The Weird Fiction Review is an annual periodical devoted to the study of weird and supernatural fiction. This 12th issue contains fiction, poetry, and reviews from leading writers and promising newcomers. This issue features fiction by John Langan, William F. Nolan, Graham Masterton, Ramsey Campbell, Mark Howard Jones, and others, and articles by Ron Clinton (a collector’s guide to Necessary Evil Press), John Probert on film, an interview with Graham Masterton, a lengthy, illustrated article on pinball artist Greg Freres, a tribute to small press publisher W. Paul Ganley, an article on Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite, a lengthy illustrated essay on Ray Bradbury and Chas. Addams by John Tibbetts, and a tribute to John Pelan by Jessica Amanda Salmonson, as well as other essays. The front and back cover, and inside covers, and a special interview and portfolio inside, are by legendary artist Stephen Fabian.
I had to buy it when I saw that it features Stephn Fabian's work so prominently and was not disappointed by a folio of his terrific work. (Originally knew him from his AD&D Ravenloft work from the boxed sets of the early 90s.) The fiction was terrific and the article on Weirdbook and W Paul Ganley's publishing career sent me down some rabbitholes to be followed up on shortly. I skimmed the articles and such, but found most interesting the last piece on the intersection of Bradbury, Capote, Henry Kuttner and Charles Addams, and how their own home lives and families had influenced some of their own notable works on families. All in all, can't wait to get the back issues... I have been missing a lot.
Another good addition to the Weird Fiction Review series. The stories and articles are super cohesive and allows the book to come off as well thought out.
More articles than fiction but all were good articles/stories.
