I wrote the ad to get attention. I wanted a hot topic for my paper. I needed to stand out in the crowd. A few months later, he showed up.
I may have gotten more than I bargained for. Because in my fantasy, I never thought he’d stay.
A Dark Romance, Kailee Samuels’ Beautiful Things Evil People Do, is a full length, standalone with a happily ever after. Recommended for mature readers 18+, not suitable for people sensitive on hard to read dark themes. BTEPD is about meeting challenges head on, finding fearless courage within, and embracing love wherever it may lead.
Just a girl who loves pushing boundaries in original, addictive noir/dark fiction with genre-busting elements from dark romance, romantic suspense, psychological thriller, mafia, MC, and realism. Intense, thought-provoking, edge-of-your-seat, gripping page-turners that stick with you long after the last sentence. TAT Books are the perfect escape with a delicious beverage, a box of chocolate, and plenty of tissues.
Dear Readers (Raniero Fangirls) have come to expect my emotionally crippling writing style.
Storyteller embracing diversity. Coffee addict. Mango lover. Blueberry fetishist. Sweet peach tea crazy. Red wine devout. Whiskey deviant. Tattooed & pierced. Bare feet. Sand. Sun. Collects rosaries. Fanatical organizer/cleaner/list-maker. Never sleeps. Hermit and recluse. Social media avoider. Sexy trucks, bad mofo alphas, hot ink, loud music, long nails, and good football. Brisket is a birthright, y’all. Being in the water is a good thing—mermaid in a former life.
I worship everyone who reads one of my books, whether they enjoy it or not, and firmly believe they should all wear a crown.
I was not expecting what was within these pages. If you enjoy dark, depraved with the perfect balance of romance and sordid moments, you want this immediately. All the stars for the uniqueness of this story and the author's audacity to go there...
I didn’t want to be a submissive, sexual slave, or bottom because those all required some form of communication and consent. I wanted a thoroughbred of a real monster. I didn’t want the choice.
Beautiful Things Evil People Do is the story of a young woman's yearning to find the perfect man that will fulfil her darkest desire. But be warned its ravishment (rape fantasy). What starts as an advert posted on the dark web, becomes a journey of enlightenment for two very damaged individuals.
In saving her, I redeem myself. If I lose her, I am done. Hit it and quit it.
Abigail believes that she craves the darkness and all that it encompasses, although a much older Jynx knows what the fallout of these desires can bring. Intercepting her ad, it's now his mission to give her what she needs in a safe environment. However, in these circumstances, there is no avoiding the ugliness before love.
“But you’re still a brat. My fucking beguiling brat.” I want her in my bed. I want her on my dick. I want my collar on her neck. But most of all, I want the responsibility of keeping her happy.
Now I completely get that this book is for the minority or just us curious folk, yet it didn't unravel as I expected it to. It was delightfully wicked (as you'd imagine), provocative, but also a love story between two people who were opposed to love.
I’m falling in love with you, Jynx Monroe.
I will be your first and last in everything, Abigail Maines.
Is that a promise?
Absofuckinglutely.
This was a complex story about two extremely deviant people that rocked my world. Considering their sexual preferences is not up for discussion in polite company, it made sense that they’d find each other this way. Go in with an open mind and you may just love and appreciate this as much as I did.
Each time I open one of Kailee Samuels' story, I like to go in totally blind, and I hope you'll do the same than me. With such tiltle, Beautiful Things Evil People Do, my curiosity was piqued right away, and my mind went into overdrive with the anticipation.
From cover to cover Jynx and Echo's story captivated me. It felt so easy to get immersed into the intense atmosphere. I felt I could wander into Jynx' property. Scene after scene, the author kept painting these striking visuals where the emotions were as powerful as the delightful decors.
Echo and her guilty fantasies take the reader on a bumpy journey. KRS explored a wide range of emotions, building a tale as raw as sweet, as playful as deliciously erotic, always with the outmost justesse.
The dueling emotions Echo experienced felt palpable. Under Jynx' patience and Dominance, the young woman revealed herself. Their chemistry was undeniable. I absolutely loved their intimacy. The age gap had me fan myself.
