High school may have been three years ago, but Claire Ackerman and Aiden Lewis know each other more than they’re willing to admit. Their past created a tie between them that neither thought they’d have to acknowledge again, and when Claire unknowingly storms into the bar Aiden frequents in their hometown of Beacon, New York, they’re both thrown off by the sudden reunion. A lot has changed since high school. Aiden is shut off from the world, and Claire has just had the rug ripped out from under hers. But even though he finds her a little uptight, and she finds him a little rude, the pair end up on a train to Florida together regardless. Claire gets on board as a way to celebrate her newfound independence, and Aiden joins because, even though he swore he’d never go back to Florida after what happened, he’s worried about the girl from high school that he could never fully forget. The two have a plan, and they have rules, but things don’t turn out how they expect. Because rules are made to be broken. And even the boldest of lines are meant to be crossed.
This is a new adult romance with the second chance romance trope between two former high school classmates, Claire and Aiden. It took me a while to get into this book, mostly because the pacing was really quick and we weren’t given the chance to get to know the leads as individuals (they take off to Florida together on the same night they run into each other). The third act breakup was due to a major miscommunication and it led to my least favourite trope ever, cheating. IMO this trope is always used so unnecessarily and it’s frustrating because the miscommunication would’ve been conflict enough without adding that element to it.
Overall, some aspects of this book were enjoyable but by the end of the story I wasn’t rooting for the couple so this book definitely didn’t do it for me.
2 stars

This book did not disappoint and I enjoyed every moment between Claire & Aiden. The blurb had created some mystery about Claire & Aiden's connection and I wanted to know so bad how their story is going to unfold. Both of them were jilted by the same kind of past, the difference was just that Aiden was closed off and Claire still had her trusting nature intact. They were polar opposites but they shared a connection since the moment they met and I loved to see them get together against all odds! Overall, I liked the writing style, the chapters were short but meaningful and I was satisfied with the pace.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review
Okay I genuinely LOVED this book!! It was so easy to read, it has short chapters that kept my attention span high😂 and it was amazing to see the characters’ development throughout the story!
Aiden and Claire had so much chemistry and also unresolved business from the past and they happen to casually meet again. Aiden is a grumpy moody 21 yo who hides a soft spot and a genuine caring and sincere personality just like Claire, who on the other hand has no trouble showing her sunshin-y personality. They both have unresolved childood trauma and a troublesome relationship with their parents that made them bond over were they were younger but didn’t eventually bring to anything at the time, things will change a few years after high school in the local bar on a random night when they decide to embark on a trip together.
This is basically a 5 stars lol, but i’m still pissed at Aiden for assuming things out of the blue and handling the whole thing by being a d**k to Claire (my baby). However i get where his trust issues come from and i know that guys my age can be quite immature so i’m gonna forgive him😂
Read this if you’d like: ☀️Grumpy x sunshine ☀️Second chance romance ☀️Sudden trip to Florida ☀️Open door romance (one 🌶 scene)
Overall I definitely recommend this book, especially if you’re having a bad reading month like me and need a lovely romance book that keeps you glued to the pages!!❤️
Also i love the cover, i just wish that Claire had her green sundress on!!😍💚
Thanks a lot to the author, NetGalley and the editor for a free earc in exchange for an honest review!!
Tropes: second chance grumpy x sunshine open door romance (one steamy scene🌶)
I really enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting! There was so much attraction between Claire and Aiden what made it easy to read. The close friendgroup was a fun addition and I would love to read more about the side charachters in another book.
I didn't like the thirth act breakup but the ending made it better.
Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A charming and fun read that I definitely recommend for those that enjoy slow burn romances and character driven stories.
Claire and Aiden haven't seen each other since high school. A chance encounter in a hometown bar reunites the two, sending them on an adventure they never saw coming. Aiden is grumpy, guarded and closed off due to his past, and Claire's very recent breakup has left her upset and looking for freedom and spontaneity she's never had before. Claire's impulsive overnight trip to Florida has Aiden concerned and as much as he doesnt want to revisit his past he cant resist following her along. This train ride pushes them together and sets them on a course of revisiting past tramas, self-insight, growth and a bit of romance too!
