A lonely single dad. A young influencer in need of counsel. Is their age difference a divide too big to bridge this Christmas?
Joy Halverson isn’t living up to her name. Being a killjoy to those around her--and hiding reality from her online fans--only makes her depression worse. With the holidays coming, it’s time to do something about it. But there’s one thing she didn’t expect—to be attracted to her counselor. Her much older counselor.
Isaac Miller’s only priority in life is providing a stable environment for his disabled daughter. He has no time for flakey women who can’t commit to Paisley. When the young counseling client he can’t stop thinking about steps in to skillfully care for his daughter in a pinch, he is caught by surprise.
As a client, Joy is off limits to Isaac. He could never deserve her, anyway. An anonymous Christmas-card exchange is enough romance for him, right?
Besides, Joy doesn’t believe any man would want her for long in real life, no matter his age. Her counselor tries to challenge her thinking—but what will she do when he captures her heart?
I could not put this book down! It had me tearing up, laughing, and aching so hard at times. Isaac was a wonderful counsellor, father, and friend, while Joy was mature, broken, and just what Isaac needed.
I loved Isaac's daughter Paisley and could easily picture her colorful character from the beautiful descriptions. The fact that Joy excepted her so naturally was heartwarming.
There was a lot to work through for Joy and Isaac to be together, and I loved how it all worked out. Not easy to write about an age-gap romance, but I think Emily did a fantastic job.
I highly recommend this sweet, heartwarming book. It's one I would definitely read again.
This book gripped me from the very first chapter. I couldn't put the book down and wanted to get to the end to see how it played out, only to be sorry that I finished this beautiful and emotional story. Joy went through a lot from a very young age, too young to be dealing with such issues. Isaac is kind, caring and rock solid, and just what Joy needs. Isaac's daughter, Paisley, and Joy clicked from the moment they met. They both have loving families that are there for one another. Would love to be a part of these wonderful families who supports each other. This a a beautiful Christian story that pulled at my heartstrings. Do yourself a favor and read this stunning story. I was given an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
From the outside, Joy looks like she has everything together. From the inside, she's one wrong step away from losing it all. When she's introduced to her brother-in-law-to-be's best friend and finds that he's a counsellor, she works up the courage to book an appointment to talk about her depression. Having been burned in the past, Isaac has a hard-and-fast rule to never counsel anyone he knows - but he gets the sense that Joy needs help and probably won't look elsewhere if he says no. But as he counsels her, he begins to realise he could fall for her - and that's not allowable while she's his client. And Joy has strong concerns about a relationship at all due to her depression. Can they overcome all that is between them to reach a happy ending?
A delightful story with both light-hearted moments and deeper discussions, along with a 'secret' correspondence and a pretty special 10-year-old! While Joy suffers from depression and we see some of her struggles first-hand, the hard times are balanced with encouragement and love from those around her. I particularly appreciated the way that Isaac encouraged her to resolve the difference with her brother - and the way it worked out. The end result is a heart-warming story of hope amid difficulties and love where it was least looked for but most needed. Highly recommended.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
Another great story from Emily Botrous! I loved Joy and Isaac when we met them in the earlier books in this series, so it was great to see them get together. I new this was an age gap situation, but had no idea it was going to be as wide a gap as it was. But Joy has been through a lot and is an old soul even though she is barely in her twenties. There were several issues dealt with in this book, and done very well I might add. Joy struggles with severe depression, feelings of being unwanted and trying to find her purpose in life. I appreciate Ms. Botrous delving into these subjects and dealing with them in such a candid way. There are also old family hurts, grudges, and misunderstandings. And then there is Paisley, Isaac’s daughter with Down’s syndrome. While she is portrayed as (and is) a sweet girl, the situation with her special needs is not sugarcoated and you see how hard Isaac works raising her as a single dad. Once again we get a great story with a lot of depth and issues to dig through. And this is one of the reasons I love Ms. Botrous’ books. I received an ARC of this book from the author, but my review is voluntary and my own opinion.
If you happen to be on the hunt for a beautifully heartfelt Christmas romance, you've come to the right place. I don't know a lot about depression, but I really liked how it was handled in this story. Joy was hesitant to seek counseling for her struggles but figured she could trust her brother's friend to help her. I appreciated that Isaac presented his advice with a biblical worldview. Once they started getting to know each other better, a somewhat reluctant romantic relationship began developing. I liked that both handled the transition from counselor/counselee to significant others tactfully. A relationship like that could easily get very messy, but this one didn't go that direction. I also liked how real the characters' emotions felt. It was easy to get invested into their lives and hope for a happy ending for them. I thought it was so sweet how Joy connected with Isaac's daughter over shared interests and the anonymous Christmas card exchange between Joy and Isaac added a fun element of anticipation. I especially loved how Joy and Isaac's growth arcs both resulted in forgiveness and redemption. This is an excellent read for any who enjoy sweet Christian romance.
