fantastic

I really loved this box set.
The emotion and detail written into the storyline is perfection, the twists and suspense throughout had me completely mesmerised.
Loved all the action, the unplanned mistakes, the mystery.
The characters are detailed and they really build throughout the box set, especially enjoyed their numerous backgrounds and different shifter abilities.
The villains are oddly sucky at their role.
The developing relationships are great and really entertaining.
I love Jaz and Ky. Jaz cracks me up with her inability to hold her tongue.
Can’t wait to read more from this series.

I couldn’t finish. The idea is great but I just didn’t care for the characters. The characters lacked depth and were very superficial. The dialogue was very immature but with adult themes that just didn’t balance well for me.

Gets old fast

The storyline has promise. The first couple of books were page turners, by the third book I had to force myself to keep reading just so I could say I finished
it. I'm not going to read the 5th book even though the fourth book leaves you with what's supposed to be a cliffhanger. I'm board enough of the storyline that I don't care what happens in the next book.

I don't think they characters could be more annoying if the author wrote it purposely

This omnibus covers all 3 books of Rina's story and the first book for Jas. The most common plot thread throughout is the intense uselessness of the FMCs, who can only manage true brain power in 3 second increments during major strife.

Starting with Rina, and actually all 4 books in general, the characters struggle with the concept of urgency and never take action until the antagonist has a hypothetical sword to their throats. In book one we see them wait until the enemies are fully shifted instead of just disabling the enemies while they were at a disadvantage. Repeat that in books 3 and 4 (probably 2 as well but I seem to be blocking it out). Rina is the epitome of a terrible FMC, a wussy dependent incompetent waiting for someone, anyone to take care of her, again only taking action when no one else is available or conscious. She has little focus beyond the hopes of getting Leo in her pants.

Jas is not much better. She is mostly intent on Ky but somehow thinks getting involved with a stranger over summer break is totally fine. She has morals so murky swamp water is more palatable. She's not just blunt, she is actively hurtful and takes joy in being obnoxious and detrimental from her first line on page. She's also as thick as a rock based on the fact that she realizes the control mechanism for the pendant about 5 times before actively trying to utilize it, and at no point is anyone smart enough to try using the pendant's power against itself.

Unfortunately it's not just the FMCs who are obnoxious and poorly written. Ky and Leo have as much depth as a puddle. Neither is a truly nice relationship prospect either. The entire cast persists in using "ers" to denote the semester of study (oners, twoers etc) which is the least imaginative and most trite indicator possible. The author doesn't seem to fully understand what a semester means either, having her Jas claim to be in her fourth year when she is in 4th semester, so 2nd year. She has near naked trolls as a running jokish trend throughout, which is nothing more than childish distraction from the actual subpar story. I get it, they're fae, they are still competent adult characters and would still be asked to wear pants in settings with food and pupils. Add in truly evil antagonists who decide messing with clothing distribution is a great way to fight the protagonists and I'm questioning the audience the author planned to target. Lastly is the scene in Marcy June's class where Jas basically turns her disliked classmates into a peepshow in return for them being a bit bitchy - it's not humorous, Jas had already recognized her ability with the pendant which just makes her an evil malicious bitch herself.

Interesting characters and universe

This is an interesting book filled with fun and interesting characters set in an interesting universe. I am not sure it is a universe I would like to visit, but the characters seem to definitely enjoy it. Lots of action, magic, adventure and interesting non human people are all enjoying themselves in this series. I enjoyed it and recommend it.

Books 1-4 completed and my overall score in reality is 3.5. I liked the idea of the academy and the magical skills of the students. However the storyline seemed a lacking in depth at times and I lost some interest in the books. These are perhaps directed towards and accepted by young adults - I notice that other reviewers have loved them and left more positive comments. Books can't please every reader - the choice is yours!

good story but…

It’s a really promising story but I was left feeling disappointed that the details for all the relationships were so superficial and really lacked any depth. There’s a bunch of detail on things that I couldn’t have cared less about and little to no dialogue between people.

Magic for today's world.

Wonderful stories of magical creatures, people set in Sedona, AZ.
Of friendships, learning, growth, and coming to terms with heartache and loss.
Along with love and magical misshapes.
A fantasy world where we all would love to live in.
I couldn't put this series down.
And now on to the rest of the story...

Want

I like the characters especially Leander. Lucia Ashta described her characters so well. I want more stories about Leander, Ky, and Boone. There is mention about the previous year. I want to know what the boys got up to. I'll buy the next box set to see if it is mentioned there.

Fun read!

The characters, dialogue, magic and world building are all excellent.
I have to say I enjoyed Leo and Rina's story more than Jazz's. Partly because it felt finished, where Jazz is left me hanging.
Also, I Really don't like her mother... at all!
I have to say I am interested in seeing where the next book takes us!

Excellent set of books, I read all four in a week, they moved seamlessly from one book to the next.
The story was different to other books of this genre that I have read, and are well written and kept me interested the whole way through.
I have just ordered the next four books to follow these and can't wait to start them

Pandacorn?

Loved these books. Could not put them down. Okay, it down. What was not to like. You have gifted young adults in a school for gifted beings, with professors who are gifted and bare bottomed pygmy trolls. One minute you are cringing and the next smirking. Then enters the pandacorn.

Awesome series

Awesome series for anyone that enjoys paranormal fantasy stories. L. Ashta is a new author to me but, I will definitely read more of her books. Very entertaining. Teen angst, romance and life threatening situations in a magical setting. I laughed out loud several times. Try them!

getting tired of the constant dumbness

I kind of liked the series for a while, but then the romance got overbearing and the unnecessary cluelessness of the characters really dragged along. Now the cliffhanger at the end of volume 4 was the last straw. I hate them with a passion. I won’t be reading any further.

Silly Childish Fun

I keep getting these cheap book deals…and wishing I hadn’t. This was one of those books that are just engaging enough to keep skimming through, but bad enough that I hate myself for doing it.
