For as long as anyone could remember, the Drakos and Petrakis families had been at war. In recent years, after too much bloodshed, the death of Andreas Petrakis’s wife, and two failed arranged marriages, resulting in the death of Tatiana Petraki, all thoughts of peace were stored away as the war between both families started again. And this time, blood will be shed.
When Raelyn Armstead’s best friend invites her to Greece for a fun vacation, Raelyn thinks it will be a great time for relaxation while she takes a break from school. But when Raelyn meets her best friend’s hot new boyfriend, Leonidas Petrakis who is a mysterious club owner, she doesn’t like Leonidas’s lingering gaze nor the dark look in his eyes that tells her he’s dangerous but lures her in all the same.
It doesn’t take long for Raelyn’s fun vacation to take a dangerous turn, and Raelyn must find a way out of Greece and from the grasp of Leonidas for her friends’ sake and her own heart. The only way out is to do what Leonidas has tasked her with—seducing Nikos Drakos, his enemy. Raelyn doesn’t know if her heart can survive the devilish Leonidas Petrakis and the charming Nikos Drakos. But she’ll die trying.
Survivor could be read as a stand-alone, but for a more enjoyable experience, it’s best to read the first three books in the series, especially Prisoner and Conqueror, which connect to the events in this book. *Survivor is the first part of a trilogy within the Blood War Series, but don't fret. The following two books will come out at the end of each following month.
I really wanted this to be pierce & Evelyn book because they are fascinating. I liked both men in this story. I initially liked Rae because I too am cynical, sarcastic & have little patience for most people but Rae was unlikable & dull. Spending the entire story "pretending " with everyone made her unrelatable. Based on her muted personality, it's hard to believe that her & Anastasia were best friends even more unbelievable that she would want to go on a vacation to see her. She's dispassionate the ENTIRE book until the end. I didn't believe she loved or liked either men. She's my least favorite heroine in this series by far. I will also note I'm exhausted by bw authors making their bw heroines seem "unattractive" you see this trope a lot in IR romances but not as much in black romances. There's something to unpack there. I would love to see one of these heroines match the heroes energy. The damsel in distress that's terrified of this life has become reductive in this genre. It's been done to death, give me a black woman from some inner city in America that ends up in Greece falling for one of these guys & she can hold her own. Those stories are so much more interesting. A woman can be tough yet soft, brave and vulnerable. I need some layers & nuance, like the men in these stories have. Rae doesn't deserve either of them. It also felt like a betrayal of her character to offer to sleep with her best friend boyfriend so he wouldn't hurt them. That did not gel with how she behaved leading up to that moment.
Well, this installment of The Blood War series definitely kept my attention although there was little to no romance element to it. Very action-packed, a very complicated heroine and many twists and turns and not the most likable hero ..well he’s one of the heroes lol it’s a lot going on. I did appreciate appearances by other characters from previous installments to assist in the continuity of the series. It’s been a minute since Bee Daniels wrote the last one but she was successful in keeping my interest alive in the series with this book. Looking forward to next installment which should drop next week!
I am so thrilled Ms. Daniels, one of my favorite authors is back. No more stalking the Kindle store for her next release. This book did not disappoint. Raelyn was different from your typical herione. Others may view her as calculating but what she did was survive. I loved Leonidas. I think he saw the real Raelyn, the one even she refused to acknowledge. I appreciate that we got to see a different side of the war. I like a book with a dark gritty side. I look for to many more books in this series.
OMG!! This story is 🔥!! I got to see the Petrakis side of things especially Leonidas the conniving snake who loves to play games. I feel so sad for Raelyn's predicament and I hope Nikos eventually forgive her! You did a wonderful job 👏 Ms Bee Daniels!! I wish I could've given you 10 🌟. I totally recommend this book! But please read the previous books 1-3 to appreciate the whole story!
I have to say I lost interest, as I was an Evelyn and Pierce fan and really hated how their story end! But have to say I'm interested again, I liked this love triangle and would like to see it to the end. But really want to read Evelyn and Pierces finarly.
This book was worth the wait. The heat between Leonidas and Raelyn was intense I loved them as a couple. I was mad at Anastasia for some of the things she did. Nickos is sweet but strong I hope he gets a happily ever after. Can’t wait for the next book.
I waited for the next installment in the series. My only complaint is the use of the term trilogy, as that implies three books, this is setting us up for the fifth book and possibly the sixth. Otherwise, I love the storyline and the female characters and these ruthless Greek gangsters.
This was a long wait but I am glad that it is out! Whew! This book gives the reader the other characters perspectives and what is going on in the Petrakis family and how devious Leonidas Petrakis is! Raelyn is caught up between Leonidas and Nikos. I cannot wait for the release of the next book in the series "Runner"! I am also very anxious to read up on Pierce and Evelyn's storyline, too!
I had given up on the release of this book but I’m glad Ms. Daniels didn’t disappoint. I’m still unsure how I feel about Raelyn, I understood the power she felt with Leonidas I felt their chemistry more than I did with her and Nikos. So I understood why she was caught between the two.
I appreciated the back story of conqueror I wasn’t expecting to see that Mercer knew Leonidas. I’m excited to see how this trilogy ends with Nikos, Raelyn and Leonidas. Of course I expect her and Nikos to get together but I also hope that Nikos character becomes more like Aris. I feel no regret for Anastasia she was an utter fool and it seems her cousin may be heading down the same road.
Once this book was released I was excited and dragged out reading it so I won’t have to wait long for the next release. I also can’t wait to read about Pierce and Evelyn.
I have read many reviews and to me it just seems that eveyone was so hard on poor Raelyn. *So can we say Survivor* Raelyn was that Ride or Die and no matter what she did, she did what she had to do and what had to be done to Survive. It was a true cat and mouse game. I just felt bad for poor Nick...
3.5 Stars It was a good read, it was also good to have the POV from the Petrakis crime family side, and the relationship of Raeylen and Leonidas and their POV's. The series is good and it keeps you coming back for more Looking forward to the next book in this side series
Raelyn, Raelyn, Raelyn — you are such a badass beautiful woman. Damn. I didn't see it coming from reading about her small glimpse in the previous book.
