Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
Right after the search for the brew Arachnophobia seems to find it broken When really Medusa had swapped it and is now in control of it Death calls in BJ a meister who has a high level of soul perception even being able to see through lies and past witches so protection He investigates everyone to find a mole Mari seems to have something wrapped around her souls which with her own soul spits it out Black star gets told that he’s not allowed to use demon sword as it may kill him He’s crazed that he’s unable to surpas god anymore and fights kid BJ asks mari on a date but doesn’t show up Stein gets arrested
Do I really believe BJ has been murdered? I don't want to. He was a great new addition to the story and I liked his interactions with Marie. I wanted them to get back together. I have no idea what's going on with Black Star but seeing him get his ass kicked was much appreciated. He's becoming my least favorite character.
Don't mind me, I'm just casually re-reading the entire manga for the 5th time or so because A) it's one of my comfort series and I need all the comfort I can get right now, B) I own the entire thing physically so it's right there, and C) everyone is talking about fall/ Halloween reads and SE fits that to a T.
Gonna give all the volumes 5 stars as a default. There's plenty I could complain about if I wanted, namely the unnecessary fanservice/ weird sexualization of teen characters, but I'm not gonna do that right now. It pops up rarely enough that I can just pretend it doesn't exist.
This seems to be where the manga and anime storylines split off from one another. And as someone who is very very familiar with the anime (having watched it around 10 times), I am very excited to have more story that is unfamiliar to me that involves this cast of characters and their world that I already love very much!
In a world where witches, minions, and tainted souls exist, there must also be those that stand against them. These people are known as Weapon Meisters and their Weapons. They are charged with devouring tainted souls and protecting the world.
A new arc is on the horizon, and with it – a new villain! A specialized meister is heading to DWMA to help them suss out the potential spy in their midst. Meanwhile, Maka has a tough decision to make.
Review:
I forgot how much I enjoyed this arc in Soul Eater. I think I always forget because it takes me a bit to get into it (every time!). That said, Soul Eater Vol. 10 has so much going on within the pages, with new highs and lows worth checking out.
On the one hand, we have Soul getting a moment to show off different abilities (I love it). On the other hand, we get to see Black★Star struggling a bit with his limits. This boy wants to surpass even the Shinigami, after all.
Throw in some intrigue and witchy politics, and you can see that this entire arc will get complicated, messy, and emotional before it's all said and done. I'm so glad I'm taking the time to read through the series again.

Idfk Review to come maybe in the future I am very confused
Okay, I was just kind of confused because this suddenly became very different from the anime. Since when does BJ die?? what is this whole "Black Star is suspended" thing?? weird. Anyways, I love the Kid and Black Star fight. First of all, I love watching Kid remind everyone that he's a lot stronger than them. Second of all, I am always very confused at how being beaten to a pulp by Kid makes Black Star suddenly okay. Never made sense to me. Idk. This volume is weird.
Finally getting to huge differences between the anime and the Manga as the result of the battle for the Brew is different as in the Manga during the fight with Mosquito the trio fails to beat him and are forced to retreat while in the Anime they beat Mosquito forcing him to retreat. The other major difference is Joe in the Anime he is an engineer while in the Manga he is their to investigate a potential mole in Death City after Death's forces failed to capture Brew. Which I like as it felt weird that in the Anime they did not realize that their was a mole after so many things go bad for the Meisters.
Oooh, things seem to be picking up again at the end of this volume. I hope something exciting is about to happen. I can't wait to start the next volume.
Soul Eater, Vol. 10 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next four chapters (36–39) of the on-going manga series.
Although Maka Albarn, Black Star, and Death the Kid successfully fight off Mosquito, servant of faithful steward of Arachne’s Arachnophobia, they are forced to retreat to keep their bodies from being destroyed by the vortex of energy where Brew is hidden. However, Mosquito unknowingly returns to Arachnophobia with a replica of Brew, as Medusa sent Mizune to retrieve Brew during the battle.
