Effing up the last job he swore he’d pull for a merciless crime boss wasn’t in Digby’s plans. Neither was reuniting with his best friend’s lippy little sister in the middle of the bungled jewel heist. But there’s no time to reminisce. Unwilling to leave Kyla at the hands of his trigger-happy accomplices, Digby risks everything to flee with her in a hail of bullets and bickering.
So, now what? Despite being burned in the past by Digby’s skeevy, self-destructive behavior, Kyla hatches a mutually-beneficial scheme to lay low at her parents’ home over Christmas by faking their engagement. The pair still must dodge a minefield of holiday hazards including fooling her family of naturally suspicious cops, eluding the goons gunning for them, and most perilous of all, revisiting their complicated romantic history while sharing a twin-sized bed.
If your favorite tropes are brother’s best friend, enemies to lovers, fake relationship, and second chance romance, you’ll fall for Saint Dick – a funny, steamy holiday crime caper featuring a morally questionable anti-hero with a softer side, and the wily woman who hates to love him.
Canadian romcom author Barbara Kellyn writes funny, steamy stories about likeable heroines worth rooting for and alluring heroes worth the trouble of falling for, and is tickled that readers have crowned her “the Queen of Banter.”
Barbara has published five, full-length standalone romantic comedy novels and two holiday novellas, including Kobo Originals' 2024 Holiday Romcom Writing Contest winner, Polar Opposites, and thanks her lucky stars that she got her happily ever after in real life.
While many are complaining about Christmas displays and carols rolling out too early, I’m the giddy goofball dancing around in an elf hat while gnawing a maple-sugar Santa. This is just one of the many reasons I was delighted to get *Saint Dick* into my hot little hands.
Fans of holiday heat, second chance, fake dating, brother’s best friend, bickering full of s€xual tension, plot-twisty suspense, flawed antihero redemption arcs, and warm, quirky families… drop what you’re doing and order this not-to-be-missed gem.
The basics: Kyla is in a jewelry shop selling her engagement ring after her fiancé turns out to be a rat, and while she’s there, the shop is held up by felonious Santas… one of whom just happens to be her adolescent crush (and first kiss!) Digby, formerly her brother’s bestie until he fell from grace.
I don’t want to give too much away, because you’ll want to be there for the reveals, but after saving Kyla from the Baddies, Digby has to lie low to save his neck, and what better place to do that than nestled within the bosom of Kyla’s all-cop family during a Christmas visit, posing as her fiancé?
Yep, things get just as hilariously awkward as you hope, as Digby does everything wrong, Kyla wants to strangle him (and hopes to renew a high school flirtation with a “perfect” guy in her hometown, much to Digby’s dismay) and the Baddies close in… all as Kyla and Digby are drawn together in a bond that runs much deeper than attraction or nostalgia.
This book was a compulsive page-turner, packed with moments that are hilarious, tender, insightful, and steamy AF. The supporting characters are vivid and charming, the action is brisk, the dialogue snappy and irresistible, and the spice will toast your marshmallows! Stuff your stocking full of heart and heat with this Christmas crime caper.
Oh, how I love a sexy bad boy – especially one who can’t seem to get out of his own way when he tries to do things right. Author Barbara Kellyn delivered the ultimate poster child for Santa’s naughty list just in time for Christmas. Pour yourself a drink, snuggle in, and spend an evening with Digby Reynolds – the spiky sprig of holly sticking in the side of main character Kyla Foster.
This fun holiday rom-com opens with a flashback to 2005, and that’s where we meet Kyla, a teenager on the cusp of her first real kiss with a boy from school. This is where we also meet Digby, best friend of Kyla’s older brother.
After ensuring Kyla’s first kiss with Paul – the aforementioned boy from school – is NOT going to happen, readers learn quickly that these two “enemies” have a lot of chemistry sparking between them. The tone is set, and Kellyn weaves back and forth between past and present to lay the groundwork for a juicy tale.