“Stop running, Echo. [...]All you’re doing is running in circles, listening to the reverberations of your echo. Stop. Running.”
Echo and Jynx blur the lines, you will find no labels to put on things. BEAUTIFUL THINGS EVIL PEOPLE DO definitely lives to its title. Letting go of the preconceived ideas never felt so good. Open your mind and you'll be surprised by the direction the storyline takes.
This story shows that it's okay to be different, to have desires, that even scarred and fighting your demons, you can find someone. An equilibrium and acceptance.
"Her body serves as the chalice and the bread— the communion in my kink. She is the hallucinogen holding the rigors— the craving of my habit.
Breathless and a bit disheveled, I turned the last page, feeling good and with a huge smile on my face. Thanks to their heartfelt story, Jynx and Echo became one of my favorite couple. I hope we will have more of them in the future.
BR with my favorite Italian woman... Cheers, Vera!🥂
Two wrongs don’t make a right. Isn’t that how the saying goes? In this case I have to disagree. Jynx and Echo couldn’t have been more perfect for each other.
Jynx 37, recently discovered the ad Echo (22) published online looking for a rapist. Someone to do her good and not ask for permission.
Jynx then proceeds to try to “retrain” echo and try to convince her to take the ad down. I loved every minute of this book. A definite re read.
“Bubbly-and-spry-fifteen years my junior-can’t get enough of this girl ransacked my world, unapologetically stole my heart, and captivated every ounce of my attention.”
I took my time savoring this and I’m so happy I did! Some books just know how to take a piece of your soul with them!
A journey into love and its many shades. A story of growth, acceptance and redemption.
Echo is a small spitfire of a young woman. I instantly clicked with her. I like her personality, her strength. She embarks on a path of self discovery, she’s young, she needs to learn her lessons. She’ll find out that sometimes the answers we so desperately seek to our questions aren’t what we hoped or wanted, but that’s life teaching us how to navigate through the storm. Hang in there Echo you’re made of steel.
Jynx handsome, mature, charming, one look at him and you drool like a kid in front of the candy store. Yet, you know what they say about danger and beautiful people... they’re a deadly combination, as if that warning could really help us ladies to hold onto our panties... anyway I digress, Jynx is a 38 old year man, he knows what he is, what he wants, what he’s made of, surely little angelic Echo won’t rattle him...
BTEPD will show you that love can save you but it can also wreck you, in fact, not everyone needs saving, some needs destruction, chaos, devastation in order to find themselves, for them to be whole they need to be broken.
You’re the beautiful light, full of goodness to my ugly, darkened evil. You balance me...
How dark is this dark romance? Like the author brilliantly puts it warnings are like cups of tea however my advise to you is, don’t fear the darkness, this story it’s not a black hole, the author is there to hold your hand with a cup of tea 😉 she may forget the sugar but Jynx is one hell of a cookie so who cares 😝
The story is told in dual POV narrated in the present with flashbacks to the past giving full knowledge of the characters lives and experiences. The chemistry between Echo and Jynx is palpable, I would have liked more details in some scenes, and less push and pull in some areas, the slow burn is intense but at times tad OTT. Some things veered way too off the realm of reality but still worked. Overall this was a nice adventure despite some scattered cliches. I appreciated how although there are linked characters from this author’s world the book still stood alone. If in doubt be assured this is a standalone and can be read and enjoyed as such.
***ARC given in exchange for an honest review ***
B/FR with my French bestie Mimi 🥂thank you for another great journey 💕
Hot, dirty, raw, and full of grit. It’s unexpected, pushing boundaries and limits while making you sweat. Riveting story with unexpected turns all the while leaving you craving the next page.
Phenomenal! That is what this story is,phenomenal! I would highly recommend not reading anything with spoilers or that will give anything away. You’ve got the blurb and that’s all you need. Let the story unfold the way the author intended it to. Let the twists and turns stun you. And the unpredictability of it take your breath away.
