When we consider the birth of Christ, we might tend to forget the impact of His arrival. By looking at an old tradition in a new way, this study will help us rediscover the wonder of Christ’s salvation. It will lead us to praise Jesus for giving us hope, peace, joy, and love in Him. Advent is a season of celebrating the coming of our Savior and preparing our hearts in anticipation of His return.
This four-week study follows the Advent calendar and walks readers through the Advent candle lighting tradition. The four candles represent themes displayed in the first coming of Jesus Christ: hope, peace, joy, and love. Each week focuses on a candle and uses passages from Scripture to show how Jesus fulfilled each theme through His saving work.
The 2022 study explored the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love in Scripture and how each are fulfilled through Jesus. There were a number of missed opportunities to help the reader dig further into the Scripture passage(s) for the day in favor of flimsy questions about lived experience, but thankfully the questions are not the meat of the study. I still appreciate the heart work that happened during the Advent season by completing this study.
Great group or individual study to prepare for Christmas! The book is beautiful and well written, and it incorporates themes throughout scripture to tell a wonderful story of hope, peace, joy, and love.
Great devotional for December to reflect on all Jesus has done and will do for us. I liked how it told about what each candle on the advent wreath stands for and included bible readings for each day.
A lot more devotional style than some of the other deeper studies (including Advent ones) I’ve done by DGC. I would’ve liked a higher amount of scripture reading.
I love The Daily Grace studies, but this one fell a bit flat for me. It wasn’t as deep as their typical studies. It’s definitely not going to deter me from purchasing more studies from TDG.
This is a wonderful Advent Bible study. It takes you from the Old Testament to the New Testament to draw connections from Old Testament prophesies to Jesus' birth and life. It shows a beautiful story of God's love for us while explaining the purpose of each candle in the Advent wreath.
I will note that I don't agree with one theological point on week 4, day 5. Our death cannot appease God's wrath. Only Jesus or our perfection can do that. But, of course, we're sinful and incapable of perfection. But the gospel isn't about appeasing God's wrath - it's about His love for us. From Creation to Jesus' resurrection and beyond, it's always about His love for us.
Well-written and nicely timed. It’s rare to find a devotional that has a perfect length for entry/scripture/reflection questions. With that being said, I skipped the end of the week reflections because they were repetitive and by week 4, the themes were regurgitated and I found myself losing interest. I would still definitely recommend to a friend wanting to have an advent devotional through Christmas.
Evident by the fact I am finishing this in February and it's an advent devo, this is middle of the pack for me. It was full of truth about the arrival of Christ with good context and a full biblical picture, but I wasn't especially excited to read it, found the reading a bit too long each day and not as impactful as I hoped.
A good way to incorporate the meaning of the advent season into your day to day life. Love how interactive it is. Each day redirects you to your Bible to read passages, and then you write short reflections on the following pages with the prompts provided!
