The Dregs #6

The Hacker

Rate this book
She’s on the hunt for the truth. I’m trying to keep her in the dark. What will happen if she discovers I’m the man who killed her father?

Shannon

When my father is murdered and the police have no leads, I decide to conduct my own investigation. My prime suspect is a dreg called the Hacker. Blatantly masculine and hot as hell, the Hacker is a formidable adversary.

But I won’t let that stop me. If he killed my father, then he’s going down.

Noah

I steal secrets. I can slip through any firewall, decrypt any document, hack any electronic device. Nothing is safe from me.

When someone is researching me, I take notice.

The senator’s daughter is on to me. An investigative reporter hunting for the truth about her father’s death, she’s an unstoppable force. She knows the Hacker was involved.

Unable to resist her pull, I dare her to find me, leaving a trail of crumbs for her to follow.

She takes the bait.

I now have two choices: Scare her away. Or reveal the truth.

Something about Shannon makes my heart quiver. Her boldness and courage speak to the warrior in me. Her beauty stops me in my tracks.

But how far will she go for her story?

If I allow her into my life, she can destroy me and my dreg brothers.

But if I let her go, I will lose my only chance at love.

The Hero: Noah - he was a dreg and was known as The Hacker because of his high IQ and his abilities with all kinds of computers and electronics. His former cell mate Logan was his best friend, and they had a bond like each of the dregs have with their former cell mates. Noah told Logan he would soon join him and some of the other dregs in Idaho, but first he planned on finding out what was in the encrypted files he found from ‘The Company’, the ones that had held them until they escaped.

“The General allowed me to visit the electronics room for several hours each day, always under observation. Nothing I did ever went unnoticed. I was constantly monitored. Kept under close watch. And my abilities were honed, strengthened, and put to The General’s use. I soon became one of the best hackers in the world.”

“The General never expected my abilities to come back to haunt him. He never expected me to use my dreg talent against him. The day the dregs escaped, I hacked into The General’s server and transferred twenty million dollars into another account. I stole most of his fortune and shared it with my dreg brothers. If I’d had time and the means, I would have also stolen all The Company data, but we’d been fighting for our lives that day, and escaping was our main priority.”

The heroine: Shannon - she was an investigative reporter for a Georgia TV news station and a top internet blogger where she posted articles, including her own opinions. She was also the daughter of the senator that Noah had found out was one of the major shareholders of The Company. The Senator and two men had found Noah two weeks ago, and the two guards had beat him badly before the senator shot him, then Noah and Logan had killed the senator. Shannon’s last blog post stated she intended to find her father’s killer, but she had gone silent since then.

The story: Noah had been researching Shannon. Ever since he first saw a picture of her, he had been fascinated, but he wanted to see how much she knew about her father’s activities. Had the senator kept his double life hidden from her, or was she also a part of The Company? When he discovers that it might be Shannon that hired a private investigator to look into him, he decides to step in before they get too close.

I have really enjoyed this series so far. When I find a series like this that I really enjoy, I tend to read a few books, then take a break and then a few more and another break. I think that is the best way to do it so that the stories don’t all sound similar and you can really enjoy each one. So, it has been a bit since I read the last one and I was more than ready for this one. Though I found that I easily remembered the prior books and one thing I remembered was that there are always surprises in these stories. It isn’t often that I read a romance where something unpredictable really surprises me, and these stories have been good at that. This one especially so. I definitely plan to read the last two books very soon. I wish there were more in this series.

“I was certainly getting a bigger story than I’d bargained for. In fact, it was no longer just a story. It was very real. And I was now a major player. I’d become what I despised most in stories. The damsel in distress.”

A nail-biting steamy romance. I really did like this novel. Not because it was flawless, because it wasn't. The idea was a cross between an action-packed suspense thriller, a steamy sexy romance, and X-men. The evil forming the backbone of the story riled me up so much that I had an increased heart rate throughout reading this book and my need to wanting to read about righting the injustice, horror and immoral terror The Company unleashed on the characters in this book was overwhelming. I feel though that the scientific explanation behind the way the changes were elicited and achieved in the characters was somewhat uninformed. Although foreign DNA, spliced into an embryonic DNA can be achieved but injecting DNA into an adult intravenously is highly unlikely to result in lasting change if any. The main characters of this book are Shannon and Noah. Killing Shannon’s father wasn’t the best guarantee for a lasting, trusting relationship and Shannon although is determined to bring her father’s killer to justice, she cannot deny her confusing feelings for Noah who gradually introduces the naive and totally oblivious Shannon to her father. This situation is a typical example of a very bitter pill to swallow, which is nothing compared to the heart-stopping horrors that Hughes has in store for Shannon. Is that the ultimate peak of tension achieved in this book? No! Finding out who was behind all the atrocities and inhuman suffering would give anyone the shock of their lives. By this time, Shannon is head over heels in love with Noah and against all the odds, which you’ll find look insurmountable, we are rewarded for all our anxieties with a lovely HEA. Thus there is no need to reach for a Beta-blocker. The characters are very well described and the dialogues are not only appropriate but the scenes so are descriptive, you feel as though you are watching on the screen. The author even managed to inject some witty dialogue into the storyline. I would recommend this book without hesitation.

