In a city where connections are everything, who will prevail as political and police royalties collide?

Ainsley Nash just got her big break with a story on insider trading that’s causing political elites, including her senator father, to sweat. As her story gains momentum, the threat of someone shutting her down looms. But Ainsley is headstrong, and no one is going to stop her from discovering the truth—especially not the smoking hot SWAT sergeant assigned to protect her.

Coming from a family full of cops, Rory Maguire didn’t join the D.C. SWAT team to babysit socialites. But Ainsley surprises Rory with her down-to-earth personality and drive to do what’s right. Keeping Ainsley safe from harm isn’t easy. Attempting to ignore the surge of desire he feels every time she’s within reach is an even bigger challenge.

Ainsley and Rory have enough sexual tension to light up the city, but can they let their guards down long enough to admit they’re a perfect match before it’s too late?

Battle of Hearts, the second book in the Legacy of the Maguires Series, by Stella Holt is SWAT Sergeant Rory Maguire’s story. Being bodyguard to Ainsley Nash, a news anchor who has a story that is making many uncomfortable is assigned to him. Yes, the truth needs to be found and revealed but it comes with dangers. These two are committed workaholic professionals but also likable characters.

A romance story for sure but with a strong element of suspense to keep you turning the pages. Family, dreams, goals and the way they change over time are all explored as Ainsley and Rory work together, finding love makes life complete. Battle of Hearts is a wonderful addition to the series.

An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This time we meet Rory Maguire, the Sargent of the Swat team .Rory loves his job ,he has his team's back as well as they has his back ,so when he gets called into his superior's office for a new assignment to babysit a senator's daughter he's not at all happy .Neither is Miss Nash, she's very independent reporter working on a new story that will blow up Washington D.C .

The author delivers another wonderful story in the series about the Maguire siblings. This time the oldest of them, SWAT Sergeant Rory Maguire, gets his story.
Rory, a dedicated law enforcement man, is part of a legacy of well respected cops. When called to his superior’s office and given the assignment as a bodyguard for Ainsley Nash, a news anchor, he is less than thrill.
Ainsley, the daughter of a NY senator, is not happy to be assigned a bodyguard. Could it be because her father is one of the senators involved in the corruption she’s unraveling?
In the midst of the danger, feelings develop. But each has a different goal in life. One that would keep then in different states.
Will they realize that goals change and that finding one’s soulmate is worth taking a different road to happiness?
This is a story about family or lack thereof. It’s also a story about realizing that dreams change and that taking a new direction in life to spend one’s life with “the one” is better than the dream.
This reader can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Great book! I received this book as an arc for an honest review and let me tell you, if you want a breather from any genre you are currently reading whether it be dark romance , fantasy etc. then this book and series is the one for you! If you love contemporary romance with political intrigue, a sergeant/news anchor socialite, fake dating, forced proximity, banter, a FMC who is likable and doesn’t make you want to roll your eyes but is actually strong and a MMC who’s stubborn, a typical male who’s hardheaded an doesn’t get the signs (which to me makes it all the better in the end :)) and last but not least some light groveling then this is the perfect book for you. I read this book in a matter of a day and a half, and I couldn’t be happier with the breather it gave me from my other reads!

Battle of Hearts is the second book in the Legacy of the Maguires and can be read as a standalone within the series. This is the first book that I have read by this author. I feel like I somehow accidentally got signed up for this book but I am so glad I did because I really enjoyed it.

I love Rory Maguire and Ainsley Nash! Rory is a member of the SWAT team and he has been asked to provide security for Ainsley. Her father is a senator and has hired a team to safeguard Ainsley.

You could feel the sexual tension between these two and I think they ended up in a perfect match.

I will be seeking out more books written by this author! I have book one on my kindle now, to start!

After meeting the Maguire family in Charlotte’s book, I was curious about her brothers. Rory (along with Connor and Finn) did not disappoint here. Rory is paired with Ainsley, a local news reporter, in an unusual police protection detail.

Both characters are interesting and there is a slight intrigue element to their story as well. I appreciated the way Ms Holt maintained the tension between Rory and Ainsley as they navigated through the working relationship to the potential of more.

The family and “dream” elements are strong in this story and we see more of the other Maguire brothers than we did in Charlotte’s story, so that has me curious as to which of the middle siblings we will hear from next.

I love Rory & Ainsley! Forced proximity & some fake dating between an investigative reporter and her protection officer/ bodyguard?! Yes please. Great chemistry and tension.

I loved seeing all the Maguires again. Rory’s parents crack me up. And Connor!! Can’t wait for his book.

There was some great suspense woven in, with the lurking danger. Enjoyed meeting a few of Rory’s fellow SWAT officers too… I want more Axe & Jake.

There was definitely some instant lust, which I don’t always love, but it felt appropriate for the way the 2 were literally stuck together. I enjoyed the way the romance progressed from there.

Thank you Stella for the chance to review an advanced copy!

I voluntarily read an advanced reader’s copy of this book for an honest opinion.