Jynx and Echo are very complex very multilayered multifaceted people. They are smart and intelligent. Both are capable individuals. That have full lives. Outwardly all looks perfect. Echo and Jynx haven’t had the best of upbringings. Each have suffered tremendously. So when part of your psyche contains cracks and some breaks it manifests one way or another. “As much as he wants to correct my frame of mind,I want to heal his bleeding heart.” But the question is can two people who’s actions and reactions to situations which “aren’t the norm” fix each other? Or will it lead them both further down the rabbit hole?
I absolutely loved Jynx. That man is one of the most complicated characters I’ve come across. He’s light and dark He’s good and bad. He’s big hearted yet will do unthinkable things. Jynx is a mixed bag of colors and shades and you never knew what you’ll get at any given time. “Beautiful things evil people do. Evil things beautiful people do.”
I adored Echo at the start of BTEPD. She’s extremely intelligent. She’s a hard worker. She’s funny and fun to be around. Then maybe in the middle of the book I started to get upset with her. I could not figure out why she was doing what she was doing. And that annoyed the hell at of me. That all changed as more of her story starts to be revealed. Once the pieces start to come together and more the picture is seen. I was in absolute awe of her. Her strength of will and spirit is incredible! Omg she stunned me! A lesser person would have undoubtedly crumbled and turned to dust.
The journey of Echo and Jynz is dark. It’s intense and gripping. It’s raw and powerful. But it’s also captivating and riveting. Filled with passion and lust. It’s sexy and sensual. It’s dirty and wild. It’s a perfect blend of extreme and laid back. “Light and dark...Good and evil. Beautiful and ugly. We cannot have one without the other.”
Ms. Samuels is a brilliant storyteller. Her writing is like no other. She is a genus at putting words together. And turning them into poetry in motion. Her writing takes my breath away. They are beautiful and magical. I would love to delve into her mind and see how it works. This superb author delivers storylines that are unpredictable and truly unforgettable! How she fits the pieces of the intricate puzzle of her plots together so seemingly is astonishing! Because there is nothing simply about them. They are complex and elaborate. Standing ovation to you Ms. Samuels you have delivered a remarkable book! 👏🏻👏🏻
Meet Jynx and Echo. Neither of them is interested in a relationship. Both are carrying burdens from the past and the weight of their family's expectations. Can broken people help heal each other, or is it just an implosion waiting to happen?
“I inherited sadness from my mother.”- This resonated with me because there are millions of people that suffer from depression. Some can’t tell you why they feel bad, they just do. Echo is a runner, something I know well. It’s much easier to leave and protect what little thread you’re holding onto. It’s easier to push people away, keep your circle small, and forge through.
I loved how this couple ties into the world that Kailee has created. I hope other reviewers leave their reviews as vague as I have. You need to go into reading this as blind as possible. You need to let the gifts Kailee has given in the writing wash over you as they come. Dark, romantic, and unapologetic, it's a fantastic read.
When someone recc’d this book it was on the basis that Jinx, the hero was ott j/p. I went in blind and didn’t know what I was getting .
The writing jumped from scene to scene and it didn’t transition smoothly. It faded to black in several scenes. The characters were past nuts.
Be prepared for some kinks and fetishes. Jinx is a dom who likes water sports or to be urinated on. Ewww . Not for me.
Echo was just a strange girl . She was a 22 year old virgin who places an ad on the dark web. She wants to be raped. Not ravishment play . Raped and no names , the person disappears and she never wants to see them again .
Jinx and her are too crazy for anyone else. I don’t want to give it all away and to be honest I couldn’t get past 40% when Abby told Jinx her father was a biker. It was totally out of the blue.
I just couldn’t keep up with this story . It made my head spin and the characters were weird . Abby cried a ton and would whine . Why won’t it you rape me? I mean she acted like a desperate spoiled kid. I just can’t say anything more .
If asked, I'd be hard pressed to say whether I liked this book or loved it. Don't let this distract you.
