I'm not good; I know this. I'm the reason my sister-in-law is a widow, and my nephew has no father. This is why Abigail and I can't be together.
This is why I must stay away.
Abigail
It's time to move on. Bash is in New York to reclaim his life as the son to a multi-billionaire, and I'm in Harmony, trying to forget him. That's why I agree to make things work with Anders. Sure, he hasn't been the best boyfriend, but he's here, and he says he'll change…so I give him another chance.
After all, if Bash wanted me, he wouldn't have left, right?
I'm doing my best at drowning my sorrows in the town's gossip, until Anders asks me if I'll go to New York with him to be there for Bash. His father just died, and he's all alone. I start to say no until Dad realizes that Bash is the man that saved Sabrina. Now, he's forcing me to go so I can thank him in person.
I thought I could handle seeing Bash again, until I come face to face with his familiar blue eyes and dark hair. That's when all the walls around my heart come crumbling down and I'm certain that no matter how this ends, I will never ever be the same.
Claire
I'm back in my hometown for one reason, and one reason only: to help out at the Apple Blossom B&B after my mom's injury. Thankfully, she's recovering at Harmony Medical Center which leaves Rose and I in charge.
Rose is my second mother who treats me like her daughter unlike my actual mother who treats me like a stranger. Rose makes this place palatable and with the overstuffed baggage I carry, I need her familiar hugs and delicious chicken and dumpling soup.
I'm walking around with confidence as thin as ice, but I'm making it work until I run into Jax. The boy I loved as a teen but whom my mother never approved of. I broke his heart the last night of senior year, before I ran away for good.
I figured he'd moved on, but apparently not. He now runs the Harmony Pub and even though I'm trying to avoid him, he shows up everywhere I am.
The feelings for him that I thought were buried for good…apparently have nine lives.
The problem is, I know how this story ends. With broken hearts and broken families.
And I'm not ready to do that again.
This story is told through 3 different points of view. Abigail, Bash and Claire. It's a story of romance and friendships between women. If you liked the Netflix show, Sweet Magnolias, you'll love this series!
Fall in love with the town of Harmony Island with this third installment of Sweet Tea and a Southern Gentleman series. There's intrigue, forgiveness, and romance that will make your toes curl and you heart swoon.
Anne-Marie Meyer is a USA Today Bestselling author who lives south of the Twin Cities in MN. She spends her days with her knight in shining armor, four princes, and a baby princess.
When she's not running after her kids, she's dreaming up romantic stories. She loves to take her favorite moments in the books and movies she loves and tries to figure out a way to make them new and fresh.
I devour these books even though the storyline is so cringy? Annoying? Naive? Idk. Anders has to be the most oblivious person in this series. Bash is a horrible nickname & his backstory is odd. I was expecting more for how secretive he was about his whole life. & Abbie is suppose to be what 30? But has the mentality of a 16 year old. Anyway. I’m waiting on the next book.
I really like all the characters in Harmony Island and how the books are told through multiple points of view, interlacing multiple love stories on top of one another. I haven’t read a series this way before and I do find the approach appealing.
Coming into this book, I was definitely invested in Abigail and Bash after we met them in the previous books. I wanted to figure out what Bash was punishing himself for plus I wanted Abigail to get that person who would complement her inner strength. While I am over the top happy about how things worked out, I can’t help wishing there had been MORE.
This book, along with the previous two, just seemed to move too fast. The books are super short in my opinion. There could easily be another 100+ pages spent developing these characters and relationships. In the case of Abigail and Bash, they don’t have any prior history to leverage to justify their seemingly quick transition from attraction to deep love. The only advantage we have is the fact that their relationship has actually been developing since the first book. I am very disappointed that much of the actual conflict - particularly Bash’s family struggle - was resolved off the page and merely summarized after the fact.
Having never read this author before this series, I’m not sure if this is just her style, to keep the books quick, easy reads. They definitely are that and she writes very well, so I’m engaged in the story from beginning to end. For that reason alone, I will keep reading the series. It’s easily a 4-star series. I just can’t give it 4 stars because I want MORE.