Main character Kyla is likable, too. She’s had her own set of challenges and is dreading heading home for the holidays without her fiancé in tow. Make that her ex-fiancé. Enter Digby. After a botched robbery brings them together unexpectedly, Kyla finds herself on the run with the man who makes her blood boil…and a few other parts of her body grow hot, too.
But as they say, all roads lead to home and Kyla decides to avoid explaining an ex-fiancé by presenting Digby as her future groom instead. Christmas parties, the return of old crushes, sexpert besties (who fire off great lines like: “You’re so dickmatized you can’t see how stupid you really are.”), and reawakened lust create the perfect setting for Kyla and Digby to revisit their old desires. Of course, they still have the problem of Digby’s criminal accomplices nipping at their heels. All of this makes for an entertaining read – you just might stay up late to find out what happens next.
Chapters switch back and forth between Kyla’s and Digby’s perspectives seamlessly – you won’t get lost. And author Barbara Kellyn has written a smart and funny book! This is exactly what I was seeking to carry me through the silly season and holiday stress. Kellyn excels at writing witty banter, and some of the lines her characters share with the reader – via their thoughts – totally cracked me up. One of my favorites occurs early on in a flashback of Kyla’s:
Mortified to be having a sexual awakening in the produce section, I made an about face, zipped back to the tomatoes, grabbed the first two within reach and chucked them into my basket.
Of course, young Kyla was fleeing a teasing Digby.
This book is especially fun if you’ve had a Digby-like guy to crush on when you were young. (I did!) And even if you didn’t, Kellyn created a lovable screw-up in Digby. With a less-than-ideal upbringing, Digby deals with his own demons as he tries to right recent mistakes and bad choices. Readers will cheer him on. We want this underdog to win.
With some steamy sex, poignant reconciliations, and even a bit of nail-biting drama – remember, bad guys are still on Digby’s trail – Saint Dick is what you want to find under your Christmas tree. Crisp writing and an anticipated happy ending (no, not *that* kind, ha!) promise readers a perfect holiday escape. Fans of enemies-to-lovers stories, lovable underdogs, and clever language will eat this book up. The author seems to have a fun sense of humor, and that comes through in this book. It was wonderful to read a book that made me laugh out loud.
Five sparkling stars for Saint Dick and Barbara Kellyn! Author, you’ve earned a new fan!
I adore Barbara Kellyn’s heroes! And I use the term very loosely! Irreverent, sardonic, flawed… and so freaking funny! Another excellent foray into the funnies.
After a jewel heist gone wrong, Digby saves his best friend's sister (and former lover) at the wrath of his crime boss. With Kyla having recently broken up with her fiance and Digby on the run, they reluctantly agree their best course of action is to pretend they're engaged. In front of her family. And her older brother, who still hasn't forgiven Digby for the last time he messed things up with Kyla.
They have a complicated past, a complicated present, and it sure as hell looks like they'll have a complicated future.
I think my favourite thing as a reader about this, aside from the irony everywhere you look, was the voice. Both Kyla and Digby are sassy, fun, and made me laugh out loud. But they were also wholesome where it mattered. I also really enjoyed seeing the difference in their characters and dynamic between their past and present timelines. Sue me, I loved Digby (Dickby) even back then.
If you're a fan of: - enemies to lovers (and so much bickering, which I adore) - second chance romance - ex-con love interest - 🌶🌶🌶 - a lot of laughs and Christmas cheer then this one might just be for you 🤗🎄
The title alone was enough to grab my attention and it certainty held it. This is the first book I’ve read from this author, and it has made me a fan.
Kyla has plans to go home for the holidays to show she finally has her life together with a great job and a fiancé.. After breaking her engagement Kyla is caught in a robbery. Her brother’s best friend Digby and his associates are the robbers. Digby not wanting Kyla to be hurt takes off with her during the robbery.
