o hasta ríos de sangre, se le presenta una posibilidad: tener un hogar, un lugar al que volver. Esto lo conecta con Otsu: la posibilidad de una vida plena no solo en el filo, sino en los vínculos humanos porque ''la espada sin funda es fuerza sin propósito.''
A través de una reflexión, Takuan le revela a Musashi que antes era como él: estaba perdido, sin rumbo, con una carga de errores y arrepentimientos, pero a la vez entendió el sendero de su camino como el de Musashi: ''aquel que está trazado por el cielo, pero que al mismo tiempo es libre.'' Esto puede parecer una contradicción aparente, pero que en Musashi adquiere un peso enorme: no eligió ser Takezo Shinmen, no eligió vivir Sekigahara, ni sus heridas, ni el odio de los Yoshioka o el de su aldea. Pero sí puede elegir sobre estas circunstancias. No está condenado a repetir la espiral, tiene la total libertad de romperla. En el interior de Musashi hay infinitas posibilidades: ser humano es ser infinito.
Por otra parte, Kojiro avanza en paralelo. Enfrenta a un espadachín renombrado de Kokura, y lo derrota sin desenfundar su espada, solo con la rama que usaba en sus entrenamientos con Musashi. Kojiro ha entendido tan profundamente su espada que no necesita una para vencer. Es el reverso de Musashi; mientras este sigue hundido en sus circunstancias, Kojiro fluye con naturalidad y hasta recibe la oportunidad de ser maestro en Kokura.

Musashi and Takuan philosophical debate over the purpose in life and free will and praying is fantastic. I love that Musashi's imprisonment has forced him to slow down for once and we can get an arc of him being contemplative about life's purpose, I think in any other situation he'd still try to fight his way forward (despite his injuries) but now he's got a place to think and reflect. Otsu not knowing what to make of everything is fine, not a real highlight for me even if it has some funny moments. And Kojiro beating people up with just a stick is funny, Musashi had this huge step forward in reputation because of the Oshioka school and now Kojiro is also going to gain fame... for using a stick.

The quality of the translation has plumetted. Since Musashi is recovering from his wounds, there are no fights for him. Only mediocre philosophy from Takuan.

No matter how much Takuan waxes philosophical, it just fails to pique my curiosity.
Personally, I am rather fond of Musashi's intuitive environmental spirituality, being one with nature. I find it much more endearing than the whole "freedom in the preordained heavenly order" type of religious crap. Hope he will stay on his own path.
Up till now, I couldn't really give a damn about Otsu, she's just the "protagonist's romantic interest" character. But her self-awareness is starting to show and that's cool.

Buen volumen, me gusta que Musashi cargue con el dolor de su batalla y que a pesar de haber ganado, no puede sentirse victorioso. La filosofía de “Vivir por la espada” que el autor abarca no la puedo comprender (como Otsu) pero me genera respeto por esas personas que no estaban aferradas a la vida, entre ellos Musashi. Por fin Matahachi se reúne con su madre para empezar de cero, pero, lo logrará?

Musashi a pesar de haber ganado, no se siente victorioso. Solo él es quién carga con sus actos. Las reflexiones y enseñanzas de Takuan en la cárcel son de mis momentos favoritos de toda la historia.

Le podría poner cinco estrellas por sus últimos capítulos, pero como lo dejé abandonado durante bastantes meses, no recuerdo si es resto del tomo estaba taaaan god como para un cinco estrellas.
Eso sí, apenas lo retomé y ya me apareció tremenda frase ("Vivir sin un vínculo con el cielo, no es más que sufrir") que me dejó corte: "Paraaa, recién llego, eh. Déjame acoplarme al menos primero".

The arrest of Musashi has been a blessing in disguise while he is trying to overcome his disability. We see Takuan once again and discuss life philosophy in general. And Kojiro is at a different level altogether.

Lo mejor de Vagabond es que tiene las mejores escenas de pelea en un tomo, y después tiene momentos maravillosos como la charla entre Takuan y Musashi en la carcel. Este es el mejor manga de todos.
