Resisting Mr. Granville: A Forbidden Romance

Rate this book
I found love where I wasn't supposed to find it...

The night I met Mr. Granville, he was slipping out of my mother’s bedroom.
She was passed out drunk and I was on my own, but that was nothing new. It wasn’t even the first time one of her boyfriends looked at me for a little too long—just the first time I felt anything like interest in return.

My mother and I had never been close, but I knew I had to pretend not to notice his hot gaze lingering on me when he was supposed to be there to see her, had to resist the temptation to lap up all the attention he offered me.
Until the one night I didn’t.

After they broke up, I thought I’d never see Milo Granville again.
But my less-than-impressive grade in chemistry had me striking a deal with his brilliant son: he would help me bring up my grade, and I would pretend to be his girlfriend so he could get the attention of the girl he actually liked.

Pretending to date the youngest Granville has me spending a lot of time with the Granville men, and while he loves having me around again, seeing me with his son is not something Mr. Granville enjoys.
He seems determined to remind me of the night that changed everything between us…
As if I could ever forget.

Milo is devilishly handsome and too commanding for his own good, but I have to resist the attraction raging between us.
Too bad Mr. Granville is just as intent on tempting me at every turn.

Resisting Mr. Granville is a full-length standalone forbidden romance. It is not a dark romance, though it does contain some dark and sensitive subject matter. Refer to the author's note in the beginning of the book for additional details.

I know some people are thirsty for juicy
spoilers for this messy book so like a good law-abiding little citizen (that I am) and a very generous soul (at that) I've decided to do my civic duty today. Iconic, I know. 🥰

Unless you're a desperate nosey little rat that craves to be spoiled rotten, stay the fuck away. I promise your mental health is more important than this review.

Seriously. I'm not kidding. I'm not about retell the whole plot, but I'll be spoiling the storyline/main conflict epically below. Take into account that the whole plot revolves around sex so I hope you're a good little citizen as well and you're properly intrigued now. 🥰

I also include some controversial theories of mine that I came up with while reading this book so feel free to respectfully disagree with them if you so desire. I'm pretty sure I got it right, but one can never be too cocky. 😌

BEFORE I PROCEED LET ME TAKE THIS PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO SCREAM INTO THE UNIVERSE: pls my dear miss sam, am i asking for too much? write them consistently possessive. at least give me that, sis😩

HERE WE GO

what events lead to the infamous sex scene where the heroine (Kennedy) asks Milo's (H) son (OM; Jonathan) to fuck her?

So listen to me, kids. The night this happens, our heroine Kennedy is supposed to lose her v-card to our hero, Milo, who already has a hotel room booked for deflowering purposes.

But twists of fate be dammed, suddenly the heroine receives a phone call from her mom asking her to pay her an urgent visit. Our heroine arrives to her mom's place and *surprise-surprise* there she finds not only her drug addict bitch of a mom but also her mommy's slimy creep of a boyfriend who has some very questionable intentions in mind: beating, sexual assault (uk the drill).

Kennedy manages to lock herself in a room and calls Milo's younger son Jet since Milo isn't answering her calls. She pleads with Jet to let the hero know that she's in danger and needs him to come save her asap: the door to the room where she's currently hiding might crack open under the blows of the sick fuck that is her dear mom's boyfriend at any moment.😩 This is how the chapter ends.

The next chapter is written from Jonathan's pov. Apparently, Milo is unavailable so like a good boi Jonathan comes to save the day. Kennedy tells him that she was not raped and that he got there in time (even tho when Jonathan found her her panties were ripped and the guy's fly was open). But Kennedy denies having been raped (I'll get back to this point).

That night, after everything that has transpired, she finds herself in a bad place and she asks Milo (who just learned what happened and hates himself for not being there for her she clearly needed him) to take her virginity. Kennedy insists that she needs to have sex with someone of her own choosing... and it has to be rough too. 🌚

Milo thinks that it's not healthy for her to have sex in such a fragile state of mind and he doesn't want to take advantage— which is totally valid, btw. He is fully prepared to make it up to her later tho (read: sex her up any other day), and just wants to comfort her nonsexually for now. She keeps insisting, he keeps refusing.

Kennedy tells Milo that since she really NEEDS to have sex right now, he gotta choose between 2 options: it's gonna be either him or someone else. She gives Milo multiple chances to change his mind before she turns around and goes straight to Jonathan's bedroom. Her saviour waits for her with his arms wide open. 💀💀💀

Jonathan pulls her into his room, agreeing (eagerly) to give her what she desperately craves — a healing session of rough, trauma-bonding sex (🤡🤡🤡).

Here comes the moment when I start having serious misunderstandings with the hero.

Milo is purportedly heartbroken over her decision and whispers in a dramatic voice "don't do this😭" while giving Kennedy his best puppy eyes look, but takes no proactive measures to actually stop her. The scene was kinda sad and hilarious at the same time. Till the last moment the girl expects him to give in, change his mind and not allow his son to fuck her.

So our little martyr Milo knows full well that his own son and his woman are gonna fuck IN HIS HOUSE right about now with only the thin walls separating him from them getting it on. 🤔 If he thought that Kennedy having sex that day would be a bad decision and he refused to do it for that reason, how does it make sense that he lets his son fuck her?