Crossing the Line was a delightful slow burn romance with a character driven plot and themes focusing on overcoming the past. Both Aiden and Claire have past relationship trauma that fuel the internal struggles and desires for these two characters throughout the book. It was nice seeing the characters grow to overcome their traumas and how strong they each were by the end of the novel.
The story is medium paced and there was never a section that felt slow or drawn out. Chapters are short and switch between each of the main characters' point of view so you get insight into their thoughts. I particularly like this type of storytelling as I find that it draws me more into the story and makes me want to keep reading to find out what happens next or what each character is thinking.
Overall, this novel is a quick and easy read that has some interesting internal struggles for both of the main characters. The slow burn is done well and isn't so slow that you get frustrated that the characters aren't together yet. The semi-spicy scenes were a nice touch as well that I feel adds the spice elements people want in a romance novel without taking away from the character development.
Themes: slow burn, grumpy/sunshine, overcoming the past to move forward
Story Elements: character driven plot, dual POV
Thank you NetGalley and Tuskan Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I found this little beauty on NetGalley and knew I just had to request a copy, it sounded like my favourite kind of read and it was, it really was. I loved it.
Claire and Aiden’s story was a great one to read.
After finding her boyfriend cheating on her Claire enters a bar and stumbles upon a guy that she used to know, a guy that cause her pain when she was younger. After talking to said guy she decided she need to do something so set about a plan to go to Florida.
Aiden doesn’t like not being busy so in his spare times he’s at the bar with his friend or sleeping with his random hookups. After getting stood up by his friend he’s at a bar alone until someone from his past stumbles into the bar. After talking for a while and hearing her plans he couldn’t possibly let a drunken woman he used to know go alone even if she caused him pain in the past so he decided to go to the one place he hates the most, Florida.
The ride there and their time there is interesting. They’re getting to know each other, finding out things they didn’t know, becoming closer and realising what the other person is all about.
But not everything goes perfectly, when a few texts get mistaken harsh words are spoken and it’s has them both running.
It’s been captivating seeing how their story would play out. I have to admit my heart simply hurt for each of them, I was rooting for them, hoping for them.
All in all it’s been great reading this book and now I just want more. I’m hoping this author has more from the other characters coming because that would be fabulous.
I loved every moment of this. There weren’t any dull, boring moments whatsoever. Aiden is incredibly funny and I couldn’t stop relating to him and laughing at literally anything and everything he had to say. We also see a growth to Claire that makes us aww at how far she’s come. Lots of up and down, but delivered in the best way possible. It seriously makes you crave a 30hour train ride to Florida just to see what can happen. (Review will be up on bookstagram on the 6th December)
Going into this book, I'm looking for something new. I think I was already at my peak of reading the usual tropes I love like enemies-to-lovers and was just at a point I still want to read romance but different trope. And this book was spot on.
Claire and Aiden knew each other from high school. One night they met again in a bar. Claire having the worst day of her life while it was a typical night for Aiden. Though caught by surprise seeing each other after a long time, the pull is there to know how life has been for both of them. Claire wants to be spontaneous; she wants to leave the city and go somewhere sunny - like Florida. By train. Alone. Meanwhile Florida is the last place Aiden wants to go, ever. But he cannot let Claire travel alone. The next thing he knew, he is on a train with Claire going to Florida.
While reading the book, I remember the movie Before Sunrise. It has the same vibe, just two people talking about anything under the sun the whole trip. I like the characters - the contrast and similarity of them. Both characters have difficulty trusting people, letting people in, but I guess the connection between them lies on the experience they both had with their parents.
I like the sexual/love tension build up. It's kind of slow burn as Aiden wants to be sure Claire is ready for a relationship before he gives in on the attraction he has for Claire. My heart is happy on the romance department.
I think what could have been better was the conflict. Maybe Claire's conflict is a bit flat for me, I want more drama. Aiden's backstory is better.
Over-all, I totally enjoyed the book. It has romance, good conversations, great writing. If you're like me who loves to read romance but somehow wants to take a break from the usual tropes, I recommend this book.