They run straight for Kyla’s family home. Not wanting to admit she broke her engagement to her family she convinces Digby to pretend to be her fiancé in exchange of letting him hide from the cops in her family home.
Fake engagement Brother’s best friend On the run Close proximity Enemies to lovers
All the tropes I love. This was a fun book and a great start to my holiday themed reading. Thank you to Barbara Kellyn for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Digby is her older brother's best friend and gave Kyla her first kiss. After many years apart, they reconnect when he holds up a jewelry store. From there, they hide at her parent's place during the holidays as an engaged couple. There were some flashbacks showing their relationship and it was really cute. There were moments that were hilarious but ultimately it was a sweet story of girl showing a boy who thought he wasn’t ever worthy of love that there are people who cares for him.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Digby was Kylas first kiss years ago, he was her older brothers best friend and now in the midst of a jewellery heist they meet once more, but Digby's boss isnt to happy with the outcome and so Kyla gives Digby shelter at her parents home, pretending to be engaged, but will the feelings of the past come back and make something fake real again? well written engaging story, funny moments, desires and more!.

This was such a fun read! The twists and turns of Digby and Kyla’s relationship as they found their way back to each other was a joy to read. I am huge fan of second chance romances and anyone else who is should absolutely read this book. I loved how funny it was. This book sucked me in from the beginning! It has absolutely become a favorite!!
Loved every minute of it! Twists, turns, sexy scenes, fake engagement, armed robbery, and the loveable anti-hero/hero Digby steals your heart. Fun all around. Centered around Christmas, but this high-paced, exciting story can be enjoyed all year round. Five stars for Digby and Kayla! =)
A new release from Barbara Kellyn is always a must-read, and this festive tale was no exception. If you love feisty heroines - with a special mention for the best friend every girl needs in her corner - and the bad boy of your dreams, you'll love this book. Throw in a cracking tale with loads of surprises and twists and you've got the perfect read for any time of the year.
This was a fantastic Christmas read. Digby Reynolds was just enough bad and just enough good to keep the pages turning in this holiday crime caper. Meanwhile, Kyla Foster was another sassy, strong heroine Barbara Kellyn is known for and it was fun to see the two embrace what they knew all along: That you can take all the coal given to you and still turn it into diamonds. Just don’t steal them. Also, would love to see Yuki, Kyla’s BFF get their own story someday!
I was already a fan of Barbara Kellyn as a romcom author, but this book really brought it home. It's a fun caper-style story with a faked relationship and general hijinks, but there's also depth to the characters and themes of abuse and forgiveness make this a unique read.
Warning for potty mouths and a bad boy on a crooked road to redemption, some frightening scenes for young readers (though they really shouldn't be reading this book in the first place given the content).
I'll preface my review by saying I'll read anything by Barbara Kellyn–love her witty banter and quirky characters. Saint Dick is no exception. It was my first holiday read of the year and I have no regrets.
Digby stole Kyla's first kiss even though she was off limits (his best friend's sister). Despite Digby being VERY bad news, Kyla can't help that she is hot for him...right until he steals her car and wallet. Fast-forward a few years and the two run into each other again in the most original meet-cute in world history. It's all fun and games from then on!
I loved the push and pull between these two and the steam level was A-MA-ZING.
Kyla's not looking forward to Christmas. She's promised her parents she's bringing home a fiancée but it's all gone terribly wrong. She's lost her job as well as her future husband and is now selling her engagement ring to make ends meet. But turning up at home empty-handed is the least of her worries when the jewellery store is robbed by gun-wielding Santas. And if that was bad, discovering one of them is the bad-boy she was in love with in high school is even worse.
Digby's life has always been hard, but now, fleeing a crime scene in a hail of bullets with his ex-best friend's little sister in tow, things have got a whole lot worse. Her idea to hide out at her cop parent's house? Crazy. Her idea to fake an engagement? Insane. But with his accomplices and their murderous crime boss hot on his heels, he bites the bullet and steps foot inside the house he hasn't seen for thirteen years.