Putting my personal problem with lack of possessiveness aside, it simply didn't make sense. If Milo didn't think she was in the right mind to make this decision he should have found a way to stop it. It feels like Milo just washed his hands of the situation because he didn't feel comfortable fucking her that day. 100% beta energy.

I hate how inconsistent the hero was throughout the book: possessive one minute and wishy-washy the other. Saying one thing doing the other. Dominant one second and pretty passive the next.

That's precisely why I think Sam was more concerned with making her novel 'sensational' rather than writing a well thought-out and good quality story.

Very often, the hero's actions didn't fit the picture the author was trying to paint of him at all (dominant older alpha man). It seems like Milo's actions were more often dictated by the plot purposes/needs that Sam had laid out than actually driven by Milo's personal motives. While Milo's behavior didn't make much sense given his characterisation, it was suspiciously convenient and accomodating to the storyline (adding the OM drama to the mix, sharing). That's why many readers found it hard to connect with Milo. Who wants a hero who is neither fish, flesh, nor fowl. 💀

Sam also made Jonathan sound like her "normal", easily recognisable type of hero and added him to the mix in order to confuse her old readers. I just feel it in my gut, Sam wants to be known as Miss Unpredictable. 😌

Some weird strive for sensationalism at the expense of common sense. I don't necessarily need a book to be realistic, but I surely need it to be BELIEVABLE.

Can the scene between Kennedy and Jonathan be considered cheating? A deliberate betrayal?

Depends on a reader's perception ofc. I'll be only speaking on my behalf.

Yes. When it comes to Jonathan.
Certainly no. When it comes to Kennedy. Still the whole thing is very ambiguous.

— Firstly, let's not forget that Milo COULD STOP THE DEBAUCHERY. It unfolds right in front of his bloody eyes/under his bloody nose. He choses not to like an inconsistent, useless, egoistical fucker of a cuckold that he was the whole time (now go cry about it)

— Jonathan definitely betrayed his father in a sense that he is aware that Milo 'loves' this girl. At some point he also assumed that Milo and Kennedy had already had sex. Later on he justifies sexing Kennedy up to his dad by saying that he did it for Kennedy's benefit, 'out of respect for her wishes and needs,🤡 in contrast to his egoistical father'. Manipulative little shit. 🤣 He had so much fun trauma-bonding this sad, confused and frightened girl. 🤡

All these excuses and gaslighting shite about "catering selflessly to the heroine's needs' that he pulls on his naive loser of a father are funny because I'm 150% positive that Jonathan just wanted to fuck her and he saw her vulnerable state of mind as a perfect opportunity.

More so, there are quite a few scenes that make me convinced that Jonathan is super attracted to Kennedy... or even in love with her. I guess the fact that he didn't wanna ruin the relationship with his father completely and knew that Kennedy loves his dad left him no other option but to seize any sliver of opportunity to fuck her without causing too much trouble so he took and ran with it, my psycho king.

Cunning boi: he fucks his dad's girl and also manages to turn the whole situation around and make his father sound like a guilty party. Relationship with Kennedy? Solidified. Relationship with his dad? Not ruined. His image? Remains immaculate. 😍🤩🥰

— In regard to the heroine, it's a bit more tricky. After fucking Milo's son, she feels horribly depressed.
Milo will never be able to look at me again.
He won’t touch me or kiss me or hold me.
He may never speak to me again.
I let his son fuck me last night. He’ll probably want me to leave and never come back.
What have I done?

She regrets it. But she also kinda does not. She's a mess.

Here comes my subjective view (based on the text, obv) on what actually took place the night of her assault.

Bare in mind it's my personal take, I know that many reviewers sleep tight safe in the knowledge Kennedy WASN'T raped by her mom's creep of boyfriend. They got a reason to believe so since Kennedy repeats multiple times that she lost her v-card to the hero's son and that she wasn't raped. But it's not as transparent as it might seem at first glance.

It's heavily (implied) hinted in the text that Kennedy lied about NOT being raped. Firstly, take into account that she had this idea in her mind that being raped would make her "less" desirable in Milo's eyes (mentioned multiple times).

Even tho she told Jonathan that he arrived "IN TIME", Jonathan didn't believe her. And then much later on she explains her reasoning for having sex with Jonathan to Milo, and Milo comes to the conclusion that his son was actually right in doubting her words. He arrived too late.

Look at these quotes:
“Your panties are ripped. Did he…?”
She shakes her head. “You got here in time.”

(Jonathan's pov)
“Maybe she thinks we’ll look at her differently. Maybe she just can’t bring herself to admit it. I don’t know. But I don’t believe I got there in time, and I sure didn’t see a condom wrapper anywhere when I entered that bedroom. She wouldn’t let me take her to the hospital..” (Jonathan's pov)
“But it had to be last night. When I looked back on the night I lost—lost it, I had to… it had to be someone I chose, even if it was the wrong person.”
MyMy heart cracks in half. I grab her and pull her in, Jonathan’s theories echoing in my head.
He’s right.
He didn’t get there in time.I feel a stinging behind my eyes, but ignore it until it dissipates.
(Milo's pov)

And in another convo with his son they both referred to her traumatic experience as "after actually being raped".

All of this combined, I am actually sure she was raped that night. 😭 She had some weird idea that Milo wouldn't want her 'sullied', that he'd think she's dirty now etc etc.

