Charisma Dandelion has beauty and brains. Savvy, sexy, witty, and outgoing, she appears to have her life together. And she does; as long as we’re not talking about her love life. No stranger to heartbreak, she has mastered the art of detachment. Yet, when a stranger she meets online piques her interest, she finds she may be a few lessons short.
Laid back and career focused, Kareef Williams isn’t searching for love. His most recent relationship was laced with more drama than he’d like to recall and distancing himself from anything similar proves to be a wise choice. However, when a friend of his posts on social media, he often finds himself intrigued with one particular woman who frequents the Comments section. Taking a chance on connecting, he soon realizes she comes with more than he bargained for.
Will Kareef and Charisma become the epitome of an online romance? Or will a steamy Summer give fuel to some much-needed passion?
I was attracted by the idea of a romance about two mature characters with heavy pasts meeting in Instagram comments. The idea of this book was good and even the plotting was fine. I think it had a lot of potential with a bit more character development. There were a couple of quick references to past relationship issues that didn’t really translate to the somewhat childish behaviour of Charisma in ghosting or of Kareef in rapidly blocking afterwards. I don’t know, maybe if they had secondary characters they could have explored that side of their personal histories with and if we could have seen more manifestations of this heavy pasts rather than it being mentioned in passing, it would have felt more emotionally connected with the story. I also found the resolution from the party to the end a bit muddled and confusing. For me, however, a major challenge with this book was the language. It’s sort of an erotic romance and there was a lot of language in those scenes that was decidedly unsexy. I also think it could have done with more editing because there were wayyyy too many metaphors and other figures of speech in the narrative and dialogue- it felt unrealistic because no one talks like that and so it distracted from the otherwise potentially great scenes the author had set up. There were also editing issues with malapropisms in the verbs that made it feel like a less polished output. I think this had potential and I liked the concept, but I don’t think it was the best execution and could have done with a lot of editing to make it better.
The internet wins! Lol! I loved this book, it was super cute and lighthearted. Two stubborn individuals trying to figure out their situationship? Count me in! I was definitely eyeing this book when I first saw the cover and it definitely lived up to my expectations. It was short but it packed a good punch and there was some parts that had me cracking up. The author did a great job with this one. We live in a world where online dating and internet connections are made daily so I loved that aspect of the book. Very good read! ❤️
DNF 40%. Starting at 6% with kissing “like an extraterrestrial devouring its host”, the words and phrases used for intimate moments were jarring. Terms like “melon garden” reminded me of men writing women badly. I wanted to get over this because the MCs had a pretty good connection, but had to just leave it.
3.75🌟⭐️⭐️ I enjoyed this novella. Looking for a quick steamy strangers to lovers tale with a little drama, a lot of family and a Happy Ending.. Kareef and Charisma are that! I love black romances where the women are loved and adored and the guy fall first❤️
This was one steamy read . Charisma and Kareef harmless flirting online finally made way to a face to face meeting. As on point their chemistry was still hot. Then the walls that were built up got solidified. Is there too much baggage from their past? Will more develop between these two? Will this be a match made in cyber heaven? Will they continue to build up residence in each other's heart? Will they move on? I just knew I couldn't read this book at work! I even warned a fellow reader she couldn't. Absolutely hot steamy read! You won't be disappointed!
While this story had a nice plot, the exchange between both characters was a little corny/silly and immature in my opinion. Kareef was almost a 40 year old man, yet he acted like a 13 year boy on his first date. Charisma was a little silly too with the out loud dialog to herself, no one needs to reassure themselves that much out loud. I also enjoy love at first sight stories, but this was more like obsession at first sight. The way they described their feelings for one another after only one weekend together and a month of back and forth online didn't feel believable because of the overly extreme feelings they seemed to develop overnight. That kind of hard core love comes with time, standard love would have made more sense. Charisma's ghosting moment also didn't make sense because her reasoning wasn't explained or even hinted at until after she did it. Then after a week of Reef being ignored he decided he was moving on and found someone else to date instead of meeting her in person to get an explanation for her actions or make his intentions clear, childish. If he was really head over heels take a bullet for her in love he would have fought a little harder than a few typed out messages and missed phone calls. 2 stars for the plot and character description, I was happy she wasn't the typical "slim thick" black girl with hazel/green eyes that is apparently an African American novel standard now and I thought the plot was fun, but not the book for me.
Charisma and Kareef have been talking online and finally meet for the first time. And now they're meeting. But when it feels a little TOO good, Charisma goes ghost, questioning whether it could be real and afraid of getting hurt again. But leaving Kareef hanging may be a mistake...