Fearing that there is a mole within Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA), Shinigami summons Joe Buttataki to investigate. Joe suspects the mole to be Franken Stein, who has been experiencing fits of madness due to Asura's awakening. Eventually, Joe is attacked and killed by an unknown assailant, and Spirit Albarn and Sid Barrett come to Franken Stein's house to arrest him. Meanwhile, Maka Albarn accidentally overhears Crona talking with Eruka Frog, realizing that Crona is a spy.
At DWMA, Black Star deliberately instigates a fight with Death the Kid to confront his doubts due to his recent string of defeats, and Death the Kid defeats him.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo. It concludes the fight between Maka Albarn, Black Star, and Death the Kid with Mosquito, which they were successful, but was unable to get Brew as the vortex that protected it kept them at bay. Meanwhile, a mole is theorized within the DWMA, whom the authorities believe to be Franken Stein as he has been having fits of madness since Asura's awakening.
All in all, Soul Eater, Vol. 10 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
The DWMA Students are holding their own against Arachnophobia agents in the battle for the demon tool "BREW." But Maka, Kid, and Black☆Star is up against one of top generals in the opposing organization, Mosquito, after Doctor Stein was unable to fight madness inside the magnetic vortex, and inside someone else. The only hope to make it out alive, let alone get the demon tool, is for the kids to harmonize their wavelengths within the magnetic vortex, a task previously proven difficult. Will they be able to harmonize and make sweet music, or crash and burn together out of tune?
It was really fun to see Maka, Kid, and Black☆Star work together in tune with each other, though it was also worrisome to see Soul's madness inside him. We met a new character in this volume that I wish would have stuck around longer, he was pretty interesting and entertaining, and I would have liked to seen him and Marie together more.
And what the heck is Medusa's plan, it's like when you get a handle and think you know where she's going, her next move completely turns on its head. But she better not hurt Corona, that boy must be protected at all costs! The art for Soul Eater is a big part of its beauty, its scattered and impeccably showcases the atmosphere each scene needs, and this volume is no different.
I'm enthralled with everything this series has, from the characters backgrounds and motivations, to the bad guys powerplays. All wrapped up in an action-packed and sometimes hilarious shell. I can't wait to read more!
Once again a very good continuation to this series. What I appreciate most about the series is the action from the first volume to this one. There is never one of them slower. I can't wait to read the next manga, it's so intriguing to know what will happen.
The kids are battling mosquito and manage to defeat him but have to retreat, without Brew, so that they don't disintegrate in the magnetic field.
Shinigami calls in internal investigator joe to see if there is a mole in the school. Stein is obviously acting bad due to the increased insanity so he's #1 suspect.
Maka accidently overhears the Medusa is alive and crona is helping her.
Investigator Joe gets killed and Stein gets arrested for the murder.
Onto the next book.

Really starting to see an improvement in the art with each chapter now. The style is getting so much more crisp and well thought out. The story is certainly improving and getting more involved and invested. The repercussions of Medusa's plans are starting to take effect and draw all the characters in!
starting soul eater from chapter 34 because that’s around when the anime diverged and changed the plot apparently
I love black star breaking the spire again to incite kid to fight him. It’s so funny to me, I love their dynamic. I think this fight was much better explained in the manga than the anime
also wow another crazy difference is BJ. that’s WILD
I liked this but I feel like it could have been a bit more interesting in terms of the plot. Well, perhaps more development will happen in the next volume. I did enjoy the piano scene with Soul though!! Very cool!
Not better than previous volume feel like filler but story must go on Continuation of the Battle of the Brew + introduction of Internal investigator B.J. +Maka finds out about Crona secret mission + Black Star who gets the best of him vs Death the Kid + The conclusion of B.J.
(Read from around chapter 36 since this is where it continues after the anime's ending. Forgotten where I got up to though.) DNF - Good series, but I found the manga a little boring where I was up to & then just became too busy and uninterested.