Also when I read the sex scene between Jonathan and Kennedy, the way it was described didn't sound like she was a virgin in the technical sense of the word. Like... Jonathan was pounding her pussy like a madman and she, a virgin, took it like a champion? I don't get it. 🌚🌚 It never crossed Jonathan's mind either, he actually leaned about her inexperience from his gossip girl daddy and was very surprised.

It was definitely the author's intention to leave things ambiguous, to have us wonder whether or not she was raped because the scene kinda happened off page. We saw a small part of it only from Jonathan's pov, but never from hers (her pov ended when she called Jet to ask for help). That leaves space for different interpretations.

Take from it what you want, you can trust either my judgement or other readers.. or read and find out for yourself:)

Was Milo possessive? Sharing?

HE WAS INCONSISTENT. 🤡🤡🤡

In his thoughts, Milo was actually super bitter and heartbroken that Kennedy had slept with his son. It's mentioned several times (he tells Kennedy he's fine with her decision btw, and he doesn't blame her or gets angry) that his stomach "twists" and 'rolls" at the idea of Kennedy and Jonathan fucking. He feels "sick" while discussing it with Jonathan (he's mostly playing it cool tho).

But guess what??

Yesss, after all that anguish and agony Milo purportedly suffered from, Sam Mariano said "eat shit, bitches" and wrote a sharing scene between Milo, Jonathan and Kennedy.

It happens the very next day after the fun night when Jonathan fucks/heals Kennedy with his magical cock/does whatever it is that he does. 🤡🤡
I want to tell him (Jonathan) to stop because his dad is right here, but I don’t want to draw attention to it. I also want to know how he’s making my pussy throb by literally just squeezing my thigh.
I don’t know what to do.
...
Maybe he feels my anxiety, or maybe he’s noticing I’m starting to breathe a little harder, but Milo looks over at me and his gaze drops right to Jonathan’s hand wrapped around my inner thigh.
I open my mouth to explain, but Jonathan leans over and grabs my mouth before I can utter a word.
...
My heart hammers because Milo is sitting forward, unsure what’s happening, if he needs to intervene. My stomach flutters like crazy. I don’t know what to do.
“Sh,” Jonathan says, nuzzling my jaw and sliding his hand up under my shirt.
“What are you doing?” I whisper, my voice a little tremulous as he grabs my tit.
“Showing you off.” His gaze flickers past me to Milo. “Isn’t she fucking beautiful when she starts getting turned on? The way she breathes, the way her tits move. I want to see them. Don’t you?”
...
I look helplessly to Milo. He’s frowning, but not glowering. He’s not mad, just as unsure as I am what his son is doing.
He’s not mad at me, though, and he doesn’t look hurt. I was afraid he would be.
Milo’s gaze drops to my exposed tits and the interest in his hot blue eyes sets my blood on fire. He enjoys looking at me, even if Jonathan is touching me and making my body respond to him.

I think everyone besides Jonathan the psycho was super confused. HE PLAYED HIS DAD AND HIS DAD'S LIL GIRLFRIEND ALL OVER AGAIN PRETENDING IT'S JUST SEX THERAPY. THE GUY WAS KILLING ME. 🤣🤣 He licks her pussy right in front of his dad too, lmfao. Like... have some decorum. 😭

The funniest shit ever: a few dozens of pages later, Milo starts acting super possessive all of a sudden (he believes she has recovered enough for him to show his true colours or whatever lol), and tells Kennedy he's not gonna share or lose her to his son. He's gonna be the only one who fucks her now.

Ehhh isn't it kinda too late for that already, dude? 🤡

❥ Based on Jonathan's behaviour, Milo actually believes that his son has a crush on Kennedy; and in this case I agree with him. Jonathan acts like a (psycho) boy in love. On top of hinting every once in a while that he still wants to sex Kennedy up, he's super protective and affectionate with her (in his own super peculiar way).

There's definitely a lot of affectionate and intimate energy between those two despite what they say about not having any "romantic feelings" towards each other. Stumbling upon innuendoes that prove otherwise scattered around the text was fun. 🤡

Actually, Kennedy had a much stronger connection and chemistry with Jonathan. She thinks she loves and wants Milo because of her daddy issues. No one can convince me otherwise. 🌚🤡 She is drawn to much younger and more charismatic Jonathan who gives her the thrill of danger and toxicity. I don't blame her. 🤡

It'd totally make sense if Sam turned this book into a ménage book. Coz there's something in the air when Jonathan and Kennedy are in the same room. 💀Something suspiciously close to them wishing they could keep fucking each other, lmfao. 💀

Milo should keep letting kids have some fun. 🤡😌

All the characters are kinda fucked in the head (the most normal of them killed Kennedy's rapist as a wedding gift to her sjsjsjsjsj). So I can easily envision both Milo and Jonathan getting it on with Kennedy later on in the future.

I don't care what anyone says, I'm convinced that Jonathan's obsessed with Kennedy. 🤭 In the last chapter when they dance he says that he had sex with someone while hearing the song that they are dancing to and it reminds him of Kennedy a lot (🌚). Imagine telling this to your dad's wife on their wedding day. 💀 It's the audacity that did it for me. 💀💀

❥ Sam was on crack while writing this book.

Many of you won't like it unless you're a 100% Sam Mariano's loyal hoe. I already explained why I think it is a 100% sensationalist book that's meant to provoke interest at the expense of logic, quality and good characterisation.

