But Hevven is a town with a bloody past, and a dark secret. After a chance encounter with a serial killer, six teenagers uncover the grisly truth about their home town. Now, wanted by the police for a murder they did not commit and stalked by a madman who will stop at nothing to silence them, Mike Swart and his friends make a desperate decision that will alter their lives forever. At a remote cabin in the mountains of New Hampshire, six teenagers will make a stand against an evil from which they cannot escape. But can they survive long enough to share their secret with the world? A novel that offers suspenseful action and intense drama, Rice's Rebel Angels is an exciting thriller that keeps the reader glued to its pages well into the wee hours of the morning.

This wasn't quite what I expected. I guess this was tamer than I thought it would be?
I'm only shelving it under horror, because I read it with expectation...and there is enough of a monster/horror thrown in to justify it.

But at it's heart, this book wasn't a horror novel. It was the story of teenage friends and their bond of friendship and their way of dealing with life, death and growing up. I enjoyed this read immensely!

I think it bugged me a little that the cops set the kids up sooo easily. And then failed completely at finding them. There is no way that they could just disappear a couple states over and fall completely off the radar.

But otherwise I liked this book! I liked the mystery, the way the kids just sort of stumble into trouble. I liked that the stupid cop ended up being the cop I liked. I even liked the aftermath, and that it wasn't super happy (and that we got one at all).

An excellent coming-of-age type novel that introduces us to five teenage friends and their encounter with a vicious serial killer. The young lead characters are well-defined and likable. While it doesn't really fit the 'horror' tag, it is violent at times. And while I wish that the characterization of the killer were better defined, I was satisfied with the novel's denouement. Recommended.

This is the story of 5 good friends who are finished with high school and looking to the future. Although they like to drink a bit much and get high, one is looking forward to college and the others aren't sure where they are going yet. Mike's little brother Lou is part of the group even though he's younger. Mike and his brother, Max and Rick decide to go out for the evening. Their friend Kevin is in rehab. They are racing down a country road when a rookie cop takes chase. They lose the cop when Max remembers the old Moody place down a side road. What they find there changes their lives forever.

I would rate this as 3.5 if I could. The story starts out very scary and quite the page turner, then it gets a bit unbelievable and at times slow during the middle. The ending was good again.
