In this devotional, the author shares some about her personal journey with postpartum depression, and she encourages readers who are enduring similar struggles. Kytia L'amour begins each devotion with a Bible verse, shares a brief reflection, and then concludes with an example prayer. The short readings will be a good fit for exhausted new moms, and L'amour provides spiritual encouragement and validates how difficult things can be for new mothers, in spite of their own and society's expectations.
I appreciate the author's vulnerability. This will help many women feel seen, and can also help them better explain things to their partners or other loved ones. L'amour expresses complex experiences in clear and concise ways, and shares some practical tips and ideas for ways to rely on God and feel His love during a difficult season.
L'amour suggests different things that her readers might be dealing with, and she mentions a variety of different circumstances here, not just her own. However, even though I think it's great that she offers a variety of different examples and practical ideas for women to connect with, I thought it was a little odd that many of the prayers were so specific. If a mom uses them as a jumping off point and a model, this might help her form her own requests and reflections with God, but if someone wants to use the prayers as they're written, they may find it jarring when the prayers include very specific details that don't match their experience.
I would recommend this book to Christian women who are dealing with mental health issues or general discouragement after pregnancy. I wasn't sure what to expect from a Christian book published by a secular publisher, but this was really solid, with a good blend of spiritual wisdom and the kind of general encouragement someone hopes for from a good friend.
I received a free copy from the publisher through Amazon Vine in exchange for an honest review.
I really loved this devotional. They were quick 3-5 minute devotions and reflections with an ending prayer. Each day was relatable and encouraging. I wish that I would’ve had this book when I was going through my dark PPD season. I will always recommend this read to any new mama who needs to be seen.