I wish this author was more adventurous when it came to the actual plot and nonsexual content. This book gives off cheap sex scandal vibes. Sorry (not really).

REVIEW

I think there's a mistake in the title. Resisting Mr. Cuckold sounds way more accurate. 😍😋😍

❥ there's an unspoken rule in the genre that says that the other man shall never, under no circumstances, surpass the hero in looks, personality and any other capacity that matters. Miss Mariano broke it by turning Milo into a wishy-washy little piggy.

Jonathan, share some of your personality with Milo, be a good son.😍

❥I'm not sure whether my dear Miss Mariano is being adventurously experimental or she just loves going for the shock value. I think it's a bit of both.

I'm left unconvinced tho. Whenever authors write about somewhat unconventional relationship I expect to be rooting for it in spite of its gross/questionable nature at least.

“She’s going to burn a lot of calories tonight,” Milo remarks. “She needs the sustenance.”
“Generally speaking, men actually burn more calories than women during sex,” Jet chimes in.
“Maybe not the way she does it,” Jonathan says with an irreverent smirk.

Group marriage vibes. 😍

Honestly, nothing like a good old family dinner where father and son share a not so private (obv) joke on your sexual performance.
My new family might be crazy, but my old one was, too.
At least this family loves me.
And I love them.
Even if they are all deviants.

Those being the final lines of the book... *shaking crying laughing throwing up pissing and shitting myself*

I have to reflect on my rating. I'm not sure whether me being more bothered by the fact that Milo's son's cock has been inside his woman's pussy than Milo sits right with me. Xd. Especially when he could have easily prevented it from ever happening by not being an indecisive pussy.

NOT Resisting Mr. Granville should be the title because try resisting that hotty 🤷‍♀️ Not gonna happen!!

I had to step away and think on my rating, and I'm still honestly undecided, this one was just a wee bit too messy for me, she was all over the place which showcased her age, and Milo being the only adult here didn't really act that much better. There's no denying the somewhat chemistry they had, though with the push and pull throughout the first half made me wonder if that was going to be enough for a stronger connection.

Because who does that!! If I didn't connect with her before there was no chance in hell I was going to connect with her now.

The son was everything I was hoping Milo would be I had to read all the bits with him in it. Johnathon for me stole the show. He’s the one I need/want more of. #TeamJohnathon

So sadly this book just didn't do it for me, others loved it. so this might be a simple case of it's me and not the book..

That was an experience

I am a huuuuge Sam fan. She could write a grocery list, and you’ll see me standing in line, waiting to read it. She gives me the angst I love, the type of compelling writing/story I need, and all the 🔥 my poor little kindle can take.

And boy does she deliver in this one 😅.

This book had so much 🔥 in it that she put er0t!ca authors to shame! Jeeezus Sam… please keep doing what you’re doing 💁🏻‍♀️💅. I’m here for it 👏🏻.

Let me get to the plot:

Kennedy (18) was inappropriate with Milo when he was her mom’s boyfriend (they’re no longer together). He also happens to be her friend Jet’s dad, a friend she goes to so she can study with because he’s very smart. Jet likes a girl and needs Kennedy to pretend to be with him so that the girl can get jealous and maybe give him the time of day he needs. Being the good friend that she is, she agrees.

And well, it wouldn’t be a BAD thing if Milo just *happen* to be home when she’s studying with Jet 👀.

At home, Kennedy’s mother is HORRIBLE! She has a new, nasty boyfriend, so she uses any excuse to get out of that toxic house.

Luckily, the Granvilles are happy to have Kennedy seek shelter with them.

ALL of them 😅😬.

What I liked/loved: spoilers ahead
Before I begin my list, keep in mind that I almost felt like there were TWO heroes in this book. We have Milo, the father/protector/good guy and Jonathan, the son/a$$hole vibes I need in my life/manhoooar. Obviously, Milo is the hero, but I was sideeyeing Jonathan a lot 😬. With that being said, let me continue lol

—the tension 🔥. I swear. This HAS to be the ST€AM!EST SM book I’ve ever read. Not just because of all the smeeex, but the tension 🥵. Good LAWD. There’s so much tension😅. Within a few percentages in, we get a flashback scene of Milo being the good daddy that he is, eating his breakfast (Kennedy👀). Then we get all the delicious close calls when Kennedy’s visiting Jet but Milo finds a way to sneak in to where she’s at 😅. Even public places couldn’t hold daddy Milo back 💅. This man was confident, alpha, and smeeexy asf (until *the* scene happens about midway through. Understandably, things change…). So much making out and kissing happens 😉. They sure brought the art form of Dr¥ #ump!ng back 🥵. I was rooting for daddy Milo the whole time. Tension galore 💦 and then…

—Jonathan enters the scene 👀😬. There’s something so captivating, so enthralling about the confidence Jonathan exudes, that I found myself confused, just like poor Kennedy 🫣. Girl. I. Get. It 😅. He’s sure of himself and he’s not stooopid. Kennedy tries to deny anything’s happening with Milo. But.. nah ah ah… how you gonna try to play the player Kennedy? Jonathan KNOWS 👀. The scene after she finishes the number 6 next to the 9 with Milo was… um… unexpected because Jonathan’s there waiting for her to go back to her room…
And he uses his body, hands, and fingers to prove Kennedy’s lying…👀
And, well, um… I suddenly had a respect for Jonathan because…
He reminds me of so many of my favorite SM characters 😅
And he is 🥵🔥.
Jeeezus. I had to pray to all the gods because I was looking at another man… the son… when I should be thinking of the father (there’s nothing holy in this sentence🫣).