Leslie’s books just keep getting better and better. Either that equally good just different skill set involved . The hacker has been hacked and now he wants to know by who. Is it Shannon
Collins, daughter of Senator Collins and a member of “the Company” and a stunner in looks too. She’s also an investigative reporter determined to find out how her father really died. You can bet they’re passed will cross at least once. Should be interesting to see how many fireworks ignite. Unfortunately, Shannon has gotten more nasty people on her case who wants her story destroyed and forgotten. Will he Hscket and the other Dregs help to get her out of trouble ? They’re all big softies when it comes to a lady in danger. Add in more interactions w the company, a member of the company who wants Shannon for himself and has been stalking her for awhile. He’s also been they all the training the Dregs have gone thru and possibly more so he isn’t the usual badass these guys team up again. Oh and have I mentioned he’s also a “tad” unhinged. Also, what role has Shannon’s Mommie Dearest be doing while all this is going down. Basically it’s not just fireworks but a huge 4th of July explosion. It’s a great read w plenty of action and a number of quirky twists to keep you glued to the book till you can read the next in series , whenever it comes out bwa ha ha😫I give it a solid 10 out of 5 lol

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "THE HACKER" Shannon Collins is an investigative reporter out to fine her father Senator Collins murderer but she get more than she bargained for.
Noah is trying to keep Shannon out of the Dregs business and finding out he killed her father in self defense he and Luke and Ryan try to scare her away she's in the woods close to where they are.
Noah has had a fascination about Shannon they have a connection that's why he hasn't left with his other Dreg brothers he still in town with Luke and Ryan.
This story was so on the edge of your seat rollercoaster ride full of Intrigue, suspense, betrayal, secrets, lies, action, steam, twists that have you turning page after page.
The characters are so interesting, entertaining well developed you just can't put this book down until finished reading Leslie Georgeson has done an awsome job writing this series it's addicting.
I definitely recommend to get this book it's so well worth the read I can't wait for the next book the "EXTRACTOR" RYAN'S story it can't come soon enough. AWSOME AWSOME SERIES A MUST HAVE!!!!!!

Exciting and full of twists
Good romance full of doubts, with a slight hint of science fiction on research to develop adolescent soldiers. It's very well written, full of twists and turns, with two heroes tormented between wanting the truth, a strong attraction and a lack of confidence in everyone, even the person who attracts them.
Noah is a young hacker whose killer and hacking skills developed at the heart of an agency when he was a teenager. His formatting changes when he meets Shannon who is the daughter of the senator he just killed, but in self defense. Both are attracted to each other, but they have no confidence in anyone and the naive Shannon, however an investigative journalist, comes to discover a brutal world and enemies she had never envisaged around of her, while Noah seeks to protect himself and all those he cares about.

Shannon was trying to find out who killed her father, she was a reporter for her blog. Noah the hacker had been beaten by her father and then her father was killed. The rest of the dregs were leaving when Shannon caught up with them. Noah showed her the truth about her father but she couldn’t write about it. A gang kidnapped her and sold her but Noah bought her, then Hughes became the invisible man and took Shannon. Her mother was a breeder and a geneticist scientist she was going to make her daughter a breeder to make more super soldiers. The dregs saved her and another kid and left, Noah and Shannon fell in love. Another great book by Leslie can’t wait for the next book!

I love this series. The writer is great. She pulls you in makes you feel the characters, the emotion. I love the bonds between the dregs. This is unveiling of family secrets, of learning to trust. Of strength, cunning, of unity and being a great person inside and out. The love flows strong between the dregs and their mates. This is a must read. I recommend you read them in order as they make reference to past characters and they show up in the book. It can be read as a stand alone but is better in order. I recommend this author to all. Well worth the read.

Though this was my first read by Leslie Georgeson is definitely won't be my last! I can't wait to read more about the marvelous dregs and their significant others as well as to see the monsters that created them brought to justice.
Ms. Georgeson created a world so intriguing and so intense it will literally keep you glued to your chair turning pages until you come to the end of this book and then leave you wanting more.

I recommend that you read all the books in order just so that you get a general idea of what the series is about. Although it's not necessary I do think it would make more sense to read them all in order. That being said. I really enjoyed this book. Every book is great on its own but this book is really really good and I think probably my favorite so far. I can't wait for more.

I loved this series of books… I loved the guys of course, drool worthy imaginary yum-Yums. I really don’t know who was my favorite character personality but all books are well worth the read…
I enjoyed the origina lity of the Dregs and the story behind their training and was furious with the abuses they endured.
I had a hard time putting each of the stories down I spent most of the week on many short sleep nights… but well worth it.

The Hacker is the sixth book in The Dregs series. This is Noah and Shannon's story.

The characters are well developed, strong, and intelligent. The storyline is well written and continues the story of the Dregs and their mates. There is danger, suspense, intrigue, and romance.

I am looking forward to reading the next books in this series.

This one especially spoke to me ~ I raced through it ~ I’m a sucker for hacker stories ~ I find them incredibly fascinating and then the journalist (reminds me of me 30 years ago! Seeking the truth in all matters . . . . ) Shannon is the perfect ~ and I do mean *PERFECT* (!) foil for Noah. But the END!!!! I NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS SAW THIS END COMING!!!!! WOW! I’m STILL gasping!!!

The Hacker

Noah was beaten severely by Collins one of the shareholders in the Company. Logan and Nishi came to help him. Shannon, Collins daughter starts to investigate what happened to her father. She tracks him down and the sparks fly between them, but there is distrust on both sides.

We met our main gal, in name alone, in the previous book. It was neat how their journeys developed and how the plot wrapped around The Company. I liked their connection and chemistry!