✨️ TROPES/NOTES: • second chance romance • grump x sunshine w cute banter • sweet sweet slowburn ❤️🔥 • open door romance ( 1-2 🌶 scene) • good story pace! • dual pov
Crossing the line was incredible! It was freaking amazing from start to finish. We open up on Aiden and first chapter in I was pretty much enjoying it and then quickly got hooked so much so that I finished this in one sitting! It was that good and has now become a favorite of mine. It needs to be adapted into a movie.
It will leave you squealing, anticipating, loving, cheering and fully enjoying their story. Aiden and Claire are everything! I definitely recommend reading this. The tension and chemistry will have your heart thumping in a good swoony way. The alternating povs and the transitions back and forth between the two characters was gripping and well executed.
The author definitely knows when to weave in and out of a characters pov and into the next ones. The shifts were pulled in beautifully and didn't feel spotty instead seamless. A great read that delivers with feels + a solid plot and set of characters. I will be looking forward to future books from this author esp becos this was my first read of hers and she's now one of my fav authors!
I met Heather at an author event yesterday and to be honest I was worried. I’ve never read the book of someone I’ve actually met and I was like “oh shit what happens if I don’t like it?” 😂
But I LOVED IT! I wasn’t planning on starting it until tomorrow. I picked it up to read a couple chapters today and ended up not putting it down until I got to the end. It was such a cute, easy read. I love that it wasn’t just dual POV but it switched POV even in the middle of conversations sometimes and I really enjoyed that!
I don’t think it NEEDED the epilogue, but there’s nothing wrong with it! I was just satisfied with the ending how it was! My only real complaint is I could have read an extra hundred pages about Aiden and Claire! I typically read 450 page books for that reason - I love getting to the know the characters deeper. But with the pages there were, I love what Heather did with the characters and the story. I loved how many little things kept showing up and running throughout the book, and the few little things that came full circle!
There’s only one full sex scene which usually isn’t enough for me but I enjoyed the story enough that it didn’t bother me!
thank you to netgalley & Heather Garvin for an arc copy of this book!
I. Am. In. Love. I was instantly sucked into this story; Aiden captivated me from the first page and I literally couldn’t stop reading, I read this in a day 😂. The switching POV’s really keeps you wanting to read more and I did like the short chapters.
I love how real they are and that there is considerations about what they should do considering the timing. I also love the real take on relationships, when you’re in it you don’t always see the things that don’t work until it’s over. Both Aiden & Claire see that they can be so much better together even through any ups and downs thrown at them.
I loved the spice too, not a crazy amount but was so well done and I was left wanting more! Their chemistry 🥵 even from their first meet at the bar and then impulsively deciding to go together to Florida was off the charts. I particularly love the first bar scene when Aiden was getting jealous and they finally kiss and everything after.
I would 100% recommend this to people and would definitely read again

I’ve been excited for this book since I saw the author teasing she was writing a contemporary romance. This book was so good! Slow burn, nice sprinkle of spice, third act break up (that had me speeding through the chapters to get to the makeup), and grumpy/sunshine. The writing was very good & my favorite part was the short chapters. Something about short chapters make the read that much easier for me.
If I had more time in a day, I would have had this book done in 24 hours easily. I miss Aiden & Claire already 🥲
So thrilled to get this book as an ARC. I can’t wait to get a physical copy for my bookshelf.
THIS BOOK!!! I was so lucky to receive this as an ARC and I was unable to put it down. Slow burn, grumpy/sunshine and some spice? SIGN ME UP! Alternating POV and the tension... I did not want this book to end. Aidan may be my new favorite book BF.
I want to give a big thank you to Heather Garvin for allowing me the opportunity to read this book early.
Oh my gosh! I have been a fan of Garvin's since reading Take What You Can and falling for #Frederick. It's been too long since she's released a book, so when I the chance to read the ARC of this one came, I jumped at it! This is such a great love story! For real. Fans of slow-burn, slow to trust, slow to act, moody boys will love this book! It made me fall in love, hold my breath, bounce on the edge of my seat and laugh out loud. The perfect ingredients to a contemporary romance! Because none of us want "A walking department store ad from hell" as a boyfriend because we all know most of hose guys only care about outward appearances Guys who are moody and make us feel as if we are navigating through "rip currents and sharp rocks" may intimidate us but when given the chance men like this, men like Aiden with a hard exterior can surprise us, releasing those dreaded stomach flutters. Men like Aiden make us trust the butterflies. Men like Aiden make us feel like we're home. There should be more men like Aiden, rough around the edges with a warm center who challenge us to take that "next great adventure". Also, those bedroom scenes were more than sigh worthy! Great job Garvin! I am forever a fan and will add #AidenForever to my book boyfriend shelf alongside #Frederick my first, but obviously not last, book love!
