From New York Times bestselling author Joanne DeMaio comes The Visitor, Book 18 of The Seaside Saga.
In the dark of a summer night, everything can change. A moment can tip on edge. The salt air might stir. Or still. The waves might roll in. Or recede. A heart might fill. Or break. In two different cottages, the night is coming undone. As the sun sinks into the sea, as evening presses in, the summer calm is broken. Until an unexpected visitor arrives.
And The Seaside Saga continues.

Joanne DeMaio is the prolific New York Times bestselling author of The Seaside Saga and other novels. She lives with her family in Connecticut and is currently at work on upcoming books.
In The Visitor, the beach friends' story continues where The Barlows left off. Author Joanne DeMaio transports the reader back to the tranquil seashore town of Stony Point, Connecticut. The story picks up in early September, where our beach friends lives are like the tides, sometimes they keep moving and changing, but they will always have the support of their friends and family.
In The Visitor, Author Joanne DeMaio easily captivates her readers' attention with this beautifully written tale through a seamless and flowing storyline, and with a wonderful description of a tranquil beach setting that wraps itself around the reader like a sun-warmed beach towel. The characters draw you into their lives with a strong emotional pull, their complexities and flaws are true-to-life, it is easy to relate to them with compassion, empathy, and hope.
The Visitor is an intricate story of interweaving friendships and ever changing life events. It is a wonderful story that continues to demonstrate the power of the magical sweet salt air that will cure what ails you. In this eighteenth installment in The Seaside Saga Series, the author weaves a story that focuses on a traumatic incident that affects Shane Bradford, and how his family and friends provide support and love to help him cope with it.
Shane unexpectedly has to deal with a traumatic incident on the lobster boat that will forever change his life. He is very distraught and panicked so he calls Jason ... needless to say the beach friends and family reach out to Shane at his home in Rockport, Maine, to assist him in coping with his grief, and how to deal with his life one hour at a time.
I loved how this installment's main focus is on Shane, and how a traumatic incident provides a life lesson, and strengthens the love and support provided to him by the beach friends and family, and how it shows the beach friends how to embrace and live in the moment. As the beach friends embrace Shane and each other in good and bad times, life's surprises and changes shows them how some things are trivial, and how it's the people in their lives that are most important. I think this was the most emotional of the books in the series, you can't help but feel the full gamut of emotions as Shane deals with a very traumatic incident, and how his struggle is lessened by the love and support of his friends and family.
At the end of the book, the author teases her readers with another cliffhanger ending: waiting on how Elsa, Cliff, Mitch, Celia and Shane's relationships will turn out. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what is revealed in Stairway To The Sea, the nineteenth installment of the series ... sigh.
In this installment in the series, the reader follows along with the beach friends' lives that are full of friendship, love, secrets, regrets, challenges, heartbreak, grief, surprises, and second chances. As you read this installment, the beach friends continue along in their life journey in Stony Point.
So now that I have whet your interest in the beach friends latest comings and goings, drive under the railroad trestle and enter the enchanting beach town of Stony Point ... pull up a beach chair ... and visit with the close-knit longtime friends in author Joanne DeMaio's delightful novel, The Visitor.
The Seaside Saga Series is a heartwarming series of stories of friendship, family, painful secrets, new beginnings and second chances. Author Joanne DeMaio weaves a wonderful tale written in the third person narrative, that is set in the present with flashbacks to the past. The reader is transported to the tranquil seashore town of Stony Point, Connecticut, where they follow along with Celia, Maris, Eva, Matt, Jason, Kyle, Lauren, Nick, Elsa, Cliff, and Shane as their lives change like the tide's ebb and flow on their little tranquil coastal town.
The Visitor starts off pretty intense! Shane is in a bad way and reaches out, but eventually cuts off the phone call to his friend. What is going on? Is Shane okay? Well, obviously, he's not.
The drama just continues on from there. But Stony Point friends are going to be there for their friends. Always. That's just the way it is in that close-knit community. Friends being friends.
I always love my visits to Stony Point and being able to catch up with the lives of the people of this lovely town.
I love this whole series and The Visitor was another wonderful reading escape for me. I can't wait for the next book so I can visit Stony Point again. If you have not picked up these books yet, you really should. You will come to love this community and these people as much as I do.