For me I think the S/M aspect of the story, not being my particular kink, draws my attention away a bit. That said however, it does not detract from the unique and beautifully written journey for Echo and Jynx. (Cool names)
Some readers will want to turn away after the premise is revealed in the first chapter, I would encourage again that, lest you miss the brilliance of the messages beneath the dark deeds. And there are dark deeds aplenty.
Packed full of cringe-worthy moments, and a certain 22 year old that I wanted to beat into submission myself, I closed the cover on this one, delighted that the author portrayed her and her reactions/emotions exactly the way I would imagine a young, inexperienced woman to behave. Kudos for keeping it real ! Jynx was a very patient man ;o)
This one is promoted as a standalone, and it is. While it is loosely tied to some of the author's other long time characters, it is a fine starting point if this author is new to you.
So did I like it or love it? Yes....I think I did. I appreciate an author willing to push the envelope to get readers talking. This one is unique and discussion worthy, so I say if a little pain is your love language, have at it...go get your kink on!
Let me say at the outset of this review that I am a fan girl of Kailee Reese Samuels and have been for a while now. I was introduced to her books through my love for the sigh-worthy hero named Sal Reniero from the Tomb of Ashen Tears series (TAT books), and I’ve been hooked ever since. Please know that I’m an avid reader (have been for years now), and I don’t impress easily. So, take me seriously when I tell you that Ms. Samuels writes really well-written, engaging, interesting and unique books. This newest addition to her work ranks high in this regard.
This is the story of Jynx and Echo, two incredibly individual characters who simply do not fit into a typical model of romance Hero and Heroine. I do not discuss plot in my reviews; in my mind the blurb reveals as much as the reader needs to know at the outset. I want the story to unfold as it should because Kailee R. Samuels is so very adept at peeling away layers of self, eventually revealing the inner depth of those people who inhabit her fictional worlds.
I was completely caught up in this story. I had to leave it occasionally to care for family but as soon as I could I was back into its pages. I was thrilled, shocked, saddened and gladdened. This is what Kailee does to her readers. She makes us FEEL. Her words will run through your mind for hours to days after finishing her book. You’ll think about the events and the characters long after the story has ended.
Like I said, I’m a fan girl, but I am by no means a simple one. If I recommend a book, that book moved and intrigued me on many different levels. I highly recommend this latest story. Of course I do. It was written by KRS.
It's what got my attention in the first place. If I knew the genre, I would probably never pick this book up. Why? Simple, I enjoy other genres more. And that is why I'm glad I have listened to my six sence and have indeed reached for it.
Beautiful Things Evil People Do is not an easy read. In my opinion it is complexed, dark and extremely multilayered. Pretty much like it's main character Jynx. I liked Echo, most of the time. But I loved him.
The writing is ritch and smooth.
I suggest going into Beautiful Things Evil People Do blindly. That way you'll be able to experience it to it's fullest.
This is one story I devoured and could not put down. The heck with sleep. I stayed up way too late falling in love with Jynx and Echo. The writing is superb with the author weaving a romance that is a mixture dark and sweet. Everything these characters encounter, you feel as you become immersed in their world. Do not be one to miss out on this incredible story. Make sure it’s on your must read list!!
1/5 ⭐️ 2/5 🔥 0/5 💧… I'm here because TikTok (SmutTok) sent me. I wanted to like this book because CNC is my new favorite trope. But I DNF'd at 50% and that was after a heavy amount of skimming. I just could not get into this book. The guy starts off so strong and alpha and then just dwindles. And the characters sounded like the same exact person during the narrating. I would have to stop and figure out who was talking because they both sounded the same. I almost NEVER DNF a book because I am OCD and want to know the ending but this book was not it.
