When mortal Bounty Hunter Mitch Baine decides to spend one night breaking all the rules with a sexy masked vampire, he has no idea that the stranger is Jarrod Axlerod, lead singer of the famous band Heartstrings, or that he will be contracted to kill the vampire the very next day. Mitch Baine has been trained from very early on that the only good vampire is a dead one. A lesson cemented into his brain after years of killing them on contract for the US Army. But his feelings toward the creatures begin to change after spending an incredible night with one at a masked ball. When he receives his newest contract, he is horrified to see that the vampire he has been hired to kill is none other than Jarrod Axlerod the high profile lead singer for the band Heartstrings, and the sexy vampire he has just broken every one of his personal rules with.
I believe that love is love and it happens in a flash.
Whether it starts with action and adventure and adrenaline...or with just a glance across a crowded room. Happily ever after is never far away.

This book was tough for me to rate. I think it is a 3.5 stars for me.
I loved Jarrod and he was a really sweet lovable vampire.
I liked the overall plot of the story and the developments with skip.
I did not like Reagan in the first half of the story but she grew on me and by the end I did like and respect her.
I did not like Mitch, at parts he was nice and sweet but for most of the story I thought he was a selfish jerk and I just couldn't understand why he did the things he did. Even though it is told through his point of view I just couldn't understand the way he justified his decisions. It could be a bias on my part.
Mitch is a US Marshal, paranormal contract bounty hunter. The army contracts him through the US Marshal service to kill out-of-control para's, such as the one Mitch just hooked up with, Jarrod Axelrod.
Enter the rock band Heartstrings and the vampire, vampire-ish, werewolf band members.
I did not figure out during this book if everyone knows about vampires or if it is just the bounty hunters and the like that are aware. I also did not figure out how wide spread and integrated the paranormal beings were in this world.
Mitch and Jarrod hook up, much to the chagrin of one fellow band member and the game begins. Additionally Mitch's sister has a crush on the increasingly psycho band member yet Mitch continues to bring her around him, assuming she is safe, for no apparent reason, even though said psycho vampire has threatened her time and again.
Mitch eventually finds himself on the wrong end of psycho's claws. He manages to survive thanks to some unexpected family members. Now Mitch and Jarrod must make some big eternal type decisions.
This was not the most unique paranormal m/m romance of all time. I tried to edge it up to a 4 star review for the brother/sister relationship, some of the sex and one funny description of poser teenage girls dressed like goth vampires. However, I had to bring it down to 3 stars because a vampire story that has their vampires sleep in coffins for no discernable reason lacks too much imagination.
Mitch is a Federal Marshall and a Bounty Hunter for the Army. He is supposed to take out Jarrod an accused vampire serial killer. But when Mitch looks at the evidence, things are just not adding up and woopsy, he had a one night stand with the mark.
Mitch is supposed to be this loner, hard-ass hunter. Ha-ha-ha! I don't think he could make a good decision to save his life, he's indecisive, a procrastinator, an a push-over.
When Mitch realized that he wasn't going to go through with the hit, he keeps putting off the next step. He needs to get help to find out who the real serial killer should be and he needs to talk to Jarrod to find out what happened. No, he keeps putting both things off and the reason is because he doesn't want to deal with the negative feedback.
He involves his under age sister, Reagan, with the possible serial killer and isn't worried enough about it. Hello! Someone here is a serial killer and you are supposed to be a veteran hunter and suspicious and protective. He's not worried enough to keep Reagan away, and all Reagan has to do is give him the eye and a "please" and Mitch is taking Reagan over party with the killers.
He puts most of his weapons in the safe before going to see the serial killer which just screams "kill me now".
There is no background on the environment whatsoever. He kills "monsters" but we don't know why the government or his family has this view of all non-humans as monsters.
There is no relationship development between Mitch and Jarrod. They just have lots of sex, which I started kipping over, and they had limited conversation as they "fall in love".
I was so frustrated with Mitch that I almost quit reading it. He didn't even get to kick butt, the serial killer hands him his ass and his sister, barely 18 Reagan, kills her serial killer lover.
I was really glad when this ended.

