"Cucumbers Have Thorns and Snakes Love Strawberries" is masterfully written. It is a non-fiction which has the warmth and laughter of the 2016 hit series "This Is Us," The emotional journey of "The Color Purple" (Alice Walker), and the triumphant healing of "Chicken Soup for the Soul" (Jack Canfield). It is about the courageous journey of a father and daughter whose lives are torn apart after he suffers a freak accident while home on leave. The detailed and heart-wrenching path that his daughter must take is set within an unimaginable rollercoaster of life events that often leave a knot so large in the mist of your throat you will wonder if you will ever breathe again. Each page will keep you wanting the next as you follow the main character to a destiny that is delayed, but not denied.
This is a sad and tragic story! Very hard to read at times bcs it really made my stomach churn in the beginning but only because my heart went out to the person who had to endure the horribleness she went through.
I got this book back in the late 2000's from the author, I don't remember what store I was in but I remember she had a table set up with a bunch of her books on it. I had fallen out of reading for a few years and thought I might give it a try.
I remember I could not put it down, it was beautifully written, I felt like I was there in the story with her. Seeing how she put the trauma into the book made me feel like I could someday make a book about my own.
It's been a long time since I read the book, but the feeling I had when I read it hasn't left me.
I would recommend this to anyone this book to anyone. I am actually going to order the book, because I gave my copy to a friend a few years ago.
I hated this book like few others. One mistake after another and so many bad choices. I got more than half way through and couldn’t take any more. It’s a cultural thing I can’t understand nor will I ever. I had a rough beginning myself, but I fought my way out and never looked back. I know I’m a man, but this woman actually wanted relationships with men that molested her. Nope not happening for me. This could be a textbook for how not to live a life. My goodness, so many good books to read and I wasted time on this. I was curious how she supposedly won, but 65% through the book and still nothing good.
This is an awesome book. Once I started reading it I could not put it down. This book allows you to look within and appreciate the blessings that you once may have overlooked. It also give you an opportunity to see how you can be a blessing to someone that may need you to the be a positive impact on their live. This is a must have book!
