Ten years after the events of Atmosphere, a second mission approaches Chara IV, where members of the first mission have been living among the Deer People. The second mission lands in the Ocean to remain undetected. Why are they there? Why are they hiding from their fellow humans? You don't have to read Atmosphere, the first book in the Chara series, to enjoy this one, but it is recommended.
I write to find out what happens next. Unlike many authors, I do very little outlining when I begin a book. I start with an idea and go from there, seeing where the plot and characters take me. Much of the story which happens in my head never makes it to the page. I like to leave space for the reader to imagine and fill in the blanks. As an avid reader myself, I hate being spoon-fed every detail. Part of the joy of reading is creating the world in your mind. I began this career late in life, after pursuing visual arts for four decades. I have to say, I am loving it. I hope you enjoy reading my work as much as I enjoy writing it. Remember, we are all aliens!
Reading Ocean is fun - that's the main takeaway I get each time I dive into one of David Moyer's books. I'm brought back to the feeling I had when I was a kid, devouring sci-fi books whenever the teachers weren't paying attention. He's created a world that is exciting, immersive, and full of surprises. And the twists! You know those dreams where you discover there is a whole world inside your closet that you simply never noticed - Ocean's twists are like that. They open into vast new areas that surprise you by being so inevitable. If you're looking for a fun, twisty, story that feels like pure adventure sci-fi, then do yourself a favour and pick up this book! My only complaint is that I have to wait for the third one. Why!?
I really enjoyed this sequel to Atmosphere the debut novel from David Moyer. In Ocean he dives right into the action and delivers a page turning or "scrolling in my case" suspenseful great story with relatable well developed characters, and poignant themes and subplots. I was excited to get back to it every night and look forward to finding out what's in store for the Chara IV community.
This sequel to Atmosphere returns is to the world and some familiar characters, along with some new crew and new intrigue. The undersea world of Chara is fascinating and multi layered.
Ounce again human and alien politics add drama to this first contact/colonization tale. And the sapient AI once again steals most every scene it's in.
And now I'm anxiously awaiting Moon, the next in series.
Ocean is the second book in David Scott Moyer’s Chara IV series. It continues with the original characters from the first book and adds more humans from Earth into the mix. However, they have a very different mission and threaten to destroy all the first mission was able to accomplish. This book is full of tension and suspense and surprises. Again, I found it hard to put down. I recommend it and look forward to the third book in the trilogy.
Well written and engaging. The first book in this series, "Atmosphere," I loved. So, when "Ocean" arrived, I was super excited to continue reading the story. I took my time, and I enjoyed the ride. I highly recommend this one if you are looking for a new science fiction series.
It is my understanding that there is a 3rd novel being written right NOW! YAY!
I enjoyed this sequel to David Scott Moyer's first book "Atmosphere." By the time I was in the middle of the book, I realized I couldn't put it down. Each chapter led to the next and the next. A fun, suspenseful and fascinating sci-fi adventure!