With any book by Kailee Samuels I know I am going to get a well crafted, intense, emotional read which will whip me away from the humdrum and into a world populated by larger than life characters who still manage to be completely relatable. This is no mean feat, yet Kailee always succeeds. I finish each book breathless and delighted that I found her work so many years ago. BTEPD took me on a journey filled with heart in mouth moments with two totally memorable people, Echo and Jynx. With nods to mythology which serve to further enrich the colours which create the tapestry of this book, Kailee slowly adds layer upon layer of past events which have brought Echo and Jynx to the present day. It is a past woven with cruelty, touches of madness and unwelcome memories. Echo lives up to her nickname bouncing around within the vessel of her life, constantly hearing the still vivid reverberations of memories which send her running and making decisions which place her in jeopardy. Jynx is a Kailee man. He is made up of so many facets, prepared to face the fire to bring peace. By the end of the book, I felt that peace had been achieved and hope for the future forged out of the fires if the past, but without any doubt that these two would have a life filled with incident, arguments, love and challenge. In other words, a full life! 💖💖💖💖💖
Disclaimers: I recieved this as an ARC and I am a fan of the author.
Ok, I feel like I need to write two reviews. One for people who haven't read Kailee Reese Samuels before, and another those who have. So if you haven't read her before I would advise you to pour a glass of wine (or the whole bottle) and get comfortable, because you may not be comfortable again until the end of the book. For those who have, prepare to be shook with a full blown HEA! Echo is a young woman trying to forge her own way in the world. She doesn't want a man. But she does want a sexual encounter of the extreme variety. In search of this she posts an online ad with her requirements. Jynx is the type of guy who NEVER entertains the same woman twice and is a self proclaimed A-hole. When he learns of the ad, his better nature kicks in and it's decided he needs to step in before someone else does the unthinkable. Their worlds collide in spectacular fashion. This book if for grown folks, and I don't just mean 18+. Although a full fledged romance, it has some very dark sexual overtones that will not be suitable for everyone. So that is your fair warning. Put your big girl panties on and enjoy!
The title is so perfect for this book! I loved Echo and Jynx's story! These two were a true match, despite their age difference. Their horrible pasts shaped them into the troubled individuals they became - Echo with no regard whatsoever for her own safety, and Jynx with his reckless, dangerous life. The mangled and twisted duo.
They needed to go through their own rites of self-discovery in order to find their true selves. If only Echo could see her own sense of self worth. She was a skittish colt, always ready to break away. Could Jynx really be her knight in shining armor? I cried for the dark moments in their lives, and cheered for those moments of love and clarity that shone bright like beacons. It was also wonderful to see glimpses of my favorites, Sal and Deacon, from Kailee's other books.
This was a standalone unlike the Sal books, and it was brilliant, sexy hot, and fantastically done! It drew out my emotions like crazy! Bravo!
Kailee Samuels is not a writer who's characters lay flat on the page. Beautiful Things Evil People Do (BTEPD) will jump off the page and drag you into their world. Jynx and Echo are meant for each other, despite the difference in life experiences they are one. Echo is trying to out run her brutal past and puts her life in danger. Jynx was just supposed to hack into her computer and take her disturbing ad down to save her from herself. He didn't want to fall in love and she wasn't looking for anything real. They both have to face their pasts to make their future work. Kailee doesn't shy away from sensitive topics and for me that is a breath of fresh air. You will love, hate, cry, be uncomfortable and laugh. Her books will take you through all the emotions and you will love the characters. You become part of their world and lives and can't wait to see what they are up to in each and every book.
Jynx and Echo....not the usual love story. And yes, I am calling it a love story, we all define them differently.
Echo writes an ad looking for something unconventional. Jynx answers the ad. What begins after that is the start of a relationship between two people that need exactly what the other has to offer.
I enjoyed reading this love story unfold and walking through each stage with this couple until they reached their HEA.
Total newb to Kailee Samuels and let me tell you how she grabbed me from page one and I knew I would need to go back and read her other books.
Jynx and Echo. He knows himself. Confident. Dominant. Deadly. A filthy gentleman. She's young. Beautiful. Broken. She's looking for something and even though she thinks she knows what that is, she has no idea. She writes an ad on the dark web thinking she will get what she wants.
He finds her. He thinks he's going to help her. But she becomes his game changer.
And I literally fell in love with every aspect of this beautiful, mouth-watering story. And that is exactly what their journey is.... mouth-watering. She falls, he drags her back from the pit like a savior only to further corrupt her.
She pushes, he pulls. She runs. He waits.
