Despite reading this book in just a few hours I could not like it all. There was so much that did not make sense and once again like book 1, I expected a whole different story and approach.
Jace was unlikable in my eyes. From the way he would talk to Cove. The way he would treat her was just despicable for a man his age? She did nothing wrong in my eyes, she was 18 and before that she was a child. He treated her like a pariah that basically didn't belong in his family despite how much she loved Haven (Jace's little sister) and was truly there for her even when Jace NEVER was. I hated his treatment of her and even the crass things he would say in judgment.
Cove deserved better. She deserved better from her parents and from the man who treated her like shit and eventually she ended up with. She deserved to be LOVED and not treated the way she had been. You would think since Jace knew how much she craved to be cared about and needed her parents he would treat her with much more respect but instead he contributed to her pain. All he did was judge her and make her feel small.
The thing that didn't work for me was the fact that Jace was a contracted killer?? What happened to the army? It made no sense in my eyes, he couldn't have been both as you can't leave base like that without going AWOL. Did he quit his military and just become a contracted killer? It was again something that didn't need to happen, a retired military grumpy guy would have been perfect, why add in this?
Also let’s discuss the OW drama: Hope is Tony's fiancée and future mother of his child (Tony was Jace's best friend in the military and he dies saving him). Hope and Jace develop this relationship (not physical) but they become quite close and he even says he is falling in love with her and then we are just told it was only trauma bonding. Hope died after a sniper killed her and he spends the next decade trying to find that person? It was just all over the place.
OM drama: Cove ends up dating this guy name Deacon for months and she falls in love with him (this is prior to Jace/Cove getting together) but then Jace KILLS Deacon right as he and Cove are about to have sex. Why? Well Deacon was his enemy, but he never did anything to put Cove in danger and honestly, I wish we knew if he truly cared for her because he spends months NOT initiating sex and only almost gave in because Cove kept insisting. It was just confusing for me, how he was being respectful to Cove but yet was seen as a threat??
We later find out that he was hired by the same guy Jace worked for and the same guy is who killed Hope and shot Cove. He told Deacon that he needed to keep an eye on Jace and Jace was told Deacon was there to kill Cove or him etc.
I didn't believe Jace's feelings for Cove, he treated her like a toy and a dog. Then suddenly she gets shot and he LOVES her right before he was destroying her heart. I truly think Cove is so desperate to find love and be loved that she would accept it from anyone at this point.
OH don't let me mention the fact they went to a BDSM club right after he took her and it was for what?? We never got any conclusion on WHY? His enemies were there? They could have gone anywhere but why take her there? Did he frequent often? It was just a one-time thing and it never was mentioned again which was weird.
I mean no disrespect to M.Robinson but this book was not it for me. There were too many things happening at once that didn't need to be there or make sense. The story didn't need all these intricate details that made NO sense to the development of the characters. Jace was still an ass for 90% of the book, he didn't grovel, he didn't truly apologize for his treatment of her.
I just wanted a story of a much older guy ending up falling for his little sister’s best friend and what we got was anything but that.
Perfect Enemy is the second book in the Beckham Dynasty by M. Robinson. Cove and Jace’s romance can be read as a standalone. Because this is a suspense-filled romance, I’m not going to dive too deep into what this book is about, in order to avoid as many spoilers as I possibly can. Perfect Enemy is sinfully delicious! Be prepared before you dive into Jace Beckham’s story! Who am I kidding, there is no way to prepare for this man!
My Thoughts:
WHEW! Let me tell you, if you’re looking for a spicy romance with angst, suspense, and a grumpy navy retiree turned contract killer… look no further, Perfect Enemy is the read for you! And let’s not forget the age gap (20 years)! She’s 19, he’s 39! When I first saw the age gap number, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it. But given the fact that Cove has practically been on her own since she was a child, her character felt older than nineteen years old. So the maturity levels actually evened one another out.
But back to the basics! Let’s talk about Cove. This woman is tough as nails and stubborn to boot! I loved the fact that she did everything in her power to annoy the everloving hell out of Jace. Jace was the first man she ever had a crush on. She was eight years old, the first time she felt true heartbreak, and she vowed to hate her best friend’s, much older brother for the rest of her life. So you can safely assume where this is going. Cove did everything she could possibly do to get under Jace’s skin… from what she wore, to how she acted around him. Everything she did was strategically thought out.
