New!  From BESTSELLING author Stevie MacFarlane.

Fresh out of Mrs. Pettigrew's School for Young Ladies, Amelia Westcott and her two best friends are ready for adventure.  Suddenly a life filled with social obligations and meaningless gossip seems unappealing.  On a whim, the girls investigate the phenomena of young women heading west to marry, and Amelia is captivated by the freedom such a decision offers.

Hugh Jordon needs a wife.  The severe shortage of women in the Pacific Northwest makes advertising for a bride seem reasonable. As long as he finds a wife who is the exact opposite of his tempestuous mother, he’ll be well-satisfied. Studying the applicants, he chooses one that seems to best fit his needs, and delegates his head clerk with the critical task of sending polite rejections to the others. Unfortunately, most of them never get the letter Hugh anticipated and soon the brides descend, all expecting to marry the same man!

Amelia is horrified and realizes that the adage "marry in haste, repent at leisure" has never been more true. How could he do that to her? What sort of man was he, to propose to so many women? She simply must have their wedding annulled and return to Massachusetts at once.

Hugh has other ideas. In his opinion, the perfect place for his new bride to learn about faith, loyalty and commitment is in his home and firmly over his knee!

“Amelia: The Marriage Market Book One” is a spicy historical romance with domestic discipline themes, including the old-fashioned spanking of adult women.  If such themes disturb you, please do not buy “Amelia.”

Hated it

This is the first domestic discipline book that I a hated. She was punished for disrespect when he disrespected her and all of the other women. By not personally replying to the women he caused the problem. I do not feel that he redeemed himself he never apologized to the women for not personally replying to the correspondences. All of this could've been avoided if he was an honorable man . I don't know that I will read any of the other books in the series cause I just can't get over how bad this book was. I personally don't think she was out of line by believing that he had wrote those women . She had just met him and then they were married. I don't normally leave negative reviews but I just cannot get over the punishments in this book that were unwarranted.

For historical romances, this had much too much spanking involved. An interesting concept for the plot with al of the women arriving, but Hugh seemed to believe taking a hairbrush to a woman was his idea of a conversation.

Was interesting storyline but turned on me

Storyline was interesting, characters fun and relatable but going with the idea of him spanking her to resolve problems not acceptable, not the the extent the author let it go. bummed.

Meh...

Meh...this wasn't a great book. Okay story. I won't read anything else by this author. Also too expensive, $4.99 is WAY too much for this short uninspired book.

Abuse of women is not okay

I've never given a 1 before but I stopped reading as soon as the creepy, sadistic, supposed hero assaulted the heroine shortly after meeting her. I know some people like this type of stuff, but it's a disservice to women to believe that the love of a good woman can change arrogant cruel men. And I turn away from anything that enables that behavior.

I read this series when it first came out years ago. I decided to read this book and see how it was. There are some changes, but not the overall premise of the book. Hugh wants a wife and so he places an ad. He receives many responses, but finds one the most appealing, from Amelia. He asks his clerk to reply to the other ladies letting them know that he chose another, but Clarence decides that there are too many men in the town who would love a wife and gives the letters to them. When all sixteen ladies show up, there are some fun times. We meet Hugh's French mother and, eventually, Hugh and Amelia have their HEA. This also sets up the rest of the stories in the series.

While the plot was different with a mix-up of so many mail-order brides personally answering the call (which leads to future stories), the weakness of the main character remains disturbing. There was a definite red-flag pre-marriage that should have sent Amelia straight home. And to equate control and 'spanking' with love and caring, is so wrong on every level. However, the new cover was most attractive and luring to the reader.

Marry in haste ………
Amelia answers an advertisement for a wife ripped from a page from a woman’s journal to escape the endless male callers her father keeps sending with offers of marriage .
she soon finds out things are not to be as she expected or hoped for in a husband .
Obedience, sweetness , and a bit of punishment just to be sure .
An enjoyable story told well with sweet and not so sweet characters.

I'm a sucker for a good mail order bride story and this book fit perfectly. Amelia is full of spunk and I love the relationship with her two friends back home. Hugh is a sweet guy who knows exactly how to handle Amelia. The author did a great job painting a picture of what life was probably like in that era. Looking forward to more books in this series.