I liked the book but hate how the whole series ends with the final chapter introducing a brand new character so that they can be the focus of the next book
Abigail, girl, are you seriously already calling Anders your boyfriend and acting like it’s super serious after, what, a month??? And how about Claire, a dog rescuer, rolling into town and helping rescue a dog who runs off the next day and mid-search for said dog, Claire finds her ex-boyfriend fishing at a forgotten (really 🙄🙄) pond on her mother’s property while conveniently forgetting about the dog for 20 minutes to partake in an impromptu fishing escapade?????? Thennnnn when she remembers what she was in the middle of doing and decides to keep searching for the dog, the two just say goodbye, and her ex-boyfriend doesn’t even offer to help her look for the dog?!??! In the middle of the woods?!?!?! But three stars because I kept reading 😆
While this book is a good read it doesn’t quite fit the title. Book 3 is more about Bash and Abby. I would have expected this book to be more about Jax and Claire, who’s mom is the owner of the Apple Blossom B&B. Either way I enjoyed Bash and Abbys story. Bash: a grieving brother, with a father, who wants him out of his life. Abigail book store/bakery owner, who has a sister going through postpartum depression, and whose boyfriend is Bash‘s roommate. Bash and Abigail: Sparks fly!! Looking forward to more of Claire, Jax and now Juniper.
Like Abigail, I found myself not-so-slowly warming up to Bash; he's been the most complex of the characters so far. Also, instead of the dreaded miscommunication troupe, their unspoken words were misguided acts of loyalty to their supposed significant others, each other, and themselves.
I still don't quite have a handle on Claire (or Jax), and I was expecting much more of an interaction between her and her mother - per the title, this was supposed to be their book, after all.
And just as we meet Claire at the very end of the last book, we meet Juniper at the end of this one. In a few paragraphs, we learn that her parents own the grocery store, she's leaving an abusive marriage, and her (ex) husband's family has some sway in the town.
Bash’s arranged marriage felt so random but it added conflict to the story so I went ahead and rolled with it. Glad to finally get a finish to his and Abi’s will they or won’t they admit their feelings tension. Not really interested in the new romance story with Clair or whatever. I feel happy knowing that step bro and step sis got together. I feel good with book shop owner and mysterious millionaire ending up together. Stopping at book 3 cause the rest of the series will just be new relationships that happen to be in the same town. My OG characters got a happy ending and I’m good with that.
I wanted to really like this one, but I found myself getting more and more frustrated 😣 with the lack of communication between the characters. Abigail and Bash — we, as readers, know how they both feel, but they just wouldn’t tell each other 😳.
And then Claire and Jax… same problem. She refuses to talk to him and brushes him off over and over. Ugh! 😣 It felt like the same cycle on repeat.
That said, I’m pot-committed at this point and still need to know what happens next in the series.
I read the first book in this series a couple years ago and didn’t hate it so I wanted to try out another (yes I know im out of order but libby) and honestly the three different points of view were so different and hard to follow at times I was just trying to get through this book to be done with it
Gahh, this book was annoying because I could see the potential, but nothing ever came of it. Every time a storyline started to pick up, it just dropped off. Everything felt like rushed, incomplete thoughts.
And the multiple POVs… so bizarre. Why were Claire and Jax even in this book? Why not separate their story completely? It honestly felt like there wasn’t enough content to make full books, so a bunch of half-formed ideas and mini stories got thrown together instead.
Abigail and Bash - Yep. I like the MCs in this one more than the first. Hands down. Bash is fairly interesting in a good way. There’s a bite dash of mystery to this one that I enjoyed.
I want to help this author. I really like the story lines, the characters, the movement from one book to the next. I have read the first four in the series the past few days and these comments go for all of them. Easy reads. Fun reads. Great way to escape. But. For the love of all. Get a better editor. I can help with this. I can edit. I know lots of words. It's a STENT, not a stint. (specific to this book) EVERYONE seems to have their eyes widen a lot. There are other things eyes can do. There are other reactions people can have. There are other ways to say it. How about some other nervous ticks besides lip or nail chewing. Every one of the female leads do this. A little consistency goes a long way (to not making your readers groan)... this one actually goes back to the last book: sometimes Anders called Abigail "Abi" and other times "Abby." Does everyone have to harbor an absolute idea about someone that they formed when they were 17 or 18? And there's no way they are wrong about that idea? People! Grow up and talk to each other. If my daughter came home with a black eye that her husband gave her, you'd best believe that there would be cops involved. The phrase is "he's got another THINK coming," not another thing. OK. I'm finished. But seriously, Ms Meyer, reach out if you want some help editing. I want you to succeed.