Jace, on the other hand, was a different type of human. This man was lethal in all ways that matter. He served twenty years in the Navy protecting his country and tarnishing his soul. Now, newly retired, he has made a name for himself in the darkest and seediest places around. All in the name of seeking revenge for the lives that were lost because of him. This man’s story, inside and out, broke my heart. He refused to let himself feel safe in life. Because whenever he got to that point, shit would hit the fan, soon after. Throughout my reading, all I wanted was for this man to find his calm and actually let that calm in. I wanted that moment of settlement where he could finally take a breath. And M. Robinson delivered it all up on a silver platter.
Overall, I really enjoyed Perfect Enemy! If I had one moment that I would change, though, I’d draw out the climatic moment a little bit more. It was emotional as hell, but I wanted more from this moment. However, here lies another case of spoiled reader syndrome! I do recommend this one to all those who love age gap romances with a somewhat forced proximity story-line. Definitely read the blurb and see if this one sparks your interest!
✨Age Gap ✨Best Friends Brother ✨Scared Hero ✨Enemies to Lovers
•Dual POV •Stand-alone, but part of the Beckham Dynasty
This book was not what I was expecting, in a great way! 😍
Cove has been best friends with Haven since they were 4. Cove’s parents never cared about her growing up, so she leaned on Haven and her family. Cove always had a crush on Haven’s older brother Jace, but he was twenty years older than her. After one night of him yelling at her, she never liked him again. When she turns 18, Jace finds Cove getting herself in trouble and can’t help by try to protect her. Jace was in the military and has been fighting demons from his past and his present. But when Cove finds herself in trouble, it’s Jace who has to protect her. While protecting her, they both can’t help but reveal their feelings and give into each other. It isn’t until a turn of events forces them to confess their love for one another.
I loved this book so much. I loved the hidden elements to it and the connection between Jace & Cove. The chemistry was perfect! And the ending! I can’t wait to read Ledger & Hazel’s story next! 😍
Favorite Quotes: “Instead, I walked out there confidently knowing this part of my life was over and now I could focus on a future I didn’t think I could have. All because of my… Perfect Enemy.”
“Everything was about to change between us again, and I couldn’t have been more ready for it. He was mine. I was his. End of story.”
“I’m here to claim you, bunny.”🐰 “I wish I could say this was fun, but let’s be honest, the pleasure was all yours.”
I Started this baby last night and finished this morning! I could not put it down! An enemies to lovers/age gap story is what I crave and this one took a very unexpected turn that had me turning the pages so fast to figure out what the flip was going on! It’s emotional, angsty, and very sexy! Bunnies and Islands and Staircases oh my! I love being consumed by the worlds Monica creates and this one took me right under! I can’t wait for everyone to read it!
This series! Holy moly! I can’t even express how much I’m in love with it already and we're only on the second book. Alpha males are my kryptonite. Book 1 Tempting Enemy is the youngest sibling’s story and this one is book 2 and it’s the oldest sibling’s story Jace Beckham. I recommend reading this series. M. Robinson is an amazing author and her Alpha males, don’t disappoint.
Jace is the oldest and as soon as he turned 18 he signed up for the Navy Seal. Throughout the years of training he became one of the best in the world. His life was not easy with losing his mom and so many people he loved and were close to. He loved his family more than anything nut always kept them at arm’s length to keep them safe. He had secrets he could not tell anyone, and they were eating him alive. He was alone and he knew that it would be like that forever, because the one person that made him alive inside was off limits.
Cove Noel has been in love with her best friend’s older brother Jace since she was 8 years old. He was much older than her but he was her everything. Cove came from a rich family but they were never around and did not care for her much. If it wasn’t for the Beckham family she would be alone. After Mrs. Beckham passed away Jace changed, along with the rest of the family. He kept pushing her away and saying things that hurt her. He knew what buttons to push and he pushed them. She stayed away from him since then and rarely talk to him, until one day her whole life changed and she had to spend 3 weeks with him.
She was slowly dying inside, the more he pretended to like her, love her, be with her. She knew it was all supposed to be fake but somewhere deep down it felt like it was all true, and he actually felt everything she felt. Jace tried to stay away, he needed to keep her safe, so he would do what he knew best. Be a soldier. Could Cove break down his walls and show him what it would be like to finally be together? Would Jace risk their safety to be with the one person he can’t live without?
I cant tell you anything else and I know I didn't give you anything but this book has so many twists and turns that I don't want to say something to ruin it for anyone. So just take my word and go read. I know my jaw hit the ground and yours will too. Received this ARC for my honest review and opinion.
Give me all the age gaps and I’m a happy reader. “Perfect Enemy” is a thrilling, action packed and delicious best friend’s older brother romance that pulled me in with the history of Jace and Cove.
Cove has been crushing on her best friend’s brother for as long as she can remember. But one moment from when she was younger, she also spent that time hating him as well. Jace is 20 years older and has always been grumpy and closed off. Jace is also a former Navy SEAL and protecting is in his DNA. When Cove’s life is in danger, he does what he needs to protect her. Even if the danger is him.