The tension with Jonathan escalates as we read 👀. Even in the last pages of the book, there’s STILL some unspoken elephant in the room when it comes to Kennedy and Jonathan, and it’s on the 🔥 side

—the 🔥scenes. I need an ocean to put out the flames in this book. Even the sex scenes with Jonathan were 🥵🔥. Obviously, we see more with Milo since he’s the H from beginning to end, but the ones we get with Jonathan were Pearl clutching

—the banter/double entendres. Um… I was giggling at some of it and side eying others, *especially* when it came to Jonathan making things *sexual* 🫣😅. He has NO shame 💅🤡 but… I wasn’t mad at it 😬

—Jonathan’s audacity 😮‍💨. This man has nooo shame 🤡. If he wasn’t a hoar or have commitment issues, I would’ve rooted for him more lol. Buuuut… I will say… he knows how to fulfill Kennedy’s needs… so 💁🏻‍♀️

—now I need to mention Jet. Jet was always a quiet character in the book. It always *seemed* like he didn’t know what was going on… but… he KNOWS too… and, well, he’s smart in his actions.
If I ever need a wedding gift, I’m gonna make sure to call Jet up so he can fulfill it 💅💅💅. My respect to Jet is deep. Good job 😮‍💨

—the compelling writing/angst. Agh. Reading SM means I’m going to get all the emotional turmoil the MCs experienced, in this case more in Kennedy’s POV but we get a ton of Milo’s as well. I don’t even have to ask myself questions because they normally get answered as we read… normally lol… or at least, the MCs ask the same things I’m asking. Kennedy goes through trauma, and I felt everything she felt. A great writer will give me all the visceral feelings the characters feel, and Sam does this 🤌🏻

—the comeuppance 🤧😮‍💨. IYKYK 😉💅

—the d!rt¥ talk. I love me some good praise k, but this had some d€gradat!on k I wasn’t mad at 👀 and this was on top of the normal 🥵🔥💦 talk going on 😮‍💨. Yup. It was good 🤌🏻

—how she gets rescued ❤️ Jonathan FTW🥹 (kind of)

—how close Kennedy is to the men 🤡 all three of them 😅. She had a unique relationship with each one

—sharing is caring 😅. The sharing scene was 🥵🔥. I audibly gasped when it was happening. Like Kennedy, I couldn’t believe it either 👀. The way Jonathan commanded that scene 😮‍💨🤌🏻 jeeezus 💦. Can’t say Jonathan doesn’t like to eat his breakfast, just like this father 🤡🔥🥵

Please don’t judge me on my love for Jonathan 🤡 it’s sick. I know. But I’m not turning Milo away either 💅

What I needed more of: spoilers
—the way the book ended made it feel like an HFN/open-ended kind of ending. Although Kennedy’s married to Milo, she still has *some* type of *something* towards Jonathan. I found myself crying too 🫣. Why? Um… because what if Jonathan needed to be the H? What if he was THE ONE for her? Sigh. But then I remember he’s a hoooar and I change my mind 😅🤣. He clearly had smeeex with Ow after Kennedy (before the wedding) because he remembers Kennedy when he hears a Taylor Swift song 😒. Not me over here getting jealous of the OM with OW 🤡

—inconsistency in the JPness. In the middle of the book, Kennedy experiences trauma. Instead of Milo stepping up and taking care of her the way SHE needs to be taken care of (versus what HE thought she needed), Jonathan steps up and does what Kennedy needs 😬. Sigh. Milo. Wtf? I get it. I *know* why he didn’t. She just experienced SA and she’s trying to get him to erase her experience by giving her a new one. But… denying her causes her to turn to Milo’s son… and well, at this point, I was already feeling a certain way towards Jonathan anyway 😅. But this was my face when it was happening 👀😳😱😱😱😱😱😱😱. I couldn’t not look… it was 🔥… but I was left feeling confused since I *know* I’m supposed to be rooting for Milo… but Jonathan takes over and… well… 🥵👀💦. I’m horrible. I know. My thoughts are sinning. Sigh 🤷🏻‍♀️. I understood Milo’s reaction. He’s the mature adult here… but still 😅

—the SA scene needed to not be so ambiguous. It becomes apparent that it actually happened, as much as I wished it hadn’t, but I kept trying to see if maybe my eyes were deceiving me 😩.

Overall, I enjoyed this crazy ride. It’s unlike any book I’ve ever read 🤷🏻‍♀️. Plus. It’s Sam’s book ❤️

I found love where I wasn't supposed to find it...”

Well...that wasn't at all what I was expecting. And I'm not sure if I mean that in a good way.

The blurb to this book is what hooked me. A forbidden age gap romance with a man who not only happens to be your mom's ex, but also your friend's father? Yes, please and thank you. I have never jumped on a book more quick. Heck, I'm pretty sure I left skid marks behind in my rush to get to it. But that's not what this book was. Now how the heck do I review this without spoiling it? I'm going to do my damn best here.

