A bond forged through secrets.
A devastating, simmering attraction.
And beneath it all, the truth that will save or doom me.

The heart wrenching sequence of Among Shadows.
When Aila dared to put the safety of Niram’s prince – her closest friend and lover – above the spy master’s command, she didn’t expect to end up running from everything she’d ever known. As her deepest secrets were exposed and the prince became nothing more than a bitter enemy, she found herself thrusted in the midst of a rebellion, with a bright orphan and a lying captain as her only lifelines.

Now, as the Elementalists ready and the whispers of the Heir of Light and Dark rise, Aila will be forced to deal with the consequences of her lies. And when her ties to the Rebel Alliance deepen and the inevitable pull towards the former captain becomes too strong to ignore, she will have no choice but to confront the truth behind her mysterious power.

With the stakes higher than ever, Aila will need to accept who she was born to become or watch as the world she embraced go up in flames.

Blazing Sunlight is the sequel to Among Shadows and the author did a fantastic job with this book. I thought I enjoyed the first book, but the second book had me at the edge of my seat.
Aila has escaped Aidan and Ivo's grasp, on the run along with Flynn and a group of characters that are instant favourites.
Aila still struggles to process the trauma she experienced by Kiran's hand and I felt it's a form of PTSD. Several things triggered these memories for Aila and I think Mora did a wonderful job showing us how Aila went through a healing process, taking what happened to her and using it as fuel to add to her fire of revenge. Betrayal, family secrets and bonds are all part of Aila's story, some cause pain and others freedom.

"𝙎𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙚, 𝘼𝙞𝙡𝙖. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨, 𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙡𝙤𝙬, 𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙛𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜. 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙖 𝙥𝙞𝙚𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙧. 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪. 𝙄 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚."

There were many beautiful moments between Aila and Flynn and the slow-burn romance had the tension building, but not everything was romantic, there were some fights as well. Flynn is such a charmer, I also wouldn't be able to stay mad at him. I enjoyed how Aila embraced both sides of her magic and without giving any spoilers, she delved deep and overcame so much doubt and fear to reach the point where she is at the end of the book. The character development is strong and it's been a while since I felt so connected with a cast of characters, everyone needs such a group of friends. They will tell you when you're wrong, but they'll try and find a way to help you make it right. Now the ending, please this is agony!!! I can't deal with that kind of pain. I need the next book!

TW mentioned at the start of the book: explicit sexual content and darker elements, including mature language, violence, reference to torture, and abusive relationships. It is not intended for anyone under 18 years of age.

This book is perfect for fans of Shadow and Bone, Throne of Glass or readers who like fantasy with found family and a slow-burn romance.

Thank you MTMC Tours and the author for the gifted electronic copy in exchange for an honest review.

Among Shadows was one of my standout reads of last year, so I’ve been counting down the days to get my hands on Blazing Sunlight. It was everything I hoped for and more! I’ve not been this excited about a fantasy series since From Blood and Ash.

In Blazing Sunlight, we follow Aila, still healing from the physical and mental scars from the events in book one, before going on a journey of self discovery in a bid to stop the impending war.

I loved everything about this book. The world building is unique and beautifully crafted and every page is filled with action, intrigue, drama, political wrangling, prophecy and magic.

There are so many great characters and we get to know a lot of my favourites better in this book. Aila has a LOT of plates to spin, but does it with skill, fierce determination, loyalty and a good measure of sass and I loved her for it.

Aila’s slow burn relationship with Flynn was agonisingly delicious and gave me butterflies. We get to know more of Flynn’s true personality and he stole my heart with his intoxicating mixture of charm, cockiness, patience and protectiveness of those he loved.

There’s a beautiful theme of found family and the unconditional love and banter that Aila’s friends Leon, Poppy, Ezer and Bren show her is lovely. I have a huge soft spot for Leon and I loved watching his friendship with Aila grow.

