While Wendy and the kids flee with their relatives, Zach's journey south is fraught with danger.
In the frozen wasteland north of Alaska, a series of mega-rigs operated by joint USA/Russian teams go up in flames, killing thousands of workers and destroying a trillion dollars' worth of equipment.
After barely surviving the initial firestorm, mechanic Zach Christensen is trapped in the arctic, five thousand miles from his wife and children back home in Connecticut, struggling just to find enough fresh air to breathe, let alone the strength to find his way back home.
While governments try to hide the scope of the disaster, the fissures caused by the rigs continue to spread billions of tons of hydrocarbons into the atmosphere, spreading fires and toxins that are consuming not just the arctic, but the entire planet....
Welcome to my little space out on the web. I'm Kenny Soward, and I'm an author, musician, and once IT guy. I write books in many sub-genres of Science Fiction and Fantasy, including post-apocalyptic, military science fiction, epic fantasy, and horror. I'm influenced by authors such as Stephen King, George R. R. Martin, Anne Rice, J.K. Rowling, Mark Lawrence, Dan Simmons, Robin Hobb, Robert McCammon, Larry Correia, and Mike Kraus.
I love all kinds of movies and shows from Battle Star Galactica (reboot) to the Walking Dead. There's nothing I won't try.
I grew up in Kentucky in a small suburb just south of Cincinnati, Ohio, listening to hard rock and playing outdoors. In those quiet 1970's streets, I jumped bikes, played Nerf football, and came away with many scars.
My grandfather and many of my uncles and cousins served in the United States Military, and my father was a Kentucky State Trooper. Their efforts taught me the meaning of sacrifice and gratitude. I've always had an avid curiosity about the world around me, and I hope my enthusiasm for life carries over into my stories, even the dark ones.
While the world falls apart with devastating extreme weather events, originating from the international governments-led drilling initiative at the Alaskan Rift, several storylines intertwine the continuing struggle for survival against the odds. Focusing primarily on the separated members of the Christensen family - dad Zack with a team of scientists and others vital to sealing the Rift and dealing with the post-Apocalyptic aftermath, and mom Wendy with kids Charlie and Mike with danger and adversity at every turn in Pennsylvania - survival for all is by no means guaranteed. Will they ever be reunited?

This continues a good series and thanks for the recap of the prior 2 volumes. I'm still surprised that there was not a stronger military escort to get the scientists to DC. This was a priority for the president of the United States after all. I guess Zach's story would be less interesting though. I am also not surprised so many people were bailing from the Pentagon and at the same time, astounded that Stephanie remained away from her kids that long. The Amish dynamic was interesting if not frustrating. I was surprised in my admittedly uninformed view of that sect that they would use guns to defend themselves from other people. I look forward to book 4.
You will be entertained on almost every page. Very fast paced and well written. It is a series of books that tells one story with new characters and scenarios from time to time.
Very, very enjoyable series. A new way to see things and fanatics characters. Can't wait to start the next book. Very well written and the action never stops. Make time for this one and expect a few less hours sleep. Enjoy!!?