A heart-warming addition to the Legacy of the Maguires series. Battle of Hearts by Stella Holt was everything I enjoy in a romance plus so much more. It grabbed me from the first chapter and I didn't want to put the book down. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Ainsley is an investigative journalist. Her digging for a story leads to her father Senator Nash. When her father's assistant is attack he pulls some strings to have the best protection for his daughter. When SWAT team leader Rory Maguire is assigned to protect Ainsley he is not happy. She doesn't want a babysitter anymore than he wants to be one. The time they spend together he has to fight the chemistry and keep it professional. If they cross the line will he be able to be objective in her protection? I liked the chemistry between these two. Watching him deal with his internal struggle and her feeling toward him. Good read.

This was a great addition to this series. It was an incredible read from start to finish. I loved Rory and Ainsley. For me their story was full of intrigue, chemistry, denial, tension and so much more. I devoured this book in one sitting. I could not put it down. From one chapter to the next I kept reading because I had to know what was going to happen next. I would highly recommend not only this book but the first book in the series too. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Battle of Hearts is the second standalone in the Legacy of the Maguires series. This is a contemporary romance story with elements of political figures and law enforcement. This story revolves around the eldest sibling, Rory Maguire. Rory is a SWAT team sergeant ordered to protect and bodyguard the daughter of the NY senator, Ainsley. The two start on rocky terms, as Ainsley hates the idea of having a bodyguard, and Rory would rather be in the field on assignment instead of babysitting a socialite. Their brewing romance plays on the enemies-to-lovers trope as the two lower their bicker ness and dislike for one another and open up, developing a whirlwind of feelings. The sexual tension between the two radiate off the pages causing their angst to heighten the reader's emotions.

I highly recommend this one if you're a contemporary romance fan or want a light and sweet read.

A little bit of romance and little bit of suspense mixed with bodyguard romance and good banter. This was an enjoyable book, very mature characters who are trying to fight their attraction because of their work connection until they can give in. The author did a great job giving the characters defined personalities and making their decisions consistent with it. It’s a short read and when you start you want to know how it ends, I read it in 2 days, great book to pick up during the weekend!

4.25stars- BATTLE OF HEARTS is the second instalment in Stella Holt’s contemporary, adult LEGACY OF THE MAGUIRES romantic suspense series focusing on the Maguire siblings. This is thirty-four year old, D.C. SWAT Team leader Sergeant Rory Maguire, and investigative journalist Ainsley Nash’s story line. BATTLE OF HEARTS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspective (Rory and Ainsley) BATTLE OF HEARTS focuses on the protection of New York State Senator Nash’s daughter, investigative journalist Ainsley Nash. Senator Nash has requested the services of the DC Police Force to protect his daughter in the wake of a potential threat and the attack upon his junior Senator. Orders from the top find D.C. SWAT Team leader Rory Maguire, guardian and protector of Ainsley Nash but the Senator is not forthcoming with the who, how or why. Ainsley, refusing to sit back, with the help of Rory and his brother Conner, begins an investigation only to discover the betrayal could come from someone she knows but someone in D.C. has pulled Ainsley’s security detail leaving our heroine unprotected from future harm. Refusing to leave Ainsley exposed, Rory takes time off to reconsider his own future in the wake of a new position, protecting the woman with whom he will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Rory and Ainsley, and the potential fall-out as mutual success and promotions threaten any possibility of a happily ever after.

Ainsley Nash is all about the next big story, and there are plenty of stories in Washington D.C. but Ainsley must tread very carefully in the wake of her father’s position and possible run the Presidency. An attack against her father’s junior Senator meant someone was getting too close to the truth, and Senator Nash doesn’t want his daughter a potential target as things quickly go south. Rory Maguire comes from a law enforcement dynasty, and has been offered a new position within the DC police force but his latest assignment ‘babysitting’ the Senator’s daughter brings Rory up close and personal with a future he never considered, a future that may never come to fruition.

The relationship between Rory and Ainsley begins as an assignment, an assignment of which Rory wants nothing to do. Ainsley doesn’t want personal protection but the perceived threats become a reality when secrets reveal an informant with secrets of his own. As Rory struggles to keep his distance from our story line heroine, Ainsley believes she has found her future in Rory Maguire. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate and mostly implied, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. There is no foul language.

We are reintroduced to the Maguire siblings : Charlotte Maguire and Caleb Kincaid (Last First Kiss), Undercover Detective Conner and US Navy SEAL Finn, and their parents Judge Cora and former police Commissioner Maguire, Ainsley’s father Senator Nash, as well as fellow SWAT Team members Jake and Axel. Conner’s story line is next.

BATTLE OF HEARTS is a story of power and control, politics and greed, family and relationships, acceptance, sacrifice and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and entertaining but the conflict resolution was off page so the reader is not privy to the smaller nuances of the threats against our story line heroine. The romance is seductive; the characters are energetic and determined.

