At the end of their apprentice year, Aether’s Guard headed off to Buldoun for an international tournament. They had allies there in the Swift Wind and Iron Hand clans, but they also had to deal with the Eternal Flame; Nick Shun had no interest in letting go of his perceived grudge against Aether’s Guard. However, with the academy overseer on the trip, Nick had no chance to act out against them.

The tournament brought both joy and grief. Mindie, the part-fox eurtik, found her resonance with her aether and was welcomed into Gregory’s slowly growing family. The other hopefuls also moved steadily closer to their hope of joining.

The mages in Buldoun were surprisingly friendly toward Aether’s Guard, especially the Wolf House and Eagle House. Claudia Firetongue of Eagle House even turned out to be much more than just a friend. Once the first half of the tournament was over, Gregory was roped into protecting her, as she’d been targeted by assassins.

While Gregory’s wives and friends played in the Empire’s Gambit tournament, Gregory stayed close to Claudia to protect her from any more assassination attempts. As the tournament drew to a close, he was able to thwart a concentrated attack from shadow magic mages and escape with Claudia, bringing them to Lightshield. The elder of Aether’s Guard gave his all in that fight, sacrificing himself to kill the shadow mages. His last words to Gregory were a reminder that even more sacrifices would be needed in the future.

With the tournaments concluding on that somber note, it was time for Aether’s Guard to bid farewell to their new friends. Claudia was spirited away to a safer location by the Buldoun Archmage while Clover, Ling, and Roshana were taken back to Wesrik by Grandmaster Hemet. For their initiate and adept years, they were to help at the academy, away from Gregory and his family.

Setting out for their magi guard training year as initiates, Yukiko, Jenn, and Gregory wouldn’t be alone. Armsmaster Egil Magi-killer was the overseer for the year, and Mindie would be his assistant. The family would get to visit intermittently, even if only a few times during the coming year.

Gregory knew that he would need to walk a fine line between friend and commander with his men. He hoped to help shape them and himself into the best they could be. The future would certainly test him, and having a strong force beside him would make things easier.

A good addition to the series. The god thing about this series is that is focuses on different things each time. One might focus on the magic, the next might focus on military tactics. This one focused on group dynamics and training. The group is in their 3rd year of training, and they have their own squads to commands and get ready. The group doesn't get to see each other very often, maybe once every couple of months to be together. The change in focus in each book keeps everything fresh. I kind of wonder where the next book is going to go. The groups need to split up for a year and won't see each other for a while. Will the next book be during their fourth year, or will it skip a year until they are all back together?

We work our way through Greg's year of training with his troops where he has minimal contact with his family. There is not a lot of overt conflict in this volume. But next volume promises more direct conflicts of various types.

We do get to see some of the training Greg goes through with the troops. From Greg learning to ride a horse to introducing the Peaceful Fist to the troops.

There are some time skips, but they enhance the story versus detract. For instance, we are not forced to read through several weeks worth of simple training day by day to avoid too much sameness.

Having finished Book 6 of the series, I can safely say that I love it and will be checking out the author's other series. I love the LitRPG books as they are so readable that you keep reading them one page after another. Coming back to the book, it was another wonderful book, adding tales of Year 3 in their course that sees them learning to lead a small army. It was great reading about the ways the team trains, and also the continued growth, and the harem continues to grow, which is always a great thing indeed. The next book would be about the fourth year of the team's adventures, and then the next 3 books would be about the further adventures, so why wait? Let's go on and Keep on Reading.

People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put, I love reading, so I have made it my motto to Forever Keep on Reading. I love reading everything except for self-help books, even occasionally. I read almost all the genres, but YA, Fantasy, and Biographies are the most read. My favorite series is Harry Potter, but then there are many more books I adore. I have bookcases filled with books that are waiting to be read so I can't stay and spend more time on this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.

I have enjoyed most of this author's books and this is one of my favorite series by him.

Knowing this author and his writing you can summarize what the books are going to entail: an overpowered OP who collects a large harem of faithful, beautiful bisexual women many of whom are not completely human and may be montergirls or some other variation. So smack the crap out of the "I Believe" button and suspend any expectation of reality.

I enjoy this series even if there are some face-palm worthy parts such as the partial squirrel woman wanting nuts in her pouch, and the part horse woman wanting to be a pony girl paraded around naked.

I do enjoy this series and the story is different enough from his other series that it is not a complete wash, rinse and repeat.

This is more a slice of life book.

The pace, the day to day, it has a certain feel to it. This seems a set up and a transition piece. Still good, and does an excellent job of setting expectations for the next one.

Awesome book.

Another book that I just did not want to put down. The world building continues to be unique and interesting and the characters continue to grow and keep me engaged with the story.