By this time, if you’ve read all the books to up to this point, you are invested in each of the characters. They are your friends, your family, and you feel their pain and their joy. This time, the pain is palpable, but it’s a pain shared among the whole family, and you just want to reach out and console them, especially Shane, who has suffered an unbearable loss. There are several little side dramas - of course, there are - and in some instances, you find yourself weighing whose team to be on (definitely Team Shane, that’s a given, but … Team Cliff or Team Mitch?). I have to admit that I read it slowly, as I get anxious nearing the cliffhanger ending. August 1st can’t come quickly enough.
The Visitor is the latest book in the Seaside Saga, and this book revolves around my two favorite characters, Shane and Celia. There is something special about these two characters, their back stories filled with loss and heartache, but the sparks and tenderness between them are healing and wonderful. In this book, though, Shane is reeling from grief, 5 hours away from Celia, the distance looming between them. The emotions in this book are raw, sincere, and heartbreaking. Even though this is Shane’s story, I love that the author also lets us catch up with all of people who love on the pages of these books.
The book starts out with a frantic phone call to Jason from Shane who’s in a bad way. The raw emotion in this book is front and center throughout this book. The way Jason and then Celia are there for Shane is amazing and just what Shane needs to help him through. The characters in the Seaside Saga are always there for each other. Joanne draws you in and you feel like you are right there and part of the crowd. I can’t wait for book 19 to see what happens next with the crew. So hoping that Celia and Shane let everyone know how they feel about each other! If you haven’t read Joanne’s books, pick one up today - you will enjoy it!
Another awesome book by Joanne DeMaio. Every time I pick up a book by her I know it will be good. I tell myself I'm gonna read a little each day so it will last longer. Unfortunately that doesn't happen. I just can't put it down.
Her characters are awesome. Whenever one of them needs something every one is there for them.
It’s sadness this time that visits our Sea Saga friends, as one of our favorite characters experiences a devastating loss of a friend. Loneliness and heartache is felt by all and its only love that can bring the needed healing. The author has written this book with heartache, tenderness and deep understanding of the loss. I received an ARC from the author and this review is my opinion.
The Visitor is an incredible addition to the Seaside Saga Series. From the first chapter it evokes so many emotions as we again enter the beach town of Stony point. It’s now Fall with its morning mist and chill in the special salt air. We find our friends have again been reminded to value every moment with loved ones. Witnessing the depth of their friendship. How they instinctively know how to help when one of their own is in need and make this a priority. However some are also struggling with emotions on a different level. Finding it necessary to keep secrets to preserve their relationships and not hurt a loved one’s feelings. Again a book so descriptive we too are left feeling unsettled and waiting for a resolution. Hopefully some will happen in Stairway to The Sea… the upcoming addition to the Seaside Saga.
The Visitor by Joanne DeMaio is book number 18 in the Seaside Saga series. Like all the other books, you’re immediately drawn in like you’ve gone to visit your old friends and you’re having a reunion. Shane is in the middle of a crisis and Jason and Celia struggle to figure out how to best support him. Celia is still hiding her relationship with Shane from Elsa. Elsa is still trying to decide on Mitch or Cliff. I remain on TEAM CLIFF. As always, there is a cliffhanger and I will have to wait until August to see what is in store next for the gang. If you have not started this series, Summer is a great time to pick this up and if you have, enjoy.
Wow. This next episode in the Seaside Saga series really hit close to home with me after losing a few close friends and family and feeling what Shane went through losing his best friend. It also made me smile at the support he received from Jason, Maris, Kyle, etc. It also warmed my heart at the love felt between Jason and Maris, and Celia and Shane also can understand why Elsa has a hard time seeing who she feels a closeness to between Cliff and Mitch. Looking forward to reading the next book in August. Kudos again to Joanne and this amazing series.
I always try to read these slowly but it's nearly impossible. Interesting to see who Shane calls on when he's in a crisis. I love how everyone responds in natural beach friends fashion. Still many unanswered questions and open ended situations. I'm already looking forward to the next installment.
What is Shane about to say? I don't know how she does it but Joanne DeMaio continues to keep us connected to the people at Stony Point & has left me on the edge of my seat at the conclusion of the Visitor. Thrilled we only have to wait until August to get answers.
I absolutely loved this book. I’m a huge fan of Joanne DeMaio and all her books especially the Seaside Saga. The Visitor is another great read by her. The entire Seaside Saga is not to be missed as well as her Winter reads which are great holiday stories. You won’t be disappointed and also share with your friends. Great Book Club reads also.