Jynx is a delicious combination of Sal and Deacon from Ms. Kailee's TAT series. And though this is a standalone, one can only hope for more of Jynx and Echo's drool worthy story to be written. You will NEVER be disappointed by Ms. Kailee's words. Dive in. Enjoy. Be open. It's a game changer.
I wanted to like this so much more than I did. It just never really got there for me. It’s not terrible but it’s not good either. Of course, it’s all subjective and this is merely my opinion. It has a bunch of good reviews but alas it didn’t work for me. On story and content, this is more of a 2 star but the author is definitely talented and what is here is written with skill. There’s not a bunch of grammatical or spelling errors. However, this authors style isn’t for me and that’s ok.
I would posit that this book could have used editing in the sense that this story meanders. A lot. All over the place. It’s like it couldn’t quite decide what it wanted to be so it decided to be all the things. There’s so much of this story that could have been deleted without losing the plot. It’s boring. What could have been a powerful story gets lost in all the boring.
There are lots of shocking, dark elements in here but I wouldn’t call this story particularly dark. I read a lot of dark romance so maybe I don’t have the best barometer for this scale. Echo places an ad looking for a rapist. She wants to be raped because reasons. It’s a bit convoluted and over complicated in the end but enter the H - Jynx.
Jynx kidnaps her to save her from herself. Jynx isn’t a good guy though. He’s got 99 problems and Echo is just one of them. It’s gets very angsty and frustrating in a very unfun way. It’s the type of angst that doesn’t belong in dark romance. I will die on this hill. I’ve only ever encountered one other dark romance that contained this particular brand of angst and it was one of the worst books I’ve ever read.
The angst in question? If you read romance you’ve read it a thousand times over. It’s the easiest angst to write and the most soul sucking. Constant back and forth. One page - don’t fall in love with me this is just til the end of the summer. Next page - I love you and I’ll never let you go. Next page - this can never work between us. Next page - you are my soulmate, my perfect match, the reason I exist. Next page - I’ll never be good enough for you, this isn’t meant to be. I’ll break you. Next page - you can never leave me again there is nothing without you. And on and on and on and on. Over and over and over. Page after page. Back and forth. Back and forth, in adfinitum. No, thank you.
Story 2/5, Spice 3/5, Darkness 1.5/5, Angst 5/5
Slow burn, they bang at 70%. Well they sort of start to have sex at 59%. There’s even penetration. “He thrusts into my hollow puddle” - seriously I had to read the paragraph 3 times to understand what was happening. Never heard it called a hollow puddle before. They don’t complete the deed at 59%. They implode, tearful revelations and accusations. All very angsty and frustrating. There is sexual activity - including anal- long before 70% but it’s all very brief, frustrating and unsatisfying. You’ll see what I mean, if you read it.
No condoms, virgin h, manwhore H, consensual non-consent, scenes that border dub-con/non-con, anal, spankings, whipping, caning, watersports, shibari, knife play, humiliation, degradation, name calling, no sexual sharing but the shibari is done by another person and she’s caned by another dom in a revelatory, traumatic scene, push away from both, very slight OW drama, no OM drama, multiple fights, breakups and separations - it’s exhausting.
Safety readers - on our introduction to Jynx he goes to a BDSM club and whips a random girl - no sex. He talks slot about banging all the faceless, nameless women. He doesn’t cheat on her. Though he has a bump and grind dance with a bimbo while she’s being caned by the very talkative mob dom. She sees him and runs away for the zillionth time.
No cheating but I wouldn’t call this book safe, if you need that in your books.
No cheating, no cliffhanger and HEA.
- side rant -
***This story DOES have an HEA.***There’s an author note at the end where she talks about writing dark romance and not every story needing a HEA and that she believes dark and romance need to be separated. Dark + romance.
I recognize that most of the dark romances I love shouldn’t have HEAs realistically. The situations are unhealthy, the relationships can be toxic. You see readers who’ve unwittingly stumbled into the book not knowing what they were going to read ranting about abuse, rape and misogyny in the reviews. Clearly, the book wasn’t meant for those readers. It was meant for readers like me who love to read this sort of stuff. I don’t read books for realism. I suspect very few people do.