The author delivered an amazing Biblically based, gracious perspective about the trials of living with depression. I immediately identified with the ambitious over-achieving Joy. The face she portrayed to the world was far different from the dark reality of her struggle with depression. Her family tried to be supportive. Sometimes they got it right and sometimes they didn't.
At first, I wasn't sure how things would work out with Isaac and if he would cross a line that he shouldn't. The author handles his storyline very well. She gave us a realistic picture of his struggle and had me rooting for him always.
Even though the author tackles some rough topics like depression, feeling unworthy, and a big age-gap, the story did not feel overwhelming or too heavy. She balanced these with an appropriate amount of hope, love, and growth.
You MUST read this story. It's a sweet, clean romance with wonderful examples of how to live with depression or around those who suffer from it.
I was completely enthralled by this heartfelt story and could hardly put it down once I started. Joy Halverson, a young social media influencer, suffers from depression and receives counseling from her brother’s friend, Isaac Miller. The attraction that follows leads them on an emotional path of ups and downs as both Joy and Isaac come to terms with issues from their pasts in order to determine their hopes for the future. I thought the author did an excellent job handling the topic of depression, with the counseling sessions and accompanying descriptions presented very realistically. The sigh-worthy, sweet romance was portrayed beautifully as the characters dealt with whether or not they could make a go of their relationship given their different ages and stages in life. This is the first book I have read by this author and now I can’t wait to read the books about the other Halverson siblings. Such an excellent and inspiring Christian romance!
This was an emotionally heart wrenching and sweet romance. Joy puts up a good front for her Influencer channels but she's hurting inside and being involved in a demanding and at times negative environment is not helping her emotional health. Her new therapist Isaac gives her some great tools to help her deal with it, but she has to find the courage to confront those who cause her pain and accept changes in her life. I loved that they unknowingly communicated through a lost Christmas card. His daughter Paisley was so precocious and stubborn, but who wouldn't love her infectious smile. Isaac wasn't a saint, and he is a lot older than Joy who worries too much about how others perceive her, and their relationship has its share of challenges. I enjoyed catching up with the rest of the characters and their expanding families in this series.
Joy was truly well named by her family, although when she was suffering one of the lows of her chronic depression, I rather think she felt the bitter irony. There is a lot of character development for both Joy and Isaac as they both struggle to find acceptance for the idea that they are worthy of love. I felt like it was easier for either of them to accept the divine love of God than believe in the human love of the person God designed for them. I loved the energy and unconditional love of Isaac's 10-year old daughter Paisley. She lifted every scene she appeared in. At ten, I felt that she had yet to learn that she was 'different' than other children, and I loved that innocence.
I purchased a copy of this story and voluntarily chose to share my review.
A faith filled story that deals with a woman that has depression.issues. She tries to resolve them herself, but it doesn't always work. She seeks the help of a counselor who happens to be a friend of a family member. (This causes a whole other list of issues.) When I first saw this book, I didn't care to read it because I read more for "escape", so I don't pick heavy subject material. However, I accidentally downloaded it and so decided to read it anyway. It is very well written, and excellent editing. I was provided an advanced copy of the book by the author.. This review is my opinion, based on my preferences
This was an inspirational book that was beautifully written about Joy, who believed she was unworthy of love and unwanted. She had suffered from depression for a long time and had finally turned to counseling for help. I admired Joy and her faith. It was so sad to see events from her childhood shaped her future without her realizing it. I liked the support Joy got from her family and how Isaac came into her life. This was definitely an inspirational, Christian story that I enjoyed reading, There were many Bible quotes that resonated with me and made me think. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review,
This is is yet more proof of the grace-filled stories Emily Dana Botrous creates.
With All My Heart, Joy is about a young woman who earns her living being perky and upbeat in front of the camera, while inside she struggles with depression. She reaches out to a counsellor for help, but things hit a snag when they develop feelings for each other.
To make things even more complicated, Isaac is several years older than Joy and he’s a single father whose little daughter has additional needs.
