Polynesia Henman has an unusual back story. As a child she once solved a murder that baffled the police. But that was years ago. Now she’s a journalist, bored to tears writing lifestyle articles for The Daily Herald, while all the time dreaming of becoming an investigative reporter. At last the perfect job comes up, and she’s devastated when it goes to her arch rival, the poisonous and manipulative Alice Smith.
But then the editor is brutally murdered, and Polynesia sees her chance. She’s determined to prove her investigative credentials by finding the killer. Persuading her eccentric father and her best friend, Jess, to join her, she sets about tracking down a murderer.
But can she solve the crime before the killer strikes again?
Fast-paced and humorous, this crime classic will keep you guessing to the end.
Polynesia Henman isn't your average 30-something. She'd already had a solved murder mystery under her belt by the time she was 12. She's hoping to channel that talent into a soaring career as an intrepid reporter, but gets more than she bargained for when someone turns up dead at the offices of the Herald...
The characters grab you, the writing is fresh, and there were plenty of parts where I found myself giggling out loud. I think Murder at the Herald is a fun romp and I truly enjoyed reading it. Would recommend to anyone!
Absolutely loved this novel - it was the perfect blend of sarcastic humour, interesting character lines with a suspenseful plot. I did not expect the ending which kept things interesting. I loved the characters and the tone of the book. Whilst it was a mysterious murder mystery the humour kept it light and made it so enjoyable to read. Quickest I've read a fiction novel in a long time. I kept wanting to find time to read more but was also sad to have finished the book! Would thoroughly recommend to wide range of audiences! Highly recommend!
2 stars is a bit generous really. It’s very jolly-hockey-sticks and the supposedly intellectually superior Cambridge graduate main character) is very stupid. The ending (revelation of the murderer) is very silly. It doesn’t really come over as amusing as the writer probably thinks it is.