You all know I’m a sucker for grumpy/sunshine romances, especially ones that sprinkle second chance with a side of moody bad boy in there. And my girl Heather Garvin knocked it out of the park with this one.
I fell for Claire & Aiden’s story right off the bat, from the very first page. Heather is a wizard when it comes to writing morally grey, moody male MCs that you can’t help but swoon over. The short chapters and alternating POVs makes this one incredibly bingeable. And let’s not forget about the banter between the two, along with the tension & the steam. *chef’s kiss*. Seriously, I loved it! The only negative I can honestly say about this story was that I didn’t want it to end. I needed to keep reading more and more about Claire & Aiden’s story and where life would take them! 5 ⭐️s
A HUGE thank you to Heather Garvin for allowing me to be a part of everything! You all don’t want to miss Crossing the Line! Check it out on it’s pub date 12/6.
Crossing the line I read on a whim off NetGalley the day I signed up. I have been interested in getting into reading more though noting catches my attention enough to stick to reading. After the first 2 minutes of reading this book I was hooked. Every page every word had me needing to know more. I loved both Claire and Aiden both past acquaintances from high school who had slight feelings for each other who eventually meet again under negative circumstances. There adventure together in this book kept me itching for more and loving this book more and more with every word and ever page turn. I love this authors style of writing and adored the back and forward chapters of Aiden and Claire in First person narration. I hope for a second book in the future as I need to see Claire and Aiden get married.
Very spur of the moment adventure loved it! Claire and Aiden had a vulnerable moment together years ago, then ignored each other years later they bump into each other at a bar. The grumpiness of Aiden is cute, he really cares for Claire even if he doesn’t want to. Was surprised to see 90 chapters, but they ended up being very short. Could not put down, until I realized it was 3am and had 30% left. The short chapters made the story fast pace, love the side characters very encouraging to the MCs. The building relationship is very believable. Both Aiden and Claire seem to have an easy time to be vulnerable with each. The writing is great.
Thrilled to get an ARC and happy to provide my honest review! I flew through this book! I agree with another reviewer who mentioned that the dual perspective helps the book move along quickly. I really enjoyed the characters in this story and would love to know even more about some of the supporting roles. It’s an adventure with two flawed humans finding themselves with great tension built up throughout. It’s a smooth read that keeps you wanting to turn the page. If you’re looking for a fun, romance read, hop on in!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ you guys ARE NOT ready for this book!!! heather garvin you are an absolute GENIUS for putting me through all of the emotions with this story i am forgiving you to make me cry because this book is absolutely amazing!! i would just like to give a huge thanks to netgalley and victory editing for sharing this ARC with me! i really loved the grumpy x sunshine trope, it really stood out in this book which i loved and i absolutely loved the dual povs; i love reading from both sides in a book. this book is the perfect grumpy x sunshine read
I really enjoyed this book. Within the first few pages, I could tell I vibed with the author's writing style. This is a book about two characters, Claire and Aiden. Both have bitter past relationships. This is how a trip to Florida caused them both to confront their pasts (or make plans to confront their pasts), and how that trip leads to a future, potentially together.
This book is about a miscommunication trope which isn't my favorite. I was so frustrated with the characters at points. The author redeemed this trope for me by acknowledging the miscommunications. They didn't just happen and the characters move on. They owned the mistakes and put them into words and actions. I appreciate that.
I’ll start thanking NetGalley and Tuskan Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this eARC in exchange of an honest review.
I love an easy romance and this one is such a good love story. I was a little scared when I saw it was around 90 chapters but plot twist THEY ARE SHORT CHAPTERS (sometimes waaay too short tho) and the book was really fast-paced which made stop reading almost impossible. It's also a dual POV story and I usually hate dual POV but I honestly didn’t mind it here since it made me understand Aiden better.