The storyline goes back and forth between past and present to show how it shaped Jace and Cove. None of it was confusing and it just brought so much to the story. Jace is a classic grump with a history in the military that is truly heartbreaking. He sacrificed a lot for the country and it shows. Cove is caring and wants a happy life with people who care about her. Her parents were always missing from her life and she found peace being a part of her best friend’s family. I loved the tension between the two as they tried to resist each other even with everything going on. The added plot twist was not one that I saw coming and was such a great part of the story.
Holy secrets Batman! Who knew Jace would turn out to be so deliciously sexy & hurt in ways no one knew?! There is so so much more going on with him than I’d have ever guessed. He in no way had an easy adulthood & that shaped him into the man he was & even if I did want to punch him the face a few times I still loved his character. Just like Cove I wanted to protect & heal him.
Cove was all over the place & thrown into the deep end with Jace in ways she’d never suspected. Their story isn’t an easy one & its confusing & twisted but so worth the read! Especially that ending getting me all hyped up for the third book!
This is my first title by this author, and I wasn't actually sure what to think at the beginning.
Ironically, when things took a turn for the darker, I was a lot more interested in the relationship between Cove and Jace. Not sure what that says about me, but the darker this one got, the more I found myself enjoying it. The 2nd part of this one was a lot more fun than the 1st, I can't lie.
Can I review this without spoilers? Not really, as the part I really liked is hidden behind a big spoiler, so I will say it was fun and I did like both of the characters and I believed in their connection.
I did enjoy this overall and I recommend this title.
I really, truly wanted to love a 'Perfect Enemy'. I mean the author is a go-to favorite for the steamiest, angstiest (is that a word?) romance reads. From the 'Good 'Ol Boys' series to the 'Jameson Brothers' trilogy, I just absolutely adore M. Robinson's writing. I wish I could place her newest book in this category. Sadly, I can't and before I forget saying it, yikes!
Jace Beckham and Cove Noel had so much promise as the 'perfect' (no pun intended) hate-to-want-you romance. Jace is twenty years older than her 18 years, a complete jerk to her in every way, and her best friend Haven's older brother. I loved Cove's fierce loyalty to her friend Haven and how she handled Jace's quick temper. I really would have loved there to be a real reason why he disliked Cove instead of the ridiculous reason given. Jace, though, came across as controlling and mysterious and also annoying to no end! I wouldn't have been so bothered by these character's flaws if there had been a more flushed out story to keep me interested through their ridiculous fights. Maybe this would have been better as a novella with a real plot, something that would have been worthy of this duo. Maybe.
After reading Tempting Enemy, I couldn’t wait to read Perfect Enemy. I loved Hayes and Haven’s story and knew I’d be just as in love with Jace and Cove’s- and I was so right! From the very first page I was hooked and couldn’t put this book down. I felt so bad for Cove. She had parents who didn’t really care about her, and her only true family was with Haven and her family. So when she had this huge crush on her best friends much older brother, and tried comforting him after his mother dies, he crushed her little 8 year old heart with his cruel words. My heart hurt for her. She spent the next 10 years hating him. He spent it living in guilt and serving his country. And after losing 2 more people he really spiraled into darkness. But when Cove’s life is put in danger he’ll do anything to save her and keep her safe. This book is filled with emotional angst, and will have you holding your breath at times because you don’t know what to expect next. Jace had so much darkness and secrets, he tried fighting his feelings for how he felt about Cove, but it inevitable. They were both meant for each other. I loved this story so much and I can’t wait for Ledger’s next!
Perfect Enemyis M. Robinson second book fromBeckham Dynastyseries. This Enemies to Lovers, Age Gap, Best Friend’s Brother story follows the oldest Beckham sibling Jace and Haven Beckham'sBest FriendCove Trinity Noel through the telling of their dual POVs.
The book was jam packed when it came to following along the narrative of the storyline Monica delivered, making it no surprise that it was going to be one hell of a whirlwind adventure considering the events and situations that took place all throughout. Perfect Enemywas a never ending continuous ride, no stopping or even slowing down when it came to following through each occurrence, one after another for Jace and Cove. Yet it wasn’t and shouldn’t have been surprising, due to the many ups and downs, twists and turns and highs and lows both Jace and Cove experienced and endured which was laid out for us to see. And in detail too, seeing as Monica had us jumping back and forth between the past and present, filling in the missing pieces to the puzzle that was the story of Jace and Cove. Since they had known each other for many years, with Beckham family treating Cove as one of their one because of her close friendship with Haven. The youngest and only daughter within the Beckham household.