I was disappointed in this story. It lacked any real substance. I felt it set up the characters but didn’t really pull it all together. The premise was sad in a lobsterman dying while lobstering. How his death affects people is basically the story. The ending left me with more questions than satisfaction.
This one was a sad one for me. The emotions of loosing someone are so real. So much compassion and carrying from true friends. Can’t wait to fine out the next big question on what Captain has to say?!
The Visitor (The Seaside Saga Book 18) by by Joanne DeMaio This book starts out with one of the crew asking for help but in his own words... he is not sure anybody can help him at all. Love catching up with everybody who comes to Stony Point, CT. Glimpses of their past years there and the main tragic events of their lifes. Love hearing how not only one answers the call for help but many others in their own way. Such a tragic event, emotional, couldn't put this down til I was totally finished, was reading to fast I got it done in just a few hours. Love the adventures, the architecture, the water, memontos of those gone who still matter and can make a difference, caring and sharing and just being there for one another. Seeing fear and anger erupt as others rush to give hugs, and not just a short hug, hte longer ones that matter. Summers over at the point and construction can resume. More notes of Neil's notebook, love all these gems. Potato on muddy pants, lobster gauge cufflink, pewter watch, all memories of many linked together.
It's always so good to be back at Stony Point to catch up on the news that follows The Barlows! The Visitor starts off with such anticipation - What is wrong with Shane? Jason receives a shocking phone call from Shane with no answer to why Shane is so upset and angry - This story is reeling with grief, sadness, yet as always, love and hope, as Jason and Maris, and Cecilia are first to offer help for Shane. The beautiful descriptions and prose of this author 's writing never ceases to amaze me. I can't wait for the next sequel to find out more with Elsa, and her loves...and more of what happens to whom next!! I feel so close to these characters , I too share their feelings, just like I am right there with them in the story shedding tears or experiencing their joy - they are so relatable.
The Visitor continues the story of the Seaside friends. As always, Joanne takes us on a rollercoaster of emotions in her books. In this book, a young man’s life is tragically cut short & it deals so well with all the emotions that go with such an event. But, true friends rally together to support each other. It continues with the stories of the other characters in the book and the struggles they are facing. There is some humor included, too. Once again, it was a page-turner for my. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
Another amazing journey in the Seaside saga centering on Shane and Celia.Am emotionally packed storyline as Shane deals with the unexpected death of a “brother”.The gang always pulls together to support each other in good or bad times. The author skillfully weaves in other objects from previous novels, the little red sailboat and those ocean stars. That trestle bridge that one asks themselves which of the 3 questions are they answering when they drive beneath it.As always I try to pace myself reading but it is just too intriguing and you simply cannot stop until the book ends in a cliffhanger!Anxiouly counting down the days for the next book .
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Ive read the whole series & while Joanne DeMaio writes with an extreme amount of description & fluff the books are quick, easy reads. The language is this book, The Visitor, was terrible in many places, unlike her previous books. Still pondering on where the title came from. The endings always leave you having to purchase the next book to see what happens & sometimes it can take the entire book.
I see you left us with a good cliff hanger here is this there last lobster haul as the fishing industry is moving or is this the captain telling Shane you need to be careful today I know your in pain and we can’t have you working yourself to death so you can’t feel can’t wait for the next book
If you have never read any of Joanne DeMaio’s books you really need to start! You need to make these characters part of your literary family, because after the first book that’s exactly what they will become. Then each book is better than the last and you can’t hardly wait for the next one to see what the family is up to! I urge you to join our family. Thanks Joanne for writing another awesome book!
This story, involves some of our beach friends,in unexpected ways. Our beach friends hear shocking news, and have their own ways of dealing with it.What next, you may think…indeed!
The 18th in the Seaside Saga series takes you on a heartbreaking visit with the group. But, as always, love and friendship prevail through the difficult times. The ending left me checking a few times to see if I missed the last pages, so good thing #19 is waiting for me!
Seriously addicted to this series and Joanne DeMaio does not disappoint!!! Now I will be having severe withdrawals until I can read the next new release!!!! 👏👏🙏🏻💗💐
Once again Joanna catches us back on on the friends of Stony Point and what they been dealing with. She also gives Shane a new hardship to face and leaves readers hanging with loose ends