This is a quick and easy read with a slow burn that is not so slow that you want to scream at the book; it has the spicy scenes people always request in romance books and they don’t overshadow the development of the story/characters, and the third act break up which was painful (aiden, you ass.) but thankfully (bless the short chapters) it wasn’t dragged out for too long.
It has been my first time reading something by this author and let me just say that it did not disappoint, I definitely want to read more by her (just added Take What You Can to my TBR 😉).
Absolutely freaking ADORED this story. The premise was so fresh and fun, and the connection between Aiden and Claire felt so natural despite the short timeline. Garvin’s writing is smooth and engaging, and I’m excited to see what she comes up with next!
I am genuinely so thrilled to have received this ARC. I absolutely fell head over heels in-love with this book and all its characters! I was shocked to find out that Heather Garvin only has two other books. That being said, she is definitely no amateur, her writing style was impeccable! I knew as soon as I started reading I was going to be completely hooked, and I was right, I physically could not put the book down.
Tropes: ❤ Second-chance love ❤ Grumpy/sunshine ❤ Slow burn
Claire Ackerman might just be living through one of the worst nights of her life. That probably explains why she ended up at some random bar. Having found out her boyfriend of two years has been cheating on her while she was away at college, she needs to find a way to cope. Did she think she would run into Aiden Lewis, the gorgeous mystery guy from high school? Absolutely not. Whats even crazier is, not even an hour later, they both find themselves on a spontaneous trip down the coast to Florida. Thats right, not only has Claires life been flipped upside down, but she now finds herself with the least likely travel companion, on a quest to experience true freedom for the first time, all while simultaneously trying to mend her broken heart.
Aiden Lewis, is a quiet, moody, workaholic, who certainly has a few demons of his own he needs to conquer. As much as Florida is the last place he wants to return to, it's exactly the where he needs to be in order to resolve his emotional issues. He definitely never thought that Claire Ackerman would be the one to help chase away the numbness he's felt for over a year. Even though Aiden comes off as a sarcastic asshole most of the time, he always had a soft spot for Claire.
We quickly find the two of them traversing their conflicting situations in the most suspenseful way. You can tell there's an undeniable attraction pulling the two together, it was torture watching them fight it!
Crossing the Line was written with a duel POV. It was great to get insight on just what Aiden was thinking and how much he struggled trying to do right by Claire. It was very important to him to make sure what was happening between them was real and built on healthy ground, showing just how much he really cared for her.
The amount spice was perfect! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, eagerly eating up all the drama and absolute fireworks going off between them. Talk about chemistry! Claire and Aiden are absolutely adorable together, and Aidens unfaltering support for Claire gave me warm fuzzies. He was so determined to help her and make sure she was okay, that he quite literally spent 30 hours on a train for her, not once but TWICE! If that's not swoon worthy enough for you, then I don't know what is. I loved how Claire was the only one capable of breaking down Aidens walls and making him feel alive again. Together they were able to heal and move on from their pasts by forming such a powerful connection, you cant help but envy them. They truly are the perfect match and complement each other so nicely, I couldn't have written it any better myself! I definitely plan on reading this book over and over again, totally one of my new favorites! I would highly recommend to anyone who loves contemporary romance and the listed tropes!
Thank you NetGalley and Tuskan Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! ✌
Tell me don't judge a book by its cover and I'll prove you WRONG with this 'Crossing The Line" book.
By noticing at the cover I judged this book would be something I'll go head over heels and I was absolutely right. Because it's so damn hard to come out from this book. I'm no re-read the book again and again for yet another infinity.
The very next second I saw the cover of this book I wanted to read. Just by looking at the cover I created a lot of stories for this one. Not for a fraction of a second I thought the train to Florida would be this fun and emotional.
Aiden (Male Character) I know he's grumpy but extremely caring and possesses a great amount of concern for Claire. He doesn't like vacation, he lost contact with his old friends and hardly makes long conversations. Is also closed off. Every act he did and does throughout the book is completely justified and has no loose ends.
Claire (Female Character) She's really superb smart and assumed her life would always be the same. When a person she trusted blindly in her life betrays her she's completely broken but does not allow that to impact her whole life.
