As a mysterious figure plots to end the world, a young woman finds herself contending with an unusual personal problem. Demonic possession. While Brooklyn struggles for control of herself and the strange powers growing within, she runs afoul of both police and the leaders of a supernatural community she never knew existed.
Trapped in the tangled politics of this new world, where the good guys want her executed and the very worst would recruit her as an ally, Brooklyn soon discovers power-hungry humans are far deadlier than most demons.
Fighting for the freedom to choose her own fate, Brooklyn draws the eye of an ancient evil that will stop at nothing to bring her under its control. With her parents and young nephew suddenly threatened, can she find a way to master the abilities she wields? Or will her family pay for her failure with their lives?
Tony Galloway, author of Solomon’s Ring and Soul Stones, was a voracious reader from a young age. In the long ago times, before e-readers and two-day shipping were a thing, he could often be found checking the mailbox for books he’d purchased weeks prior with postal money orders. Now with two, mostly useless, college degrees to back him up, he’s balancing a day job with writing novels of his own. He lives in the North Georgia Mountains with his lovely wife and admires her as she does a much better job than him of raising four teenagers. In addition to novels, Tony has published various automotive DIY articles, one book review, and a couple of online serial stories. This is the first book in the Demon Powers Trilogy by Tony Galloway and this is the first book that I have read by this author. It felt like multiple stories going on in one book…it has a tendency to jump between all of them which can make it harder to follow. I felt like I needed a bit more information on Kurt and why he was doing what he does, he has a whole story of his own which could be told. In fact it felt like this with Belial too. Know obviously I have no idea what is going to happen in the other books in the series, so maybe things will be covered in them too. This is the first time I have read a book in this genre and whilst I have enjoyed reading the book I have had to stop ever now and then and process what has been going on before continuing. Brooklyn is a fascinating character and I do want to see how she develops as this trilogy continues. I enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down once I got myself into it. Not at all what I was expecting but I would read the rest of this series.
This seemed like a book I would really enjoy, so I requested a copy. This jumps between multiple POVs, so it takes a bit to realize what is going on, who’s doing what, and what exactly is everyone’s motivations. Well, it’s actually a little more than that, but this simplifies it for now. Once you realize what is happening, you settle in for a great time. This book sort of reminds me more of an epic urban fantasy than an urban fantasy, and epic are not a favorite of mine. I also felt that almost all of the characters are morally gray, which I don’t mind, but most time, I like to know who the “bad” guy is. LOL! This is an interesting book, and I’ll definitely read the next one. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
4☆☆☆☆ Fantastic book. It takes a little getting into. Several stories blending together does make it a little confusing. Demons, demonriders, witches, and more supernatural elements. Book is filled with alot of interesting characters. This is book 1 in the series, will definitely read more.
Intense, dramatic, traumatic, descriptive, dark/gory scenes. Brooklyn goes through a lot, I keep hoping it is all an intense dream, (will have to read future books in series to find out). People who like reading about demons, underworld, possession will enjoy this.
This was a great way to start a new series. The character work and story line were well written. I was hooked from beginning to end. I can't wait to see where this series will take us.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