Life *isn’t* all sunshine and unicorns puking rainbows. However romance novels will ALWAYS have an HEA. That is what makes them romance novels.
If you want to write a DARK FICTION story that contains some romance but doesn’t have an HEA then that’s what it is. Dark fiction with romance but if you call it a romance novel and market it that way - you are a liar and you are misleading your readers. Writing a dark story with romance in it - even as a main component - and ending without an HEA doesn’t invalidate the romance in the story but it does mean it’s not a romance novel. Having an H or h die doesn’t invalidate the romance but it does mean it’s not a romance novel - it’s a tragic love story with a sad ending - not a romance novel.
By all means, write the kind of stories you want but don’t lie to your readers, if you write a book that doesn’t have an HEA don’t have the audacity to pretend it’s a romance novel.
I want to first say, I am a fan of Kailee's other books, particularly the TAT books. I went into this book knowing her style, and knowing that this was "different" from her previous works. She did not lie. This story was wonderfully written (as all of her books are), reminds me of her TAT world, yet was a completely different take. And I LOVED IT. Kailee takes her time with her characters and provides us with the most beautifully broken people in Jynx and Echo. I refuse to reveal any plot for this story. Go in blind. Enjoy this masterfully written journey of Jynx and Echo. Your heart and mind with thank you.
A warning, Kailee never holds back. She shows the good and bad and absolute depravity in her characters. But if you dare to take the journey, you will not be disappointed.
This one ticks all the boxes Age gap, standalone, captive romance, dark and HEA.
Meet Jynx I wasn’t a killer. I was a stalker. Problem? I ain’t got one.
Run far away, girl! Don’t grin at me. Don’t taunt the wicked.
One very bad man is considering doing something horrifically vile to save you.
I absolutely adore Jynx and Echo! Both know what they want. Echo just doesn’t know how to get there, so she does the unthinkable. An ad posted to the dark web. Together Jynx and Echo over come many things, as well as some they never seen coming. Settle in with this very special couple as they tell there story. You won’t be sorry!
This book is a beautifully written, age gap, captive, dark romance with such a unique plot and I devoured each page with a voracious hunger. Every now and then a book comes along that is refreshingly different and surprising that you keep thinking about it for days. Beautiful Things Evil People Do was that book for me. I fell in love with Jynx and Echo, two kindred spirits both burdened by ghosts from the past and stumbling through life. This book is unpredictable with so many gritty twists and turns that I don’t want to even hint at in this review. This book made me laugh, cry, overheat, growl and think. This is a powerful, five star story that must be read.
Echo is a young, beautiful woman who doesn't know her own worth. She doesn't care about her own safety. All she wants a filthy f*cking gentleman with no relationship. Exploring the dark web she places an ad. Loved Echo's first ad! Couldn't stop laughing! Jynx is a dangerous dominant. Hit it once and done. "...I plug in, play and move on." Epic!! Definitely a player quote! Jynx sees Echo's ad and decides to stalk her to find out what makes her tick. Little did he know that the rules of the game were about to change. Kailee has a unique talent with her poetic words that will captivate you with her stories. You feel the emotions of the characters as she plays with your heart and mind. I started this journey with Sal and his stories (SOS and TAT series). Never once have I been disappointed. If you like dark + romance and a good dose of k*nk you will definitely enjoy Kailee's masterpieces!
The first few chapters were interesting and a little bit unpredictable and that was good. I really wanted to like it but when it became a struggle, I stopped at 50% but since I did read halfway, I still wanted to know what happened so I skimmed it and at 80% read a few pages and read a few at 95% and the ending.
So I can’t really rate this. Although I have to say the author loves purple prose so much and unfortunately the sex scenes weren’t sexy for me.