Okay, so I love a good instalove and this was that. I like the idea of them having a mutual acquaintance that could vouch for them both with the other. I like the way they slid into comfort and relaxed. Charisma running was a bit of what I expected, and her going ghost and Kareef responding from hurt was what I expected too. It unfolded like I thought. There was comfort in that and it made it a better read for me. The party setup was cute but the ensuing scene was one I didn't see coming, lol. That was dramatic but not in the way that it took me out of the story. And having it start and end with social media was cute. Nice.
There were some language choices that felt out of place--sometimes the overly flowery language takes your brain out of the story--but overall it was a good short read.
The heat and passion in this story would leave anyone hot and bothered
That sex scene when they first me face to face was so damn hot and steamy!! Kareef seems like the kind of man any woman in her right mind would be blessed to have. Wendy was truly cuckoo for cocoa puffs and I'm sad that her friends didn't try harder to get her help yet indulging her actions instead. With the world the way it is, stories like these are needed to escape and possibly bring back the spice in certain parts of our lives if you get what I'm saying lol.
This was my first read from the beautiful Phoenix Ash and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work. Although this book was short it didn't disappoint.
Kaleef and Charisma were both left scarred by their previous relationships, and although he was open to love she was still guarded. I like that they both had friends who encouraged them to step outside their comfort zone, take the leap of faith and embrace love. His ex Wendy are like most exes don't miss what they had until it's gone. You'll enjoy.
I really enjoyed how Kareef and Charisma met, through Kelly's comments. Kareef! Now that is a man about his business! He knew how to show Charisma how much he cared for her, and the lengths that he would go to build a future for them. Charisma's heart held some much damage from previous relationships, that she almost missed out on her everything. The friends and family that surrounded them were so sweet and supportive. Cute read. 👍👍
Who would have known meeting someone on social media would lead to love. That is Charisma and Kareef story. They both felt the attraction they had to each other. Charisma was wrong for not believing Kareef can love her and not answering his messages. It took her friends and cousin to make her realize she deserves to be loved. Glad she finally got it together so they can be together. Very good.
So I ran across the link for this book on Twitter of all places. I instantly clicked the link and then realized it was under B. Love Publications so I knew it was going to be good and I was absolutely right. Something about Charisma and Kareef’s story is so relatable and it just draws you in because you hope they got it together. Just know I’m going to check out the rest of your catalog right now!!!!! This was an amazing book!!!
This book is about connecting through social media given the current state of this world. Charisma had baggage but so did Kareef. After one weekend, they fell in love but had to go through a little drama. Kareef’s touch was just what Charisma needed and thank god it was not a tease.
This is the first book I've read by Phoenix Ash and I just have to say that I am now hooked. The storyline was awesome and indeed a true to life romance. The chemistry between Charisma and Kareef was so strong and I was very pleased with the flow from beginning to end. This is definitely a must read.
I love me kafee and risa. Their relationship was different!! Loved them she was scared but she got it right. His ex was something else ugh lol. But overall they had ups and downs but who doesn’t!! And I need friends like that they were ride or die!! Read it you want be disappointed at all
Internet Love Connection!!! Great love story! The chemistry between Ris & Reef was explosive. Sometimes you just know it’s right but can’t make yourself believe it. Great Job, Phoenix!!
You put a big smile on my face and let's just say, stimulation else where. I never knew, internet love could be so satisfying. What they say, don't knock it until you try it. Great story!!
Loved this!. It was light and refreshing with laughs thrown in. Charisma and Kareef have a magnetism that jumps off of the pages. A little drama added in with sexy scenes and romance. 1-click and enjoy.
They had great chemistry and even greater sex. I love the way Phoenix paints a picture and it makes you feel like you’re right there watching. I guess you can really find love online.
Ohhhh this was niceeee!!!! The setup, passion, drama, and reunion was very entertaining. I was so excited to read and be entertained by this hot, short, sweetness!!!! I could have read a full story on Charisma and Kareef!
My favorite line “she’s a runner and he’s not a chaser.” When love is an absolute you can run and you don’t have to chase it’s just there. This was a beautiful story.
I really enjoyed this short read. I liked the unique way the characters met online. Even with the short length, there is a little bit of everything for a good book.
This was a cute story. My first book by this author. The best part of the book was the epilogue. It made my heart smile. I recommend this book if you're looking for a short read.
This was a sexy funny rom com. It felt like I should have been watching this instead of reading it. The friends involvement and them trying to connect made it entertaining.