If you like fantasy novels with strong heroines, unique world building, cool magic, allll the drama and the most delicious slow burn romance, then you need this series in your life!

After finishing the first breathtaking book in this series, Among Shadows, I have waited restlessly for the sequel. When I was offered to be apart of the ARC team for Blazing Sunlight by Aline P Mora I was beyond thrilled! Upon reading the first chapter I could already see how the writing brings the reader right back into the world and does not let go. Just like the first book in the series, I was completely enthralled with the suspenseful writing and building of the character arcs. The pacing of this book allows for all the details and plot points to come together seamlessly and reach their conclusion in perfect timing. This book encapsulates the same mystery and magic as the first that will keep the reader guessing. Throughout this book, Aila continues to struggle with finding her place and dealing with trauma from her past. Aline P Mora does a wonderful job of tying this into the decisions Aila makes and bringing realism into the fantasy world. The dynamics of the characters as they change and develop their own personalities brings such depth to this read and left me feeling truly connected to their stories. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy as it has quickly become one of my favorites!

⭐4.5/5

I had the wonderful opportunity to ARC review this book and I was not disappointed. Blazing Sunlight is the sequel to Aline P. Mora’s debut fantasy trilogy about a witty and cunning female lead, Aila, and her journey to understand her past and her place in the political plots of her mentor, Ivo - as well as control her mysterious new power and accept the responsibility that comes with it.

This sequel starts a little slow to match the soft ending to the previous novel, but has fantastic representation of PTSD and the pace allows for the relationships between the characters to develop naturally and give meaning to each of their places in Aila’s life; each character has been cleverly provided with their own problems and secrets.

New characters are introduced as Aila procures allies, and through them the magic system is explained more thoroughly, with the way that magic is connected to each country’s ruler having a direct impact on the Kingdom and the people within it, leading to an incredible twist (and a new threat). The only thing I dislike about this book is, unfortunately, the love interest, as I personally felt that his treatment of Aila at her lowest points was cruel. Despite this, Aila grows a lot throughout the course of the plot, and her humanity and acceptance of her true identity make her a beautifully written and compelling character.

I really loved this book and it is a must-read for fans of Shadow and Bone, and the found family trope <3

Gahhh omg! This ended on a cliffhanger!! WHYYYYY!?

This was one of my most anticipated reads after I finished Among Shadows and Aline did not disappoint. I loved every second of reading this book!

The plot revolves around Aila's stay with her found-family, Allaince, as she comes into terms with her traumatic life events. I loved how the author showed Aila's character to have been affected by events and showed her strength as she overcame her fears.

While I felt that Among Shadows ended too quickly (that book was amazing), this one felt more like being eased into the universe that was introduced in the first book. The pacing of the book is slow as we look deep into the world-building as well as the history of the characters.

The romance was slow-burn and I loved the moments shared by the two. The relationship between characters, especially the Alliance, was so fun to read. New romances, old naughty secrets, as well as family secrets. It was fast intertwined and I loved how it was explained so that I,as a reader, was not confused.

I did want to read more about Aiden, but I'm sure he will make longer appearances in the next book.

Thank you to the author and betweenthespinestour for the ARC. All opinions are my own and not influenced.

I received this book for free from Author, MTMC Tours in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Blazing Sunlight was a true delight, with a strong and lovable MC and an amazing cast of characters that surround her, I will be following this high stakes fantasy romance until the very end!! While in Among Shadows we are introduced to Aila, a clever and resourceful spy with an easygoing attitude, in Blazing Sunlight we get to experience the change and lies she was led to believe most of her life. I’m so invested in Aila’s journey, she really has grown a lot throughout these first two books, from learning about her family to finding a new place, friends & an impossibly shameless love interest (Flynn♥️). And let me tell you it has not been easy for her, but nevertheless the story kept up with good humor despite the darker storyline. Cannot wait to see what comes next in the third book of The Heir of Light and Dark series!!