First of all, I sat on my rating for days after finishing it. Did I like it? Yes. Did I love it? No. So here we sit with a middle of the road 3 star "I liked it but I won't think of it again" rating. So let's digest it.

The reason I love the forbidden trope is the feeling it gives. I love the tension of the 'we want to but we can't. That burn. The anticipation. The pit in your stomach feel when they finally give into the inevitable. However, this book didn't have it. And the forbidden element of the romance had nothing to do with the age gap or the father thing. But I won't spoil that for you. All I will say, is I'm still not sure how I feel about it. It reminded me of Cradence...but also didn't feel right...or complete. Not story complete, but romance complete.

The romance between Milo and Kennedy was inevitable. Their chemistry instant, but also a slow burn. Milo wants her the minute he lays eyes on her. The fact that her mother is a total and complete piece of sh*t leaves you with no guilt about their "forbidden" relationship. The forbidden dynamic came completely out of left field, and while I didn't dislike it, I didn't love it either. It felt almost love triangle-y...and that's not ultimately my jam. I felt a bit let down with the end and desperately hoping we get a book for a certain someone next. But I digress.

I think ultimately my issue is that what I thought I was getting was not what I got. I enjoyed it still, but it just didn't fully hit the spot. Especially since I was going in with a set expectation from the blurb. Would I recommend it? Yes. It was still an enjoyable read that was a bit on the tamer side than what I'm used to from Mariano but still with a dose of an edgy grit.

So much to wrap my head around with this one.

First off this is pretty different from anything I’ve ever read by Sam before but that’s not a bad thing. I very much enjoyed … well pretty much every part of this.

I mean most especially Milo, god he’s the perfect older man. Protective, dominating, romantic but also incredibly sweet natured and caring. He was just so fucking lovely.

I commented early on that this reminded me a little bit of Credence by PD and I hoped this didn’t end like that one did, because I’m always gonna root for the older man. I think I’m just hard wired to prefer age gaps, no doubt daddy issues in there somewhere.

I imagine what happened would put a lot of people off and I’m kinda surprised I didn’t mind. I just think that it was handled so well that I was lulled into blind acceptance.

I kinda didn’t understand Kennedy’s crazy mother and her reasoning for doing or being the way she is. I suppose I don’t have to, no doubt she’s just a raging bitch, POS of a mother.

I didn’t understand Jonathan’s reasoning at first, but the more he explained himself to Milo the more it all became clear. I would’ve totally sided with Milo every step of the way (perhaps because we’re the same generation) and we both would’ve been wrong. Maybe.

The steam was absolute perfection, this obviously goes back to Milo’s greatness. I could probably gush about this man forever.

And that ending with Jet’s present? Yeah I smiled throughout that entire thing. Kinda hoping Jet gets a book of his own where he carries on. IYKYK!!

But really I didn’t want to see this end, I could’ve hung out with the Granvilles for the foreseeable future and never want for anything.

Well. That was an experience. I can’t say I loved it. I can’t say I hated it. I thought I was gonna DNF several times. I give her props for keeping me guessing til the end. This was a very compelling read for me, even when I was ready to throw my phone. Just when I started routing for one character she’d add new info that made me route for the other…. It was crazy town.

I’m gonna digest and come back to review more thoroughly.

What a book! The one thing I will ALWAYS respect about Sam Mariano is her willingness to push boundaries and tell stories that few other Dark Romances authors would tell. At least not in a way that has me so riveted and completely hooked on every word. She is able to bring me in close and keep me there for the whole gruesome affair.

This story did not go where I thought it would based on the beginning of this romance. It went to some dark place but also some extremely sweet and loving places that I did not expect.

I was left feeling a little incomplete at the end though, and I needed more HEA or a look further into the future to believe this couple was gong to make it. But that's just me. When characters have to go through what they do... I need more.

I was also very interested in what comes of our hero's sons. I hope we haven't seen the last of them.

I’m actually pretty sad writing this review. I have loved pretty much all of Sam Mariano’s books, but this is just a no for me. Her hero was not at all the possessive hero I’m used to from her. The reason for being cool with sharing her was honestly so stupid and unnecessary. That plot line was just for the steamy forbidden aspect of it all. At times it did give me credence vibes… which is another story that isn’t necessarily for me.

I went into this with really high hopes but in the end it’s just not the story I was expecting, but for me not in a positive way unfortunately.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: taboo: mom’s boyfriend
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

Took me a little bit to get into it, but ended up enjoying it overall. Ironically, it was not the taboo aspect of this story that I had a hard time with, but rather that multiple times in the story, it was not the hero that came across as best for the heroine. And it wasn't just Milo's poor judgement based on his emotions for her, it was that his son 1) understood her emotional and physical needs better 2) came across as more bad ass 3) had hotter smexy with her. With that being said, it was still a solid 4 stars for me. I enjoyed Kennedy. I felt empathy for her situation, how practical she was, and how she wasn't afraid to say what she needed. I did understand Milo's thought process for his choices and the reasons why, but it still made him a little too "less" for me and a "mature" one in the relationship. Loved the twist at the end and I really hope both of the boys will get their own stories.

Impressions…

3.5 stars

I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked Kennedy and her quiet sweet strength, and the first part is the book when she and Milo were exploring their attraction, the fake relationship with son Jet, and the suspicious older son Jonathan. Eventually I liked the dynamic they are shared in the untraditional made family.

