Dragon Tails #7

Gift of Dragons

Rate this book
Every lore of every clan, across time and space, dreamed of dragons. Did you ever wonder why?

Benjamin D’Angelo is off on a new quest with helpful friends.

As always, their success is limited by seemingly arbitrary rules and an even more arbitrary sandglass of time. The only things they can count on is that: 1) each of their quests takes them to a time in the past, 2) they will witness (and perhaps even enable) True Love along the way, and 3) the Universal Balance hangs in...well, the balance.

Their seventh task is to uncover the Secret Gift.

I have no words for how epically GREAT this installment is. NO. WORDS. This is my sort of 3rd read, 2nd formal read - and it's my FAVORITE of the seres!

Alright, I'll write SOME, but because my brain has melted into goo like the rest of my body as I sit here simpering like a besotted mooncalf (you know what I mean), don't expect eloquence.

This is the story of Heba (Hatshepsut, the most famous and greatest female Pharoah in ancient Egypt) and Shai (her slave turned Captain of the palace guards).

Need I say more?!

The setting is Egypt, both modern (to a small extent) and ancient (mostly where their love story takes place).

Need I go on?!!

If you haven't been convinced to read the book based on above alone, I don't know what else to say...

Their love story is one for the ages. And Shai... my (ahem, OUR) Shai... there are no words to describe how beautiful, wonderful, manly, perfect he is. He's just PERFECT for Heba, and he loves her so, so, so much!

And Heba... she's not your typical heroine. Altho - AJ doesn't write "typical" heroines. All of her hs are BADASS. In their own way. Heba is a ruler. But she's also just a young woman trying to figure out her feelings for one particular man. And THE SCENE where she finally breaks down?

EPIC.

Their love (and sex) is incendiary. Their passion is volcanic. There's quite a bit of angst, but GOOD angst. And tho it seemed like forever when we were getting this book in half-chapter installments for the two to finally get with the program (and each other), when you read it as a whole, it just FLOWS. You can't even put it down. It's:

EPIC!!!!

READ. IT.!!!

Read the whole series, and start with the Pure/ Dark Ones first!! Don't skip a single word!

Love is patient.
Love is kind.

No two lovers know this better than Heba and Shai.
From the moment they met, circumstances prevented them from being together.
She was royalty. He was her slave.
Between them grew a love that transcended time, space, situations, and even their best efforts to fight it.

I'll admit, this story touched me in ways the others didn't. The power play between these characters struck a chord in me, wrecking me emotionally, creating all of the angst that I didn't know I craved. All I wanted was for these characters to talk and be free to be together. They had to overcome so much just to love one another.

And I was in love with the many ways Shai and Heba stayed devoted to each other, even before they realized the endless love they felt.

And when finally the true greatness of Shai was revealed... I was as thrilled, awed, and in love as Heba.

He knew what he truly was at last.
He was dragon.
He was man.
A man who loved a mortal woman.
A dragon who could not exist on earth.

One of the things I adore most about this series (and the one before) is the many moving parts it takes to tell this story. It's not just about the couple of the day. It's about everyone and their loves and lives. It's about what happened and what is to come. It's about the mystery surrounding Ben and when it will finally be revealed. It's about so much more than the romance. So much more. I can't help but fall for the people. I've become so invested and the way this author writes her words, the way she puts everything together, the way she's built this world... it will keep me engaged FOREVER!!

I really can't postpone reading this like I was trying to... trying to pore over every word and re-read every paragraph to fully draw out the enjoyment...

All of the shelf descriptions I have for this book scratch my every itch. This book ticks ALL of my love-starved boxes!!

We have the ALPHA hero who is: beautiful, protective, loving unconditionally, deep-voiced and deep-feeling, knows what he wants, proud but not arrogant, confident but not condescending (or somesuch, AJ wrote it better). He's EVERYTHING my dream alpha male husband-lover would be!!!

Our beautiful, magnificent SHAI!!!

We have the wise-beyond-her-years yet emotionally underdeveloped heroine, the most successful pharoah in all of Egyptian history! Who (I believe) loved Shai as soon as he loved her, but just didn't know it.

Heba is BADASS. And I LOVE her possessiveness!!

We have in parallel, the urgent search party of Ben, Ere and Sorin to find the Secret Gift, and in the process help Heba and Shai be together.

ANd y'all! It's set in EGYPT!!! The mysterious, gorgeous, magical place of EGYPT!!!!!

The PASSION! The HOTTTTTTT SEX!!! The pining and wishing and pulling and pushing between the MCs... PERFECTION! And ultimately, the LOVE!

It's visceral! You can feel it! I'm swooning from it!

You have to read it for yourself to understand. Think about it:

A queen and her slave. A pharoah and her captain of the guard. A love that burns between them that can't see the light of day. What will they do? What is their secret? How can they overcome all odds to be together????