I loved how this sweet story unfolded while these wonderful characters found their way to each other, despite all the obstacles.
This book is like a behind the scenes look that those social media celebrities (or even just the mom next door) struggles just like you might. Just like what I look for in actual friends, the characters in Emily's books are genuine and real. Joy and Isaac are characters you fall in love with and cheer on! The tagline could be: Love can overcome... depression, age, disability...never underestimate God's plan and the value of family. Also, I love the reminders of God's perfect love and forgiveness. Be ready to be on your toes and wondering what will happen at each turn, even if you think you know the ending! ;)
This wonderful story needs a box of tissues. Heart wrenching and also heartwarming, depression is depicted in a very compassionate way. Joy has struggled for four years and finally dredges up the courage to see a counselor. Isaac goes against his better judgement and rules to accept Joy as a patient. The emotions will take you on Isaac and Joy’s roller coaster ride. The characters are all well written with very real feelings. Paisley is adorable. I really couldn’t put this down. I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.
Isaac and Joy had a dangerous thing in common. Each was convinced for many years that they were unwanted and unlovable. It's important to remember that if I feel unloved and unwanted, maybe I am making people feel that I don't want or love them as well. I pray that I will learn to make the choice that Isaac and Joy individually made. I need to remember who I am in Christ and not let what others say dictate my actions and feelings in a negative way. Very well done!!!
Deals with the very real questions of depression and social media influencers. It deals with forgiving yourself and others and counseling. This book is the most relatable to me in the series and thus far, one of the most believable plot lines as well. No purposeful deception, but you do get smoldering tension and emotions felt deep in the gut. Good book.
Some people wait forever to get help. Joy almost did. She was a little girl when her problem started. Now she has decided to get help. Could this help cause another problem?will things work out? I read the ARC and I know. You can find out too. A serious problem that made an interesting story. There is even a special little girl in this one.
What an amazing story that will tug at your heartstrings. It's well written with wonderfully strong, emotional characters. It's realistic touching on current topics. This book made me feel so many emotions and checked off all my boxes for an amazing story. You won't be able to put it down once you start reading. I received an ARC of this book from the author and my review is voluntary.
I was hooked from the moment I started reading. Emily’s way of writing such real and raw emotions never ceases to amaze me. This is another beautiful story that makes you believe in love all over again. I highly recommend this book!
This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author.
Great characters. Difficult situations beautifully handled. Great friends, loving families, sweet romance, and a HEA. Just bring your own box of tissues.
My heart hurt for Joy. Joy and Isaac both had things that they were dealing with - depression, feeling unwanted, regrets, struggles with a special needs child are a few. Loved the letter exchanges which to me made a story within a story. Joy experienced an event as a very young child that shaped who she is. It made me think do I have things in my past that I am still dealing with? The author did an amazing job of drawing me in and keeping me reading.
I loved this story and it is also my first read of this author. I loved the Christian parts woven in and the real, raw heart to it. If you are one dealing with depression this may be difficult to read or may trigger you. It’s beautiful and I want to read more by this author.
Rightly addressing mental health and the Christian
Bring the tissues, kids! This is a lovely story about a young woman's struggle with depression, an older man with his own mental issues, and their journey to their HEA. Well written!
I adored Emily Dana Botrous's other books that I've read, and this one was definitely no different. when I read the tropes for this book I knew I had to read it... I'm a sucker for forbidden love and age gap, and this one really hit the spot! Joy struggles with depression, hides her sadness and emotions behind fake smiles for her Instagram and YouTube followers, and even from her own family. Isaac gently coaxes and encourages her to share the truth with her family and those around her. Their love for each other was so sweet. I also loved Paisley and how Joy interacted with her. This was a sweet book that will stick with me for a while. I read it in one sitting.
Wow! I had a feeling Joy and Isaac would end up in a story together and I am so glad they did. I think this one may not sit right with some people. Isaac is a counselor and Joy starts out as his client. They also have a large age gap (more than 10 years) and he has a child. They are absolutely not right for each other and yet they each feel a pull that goes beyond mere attraction.
The Christmas Card exchange adds such delight to this story! Along with the strong element of faith.
I love the very real topics this author tackles. In this book it’s depression, single parenting and not feeling like you matter or are worthy of being loved. I love the way this author has the characters growing in the Lord through the book and who they are in Him
This story was fun to read. I am impressed that Emily was able to take a pairing that by most standards should have been uncomfortable and made it beautiful. I loved them together and their journey together get there was beautiful to read.