It was the middle of the story when things shifted for me. I found the twist with Jonathan and the father intriguing. But then I thought what’s taking Milo, the father and Kennedy’s preferred love interest, so long to lay it on her. They loved each other. He can’t be that altruist and reticent. And the trouble for me came when I started liking more and finding more interesting Jonathan, the son, than the quasi dominant, quasi cinnamon roll Milo. I can appreciate how generous he was in taking care of Kennedy and her emotional needs even at his expense, but come on! He took too long and thus the book felt long losing momentum in not arriving to the point.

Classic angst from the author which kept me on edge and some hot tension, foreplay, and eventual steam. I liked the characters. Realistic acknowledgment of the differences in age and what that entails for the couple. Still and more often, the story seemed to falter for me and Milo wasn’t targeted enough. Still, enjoyable and different. I overall liked it.

Sam Marino is a hit or a miss author for me. This was a miss by a mile. Very boring. This book actually made me realize I that don’t have a boring shelf here on Goodreads. If you want some brother/family/age-gap/reverse harem action read the Takeover trilogy by Lana Grayson. It's darker and deeper than this. Resisting Mr. G is the Kids-Bop version of Takeover.

I get that Sam mentioned she wrote this not like her typical romance novels because she wasn't feeling up to writing something dark. However, I want to say something here, just because a story isn't dark doesn't mean a writer still can't make the story interesting.

Oh Sam Mariano- there's truly no one who writes stories that are so psychologically complicated, messy, and unconventional. Given the forbidden and deliciously unsettling romantic dynamics in this story, this will certainly not be for everyone, particularly if you don't enjoy stories that operate well outside of the traditional romance architecture. But fans of some of Sam's OG stories (like me) will gobble this right up ravenously- if you like the Morelli series, in particular- because that's exactly what we want- the boldness of Sam Mariano's creative prowess. How she obliterates any archetypical conception of romance. And even so, this definitely wasn't the story I was expecting (and I was expecting Sam-level crazy!) and ends up begin forbidden in more ways than one, but that's what I love about a Sam Mariano tale- just when you settle into the dynamics, she flips them on their head all over again. I was transfixed, perplexed, enchanted, and gobsmacked. Nothing like the high of the Sam Mariano experience!

DNF @ CHAP 5, 9%

I saw that this book was being read often on the timeline but I don't know how you guys did it.

Milo is so annoying, literally there's nothing even 1% appealing about him. So much arrogance and for nothing, such a turn off.

His name is ruining my all time favourite drink in the world, ugh.

resisting mr. granville
by sam mariano
[i can't decide how many stars rn]

× super smutty & taboo
× age gap
× alpha mmc+submissive fmc
× sugar daddy vibes
× slow burn, kinda.
× dual pov

~the plot~
kennedy is a senior in highschool. she does not have a healthy home life. she often doesn't know if she's safe or when her next meal will be. she has plans to get out as soon as she graduates but needs help to pass a class. in comes jet granville, a smart boy in her grade. she shows up to his house to start tutoring and his dad answers the door [which happens to be her mom's ex & a man she has a huge crush on]

kennedy and jet decide to fake date in exchange for payment because he is convinced fake dating will catch the attention of a girl he likes.

____my thoughts____
one thing about sam is her mmc date and take care of their women. they're wealthy, have thoughtful dates, nice dinners, shopping trips, vacations.. and not just once or for groveling, just because. i love that shit.

milo and kennedy definitely had chemistry. but this shit was taboo AF & went somewhere i was not expecting. when kennedy f*cks milo's son... i- honestly have no words. SHOOK AF. she's BOLD for that one.

milo... he really took care of her & gave her a safe, stable home for the 1st time and i love him for that.

jonathan, the oldest son that f*cks kennedy lmao. ummmm, are we going to get a book for him? we got 1 pov chapter but i want moreeeee. ngl i liked him more than his daddy [mmc] sometimes 🫣

jet!!!! i thought his character was naive and sweet and i really liked the rep of someone with some kind of anti-social disorder. I don't want to spoil everything but omg the ending. his character made me want to bump this up one more star. pleaseeeee, i need a book about him too.

cons:
× kennedy is only 18 she's very immature. it was annoying because milo wasn't much better at times. they made me cringe a few times
× i loved the plot the first half but then it just disappeared??? where was the conversation about fake dating with jet? they talked about the girl he liked but the shift from fake dating to not was non existent to me & I'm confused about that.
× did I miss where she listed everyone's ages? i remember kennedy is 18, jet is around her age, jonathan is a few years older.... i wanted more details. how old is milo!?
× i feel like milo should have been more mad that his son f*cks the girl he wants
× the ending felt a bit rushed

[tw⚠️ rape (not the mmc), non con, parental abuse//neglect and abandonment, murder, death]

Just no. Too much into pornographic territory. Reached the part where both father and son and her.

It’s a solid no from me.

The girl has probably been raped by her mother’s boyfriend.

Her mother’s ex who is now the girl’s boyfriend doesn’t come and save her. The boyfriend’s son does.

He takes her home.

The girl is in a very strange shape. She wants boyfriend to sleep with her. He refuses. She goes sleeps with his son.

After that it gets worse.

If you want to read pornography. Well this is it.

The author is good. Good writing. The heroine is understandable. She’s extremely messed up.

