The second poetry collection from artist and author Madison Cowles Serna, Innerworld comprises dreams, grief, trauma, and hope. In an open battle with fear, anger, and existential dread, the author speaks to the universe and directly to perpetrators of harm.
Short but beautiful book of poetry. Madison Cowles Serna’s poems are emotional & genuine, touching on a variety of topics and experiences. Some include related artwork, which were just as fantastic. Definitely recommend.
I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway in its kindle edition.
I don't read too much poetry, so I might not be the best for commentary on that part. I found her poems about her relationship with her partner and with her family to be very powerful. I immediately understood the stories they were telling there.
Also, her illustrations were very well done but incredibly disturbing as they were about their abusive relationship with their partner and feeling like a stranger to themself. I also really liked that poem. I feel the same way about myself. Like, what happened?
