This is an experiential book, an invitation back into your natural state of being. It takes you on a journey of reconnection of resewing yourself back into being nature—step by step, so that by the end of the book, your threads are woven back in. And that weaving is something you do for you and for all of us, as it helps us collectively build a connective tissue helping new solutions to our global problems to land. Our solutions must come from a rooted, not a separated, place.
ReRoot leads you through the process with ease, creativity, and playfulness. So enjoy the journey and let yourself deeply experience it.
A timely and important book about connecting with trees to calm and centre ourselves in a time of planetary crisis. I’m not sure what I was expecting when I began reading it; certainly not the significant shift in how I approach all my dealings with trees these days – as beings who deserve my respect and consideration. I revisited a lot of previously held assumptions and beliefs when reading it – some days the exercises felt more like going to a therapist than connecting with nature in my backyard. Was it challenging? Yes. But not overwhelmingly so. More like an awakening, however cheesy that may sound. Definitely not a book to rush through, but one to adopt ‘tree time’ for – in fact the whole exercise of getting to know a tree is based on the principle of slowing down and attuning yourself to a slower frequency. A worthwhile journey for anyone who is seeking another way to ground themselves in today’s world. As Marra says, “Disconnected people and systems will always create more disconnect.” Connected people, well… imagining what tree-connected people could create gives me hope.
Re Root: The Nature of Change through a System of Trees by Louise Marra It is such a joy and relief to have this companion and guide. The journeys here transport me deep into the living earth, of which I can ground, and feel the strength of the trees with trunks to support my back, and to have my back. The roots of the trees enable me to ground, and feel connected to myself, and to the earth, especially when I feel I am under high stress in my body, with a feeling of not being able to ground. The tools given here, give me the guidance and learning to really land, re-root and feel strength and aliveness in my body. The Nature of Change through a System of Trees is full of gems, tools, and more, as the author shares her powerful journey with us, and takes us into the relationship with trees that gave her the essential support to live and invites us to yield into this for ourselves. The tools can be used in any order and at any time and are a reminder for me if I am feeling overwhelmed, to bring me back and connect me to my senses, my body, nature, and each other. In today's world, we can't be without this companion.
As New Zealand starts to grapple with the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle, it is hopeful to hear the conversation of disaster recovery experts focused on solutions that demand humanity to see ourselves in partnership with nature - and give up on the notion that humanity is superior to and can in someway control nature. As this book says, humanity and the planet are at crossroads in our relationship. "It is the relationship that must be reset first and then together we may find solutions to the way forward". This book shows us how we can as individuals, one by one, reset our relationship with nature. It is truly important - it's importance just cannot be overstated - and I thank Louise for showing us all how we can play our part to help create new solutions.
An inspiring look into the connections that we as individuals can make through deepening our understanding of trees. The author takes us on a journey guided by indigenous knowledge, the unseen wisdom of roots and the earth, the strength of the trunk and limbs and the beauty of the branches and leaves. A bonus is in store for the ready; as we learn how to practice and deepen our understanding of the beauty before us. A journey without and end. So creative, beautiful and of great benefit to deepening our connection with nature.
Thank you Louise for this beautiful book inspiring us all to deepen relationship with the living world inside and outside of ourselves. We are called to form a relationship with a tree and in activating this we are reminded of the richness of relating itself. Perhaps applying just a few (but not all!) of these themes to the people we most desire to move closer to would lend a magic to that journey too. A timely book to cherish the natural world around us. Love in action.
This book is such a joy to read , providing wisdom and encouragement to deepen your connection to the environment. I loved the ability to take a journey , to be guided into new spaces with the environment. It never felt like a task instead I could move through at my own pace , feeling into when I was open to it.
This highly approachable book weaves together so many kinds of knowledge and still suggests easy practical ways to open up a deep grounding relationship with nature. The writing is quite chatty. And encouraging. Great for people stuck in ruts or trauma responses, or stuck in cities and wanting to feel the magic and mysteries of life again. Try it!
I read this and did the ReRoot online programme. I love the practical approach to getting into a relationship with nature (literally). I've done heaps of personal growth programmes but loved this particularly - go and find your tree!
Reroot is a fantastic book that guides readers on a journey of reconnecting with nature in a creative and lighthearted way and helps with developing solutions to the worlds problems from a grounded place. Highly recommended for those seeking a deeper connection with trees and nature.
I always appreciate the reminder to be connected with nature. I found some of the exercises helpful - particularly the vision of leaning against a tree when in an important meeting. This made me sit taller and feel more confident and grounded!
A very strong and important message for humanity to return to our roots. I love the practicality of it and the chance to really reconnect with nature and myself. An amazing book.
Wonderful book and so timely with what has been happening the past 3-4 years. The pandemic and fear that was created made us go a little 'wobbly' and lose our sense of quiet and self. This book has clearly been written for these times with that in mind. It has a simple, yet powerful message, to get back to Nature and to become One with Nature. It has been written as if you are listening to your best friend with easy dialogue, allowing the reader to delve deeper within oneself. I would highly recommend it as the exercises are also profound.