Jace and Cove’s journey was truly a major bumpy ride, when you took into account not only where they started to the path they ventured on to finally getting their HEA. But also the exploration within their emotions, since it led to quite an emotionally charged ride, making it known what and how the two were feeling as the story progressed. It most definitely wasn’t an easy ride, the many questions being raised courtesy of the mysteries from the secrets, lies and deceit to be had. And that was on top of the major drama that was brought forth, causing Jace and Cove to constantly butt heads going back and forth with their pushing and pulling. Yet it didn’t stop the underlining sparks from flying, ultimately paving way for some Red-Hot, Spicy steamy moments between the two.
It needs to said, the story did have me in mixed emotions. Despite knowing this is fiction, a part of the storyline had me LOL'ing and being lost and confused with how unrealistic, bizarre and illogical it was, making me question if this was honestly actually happening right now. There was just quite a bit of the plot that had me unable to believe or comprehend what Monica had me reading. Due to the situation going on from the way it transpired and was laid out for us, to the explanation stated after all was said and done, it just didn’t really make sense IMO, as it didn’t really add up, at least for me it didn’t. And yet despite it all, not once did it stop me from continuing on reading to then ultimately finish the book.
In spite of my issue, M. Robinson still came through with delivering what turned out to be an interesting read that was Jace and Cove’s storyPerfect Enemy. With the sneak peek she included at the end, safe to say she has me excited to readSinful Enemy, the next book inBeckham Dynastyseries.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
If you love alpha heroes, this book is for you. If you love sassy heroine who drives the alpha hero crazy, this book is for you. If you love heavy dose of action and suspense with your romance this book is for you. If you love your romance extra spicy and forbidden, this book is for you. If you love the age gap enemies to lovers goodness, this book is for you.
Jace and Cove were absolutely explosive together. The plot proceeds at a break neck speed with twists and turns and constant surprises. Jace is an epic ahole alpha. Like the extremes of bossy and controlling and dominating. If you are on the fence about how alpha you like your hero to be, Jace is not for you. He does whatever he wants. He has a broken and tragic past from his army days and he has lots of emotional issues. He may be all rough and tough but his heart is a mess of darkness, vengeance and guilt. Cove is forbidden for him but he had to protect her and that means he has to take her away by force and against her wish. She is a spitfire and didn't let herself to be controlled so easily but it was life and death situation. She got inside his supposedly dead cold heart and healed him. She needed someone to love her obsessively, possessively and unconditionally but she never knew it would her best friend's brother.
Ps there are some sensitive issues like PTSD, violence and trauma. So read carefully. The age gap is pretty big and if you are uncomfortable with a big age gap..it's not for you. I won't say it's a dark romance but my dark romance tolerance is very high. There are some heartbreaking raw emotions for sure.
This definitely was far from what I had expected. I went into it thinking this was a normal age gap, best friends brother book... NOPE. I was sorely, sorely mistaken.
What to expect:
Age Gap ✔️ Best friends brother ✔️ Enemies to lovers ✔️ Suspense ✔️ Morally grey hero ✔️ Found family ✔️
Without giving too much away, Cove has had a crush on her best friends must older brother for the last 20 years. But 20 years ago, Jace did something that broke Cove's little heart and she made him enemy number 1 since.
Now in present day, Cove is dealing with her awful parents, like legitimately THE WORST, who want nothing to do with her and she is trying to navigate life after high school. When things happen and Jace is there constantly trying to make her life harder, she thinks.
Their relationship is completely unconventional because of the way it starts and comes together. Things happen that are completely in the morally grey area, but it is hard not to hold out hope for Cove and Jace that they get their HEA.
Love this story of Cove and Jace! This book has action, love, betrayal, lies and loss. My heart hurt for both Cove and Jace and I just wanted a happy ending for them. There is a lot of suspense and wtf moments. The Ending is a bit of a cliff hanger introducing the next Beckham brother story!!
If you like best friends brother romances with some extreme situations, you need to run and read this !!
This book was CRAZY!!! It started so chill with Cove and Jace to each other throats, but nothing out of the ordinary. Then my jaw dropped. What was that plot twist?! GENIUS, that's what it was. It was the perfect element to make the story so much more exciting. This was a roller-coaster of emotions, indeed. And the tension between Cove and Jace was so intense and so well done. Amazing book! Definitely recommend!
Wow! I love a good enemy to lovers book and this one hit the mark. I’m also a sucker for age gap stories and throw in some darkish themes, and I was totally hooked! This heart pounding story had me on the edge of my seat and I could not put it down. I don’t know what I was expecting with Jace and Cove’s story, but it was not this and I loved it every second of it. I am so looking forward to the next Beckham Dynasty story, they just keep getting better and better.