A mixed bag but overall, good

Better than the previous ones in terms of the love story, at least in the way our MC handles his lovers. He grows up, as ut were and is more open and accepting of his harem, which is nice though seems a bit... out of the blue, as it were. I approve either way since the indecisiveness and general "I am unworthy" vibe the MC exuded in the previous books was tedius as hell.
On the les positive side the book felt a little repetitive. The interactions between the Petits seemed copy paste between themselves a bit. The training bits too, though there was enough variety to offset any lingering annoyances, just a tying I noticed.
In terms of story progression... it felt slow paced. I realise it was, again, a whole year and maybe it was the relative uneventfullness and slow pace that gave off that feeling but it felt much less impact full than any of the previous books. Still, it moved the story forward, and gave some foreshadowing for the next book potentially being much more... meddlesome.

The one true compain I have is that we didn't get any chapters from the wives perspective, which I think would be a good change of pace.

Feels like filler with mostly training and army

Drags out a lot and is a bit to repetitive. A no sex harem sucks a bit. Quite bland. Could be summarized easily.

Sadly, the storyline was only getting ready to get ready

The story progresses, but much too slowly. It was a year in the characters’ lives where they did “on-the-job” officer training in the field, but little out of the ordinary occurred. No assassins lurked, no bandit gangs were subdued, the crooked or inept powers-that-be in the villages they visited skated by. Ok, they found a cheating slave owner and turned him over to the authorities to have his neck stretched. A few racist soldiers got fired. Greg and his ladies proved to their cohorts, by their actions, how exceptional they are in leadership as well as martial skills.

There were no details regarding the Kroggian’s increasingly warlike stance. No behind the scenes politics of how and why they are building up their war machine or indications of a warlike surprise 3 polity. There was nothing of Grandmaster Shin and the Eternal Flame’s machinations to influence imperial policy with their racist agenda. There were no details on what Nick did to get himself censured. There was a passing mention of Claudia progressing due to the peaceful fist, along with the other future wives, but some detail could have brought some excitement, relationship building and/or action to this quiet year in the life.

The writing was good as are all of the author’s work, but it took 57 chapters to describe what could have been accomplished with a time skip in a few chapters since nothing new really happened. We already knew that Greg and his wives are badass, that they are not the usual arrogant with a chip-on-the-shoulder mages and as expected they were the top of their graduating class. We know that war is brewing. We know conflict with the Eternal Flame and other clans as well as with the emperor are also pending. Sure the suspense should be built up, but there needs to be some substance, some unforeseen occurrences leading up to skirmishes and then some major conflict setting up the next story arc.

Although l enjoy the author’s writing, this book (just like Lucks Holdings) did little to advance the existing plot lines and no new machinations were revealed. Very disappointing as l enjoyed the previous Aether’s Revival books and chain read the excellent Binding Worlds series. I have not yet read the Dungeon Walkers or Alpha World series, but look forward to getting to them.

In book six we finally leave the academy, but not entirely. We hear what the younger member's of Aether's Guard are doing as they each meet darkness one by one.

I'm still enjoying the series and everything that Daniel Schinhofen writes, but it is tough to transition from a fast paced book to the slow pace his have. It took me until the 35% mark where I finally felt part of the story and didn't get distracted by other things.

I won't recap the plot because there isn't much of one. Book six follows a familiar formula, where there is lots of training followed by a test at the end of the year. The editing is above average, and while Gregory, Jenn, and Yuki do have spines and bring them out when necessary, most of the time they're as soft as pudding.

I'd like to think that book seven will change the formula, but that's crazy talk. 5/5*

Mc

The entire book was not .really od.interest as I came.from.a.very small community and was.cordially invited.by the government to join the army and.visit viet man . I went thru years of special.training on and off.I attended the Sergeants Mahor.Academy . 1.5 years in viet nam with the 5 th SFG. The story is not far from the end but Greg has not.even come.near his full.power as the hero.magi he is supposed to become. As with many stories I have read about supposedly powerful Individuals reborn when the last book is read many of these heroes have still not found their power with no.good ending . we shall see what happens with this story . It is a good.read ,with way too .much dialog in general .The fact that much is written about what people do.for others and their character should show their worth to society rather than their race is what we all should emulate

much better
Out of all of Daniel Schinhofen's series Aether's Revival is the most repetitious and formulaic. So if any series of his was in desperate need of shaking up, it was this one. That it wasn't shaken up very much is fine, but it was getting monotonous.
Another concern I'd had was that all of Daniel Schinhofen's recent books have been steadily diminishing in quality, with each one seeming weaker than the last. This one is better than they have been in a wile and that's a relief.

Magi Guard still has some of the problems that have been plaguing his recent book, but it has them to a lesser degree.
Still not as good as his early books, but better than the last 5 or 6.

Loved every page.

Aether's Revival is one of those novels that takes things at their own pace, and does an excellent job in the process.