Amazing sequel!! In this second instalment of the Heir of Light and Dark series, the stakes are even higher, the lore is expanded and we deep dive into Aila’s past and heritage. All the elements that made me love the first book are here, the character building, detailed scenery descriptions, intrigue and great twists! Impossible not to relate to Aila struggles, relationships, doubts and how she navigates in this complex, magical and beautiful universe that Aline created! You will not wanna miss Blazing Sunlight with all the lore revelations, war brewing, secrets from Aila’s past, world expanding, new and old amazing characters and awesome magic! And when you think you got all figure it out, just you wait… What an ending! Revealing, fast, raw and brutal!! Loved it (after almost fainting)! Can’t wait to read what Aline have for us for the big conclusion of this fantasy series!
Additional feedback: The book cover is amazing can’t wait to get my hands on the physical version!!

After having read one of the most amazing books, Among Shadows, I couldn't wait much longer and plunged myself straight into the next book.. and boy, what a book this is!!😍

After the horrors and torture that we get to witness in the previous book, here we get to see how Aila deals with her PTSD, and also her new found power and all that entails about her heritage! Flynn's family history and also how he came to be the captain of Valran's personal guards is revealed and that explains much of his mysterious ways! It's kind of nice to watch the character arcs and the way they grow throughout the series! The author did this phenomenal job of narrating the pasts and describing every minor detail in sync with the timeline flawlessly to answer all the questions budding in the readers' minds! The relationships and the growing bondings, the love and caring we get to see amongst the chosen family is admirable! The setup and locations, so beautiful.. I could vividly imagine the skies turn from bright and ripe orange to the deep starry night sky from the mountain ledge overlooking waterfall! The magical descriptions of each of the kingdom with their unique elemental magic.. really commendable!

I was beyond happy when I was offered to be a part of the ARC team for Blazing Sunlight and share my honest review of the book! And I'd say I loved it because I really did! And would recommend this series to all the fantasy lovers, and Throne Of Glass and Shadow And Bone fans!

After reading the first book, Among Shadows, my patience was tested for the release of the second book. I am usually neutral/patient when it comes to the release of a sequel. However, once I finished reading the first book, I knew I was going to go mad.

Did the second book meet those expectations after awaiting so long for its release? It EXCEEDED those expectations.

It is so hard to make a sequel better than the first book but Aline is one of those rare authors that made it happen. I can tell that the author writes with such passion with ever scene that I am thrown into.

The MC is one of my all-time favorite characters because we get to see her character develop and evolve. This book also satisfied whatever questions I had coming out from reading the first book.

Overall, without giving any spoilers, I can say without a doubt that Aline has done it again and this book deserves another round of 5 Stars.

It took me quite some time to finish it because of all the family functions. Anyway, I'm glad it picked this up again. I missed Aila and Flynn.
There are so many good things about Aline's writing, but my favourite would be her cliffhangers. They leave you so desperate for the next part. I'm so glad Ail and Aiden found some closure. I really didn't like him as a villain. Also, is there anything that Aila cannot do?

Book 2 of the Heir of Light and Dark did not disappoint.
I really love the vivid imagery and descriptive action/fight scenes in this adventure. The author cleverly reeled me into this story. I enjoyed the pull and tug on my emotions and the delicious slow burn between Flynn and Aila. I'm so invested in all these characters, I can't wait to read book 3.

Honestly, this was the perfect sequel. Among Shadows was one of my favourite reads from last year. I knew I would like it, but I fell in love with the world Mora created. I am so happy to have had the chance to read the arc for Sunlight. It exceeded all expectations and didn't suffer from middle book syndrome the way a lot of second books do. It was exciting and heartbreaking. Finally learning Aila's true past was an eye-opener and I feel like the next book may be devastating but brilliant. I read this book so fast, I couldn't stop reading. The story is just so compelling and you need to know what happens next. I found myself saying 'just one more chapter' and then it would be one in the morning. I am so madly in love with this series.
