நீ நிறமாலை: Nee Niramaalai

Rate this book

Nee niramalai is a story of two people varun and prana who are very different in their approaches yet have the same objective. It talks about the many shades present in people and how its not right to sit on a moral high horse and judge people without walking their path. Sometimes life gives us the difficult choice of choosing the lesser of the evils.
Right from the cover page to the simple blue colour which represents both the Sky and the Sea, there are many symbols which highlights the main theme of the story.
Varun is the mayor of Padhulai where Prana works on a nursery school project as part of their ngo. She goes to meet the mayor to ask him if the school can own the land which he duly refuses. Its understood from their behaviour that they both have a past. The reason for their anger is slowly revealed.
In this world some sort of strategy and caution has to be exercised even to be altruistic. Otherwise things can go south any time.
Can an emotionally driven person and intellectually driven person join hands in life? Who decides whats right and what's wrong? If the cause is good should the means be scrutinised? These are some of the difficult questions to answer. The author has built the story on this premise in an interesting way.
Trust and understanding go a long way in any relationship. This is beautifully picturised through Varun and Prana in the novel. They fight a lot. But one can never miss the undercurrent of love which causes the fight. We expect a lot from the people we love. Any slip will be unbearable for us and we go with all guns blazing. In the process we might fail to see things from the other person's viewpoint and worse misunderstand them and hurt ourselves and them. Given some time and the willingness to see through we can win together.
The model village project is explained so well. The author has to be applauded for explaining the subject she takes in depth and in an engaging way. What are the problems a somewhat morally inclined politician will face, what are the roadblocks a ngo has to cross are all explained in the story. We can learn a thing or two apart from enjoying the interesting story line. It's not easy to give take ways without the reader even knowing and that's where Ushanthy stands apart.
The problems faced by the poor people is shown in a subtle way throughout the story which is heart touching.
The other characters like Vikky, nayani, sudha, sarangan, deepan and pranas and varuns parents all have something to offer.
Most novels of ushanthy have a classy humour element which is there in this story too. Humour is the highest form of wit and that comes naturally for the author.
All in all this story has all the ingredients in the right proportion. A must must must read

Very nice story

Very good writing. Varun and pranavi both lead characters are very nice. I liked this story. But still I felt something is missing in the story. Ending felt Incomplete. Story plot is weak compare to the previous stories. The lead character's work took the center stage than the characters. First half is normal but Second half is amazing. Good one.