Seeing the character development, the training and adventures that Greg and his guards get up to is amusing, as with the tournament and I expected situations.

But it's truly the moments with his family and wives that make the series, with the love and attention they share among them and the moments they have with each other.

Book 7 is something I am both eagerly anticipating and dreading, as Greg takes his first posting with his Guard, it will be a long year...

A Slice of Life cultivation story

I like the way the story is progressing and this one there is more Slice of Life. what I mean by that is that there was a lot more growth for the individual characters as well as more growth in learning more about politics and the way of life on this world that the story takes place upon. there is a little bit of Entry as well as some decent battles also there's a little bit of spicy scenes here and there which were nice because usually those are not in cultivation stories which I think is what is lacking from some of those others type stories. anyway I digress I enjoyed the story so far can't wait to read more of what happens next.

Excellent

Best in the series by far can not wait for the next book, as soon as i got this one i read it from front to back in one go and it setup the next book perfectly .
In this one we have like a training montage of just how do you get a bunch of men or women and eurtick to become a cohesive fighting force also rules are enforced bribery and coruption fought against and plenty of fighting and levelling up plus he gets to enjoy his women, next book will be even more interesting but just like empire is the gap between wars and jedi it complements before and what comes next.

I read all the books and give 4 stars for this entire series. Yes, I enjoyed the series and while I didn’t keep turning pages way past bedtime, each was worth reading. The storyline is unique and loved the MC had the gift of foresight as opposed to being the biggest badass mage ever. Never the less, he was smart, resourceful, committed and mostly better than the rest. Very unique.

One complaint. Although the series ended on a positive note, Daniel left plenty of room to continue the series. Please, please continue the series!

Still hooked on this series!

This series is so good, every time a new book comes out I reread the prior one so I can remember what is going on. Just like all the others I read this in two days time and am now left waiting for more. Not as much action as some of the other books but it is a good setup for what comes next. I’m thinking that the posting at Krogga will be action packed.

great read!

Excellent addition to the series! We see Greg and his wives growing, commanding men, and kicking butt in yet another tournament. We hear about Nessa, Ling, Clover and the others also growing and proving themselves at the academy and we get more info about Darkness. I can’t wait for the next posting because hints have been dropped about the war brewing so I’d imagine the next 3 books are going to be interesting

Keep em coming

Well, I really liked the pace of this book, I can't help but wonder at the end game though, I mean am I the only one that's a little confused by what aether is supposed to do in the end game with all the other clans against him out of jealousy, much less the emperor. I get trying to free all the slaves and such but then what? Lol! Just gotta wait, I guess ,never disappointed with Daniels skills as a writer.

Training montages

I really enjoy how passionately the Aether's Guard Magi learn, and seeing it spread to the people around them is sweet. The whole training montage was cute, and the devotion the soldiers show seems unrealistically idealistic, but this is a book. I also don't know anything about real life military soldiers, so there is that too. The repeated exposure of the mistreated eurtik is very telling.

This book needs to come out sooner than every six months because its the best this author writes.

Good story but not long enough and certainly the author takes too long to get these out. I have read his other work and this is the best one yet. Hope he makes this a twenty book series and do the story right like he has so far.

Loved it!!!

Absolutely loved this book, slight turn from the standard but a good turn, it set the scene well for training and how it was done but doesn't reiterate it every time and allows for agreeable time jump of a few weeks of training before something new happens to Gregory which I felt was more relatable/agreeable

Cannot wait from the next book!!!

A Treat

This was enjoyable, and arrived just when I most wanted it.
The military training is vague enough to remain accurate, and specific enough to be recognizable. The training of an elite military unit says a lot about the nation.
It is unclear how well the next volume, the first deployment, will work but I am quite curious.

Excellent as normal

This book is a bit slower paced with less action and danger than previous books in the series. More interpersonal relationships being delved into and military command aspects rather than fights to the death. Still thoroughly enjoyable, lots of emotional content and the sexual activity is implied rather than described. Can’t wait for more.

Couldn't put it down!

This author has once again created a great story in a amazing series. I enjoy his collective books and can't wait for the next installments. I love all his other series as well. I recommend that you take a look, and hopefully, you'll find a great new read as well.

Better and better

This series has yet to disappoint, each book better than the last. The story progresses well, and the pacing is done well enough that the time passing is believable without getting bogged down with it. Overall this is a very good book, which is expected at this point for the author.

Okay

Gregorys first posting wasn't particularly exciting but introduced a few characters as did his combined posting with his wives , the harem and darkness are tedious as ever and I'm surprised the emperor hasn't taken more notice of Aethers revival of maybe he has and is just bidding his time.

Excellent

I'm always impressed by how deeply the author gets into the motivations of his characters. sure there are action pieces, as well as the romantic aspects, but this epic is more about what drives these individual to excel and strive for more. I love it. Can't wait for the next.