Decent story

This book could have gone a lot of different directions. The story line had the possibility of being really good but all the dam spanking- stupid and a huge buzzkill. I barely finished the book because it was so moronic. I won't be buying the next book because the author needs therapy. Maybe she's into juvenile story lines or spousal abuse. I am not.

It was a fun, quick read. Our MC is a mail order bride. Our main love interests is a gruff owner of a forestry company near Seattle. There is quite a lot of spanking and not much plot. I still enjoyed the book a lot.

Only One Bride???

Some fun poked at Mail Order Brides but an enjoyable look at it from the author, Stevie McFarlane's inventive mind. You might not agree with how Hugh, the groom, deals with his new little wife but it's effective.

I liked the story, but it was good, not great. Both MCs did some stupid things that were annoying. On the other hand, I loved the fact the author gave us some insight into the hero's parents and their story. Like Amelia, I liked his mom. His dad had let her run wild, but you know she really did have the right idea to help those ladies. Good HEA. I'll read the rest of the series.

I was given a copy of this book by the author and I'm voluntarily leaving this honest, unbiased review.

The book is quite interesting but Hugh's idea that spanking his wife is the only way to correct her is a no to me, apart from that, it's an interesting read.

easy read

Could not personally get into this story. It seemed to me like a bunch kids arguing and acting childish and not as adults. I did see the humor and all amidst it but it just wasn’t for me

MULTIPLE MISMATCHED MAIL-ORDER BRIDES

I dearly love historical and mail-order bride stories, and this one did not disappoint. Amelia Westcott was tired of her father trying to marry her off and found her own advertisement for men seeking brides in the west. She answers an ad for Mr. Hugh Jordan of Seattle, and he replies, and she accepts his offer of marriage. Hugh Jordan had many women send letters and pictures and asked his assistant, Clarence Henderson, to send letters of regret to the other women.

What happens when Clarence decides one of the mail-order brides is perfect for him, other men would love to have wives. Oh, what could go wrong? This story was entertaining, and I was laughing out loud many times at the various antics. The characters are delightful, and the dialogue is witty. Hugh and Amelia are charming together, even when he has to spank her, and the wedding night was hilarious.

When you become a mail-order bride, it requires taking a big risk, but the rewards can be great. Amelia Westcott is a Massachusetts native looking for something different than what her father intends, so she answers a matrimonial advertisement placed by Hugh Jordon in a San Francisco newspaper. After receiving an answer from Hugh, Amelia sets off for San Francisco and the final destination of Washington Territory. This book is filled with other mail-order brides, a little confusion, and a mother-in-law that is nothing like Amelia expects. This is a fun book that opens what promises to be another great series by Stevie MacFarlane.

A man wanting a wife to keep his home and give him sons, a woman wanting adventure and to be valued, a mail order marriage agreement and an assistant with a good idea that goes terribly awry - a combination that makes for a perfectly delightful, extremely humorous and highly endearing mess.
With its well formed and vastly diverse characters, its funny and steamy moments and its impressive creativity - all written with such wit and heart - this sweet historical romance made for an extremely enjoyable and highly entertaining read from start to finish.

Wonderful new series

This is a promising start to a brand new series! Stevie MacFarlane has a real knack for writing series with fantastic characters you can't help becoming emotionally attached to. Which, in turn, makes you anxiously wait for the next installment! I love the premise for this plot and it kept me turning the pages until the end. Nicely done and looking forward to book two!

This is a wonderful romantic comedy

Amelia wants to see some of the world and answers the ad that Hugh puts into the paper. An ad for a wife.
Well, she was his choice and soon afterwards she is on her way. But what about the others who responded. Well, that are coming too, of course.
Love laughter and spankings. Nothing better to liven up your day.
Thanks Ms MacFarlane for another great read.

Spanking Virgin

This is the first book I've ever read that focused exclusively on domestic discipline as its theme. I've been curious for awhile. I wasn't disappointed at all. The subject and plot were handled well and creatively. The situations causing the spankings to occur were reasonable and just. I used to be a silly young bride, too. I enjoyed reading this story and am planning to buy the next book in the series.

I love this new series The Marriage Market by Stevie MacFarlane. I usually do not like historical romances but I found Amelia to be very enjoyable and hot. Innocent bride experienced groom. A little bottom warming. Perfect. I need book 2. Kudos.

This book started out great then it became rather confusing to the point that I couldn't figure out who was the main couple! Would I read the series probably not, but I gave the first book a try.