I received this arc of Battle of Hearts in exchange for my honest review. This is the second book in the Legacy of the Maguires series by Stella Holt. This was a very enjoyable book to read with lots of suspense and romance. Book 2 features Rory Maguire, the oldest of the siblings. He is the sergeant of the police SWAT team in Washington DC. Rory follows in his father’s footsteps as he is the retired commissioner of the department. As the book opens, he has been summoned to his boss’s office where she offers him a promotion as the head of training which would take him off the more dangerous SWAT team. She also informs him he is to be leading a protection team for the NY Senator’s daughter Ainsley Nash. The senator fears she is in danger. Her dad is the one who requests the security detail for her.

Ainsley is currently a news anchor for DC and has aspirations of making it to the national news based in NYC. She has been following a story about insider trading within Congress and reporting on it during her newscast. Rory confronts Ainsley to let her know he has been assigned to protect her. He initially wants to move her to a safe house but he relents after seeing where she lives. His team mates and he will be checking the perimeters before she enters anywhere and staying with her 24/7. She tells Rory about the case she is working on and he will help her gather information while guarding her. When she has to attend a fancy gala as the keynote speaker, they agree that he should pose as her boyfriend not a bodyguard as to not draw attention to themselves.

As they act as a fake couple, the two both experience a lot of sparks. He realizes it is not good for their situation. Ainsley second guesses whether Rory feels something for her other than doing his job. Rory takes Ainsley with him to the family dinner and his brother and parents like her a lot. Both realize they have feelings for the other and when Rory is released from guard duty, they think about pursuing a real relationship. However, Rory knows she is hoping to get a job offer in NYC and he has no plans to leave Washington. So he wonders if he should even think about it.

This story was so compelling to keep reading. I liked both Rory and Ainsley and felt they made a great couple. Both were very genuine. The uncertainty of who was involved in the insider training and who was after Ainsley was very suspenseful and fun to read about. I was worried about whether or not Rory and Ainsley would become a real couple. I enjoyed seeing the Maguire family members again that we met in the first book. This is a 5 star book that I highly recommend.

Stella Holt was new to me with her debut novel, Last First Kiss, the beginning of her Legacy of the Maguires series. I’m always willing to take a chance on a new or new-to-me author because you never know when you’ll find your next favorite. I’m delighted I took a chance on it, which led to the desire to see where the next book took me. This brings us to Battle of Hearts. It’s a romantic suspense, which is totally my jam, and I really enjoyed it. It’s pretty fast-paced compared to the first book in the series, and the mystery/suspense is sprinkled with a little humorous banter throughout to break up the more intense scenes. While it’s a standalone title, I highly recommend Last First Kiss as it gives a little more insight into why Rory is more standoffish. Plus, it’s also a really good read.

If you’re looking for a fast-paced romantic suspense and enjoy a good family saga, this book (and series) is one you do not want to pass up.

Rory Maguire, DC Metro police sergeant for his SWAT team has just been offered a promotion to be course director for all recruits. First though, before he can decide to accept the promotion, he has just received protection detail for news anchor, investigative reporter and socialite Ainsley Nash, daughter of a prominent NY senator. Ainsley knows nothing about the needed protection and her father would only emphasize she needed the protection but not why. Being an investigative reporter, Ainsley is determined to do just that, investigate. The chemistry between these two are off the charts and this being only my second read by this author, I can see more of her in my future! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A quick and easy to read bodyguard romantic suspense

Thank you to Goodreads and Stella Holt for the Kindle copy of this via Goodreads giveaway!

Battle of Hearts is a quick and easy to read bodyguard romantic suspense. When investigative reporter Ainsley gets too close to some political intrigue, her Senator father hires Rory Maguire as her personal bodyguard. Close proximity and fake dating for events turns into feelings that really complicate matters for both Ainsley and Rory.

This should be on your tbr if you love romantic suspense, bodyguard romance, interconnected family stand-alone series and political intrigue!

In DC there is a scandal brewing and Ainsley Nash, newscaster, is in the process of chasing the details. Her father, a senator, in fear for her life, calls for her protection. Rory McGuire, SWAT team leader gets the assignment and not happily so. Ainsley resents his presence but he grows on her as much as she grows on him. Romance is in the air and his protection is primary but he cannot say Ainsley is not really the primary.

I am in love with the Maguires, a tight knit family with wonderful values and happiness. Rory is the oldest and is on the SWAT team when asked to protect political elite, newscaster, Ainsley. At first Ainsley does not believe she needs the protection, but soon finds that she will need Rory for her safety. The chemistry and banter that these two share is perfect. They can't deny the sizzling chemistry but will it will be enough to keep them together.

A fast paced story that I had a hard time putting down. Loved how Rory and Ainsley changed to make this relationship work This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Battle of Hearts, the second book in the Legacy of the Maguires series by Stella Holt, seizes your attention as soon as the first page is turned. Ms. Holt has crafted a gripping chain of events where the well-defined and bold characters...who the author depicts in such realistic details that they are brought to life in your mind’s eye...are engulfed in galvanizing intrigue and suspense, as well as heart-stopping romance.

As Rory finds himself captivated and enthralled by Ainsley, he's the second Maguire sibling to find their hard fought HEA...only whetting your appetite for what's to come for the remaining two brothers.

This ARC was complimentary, provided by the Publisher. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.