I bought this book and read some time ago that had a better cover than this edition. I just re-read it again and realized I wasn't clued into Goodreads then. This book definitely deserves a review, as it's in my favorites listing. I'm a fan of Dakota Rebel's work all because of this book.
The story starts out with a bang (...so to speak ;~~~ ) and takes off running. In my opinion the story carries you along for the ride so well it's easy to lose track of time. The relationship between Mitch and his sister is well done, explaining his ambivalence at her involvement and his guilt. The chemistry and danger in his loyalty to his job versus his draw to Jarrod is perfect in the tension it provides. I really enjoyed the mystery part and how it developed, especially when his family is such a part of that.
The plot delves into both their psyches and what they go through to be together. By the time you're finished you don't realize just how long the story was, but that made this so much more thorough and you really got inside their heads. I enjoy stories that make me think of them long after they're finished and am on to the next. The tension was good, the dilemmas were intriguing and felt original to me. I'm not an Editor or agent so when people talk about technical writing style or issues, it doesn't deter me in the least unless it's so egregious, which isn't the case at all in this book.
If you like good male/male erotic stories and throw in a vampire or other beasties that are devious and intelligent then pick this one up. :)
I picked this up because I liked "To Hate and To Hold" by the same author, but man, this one was disappointing. It read like a 12-year-old's slash fantasies. Huge gaping holes in logic and plot. I get the feeling this is her first published work because it definitely wasn't up to the standard of the other one I read.
Stayed up all night reading this paperback around Thanksgiving 2009 and it was well worth it. Really enjoyed this second book by the author of TO HATE AND TO HOLD. I wasn't sure what to expect and was very pleasantly surprised. This is the story of a vampire hunter hooking up with a sexy vampire at an annual masked party.
The hunter is employed by the Army. He is a federal bounty hunter who is recovering from a bad wounding. He has a very strong instant mutual attraction he vehemently fights against once he learns the identity of his latest target.
Serial killer / savage vampire / concert tickets / vamps & weres in a band / rebellious sister / strong willed / falling in love / tender feelings / best friend / cover up / family / father-military leader / were vamp cross bred monster / savage attack / saving a loved one / which is worse a vampire or werewolf?
Well, I seem to be continuing this roll on vampire stories and I'm loving it. When a vampire killer falls for a vampire a few problems can arise, the aura between them just crackles with both passion and frustration, it's a truly great tale. I have two beefs though, #1, I just couldn't relate to Reagan, Mitch's sister, she annoyed the heck out of me. #2, I found the coffin thing rather cliche and silly, that belongs in the old black and white vampire movies, not in today. But I still loved this story.
This is now one of my new favorite books. I read Reagan before Mitch so I couldn't wait to read this one. I was immediately sucked in . This book was phenomenal . I'm going to read Reagan again
It wasn't bad, well-written aside for a couple of editing slips. But, Reagan (the sister) annoyed me *so* much! And Skip, he went from "brother", to jealous ex-lover, to manic killer, to mentally unstable werewolf who wanted to be a vampire. I just never got a grasp on his character.
Also, back to the sister: Mitch was hiding the file containing the pictures from her and forbid her to go into his office: all of his suggested that she didn't know about his profession as a bounty-hunter. However, by the end of the book, not only she (and the mother) knows, but she wants to become a bounty-hunter as well!!
And Jarrod (who knew that Skip was not stable and went on killing rampages once in a while) never paid attention to Mitch's concerns about his sister hanging out with Skip. He was just so weak throughout the whole book...
So, Mitch decides to become a vampire, and he doesn't even *think* about going out during the day once more before he does that? Never thought of seeing the sun one last time? Did not wonder about 'dying' every night? He was fairly uncomfortable with Jarrod being 'dead' next to him on the bed, but he didn't ponder about that happening to him before they did the change?
Lastly, the change was just so easy: just one drink of Jarrod's blood, some pain, and that's it? Seemed anti-climatic.
All in all though, it wasn't bad at all. Hot sex too. I just think it could have benefited from being more complex.

3.5 stars Mitch Baine is a mortal bounty hunters who take contracts from Army to take down supernatural beings. On a night where he is not at work, he goes to a club, and hooks up with a sexy vampire behind a mask. Then, the next day, as a new contract lands on his desk, Mitch is shocked to find that the vampire that he must kill is the lead singer of vampire/werewolf famous band, Jerrod Axlerod, who also happens to be the sexy vampire he hooked up the night before. Still in doubt whether he must carries on the task, Mitch takes his sister Reagan, to see the band, where he hooks up with Jerrod again. Now, Mitch wonders if Jerrod really kills all those people or it's a trap to get rid of Jerrod.
I think the story is kinda enganging ... I like Mitch and his thoughts. I ESPECIALLY LOVE Mitch's relationship with his sister, Reagan, which is quite big in the whole story. It's a rare feat, a brother/sister relationship in an M/M story, so I totally love this. The last part of the story is a bit too "sugary" for my taste though, what with the almost overused "I love you" said between Mitch and Jerrod. But, I'm going to stick with the 3.5 stars because one sex in the balcony is kinda hot :)
While better than the first story I read by this author, there's a definite lack of any coherent characterizations, as well as really awkward pacing. The serial killer plotline gets resolved 2/3's of the way through the story, leaving the last third to meander in an anticlimactic mess.
I did like the sibling relationship between Mitch and his sister, though. That was, by far, the strongest aspect of the book for me.
I read Mitch based on my liking of Ms. Rebel's book To Hate and to Hold, but I was a little disappointed in Mitch. The premiss of the story is good, marshall contracted to kill a vampire but ends up falling in love with him, but the story just wasn't flushed out like it could have been. I still like the book, and the author, and I look forward to reading more of her writings.
What happens when you fall in love with the vampire you are contracted to kill? Mitch is a bounty hunter and he receives a contract to kill Jarrod, a vampire who the army believes has killed several men. Mitch looks at the evidence and believes Jarrod is innocent. As he sets out to prove his innocence, he falls in love.
I loved this book. I see its #1 in a series, I just hope that #2 is released soon.
The beginning of this book was great. I liked how Mitch let go and had some fun and the twist of who his masked partner was. I'm not sure I bought how Mitch's sister was exited from the story and I thought the part after the identity of the killer was revealed was way rushed. I did like the book enough to look for other works from this author.
Wow, this was an awesome vampire story. The graphic scenes were amazing. I could see everything happening right in front of me and was so cool. Haven't read a m/m vampire story in a while that contained this much violence and blood. I'm really glad I read it.
Nice story about a bounty hunter hired to kill the vampire he's just spent the night with. Good paranormal element and the characters are for the most part interesting.