You have to read to find out!!!

INFINITE GLORIOUS STARS!!!

THIS BOOK. I mean....THIS BOOK!

description

Gift of Dragons was a GLORIOUS gift!

“…a kiss born of love could unite two souls, because the spirit was carried in one’s breath.”

Ben, Ere, and Sorin are back at it (this time doing it on their own)...kicking butt and discovering names. In this quest, it's revealing the truths of Pharoah Hatshepsut and her Shai. Ben, Ere, and Sorin find themselves in Egypt and what they find pushes the timeline of an impending war closer. And no one knows better than Ben and his family that freedom, safety, and love are the jewels of life.

“…every moment should be well lived. Every moment was worth fighting for.”

Leaving the present, the life of Hatshepsut and her Shadow is a story of longing, love, passion, and pain. Shai is Hebas and through the years she would learn that he would snuggle into every crack and crevice in her heart and soul. Even when she couldn't understand the connection and emotion they shared and questioned everything in her life, she knew he was always the answer.

Shai became hers the day Heba saved what he loved and he protected her without question or reservation. He gave and gave even when Heba couldn't give back equally. Shai never dreamed that Heba could ever be his but sometimes the best gift of life is timing.

Heba and Shai are separated and it felt like a hot poker to the heart but the timing could not have been more perfect because it set so many things in motion and a dragon always finds his mate.

“…Beyond life and death. I will find you again.”

Ben, Ere, and Sorin have the perfect opportunity to bring Heba and Shai back together. Will they succeed? Will Shai and Heba get the HEA they so desperately deserve? If Ben, Ere, and Sorin succeed in their quest, will Shai and Heba help in what's to come?

As with most of Aja's stories, this was beautifully tragic and heartbreaking but also wonderfully uplifting and passionate. Action packed, we are still left with many questions while other questions are answered. Bread crumbs of Ben's part in everything were a delight to read and Seventh Sister is such an enigma to me. The steam in here was top notch and incredibly emotional and vibrant. I loved this story so hard and already want the next book!

When Aja started giving us the first tantalizing bits of Gift of Dragons,it very quickly became clear this was not going to be a quest like before.
This was Ben,Ere and Sorin taking matters into their own hands.
And this was the unveiling of the life of one of the greatest Pharaohs that ever lived,Hatshepsut, and her Shadow warrior,Shai.

And i knew that, even though i claimed Shai for myself,he needed the love of all the Muses.
Because this beautiful man, this gorgeous dragon, has so much love to give….needs to be loved so badly…..it would’ve been a crime to keep him for myself.
So,he became another member of our quickly growing family of wonderful, magical, beautiful dragons.
A family we love with all of our hearts.

The reason Ben decides to go on a quest of his own,is to take control.
To make sure that any dragons left to be found, will not be taken to the Celestial Realm.
And somehow,he feels the key to his quest lies in the history of Egypt.
More specifically,in the time of Hatshepsut.
And he’s going to start his search in the Valley of Kings.
With Ere and Sorin,apparently.
What they find is beyond their wildest dreams…

Hatshepsut was her father’s favorite, and he wanted her to become the next Pharaoh.
Heba was intelligent and knew what was important.
He bought her a gift, one that would become the most precious gift he ever gave her,Shai.
Who would become her Shadow, and who was with her day and night.
And even though he was the most important person in Heba’s world, the only man she ever wanted, the only one she trusted 100%, she didn’t understand fully what he meant to her until it was almost too late.
Because, even though she was very intelligent, she didn’t know anything when it came to matters of the heart…..

The moment Shai promised Hatshepsut he’d be loyal to her forevermore if she made sure his parents were taken care of,was the moment he became hers.
And throughout the years,he made sure nothing and no-one could harm her.
His heart hurt when she was forced to marry her halfbrother Tutmoses II,but he stood by her.
The night they conceived the son she needed, would be engraved in his mind and soul forever, but it was all they could ever have….or so he thought.

Their story was heartbreaking, even more so because when they finally showed eachother how they felt,on the journey to Punt, they were torn apart.
Tragedy struck on the journey back from Punt, when they were attacked.
And Shai disappeared.
Leaving his heart,his love,his reason for living,behind.
And how was Heba going to survive without her love, her shadow, her reason for living??

Ben,Ere and Sorin’s search for the mystery dragon became a quest to reunite Heba with her Shai once they found out the true story of her life.
But how to achieve their goal, that was the question……
Who would be able to help them???

Having read the ARC,having read this beauty in one very satisfying go,i can safely say that Aja James gave this intriguing part of history a very satisfying twist.
A twist with a very happy ending.
Not only that, she lifted the veil a little more on the person Ben is becoming…..and i love it!
She showed us a little more of the Seventh Sister’s history, and who she is now…..véry intriguing!
She gave us a glimpse of the plans our friends are making.
Leaving us with a urgent need for the next story, the one entailing The Embrace???