Kellyn is an extremely intelligent and nuanced writer. She understands that relationships are messy, awkward and complicated, whether they're with a friend, family member or partner, and those in Saint Dick are complex and engaging. Kyla's decisions, no matter how back-to-front they may seem are firmly routed in her character and backstory. Digby is also the perfect anti-hero. He's damaged and makes the wrong choices over and over again, but this makes his redemption all the more satisfying.
Saint Dick has it all. Laughs, feels, suspense, steam and an attack dog named Donut. If you're looking for a brother's best friend, second chance romance, enemies-to-lovers, fake relationship story then you need this book in your life. It's brilliantly written, utterly captivating and I couldn't put it down. For a fabulously festive read, download Saint Dick now!
This book was so much fun to read that I’m convinced Barbara Kellyn had just as much fun writing it. I was torn between wanting to read it as fast as I could and savoring it. Reading the whole thing in one day won. But I have to admit, I was not happy to finish. I never wanted the book to end!
The story is told in the perfect mixture of present day and flashback. I loved the watching the two main characters, Digby and Kyla develop on their own and as a couple from teenage years. The storytelling was flawless as there was never any doubt where in the story and timeline and scene setting I was. It had wonderful pop culture references, a fake relationship, second chances, steam and witty banter. What more could you ask for?
There is a grace in Kellyn’s storytelling that is addictive I was left craving more. So, if you want entertainment, a book that you can disappear into and bad boy turned good, well why are you still reading this review?! Start the book right now, you won’t be sorry.
This is the first book I have read by this author. This is a full length read with a lot of plot and character development. The story is about Digby and Kyla. Digby was a boy that had a rough life growing up but was friends with Kyla’s brother and her family of law enforcement. This is a slight enemy to lovers story although crushes were there. This is a book that keeps your attention. Digby is part of armed robbery when he chooses to save Kyla putting them on the run. As Kyla also has some secrets the pair begin a fake fiancée arrangement. As I said lots of excitement and plot. The only thing I had a hard time with was the characters. Digby was mean at times way too down on himself, Kyla puts up with too much and well these two never have an actual date. There is some steam here and a HEA. Although it’s not a story I would reread it was worth the time. 3- 3.5 stars..
Naughty AND nice! BK does it again and wrapped up a romance, a crime action thriller, and a home-for-the-holidays tale all in one story! I loved reading this book; it was such a page-turner (especially at the end!) that I whipped through the last few chapters and didn't even realize time was going by. This story features Kyla and Digby and a love story that proves sometimes, you just can't fight fate. Loved reading this as we get into the holidays and would recommend to any romance fans looking for more than just the steam (although there is plenty of steam too)!
I am an ARC reader and I read a copy in exchange for my honest review; this is my opinion of my own free will
Saint Dick is not your typical fluffy Hallmark Christmas story, which pleased me to no end. I laughed out loud so many times, I lost count. Digby, you loveable bottomfeeder, you stole my heart from the get-go. I'm not surpriseed, though--I'm a sucker for the underdogs, the anti-heros, and the "d*cks". Young Kyla (aka skeet) may have been a whimp or pushover back in the day, but adult Ky is tough and spunky and takes no sh*it from adult Digby. I'm a big believer in 'laughter is the best medicine', so if you're feeling blue instead of red and green this season, or just want to escape, grab this book. You won't be disappointed.
Get ready to laugh, swoon, and fall in love because Barbara Kellyn hits it outta the park with this one. Bad boy and ex-con, Digby, might steal your stocking and your heart, but you won’t be mad about it. And when he and his high-school crush decide to fake-engage their way through the holidays, Digby finds himself in a houseful of cops. The side characters in this book are warmhearted and funny, and Kellyn’s classic wit and banter are ever present. So do yourself a favor—grab a mug of spiked eggnog and belly laugh till Santa shows up this year.