Claire and Aiden already have a history together as they met in highschool. The way the others connected their past together in the present was too beautiful and the front differences also made it easy while reading.
Claire is Aiden's Lucky Charm. She takes him to Florida and makes him understand the place could still keep him happy. She also made him get back with Chad, Ethan and Em (Florida Friends) the way Violet (Claire's Roommate and friend) calls them as.
Even though Aiden hates NYC, he would make that two hours journey to meet Claire and that was just enough to show the love they had for each other.
"With you, I'll take whatever I can get"
Tropes:- Sunshine Heroine Grumpy Hero Past Emotions Slow Burn Bits of Highschool
For a slow burn book, I'm so sure I really read the book fast. I felt like the story kept moving fast as the author really connected the Dual-Povs in a great manner to make us keep moving. I was actually curious with the cliffhangers left at the ending of each chapter to move onto the next pretty fast.
I would have loved to see more of Aiden and Claire. It's just my needy heart wanting more of the couple I adored a lot.
Thanks a lot to Netgalley, Heather Garvin and Tuskan Publishing for this ARC in exchange for a genuine review.
I think I’ve been pretty lucky, getting to be part of the ARC teams of amazing writers. Heather Garvin is another of those and since the first moment I crossed with her book, I knew I would have an exceptional time. I just didn’t know how great it would be. So for that I’m doing a review now in exchange.
This is a book I will not only have in my favorite shelf but in the one of my comfort readings too. But it is that I’m weak for men like Aiden Lewis, Claire Ackerman is a lucky girl. They have a long journey, being this a story about second chances. It made me hopeful about second chances. Not all of them are bad and not because they’re a second is doomed. Well, the conditions are always important for the outcome, and at least to me, they had exceptional conditions.
It doesn’t even seem romantic, very fateful and coincidental, but not strictly romantic. It felt like an adventure, and each step an opportunity of now or never (as all opportunities really are). They did go through almost all the steps consecutively, and I was surprised at how willing they (he in special) were to talk about things. If you read the book, you will say I’m lying, I know, but I said they were willing, and they were. They really tried to do so. Because, well, misunderstandings happen, too often, and in an equally stupid way; in that we had an experience very close to reality, so close it hurts. That’s why communication is key and we not only have to be willing and try, but really make it happen to avoid outcomes like those.
Even with all that they both made me go through, I love them. I’m sorry I have favorites, but it is that Aiden Lewis… sigh. He doesn’t seem like it, but he’s worthy, especially if he’s with the love of his life (because I don’t steal other people’s men, that’s low, no matter they’re all fictional -cry-). It’s not only a figurative journey, this book. If you board this train, I’m warning you will go through all the emotions you can feel paired with love, and not only the good ones. The positive part about it is that that’s the way we grow.
Sometimes the best in life happens when you’re living the worst.
Claire Ackerman enters a bar after finding that her boyfriend was cheating on her. She made the two-hour trip from New York to the town she lived to be with him for nothing and now needs a drink or a hole to hide. Because she’s clearly having an amazing day, one of the few people present is Aiden Lewis, her high-school crush. Now she can’t even cry or get drunk at ease because someone there knows who she is.
They start talking and… get on a train to Florida! Claire decides to do whatever she feels like doing, and that is going to the beach. So, she decides to go to Florida. Since she’ll go alone, by night, Aiden goes with her for her safety. Is a train ride enough to get them close again? What will happen when they get off the train?
I enjoyed so much reading this book! It’s original and the characters and naturally flawed. They are impulsive and do stupid things but they have history and feel real. There was nothing in this story that felt forced. The stupid parts were just because the characters were simply being stupid.
I wanted to know more about Em and Ethan. They seem to be such a nice couple! Em is very intuitive, friendly, and helpful, which made me like her.
