She saw a simple computer program used to ram a battlecruiser into a space station, killing millions. Then she saw her own government develop a weapon capable of genocide on an even greater scale.
Her military career is over, but Tessa still has a mission: to ensure that weapons like that can never be used again.
#8 in the Admiral series, and as of right now the last one published.
This one is from Tessa Salmagard's point of view. She now works for the gazillionaire Drexler as his one-woman security force. The two of them, along with Diana and Sei, take it upon themselves to prevent any more biological warfare attacks by using any means necessary. They're kind of a sci-fi vigilante outfit. None of the governmental entities have proven to be trustworthy, so they take on the burden themselves. In this story, they are hunting a rumored weapon supposedly in development on an uninhabitable planet.
The four of them have such unique personalities; the author has a knack for good characterization. The dialogue- another of his strong points- was also terrific. Even Salmagard's lack of speech when she decides to ignore the advice of the other three speaks volumes.
The action sequences were more frequent than usual. Salmagard has come into her own now and has some serious fighting capabilities. In previous books she was dealing with a lot of internal issues and seemed to have a bit of a lack of confidence as a consequence. Not now, though! She certainly was kicking butt and taking names.
Salmagard is no longer part of the Evagardian military, deemed untrustworthy due to her involvement with The Admiral and all he was trying to uncover.
The peace treaty might have been signed by Evagard and Ganrea, but weapons of mass destruction on a galactic scale are still being developed behind the scenes.
So, Tessa, along with remnants of previous escapades, has gone freelance (or rogue, if Evagard finds out) , doing her best to prevent these weapons from being developed.
What she uncovers are wheels within wheels, as things explode way beyond what anyone in the team expects.
Fast paced, intense, and a complete blast to read.
Be advised you might be a bit lost if you haven't read the previous Evagardian novels (beginning with The Admiral). I highly recommend that you do read them all, although you might enjoy the novel plenty without the background.
I can't wait to see what happens next. Danker can keep cranking these out, and I will keep buying and devouring them.
