"We just looked at each other, said wtf? and carried on"
Superlatively entertaining.
A fantastic collection of stories, very well structured with a combination of variety and thematic threads. Great mixture of scary, life-affirming or just bizarre. Loved the introduction to some very cool concepts or areas of paranormal experience - the 'hummadruz', two-dimensional creatures, someone encountering your exact double (I've experienced something similar, with the other person even starting to have a conversation with 'me'), encounters with ball lightning, and the concept of sudden panic attacks being caused by the God Pan! But perhaps the most powerful stories were those of the paranormal intersecting with technology.
Some great introductions to the chapters and great writing by the contributors - I looked up a few of the names expecting them to be professional writers, but was surprised this generally didn't seem to be the case! I was also draw to try and find out more about the most recurring story in the collection - the creep Burnley pay-phone whose story was backed up by four different accounts. Was disappointed not to find anything definitive about this, but interesting that this story seemingly originated with these first-hand accounts and has become a bit of a know creepy story online.
Fantastic tales, really enjoy these first-hand accounts of bizarre events, love the hand-drawn pictures of what people saw, and the self-awareness of how unbelievable some of these things are. Also really cool that a lot of these are set in remote places, and generally in the past, with a lot people telling stories from their younger years, adds an extra touch of the magical and uncanny...
I have alwats been facinated by the paranormal, such as ghost sightings and hauntings. But the book dealt with many paranormal themes like accounts of UFO,s, shape shifting animals and time warps which in which I am not too clear of. But the hauntings and sightings did leave to several chills up my spine.
Uma antologia de casos estranhos enviados à revista Fortean Times por seus leitores. Os casos são organizados por categorias, e são mais curiosos do que assustadores. Algumas vezes a leitura se tornou um pouco cansativa.
I love to read about genuine paranormal experiences and make up my own mind, not be force fed a conclusion and this didn't let me down. I read Fortean Times as well so am used to the format; this didn't let me down and there are some interesting experiences, give it a try if you like this sort of thing.
This is an interesting book. Its a collection of stories that have been sent in from people who have experianced some sort of paranormal activity. I love all things spooky and unexplainable and especially tonight on all hallows eve how could i resist!!
I DID enjoy this book but sometimes I got the feeling that some of the stories were put in just to add to the excitement but really they were just a teensy bit far fetched. This was my feeling anyway. Still went on to read the second one though, it hasn't put me off.
Could have done with less stories of the '40 years ago when I was 9 years of age' sort (never very convincing), and I'd have liked a lot more stories for my buck, but so original and thoroughly entertaining!
as enjoyable this is, its far to expensive for a kindle book. The paper copy is even more, yet its a tiny paper back book! The storys in it are good though, true life accounts.
