After landing an internship at a top music magazine in New York, aspiring rock journalist Ethan Ames thinks his career is set. Instead, Ethan finds himself in California with a girlfriend to whom he can't relate and a newspaper job he despises. So when he stumbles upon the love of his life in the pages of a discarded hardcore magazine, Ethan drops everything to find her, and with the help of a star reporter, finds out something about himself.
Funny and poignant, Gingham Blindfold is the story of what happens when an obsession over how life should be gets in the way of how life really is.
Eric Rohr began his career as an intern at Rolling Stone, later writing for the magazine and its website. He has since worked as a reporter, editor and graphic designer. He lives in Davis, California, with his wife and son. Gingham Blindfold is his first novel.
Fantastic read! The main character, Ethan Ames, is matched in both a tangible sense of humor and vulnerability as he searches to find the girl of his dreams. It's not the kind of girl you think she is, either. Ethan is constantly faced with that nagging internal question about life, the one that gets the best of us when we think we're bored with life. He experiences quite a bit while figuring out the answer ... we've all been down that road.
This was a fast read, with an unexpected and hopeful ending. I still don't understand Ethan's obsession with a porn star photo he found in a magazine at the bottom of a dumpster, but I suppose that's men.
Nicely done, Eric! My sister sent me this book...I knew you were writing but had no idea you had a novel floating around out there. Nice idea and well written!! Great depiction of Laramie too.
