Limerick Game

Rate this book
New Year’s Eve Philadelphia in 1927: Max “Boo Boo” Hoff deserves the title of King of the Bootleggers. His illegal empire quenches the thirst of merrymakers through control of over eight thousand speakeasies across the city. City Hall is in one of his pockets, with the police in the other. Max fancies a New Year’s celebration for the ages. He reserves the entire downtown Hotel Sylvania and personally invites top celebrities, politicians, and business elites. In fact, anyone wearing formal attire is welcome to the party.

Max may think he’s in control. But far from it. He invites two couples to participate in the Limerick Game. Whoever tells the best tall tale, short tale, funny tale, or dramatic tale during the evening’s celebration will win a new house, compliments of Max. During the competition, these two couples touch the lives of everyone they meet, sometimes in obvious ways, some more mysterious.

Become immersed in the roaring twenties. It’s the period of flappers, speakeasies, feather boas, and the Charleston. It’s the oyster’s earring!

I was reminded of several old Irish Folk tales in the stories told.