I was excited to dig into this book but was put off pretty early. Jace is... well, I couldn't stand him. At. All. His treatment of Cove was awful, remember that she was only 8 to his 28 and he was so horrible to this little girl who was only trying to be nice to her best friend's brother. Her parents don't pay attention to her and Jace's family has stepped into that role. I skimmed/skipped ahead a bit, things just weren't adding up with him in her life, then poof, she's kidnapped! Definitely caught me by surprise and then to find out who and barely any why... it didn't fit. From there I tried, this fake marriage intrigued me and then I had to stop. With where this went, it was a hard no for me. DNF at 47%.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The second book in the Beckham dynasty follows Cove and Jace. The storyline between these two is absolutely mind blowing. There’s mystery, intrigue, and just heartbreak. But in the best possible way! There may have been a few tears spilled but it was worth it in the end. This is hands down my favorite story of M Robinson so far. Everybody should read this one. ❤️
How many ways can you say this book was SO GOOD? Because I say it everytime I read a M. Robinson book. I'm starting to sound like a broken record because I devour each release. This one had so much of my favorite things Forbidden- he's her bffs brother Age Gap- 20 years HE77 YEAH! Military- there is just something sexy about a man in the service Action- Holy Crap did we have a lot. Heat- doesn't get much hotter than this couple I could go with my list but some of you should experience on your own. And the next one? Oh Wow a bomb was dropped at the end of this one.
At the end of Tempting Enemy, we discovered that Cove was missing. What nobody realized, nobody would have even imagined, her kidnapper was none other than her first crush, her first heartbreak, Haven's older brother Jace. And he did it to save her life.
All the twists and turns, the intrigue, the hot and cold from Jace, made this such a good, dark romance.
The spice in this book was next level 🌶️🌶️🌶️ That 🔫 scene?!😮💨😮💨😮💨 Cove and Jace are enemies to lovers to the tenth degree, because holy was their banter angry + spicy. I really enjoyed this one and can’t wait for the next one!!
I was so thrilled to get an ARC copy of this book! Since we met Jace and Cove in Tempting Enemy, I was hoping for this pairing and it did not disappoint. This is your classic older brother that hates his younger sister’s best friend and best friend that secretly likes said older brother but with a major suspense twist.
Perfect Enemy had it all - hate, lust, slow burn, hot steam, intrigue, suspense, and a happy ending. You can’t help but feel for Jace and all he has been through in the military. Cove is constantly disappointed by others in her life that are supposed to love her. When all she has to trust is the man she hates, will they survive or go down in flames?
Alpha holes and redemption. This book was seriously so many high and lows. I wasn’t prepared for so much in a book. So prepare yourself to hate Jace but find his redemption with Cove.
This book was sooooo good 😌 Jace & Cove were *chefs kiss* they’re both going through their issues but the ending kinda leaves on a cliffhanger but it’s okay 👍🏼 can’t wait to read the next book !
I loved the book but that man made me so angry on multiple occasions. Cove put up with more than I would have!it is definitely a good read though and I do recommend it.
Age Gap Forced proximity Bestfriend’s brother Enemies to lovers Anti-hero
Cove has been bestfriend with Haven since they were 4. Cove comes from a rich family, but her parents are never around and they’ve always neglected her. Because of that, she spent most of her time at Haven’s house. From a young age she had a crush on Haven’s brother, Jace. The crush was one sided because Jace is much older (20 YEAR AGE GAP- LOVE IT). When he turned 18, he joined the navy and kept his distance even from his family. He still loves them, but he just doesn’t show it.
Years pass and Jace is now back. He’s 38 and Cove is 18. Jace finds himself showing up everytime she’s in trouble and can’t stay away any longer. But Jace has many secrets and to save her life, he ends up kidnapping her. Not only that, but they have to pretend to be a happy couple. To make Cove get used to his touch, he takes her to a sex club👀! WHAT A MAN! Jace is a mystery and there are many twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting.
My heart broke for both of them. Jace was so broken. He kept pushing her away and fighting his emotions, but he cared for her. Cove was a strong heroine. She was determined to show him what it would be like if he opened up to her. The push and pull energy, the growing tension, angst and chemistry were perfectly done. Something happens and Jace confesses his feelings. I was crying like a baby during that scene but omg it was just so beautiful to finally hear him admit his feelings.
Be prepared for a hot anti-hero with a dirty mouth and possessive. Also get a cold bottle of water, this is a spicy read (umm a gun was used. If you know, you know😈)