I have received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Wow. Just wow.

Gift of Dragons is the seventh installment of the Dragon Tails series. It honestly doesn't feel like we are even on the seventh book or preparing to dive into the eighth. The characters and the adventures just keep getting better and better. I haven't felt disappointed once in this series or in any other book written by the wonderful Aja.

The romance between Heba and Shai was a masterpiece. It deserves all the awards and then some. I swooned, melted, and screamed throughout it all. They had their flaws, for sure. Yet they didn't run away from the good or the bad parts between their relationship. I devoured it all and then some.

Oh, and trust me, they had some good parts.

I feel like we should all raise our glasses and give them all the cheers they deserve. Their love was epic in so many ways and I can't wait for the next one to come out. Seriously, I'm melting from the anxiety of not having it within my hands right now. I need to know what is going to happen next. I need more epic loves to fantasize about.

Overall, I need more Aja! I will admit the bonus chapter was amazing in this one but still, I'm greedy and need more please!

So mesmerized and captivated by Heba and Shai's epic and breathtaking love story! I was worried at first that the princess, who would become one of the Mightiest Pharaohs, and her former slave would have had to face and to fight massive obstacles to belong together. I braced myself to go through all the excruciating pains and heartaches with them, the way I had done for Dalair and Sophia! I was ecstatic that I was completely wrong!

I loved Heba and Shai in Ancient Egypt beyond words. And I ran out of words literally. I could only invite all of Fantasy lovers to pick up this fantastic book and experience what had stunned me speechless, in person, please.

Sharing one of my favorite scenes 💔💧 :

My Lord Osiris, wisest and fairest of all gods—
I, your humble servant, Hatshepsut He ba, beseech your aid.
In a matter of Heart and Soul.
A matter of love.
. . .

I do not want to die, for fear of losing my Love in the afterlife.
I do not want to live, for he is no longer in my realm.
. . .

Please allow me to wait for him, I beg of you.
There is no heaven without my Shai.

With deepest gratitude to the amazing author for a gift of this ARC 🙇🏽‍♀️

Very interesting and a lot going on.
Loved Shai and Heba.

So many questions about the JE and what he is up to. Is his actions Nefarious? Is it Greed of some sort?

And then there is Ben. My thoughts of Ben have changed so often I've confused myself!
But, I think I'm beginning to understand some things with him.
Hopefully the next book will give me more answers to all my questions!

*** ARC Review***

THIS BOOK!!!! I just cannot put into works how great this book just flowed. As many of you know, I absolutely love Aja's books and might be a little biased, BUT this book!!!!, just takes the cake for me. I can, without a doubt, say that this book is my favorite in this series.

We have Heba and Shai set in Ancient Egypt, and we have Ben, Ere & Sorin set in modern Egypt. It could be that I have a soft spot for Ancient Egyptian stories, but this book just pushed all my buttons.

Heba and Shai are by far the best couple.  They have history, friendship, trust from the beginning, and then later on the passion. It's amazing to read their thoughts and feelings and how they protect each other without even realizing it. Heba is just a badass! She is a queen badass and such a strong woman. With Shai, you can also see her vulnerable sides, which were so sweet. Shai is just Shai! There is no comparison to anyone else. He was her slave and then her captain of the guard. His EVERYTHING is just amazing, but his love for Heba is what is beyond amazing. To be loved like that... swoon!! ♥️. This book is their story. How they grew up together, found friendship, trust, love, and passion. How they had to battle the rules of that era and still be together. It's simply amazing 👏.

Ben, Ere, and Sroin (my loves) are trying to find the secret GIFT in the modern day. They also get to go tomb excavating in modern-day Egypt. SO EXCITING!!!! And all the finds!!! 😮

On a side note 📝  I need to point out the seventh sister.  I just have so many things going in my head and need to know more even though she stresses me out, haha.

Please please read this book. It was absolutely amazing, and as always, Aja has done it again!
I can't wait to start the next book and continue this amazing series!

If you haven't read anything by Aja yet, you seriously need to start with her Pure/Dark series and just binge your way to this book. I highly recommend reading that series before this as there are several over lapping characters, and most importantly, it is AMAZING ✨️

Gift of Dragons is an incredible addition to the Dragon Tails series. It reminded me of the author's Pure/Dark Ones series. I was not sure what to expect from this book but I am in awe. Heba and Shai are magnificent. Their romance is extraordinary. Their love and passion is so exceptional. I really enjoyed the change of pace within the story and it was just great to see Ben take charge and take matters into his own hands. I am so excited to see what is going to happen and to how it will all play out. Aja James has created an amazing series.