Digby's no longer the same guy who introduced Kyla to Leonard. Or maybe he is. He needs a place to hide out for a bit so he can keep her safe - she needs a fiance for a Christmas visit with her family. They're hilarious together, LOL funny most of the time. This is my first book from the author, but definitely not the last!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was drawn into reading this book by the provocative title and excellent cover art, and I was not disappointed by what I found inside. It was a fun, funny, spicy Christmas treat that kept the pages turning. I'm a huge fan of romcoms, especially Christmas romcoms, and this one stands out from several others I've read before.
The characters are totally unique and are not your typical hero and heroine. Digby is a bad boy criminal who you'd expect to have no redeeming qualities, but despite all his flaws, his great big heart makes him completely lovable. And Kyla is a quirky good girl who happens to have a cool badass side, which Digby only enhances.
What I really loved about this novel is that I felt like I was treated to a bunch of different book genres in one cohesive story. There are elements of romance, comedy, suspense, and mystery, so I think there is something in here for everyone. The pacing was excellent and made the story engaging. I also thought the spice was well done, heated at times but not every other page.
My favorite part was the end and how things wrapped up. I don't want to include any spoilers, but the clear message was that people can change, and people can change for the better. I highly recommend this one and can't wait to read some of the author's other books!
Saint Dick had me hooked from the title alone. How could I not read it? And I'm so glad I did.
This enemies-to-lovers, second-chance romance is everything I love in a good read - swoony, spicy, dangerous, and full of LOL banter. The characters are definitely flawed, but endearingly so in a way that had me rooting for them throughout. A great holiday must-read!
You’ll definitely want to add this to your holiday reading list! Pour yourself a rum and eggnog and tuck into this fun Christmas crime caper. It’s got romance, witty dialogue, plenty of laughs and enough heat to melt a snowman. What more could you ask Santa for?
Go ahead, it’s for you! Being a Barbara Kellyn fan already, this was a must-read book for me as soon as it came along, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The provocative title and smouldering hunk on the cover are a perfect fit for what our girl Kyla sees in Digby: part dick, part saint, and carrying a package she finds irresistible. Saint Dick is a fantastically entertaining read. It’s the romcom equivalent of a chocolate fondant: decadent, refined, oozing with naughtiness ... and oh so morish! Taste it and see - you won’t regret it.
It's been several hours since I finished this book and I'm still trying to put words together to entice readers to give it a chance. To be honest, I'm not a fan of second chance books. This one? Literally, rocked my world and changed my mind. You will be angry, happy, sad, aroused, shocked, surprised, but most importantly, satisfied at the end. This book has it all and you will enjoy the rollercoaster as much as I did.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The title of this book had me in stitches before I even read it, and I always love Barbara Kellyn's books. The dialogue is snappy and funny (don't get me started on Leonard), and the entire fiasco with the Santa Suit sounds like a romcom movie that needs to be made asap! Digby is a very sympathetic antihero, and I would probably argue that Kayla comes off as more of a jerk than we are led to believe Digby is. Reading the cascading POVs really helped understand his motivation, and it felt like their roles reversed once they finally got together. I enjoyed the book very much, and the ending had me shed a tear too. Always great work from this author!
I received an ARC copy of the novel and was not paid to post a review.
Kyla and Digby’s story is well written, steamy and kept me laughing as I read. There is suspense, drama, danger, angst, villains and romance. I enjoyed seeing them get their happy ending. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a fun movie this one would make. This one is fun; it will have you laughing out loud, turning pages and biting your nails. A must read for any rom-com lover. *Does contain a high spice level
This one was a mixed feelings read. But if you enjoy the show The Great then I have a Christmas book for you.
The cons: - Wasn’t expecting this to be a cop story since neither of the MCs are cops - Digby really is a dick and I spent at least half the book waiting for him to be redeemed
Pros: - Digby really is a dick. Once I’d calibrated my morals to this story I was hooked. Messy characters are a ride and both Digby and Kyla are plenty messy in their own ways
