I was initially torn between 3 and 4 stars for this book. In the end, I went with 3. I liked the short chapters that moved the overall story along at a fast pace. I liked the multiple storylines initially but eventually the jumping around, along with the 400+ pages, began to wear on me. By the end of the book I was exhausted and just wanted it to be over and done with. I was looking forward to seeing how the author's would tie things up but ended up disappointed. Finally, I found the modern idioms jarring when used in the historical storylines. A noble effort with an interesting premise that seemed fairly well researched but it was a miss for me. Sorry.

History of Lies is a captivating and thought-provoking conspiracy thriller that will challenge everything you thought you knew about history. This epic novel is replete with suspenseful twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat, eagerly anticipating what will happen next. The non-linear narrative style, alternating chapters between past and present, adds an extra layer of depth to the story and heightens the suspense.

The novel's central theme is the ability of a select few to recall their past lives and the deliberate suppression of this truth by a powerful group known as the Pantheon. From the formation of the Akkadian civilization to the quests of Alexander the Great, the rule of Julius Caesar, and the reign of Azes the Great, the novel spans several centuries. It explores the interconnectivity of historical events through the same individuals driven by a lust for power.

The protagonists, Ben Preston, and Riya Patel, embark on a perilous journey to uncover the suppressed memories of Ben's past lives, with the Pantheon in hot pursuit. The authors' superb storytelling skills bring the characters to life, and their excellent writing will keep you rooting for Ben and Riya until the end. The alternating chapters that delve into the past enable the reader to piece together the puzzle and unravel the mysteries surrounding the characters' intertwined pasts.

History of Lies is an action-packed and fast-paced thriller that transcends genres, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a compelling novel that is consistently entertaining. I appreciated the depth of the world-building and the intricacy of the plot. All of this came together to make a very entertaining read that will keep readers flipping the pages and yearning for more.

Complex Web of Lies Through Time

Every now and then, I enjoy a good thriller, though it is not my typical reading jam. I found this particular conspiracy thriller a delicious read from the very start, when we don't really comprehend everything the story will eventually be about. The author deftly weaves together disparate threads that ultimately make sense as a singular history of lies. As someone who has enjoyed reading about metaphysics for decades, I love how in the very first scene we learned that one aspect of the occult has been scientifically proven, and later we learn we learn it is a very basis of the history of lies. I like how the author smartly and seamlessly interwove detailed historical facts and imaginative fiction to make for a compelling, page-turning read. I read voraciously, and this one is pleasantly different in so many ways. If you would like to mix up your typical reading and try something completely different or if you already enjoy thrillers steeped in history, check out this book.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

holy wow

What a ride! This book takes you on ups and downs, back-and-forth, side to side’s, and leaves you hanging upside down.

The writing is on point as well as the pacing and character development. Minimal character development though because most of the focus is on the plot. Totally fine for a story like this. Although it’s very involved and leaves you wondering what the heck you just read. Was that a fact or fiction? The story takes so many historical events but it definitely leaves you wondering what’s real and what isn’t.

You know it's creepy when you read your thoughts in a book lmao. Not totally. I love conspiracies and have often wondered what would happen if we had past lives. If that is truly a thing. I've had deja Vu etc. I also wonder if it would be a horror to remember the past like that. Especially if your life revolved around things such as this. It's a scary thing.

Great story

The story alternates between the past and present. Painting a picture of the life of Alexander the great and unraveling lies in the modern time after the death of a research doctor.

A rollercoaster ride through the annals of time

The book's attempt to connect a wide array of historical events can at times feel rushed, a bit confusing and left me yearning for deeper exploration. The scope of the narrative sometimes strains believability, and the constant twists, while shocking, occasionally undermine character development and emotional investment.
"History of Lies" joins the ranks of notable thrillers that challenge our perceptions of time and truth. With its provocative premise and relentless pacing, it offers a fresh take on the questions that have long fascinated human beings. Despite a few missteps, this book delivers a thought-provoking and enjoyable read. It is bound to appeal to those who like its historical context with a side of heart-thumping action and speculative wonder.