I don't want to ruin this story or rewrite the blurb So I will give you a scene that I believe outlines the story well
"I stalked, drugged, and abducted you. What part of that screams a healthy relationship? I am toxic. We are toxic." - Jynx "I want to be intoxicated" - Echo
This, for me, was the sweetest romance. It wasn't just about finding your soul mate and falling in love it was also about dealing with all those pesky bones hiding in the closest. Facing your fears and deciding if you want to live your life by your definition of happy or someone else's definition of happy - Takes a lot to stand against the tide but it is always easier with someone you trust at your back
"Life bends. We sway. We can choose to flow through the obstacles or fight against one another in the challenges. "
I would have disagreed with Jynx regarding Echo - after the 3rd time I would have walked away - I am glad he was more patient than me because he was right. Echo is full of life and she was worth holding on to. She is young but she is quick to catch on and put things together. Her mind is constantly spinning and I think that was part of her problem (that and her past demons) the reason why she couldn't move past the blockage her past had created Jynx is older and not quite who we think he is - sooooo not spoiling that surprise but as the secrets slowly unravel let's just say I was like a kid in a candy shop - He has his own demons but he is also the absolutely sweetest sadist. Quite aware of the contradiction but wait till you meet the two halves that make up the whole. Their journey? The pitfalls that come with how they met. The links to the present they are both unaware of. The raw desire they both have for the other. It was a perfect mess.
"we're in a constant state of metamorphosis, changing and evolving, do not hinder what is meant to be."
If you have a problem with the darker side of BDSM, the psychological as well as the physical, this is not going to be the book for you. Echo is a masochist and one of her kinks is being the victim. Our older and quite devilishly handsome male lead is a Sadist and he also has a few darker kinks. Both are adults and quite capable of deciding what rocks their world. If you are okay with that then I highly suggest you find a quiet place and just enjoy the beauty of their obsessions as it truly is something to behold
Wow! What can I say! This book is Pure Pleasure. Dirty. Decadent. Provocative. Scintillating—pretty much sums up my review. This book...this dark, edgy, guttural with gritty issues romance lulled me into a false sense of security. I was flabbergasted with the unexpected revelations that happened, but it is jaw-dropping good! Twisted from start to finish and filled with shock, gasps, adrenaline and abundance of dark holy hotness! I was glued to the pages of this captivating story, and it will be hard to put this down once you get started.
This book is flawlessly and poignantly written about Jynx and Echo’s story. This is an intoxicating tale of two people finding acquiescence within themselves and with one another. Echo is a young beautiful woman who does not fear her safety, but she knows what she wants—no relationship for sure. For her final research paper, she wanted to try something different by being open minded—no preconceived judgment—so she posted a sexual ad. Jynx is an enigma of a man who is sexy as hell, arrogant, impenetrable, hard, controlling, and he gets what he wants—right now, he wants Echo. Jynx responds to Echo’s ad. Jynx and Echo consumed me with their intensity! Their chemistry is so alluring and mesmerizing, binding them to one another perfectly. How far would you go for the one you loved? Find out what happens with Jynx and Echo. You will be amazed. Kailee Samuels took me through several emotional gamuts and pushed all my buttons. I feel like I got off a crazy roller coaster ride from hell! I was enthralled from start to finish. Kailee Samuels you did it! You delivered a no holds barred dark romance that grips readers to the core as you unleash an unfiltered, powerful, intriguing, and calculating love story. I HIGHLY recommend this book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I received this free eARC novel from the author and Wildfire Marketing Solutions. This is my honest review.
The author said this is one of her happier books that she's written, and I'm very glad this was my first book by her! It's a good book to ease into her writing style and see if this author would be a good fit for your reading tastes.
I definitely enjoyed this book and seeing the two characters intensely struggle over the decisions they are faced shows how much they are growing into themselves.
There was a lot of back and forth, running from the present issues, not communicating to one another that got a bit repetitive at times. But I loved the sweet moments that occurred.
This book packs a lot of heavy messages and I think the characters were depicted well with in each issue. This was the first book like this that I've read, and I'll definitely be intrigued with more novels by this author!
Thank you to the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The title was what first attracted me. I love how the plot was planned. Love how the story went and how the story end. This is the first time I read from this author and I will totally read more from her in future ~