But to read about the kind of mess occurring in her life. Sex with a father and son. That’s not ok. Not ok.

It’s not literature and fiction then.

It’s porn.

It’s a good day when Sam Mariano releases a new book. Everything falls right into place.

Resisting Mr. Granville was quite the wild ride. Was I surprised? Not in the slightest.

In this story, we follow Kennedy. A senior in high school just trying to get by. We meet Milo Granville when her mom brings him home as the new guy she is dating. Her mom is horrendous, which sets up a great scene for Milo to take notice of Kennedy. He is drawn to her, and they end up sharing an intimate moment. Not surprised in the least that her mom and Milo do not last.

Kennedy needs help with tutoring so she agrees to help out fellow classmate, Jet, by agreeing to fake date him in exchange for tutoring lessons. With Jet being Milo’s son, these lessons bring her into the Granville household. You can eat the tension up with a spoon in this steamy story. Kennedy cannot help being drawn right back to Milo…but little do we know the twisted journey that is lies ahead.

This isn’t my fave book by Sam. I didn't vibe with the herione. Her choices were very questionable. But I AM sold on Sam and I’ll read anything the woman writes. She has a unique recipe that works for me...so even if a particular thing doesn’t work, there is always something else that does. Sam doesn't back down from giving us stories that pack a punch. I love her for that.

I can not say anything else without spoiling anything. This was a solid 4 star read.

Thank you to Sam Mariano for this ARC!

Can I keep them all?

I love Milo.

I love Jonathan.

I really love Jet.

I went into this not knowing what to expect, with Sam Mariano you kinda learn to truly expect the unexpected.

This book blew me away. Nothing was what I thought and everything was just insane, a good insane.

I won’t lie, I was team Milo from the very beginning, the man is perfection. He’s everything.

Enter Jonathan, I didn’t like him until I did, I hated him until I loved him. And my heart is broken because I just want to keep him.

Now Jet, Jet was a flipping wildcard that I should have seen coming but I really, really didn’t. That boy gave me one helluva whiplash.

Kennedy wasn’t my favorite character but she was strong. Her experience realistic and valid. Her depth was incredible.

The way Sam Mariano weaves her stories is just pure art. The words wrap around you until they are in your blood. You don’t know where you begin or the story ends until you are staring at that “The End” sentence. And not because the story leaves you feeling complete, no, it’s because the stories, this story in particular breaks you into millions of tiny pieces and then puts you together in a way you didn’t anticipate or maybe even want.

This was a darn good read.

An age gap romance with no frills, these characters don’t waste words repeating over and over how forbidden their union is, we know that already!, they focus on their relationship and the many obstacles the authors (who has no mercy) throws their way. Don’t be mistaken into thinking this is all rainbow and sunshine… it’s still Sam Mariano we’re talking about, both Milo and Kennedy are unapologetic about what they want, they make it known and the reader has to take all their mess squirming at every line. That’s Ms Mariano for you and that’s what I like!

~𝑨 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒏'𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆. 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒂𝒎𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒖𝒑 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒑 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈?~

Kennedy is a young girl whose life is a series of unfortunate events, the junkie who gave her life doesn’t even know what being a mother means, the person who should protect her is the one who pushes her under the proverbial bus.

~𝑰 𝒈𝒐𝒕 𝒂 𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒕 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒎𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆~

Milo Grenville is a widower who has just found out his heart isn’t dead after all, it beats it wants things that shouldn’t ever be on his radar. One thing is certain, what Milo wants Milo gets even if it takes time and a lot of trouble.

Be ready to get very uncomfortable, Ms Mariano unmercifully writing and story telling won’t spare you pain and unease. And I, personally, wouldn’t what it any other way.

I appreciate how Sam can always shove me out of my comfort zone and I can make a home in my unease. I know her stories are never easy, conventional or even acceptable and yet while I’m in her world anything becomes okay, she has a way to pen her characters which is unique. Any other scenarios happening here I’d be screaming bloody murder, but with her I can’t help wanting more… especially when that more includes The Granville men… I’m eager to jump ✷𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢✷ on the train 😛

Why not 5 stars??? As much I liked this there was something lacking, when it came to the connection between Milo and Kennedy I wasn’t totally invested, Milo didn’t always act like a possessive borderline obsessed alpha which is what I would expect given the way he professed his love, Kennedy was all over the place but given her age and the dire circumstances she was in it was consistent.

Resisting Mr. Granville by Sam Mariano is a forbidden and taboo story and is part of the multi-author Blurred Lines series. The reading journey was rocky, angst-filled, and completely unexpected. This story may not be for everyone, it is not dark, but it is very taboo. Kennedy is 18 and just trying to survive her current life and fighting for her future. She has no support. The last man she should be attracted too is her mother’s ex-boyfriend. Milo is older, has two sons closer to Kennedy’s age and knows wanting Kennedy is not right. Will that stop him? No.

I do not want to say too much, but though this is Milo and Kennedy’s story, his sons play a role in their journey as well. Kennedy’s mother, if you can even call her that, is horrible to her daughter. With the Granville’s, Kennedy has found something she never expected. Has she finally found where she belongs? Resisting Mr. Granville by Sam Mariano was an emotional and angsty read from start to finish.

Though not my favorite book by this author, I was intrigued and well if she writes it, I will read it!

Happy reading!