Another fantastic story.
An ancient Egyptian Sleeping Beauty waking up in modern days. Does that make any sense? Well, no, unless you read the story. Then you’ll realise it makes perfect sense.
Both Heba and Shai are wonderful characters but I hold a special place in my heart for Shai…🤗

The toughest part is thinking I’ll have to wait until 2024 to be able to read the next installment!…😢

Can't get enough of this series and really read slowly. This was an ARC provided by the author for an honest opinion.

I can't seem to choose a favorite from any of the books now. There are too many to choose from so I will have to keep reading them all.

I so loved Shai and Heba as the story progressed. I thought Heba was going to keep Shai as her slave in the beginning, but realized that this was their story. From the beginning when she saw Shai on the block she saw something in him that she had to have him. I think she saw him as something to have as her own and knowing that her father Pharoah she could have almost anything she wanted. Although being his favorite her father wished that she was a boy who could have been his heir because she was so smart and thought things out instead of guessing.

The sad part of this story was seeing that Shai could not claim his son, but he was there to train him the entire time with Heba not too far. My heart truly went out for Shai. Although Shai was no longer a slave and had his freedom his heart was with Heba only she couldn't see it at the time. He was going to remain her shadow forever.

Glorious moment was when Shai turned to his dragon form when his mate was almost under attack. Love it.

Ben, Ere, and Sorin who is always quiet, I thought it was really interesting to see Sorin chat a bit more about the clues. Although Ben was going on his own we know Ere is not far behind somewhere in the story. To not have Ere travelling with his son/nephew was not going to happen. (Ere also makes the story funny).

I'm beginning to wonder if Ben could be one of the twin gods as well as Seventh sister. These stories are getting too interesting, BUT we did get that three other stories are coming. Who can we look forward to?

Whose book can we look forward to next?

The Shadow’s shyness

is what makes Shai unique as a character. His quiet strength in the face of degradation and adversity is at times heartbreaking and empowering. His selflessness is almost suicidal to his overall mental health given the untenable situation he is forced to endure.

Heba, on the other hand, is a pampered, spoiled child and she shows it in a big way during her meltdown in a foreign land when Shai is approached by other women. I understand her frustration with her situation, however, she chose the path she walks.

Heba and Shai are an unlikely couple, yet somehow they fit.

Solid storytelling, characterisation, and world building by the author.

On a personal note, very glad to have Ere and Sorin back. Must get my Ere fix! 😁

A star crossed lovers saga, this story broke my heart into pieces but then put it meticulously back together. Heba and Shai were everything. The protectiveness that they demonstrated towards each other, the love and devotion leapt off the pages. As always, the emotion was palpable, something I have learned is this author’s particular style. Add to this, a descriptive, well thought out world and an amazing cast of characters (Ere and Sorin, who are on my top 5 list of favorite characters ever, are front and center and Ere made me crack up while Sorin made me swoon) and I could not put this book down. I’m also highly impressed at how well the author plans through her series- the underlying thread of “what is the Jade Emperor up to and why are all these quests being demanded of Ben, Ere and Sorin?” keeps me ever invested in this series and always ready and waiting for the next book in the series.

A couple of warnings- there is cheating, which in never a favorite aspect of mine. Also, I think that it is important to read the series in order. So much is happening and the author has an obvious plan, with a seamless progression through each book in the series. Not only will the enjoyment of the book be highest if you read all the books in order, these stories are amazing so you’re going to want to anyway! Now I wait anxiously for the next book in the series.

WOW!

What can I say.... reading one of Aja's books never disappoints. And I can say this one is the same. Heba and Shai story made me cry-laugh and then cheer for them with a sigh. I just need so much more of this.

I enjoyed this book. The storytelling and the fact that it was set in ancient Egypt kept my attention. But, I gotta say, there's this one thing that bugs me in all the books of this series. The ladies seem way too into their guy's behinds or 'star,' using their tongues and fingers – it's like a broken record. It gets kinda weird, especially considering the historical context and hygiene stuff. I usually end up skipping those bits. The men are never paying as close attention to the ladies' bodies as the ladies do to their men. And I would put it as just a "kink" for the couple if it were one book but it's all of them. It's literally like copy and paste from each book. One book Tal's from the Pure Ones series was like this too. I don't get the obsession and well not to yuck anyones yum but it's not for me.

Anyway, the storytelling is on point, especially when it comes to describing different places. The author clearly does her homework. I did prefer the Pure and Dark Ones Series though; it had a better vibe. Excited for Benjamin's story, but also a bit worried about the same old theme cropping up. Here's to hoping.

Another amazing book

I’m trying to put in words how good this book is and I don’t think I will do it justice. I absolutely love Shai and Heba story it’s one of my favorite. Please don’t stop writing. I hold onto this book for awhile because I wasn’t ready, I knew I needed this next book, now I’m onto book 8. This is a must read. I cannot wait for you to write Ben story.