Garrett is so self-centered I was hoping Claire would throw a coffee on him. Or give him a mirror so he would go away happy. No need to wish bad things on people. Maybe one day he would understand the metaphor…
Once you lose trust in someone is very difficult to get it back. But some people are special enough to try…
You know when you see a book cover and you immediately think ‘that definitely looks like a bit of me’? This was exactly what happened with Crossing The Line. I’m a sucker for a gorgeous cover, and I can definitely say that the story matched it. Aiden and Claire knew each other from school, so when Claire storms into the bar where Aiden is sat nursing a drink, it kicks off a chain of events neither of them were expecting. Both Aiden and Claire were pretty complex characters that had both been burned in previous relationships, so they weren’t exactly eager to open up to each other. However, the more time they spent together, the more they realised that they had a pretty intense connection. I loved seeing Aiden, the ultimate grump and hater of relationships, slowly let his guard down around Claire and allowed himself to feel something other than exasperation toward her. Claire’s growth arc was a thing of beauty throughout the book; a bit of a wallflower at the start, she soon comes into her own when she realises that she deserves better. Unrequited crushes, a cross state train journey and characters you can’t help being charmed by, Crossing The Line had me hooked from beginning to end. Also, short chapters. Absolute winner for me.
THE BAD ☹️
Garret. King of gaslighting and all round nobhead. Yep, he can definitely go in the bin.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: A proper feel good grumpy sunshine romance that brought a smile to my face STEAM LEVEL: 🔥🔥 STAR RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that I wanted to read every break I had. This was one of those books and now I’m extremely excited to read more from this author. I loved the cover that’s what drew me to this book, and then reading the description just sinched it for me. So, believe me when I say, I was happy when netgally, publishers and author allowed me to review this book.
I was thoroughly entertained from the very first word till the very end. I didn’t want it to end at all. I wouldn’t even mind reading more about the other characters in the book if this became a series. Especially Violet, the roommate. Such an enigma that one and her duct tape art. Regardless this book is about Aiden and Claire. The two had a connection way back when, and it was just kismet that bought them together. The way they were reintroduced into one other’s lives was not usual, but so very memorable.
They both have tremendous trust issues, but for some reason they feel at ease with one another. Their train ride down to the beautiful sunshine state was entertaining and their experiences there was even more. I couldn’t get enough of the two of them, the slow burn until it was a marathon was simply perfect. But again, the trust issues are big with them.
I don’t want to give too much more away but this book I couldn’t put it down and would recommend it to anyone. Love this story, characters, setting and just everything in general about it.
I received a free eARC of Crossing the Line in exchange for an honest review through NetGalley.
This is the first book I've read by Heather Garvin, and I'm so glad I stumbled across her as an author. If you're looking for low 🌶 level but a good plot, then this is the book for you. Not to mention our main man is a grump.
Together, they end up on a spontaneous, cross-country train to Florida after Claire finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her. If you've ever wanted to fly (or ride off) on a spontaneous trip to feel better, then you'll connect with Claire. And if you love reading about grumpy hotties, then you'll love Aiden.
Now, I don't love the trope about miscommunication, but I know that it's a very real occurrence in many people's lives, and I've become less irritated by it when the author has the two people act like adults in the aftermath. And that is just what Heather Garvin does. Plus who wouldn't want a man to make a gesture like Aiden? It's low-key, but also says a whole lot about him and his feelings.
Overall, I gave Crossing the Line ⭐⭐⭐⭐. I loved the dual POV and that the chapters were short. I felt like I was flying through the book, and probably was, because the shorter chapters let me know that I'd find out the other person's POV soon!
I read this book in one day. I could not put it down. I loved the story line and the characters from page 1. Aiden is sarcastic, cynical, and has the best inner monologue. Deep down you know Aiden is a good guy but he’s had a rough past causing him to put walls up covered in barbed wire to keep people away. Claire is sweet, optimistic, and even after finding out her boyfriend cheated on her, she’s spontaneous and looking for a new adventure.
The attraction between Aiden and Claire is evident and I loved the slow burn, will they/won’t they aspect of this story. The author uses dual POV, which I LOVE, so you can see the story unfold through the eyes of each character. You see the misunderstandings happen and why. You want to smack Aiden and hug him at the same time. You want to shake Claire and tell her to check her damn phone. And you cheer in the end when they finally get their acts together.
If you enjoy romantic reads with a slow burn and just a hint of spice, you will love this book. I need more Aiden and Claire in my life so I hope there is a plan to add to this story in the future!