Is this easy to read? Yes. Do I regret my choice to keep going with this series? Also yes. I blame bookstagram - I think these books could be good with a better editor. The first book is cute, then the next one has pretty much the same characters (no I’m not good enough, I don’t deserve love, blah blah blah) and this third one is the same. I just wanted to read the resolution for Bash and Abigail, and am still disappointed. (Although they end up happily ever after but it took three novellas.) There’s conflict, then in the next sentence the conflict is resolved. I kinda wish life was like that. But the whole “I’m terrible and don’t deserve love” gets old after the first book, and I think there are inconsistencies that a good editor would’ve helped fix. (The “I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding” only came up once! But stuff about not being on your bingo card came up twice sigh.) I’m grateful these were on Kobo Plus, so I didn’t actually spend my money to buy them. I also might’ve enjoyed them more if there was more romance and sex - every time something might’ve happened, the main characters were like “no we shouldn’t do this!” And I was like omg please do I might enjoy the book more.

I went into Book 3 curious to see how the story would continue, especially after getting attached to the main characters from Books 1 and 2. I’m invested in finishing the entire series—now eight books—and that definitely motivated me to keep going with this one. It’s still an entertaining read, but I was hoping for more development involving the original characters. They only appear a few times, and after the first couple of chapters their lives aren’t mentioned again, which left me a bit disappointed.
The new main characters simply didn’t grow on me the way I hoped. Book 1 was slow, Book 2 was more engaging, but Book 3 felt somewhat childish, with dialogue that lacked depth and emotional weight. It’s not a bad book—just lighter, simpler, and not as compelling as the first two installments.
Overall, it’s a pleasant enough read if you’re committed to finish the series like I am, but it didn’t quite capture the charm or connection I felt before. I hope the next books bring more well-written dialogues, more engaging characters, and a slightly more elaborated, profound writing style to enrich the experience.
Book Series Review 📓⛓️SWEET TEA AND SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN BY ANNE-MARIE MEYRE
⭐️/3. 🌶️/ 0
1 The Inn on Harmony Island 2 The Shop Around The Corner 3 Apple Blossom B&B 4 Goodwins Grocery 5 Harmony Island Gazette
These books where my first by this author and honestly I was hoping for more the stories them selves were good but I was hoping for a bit of a different writing style the reason for the 3 ⭐️ well it’s for the whole series!
I couldn’t bring myself to read book 6 it just wasn’t there for me
I felt like if the author wrote a full book with more detail to the background of the characters from start to finish with a bit more of a happy ending in stead of jumping right into the next couple the books would have come across better for me.
None the less the stories were good but I was hoping for at least a little spicy but unfortunately as it states it is a sweet romance and very gentlemanly with not much talk of spice there more like a bulb around it in the books
My fav from the series would have to be the first book as it had more to the couple more details more of a back story.
It just feels a bit incomplete for every couple and their story.
Apple Blossom B&B was a great book until the end. I was planning to give it five stars. Unfortunately for the author, the end was the biggest let-down I've ever experienced from a book.
I loved Abigail's & Bash'es story, but it just abruptly ended. Their story needed at least one more chapter and an epilogue. Clair's & Jax'es story was left hanging. The epilogue was solely about them, but it wasn't the end. Their relationship was unresolved in this book. The epilogue felt like it should have been the halfway point of their story. Their story and Juniper's (who we didn't meet til the last two pages of the epilogue) will resume in the next book, but, we have to wait almost six months for that book.
I despise authors who do this. I will probably read the next book just to get the conclusion of Jax and Claire. After that, this author will be placed on my never again list.
I love these light hearted romances. These characters all from a small town just keep coming back even though none of them wanted to. Anne-Marie Meyer just has your heart with every new character introduced. I love this series and cannot wait until November for Goodwins Grocery to be out!
Abigail and Bash are not supposed to fall in love. In fact they cannot. She is dating his best friend and he is running from a life that he wants to stay in the past. He has to return to his rich family to help with his father funeral arrangements. She is going to everything she can to forget him and live a happy life with Anders. Claire is returning to town to help her injured mother with the Apple Blossom B&B. She is going to do everything she can to leave as fast as she can. Except she keeps running into Jax. Her ex-boyfriend. Junniper is back in town at her families grocery store. Goodwins Grocery. She didn’t want to return but the circumstances just had her coming back.
This third book from Anne-Marie Meyer's Sweet Tea and Souther Gentleman series will have you turning the pages and not wanting to put the book down. This book follows the love story of Bash and Abigail and all the turbulent ups and downs they both have to overcome, from Abigail's love and frustration with her sister to Bash's haunting history that he can't run from. Anne-Marie has a way of telling a story that makes it easy to follow and you wanting more. I particularly enjoy how she gets you going on a storyline, but then changes which character's story will come next making you have to finish the chapter to get to the story line you want more from. I found myself bonding with the characters and having an invested interest in their stories. She does this beautifully by keeping each characters story woven into the main story of each book. This is a great book to sit in a comfy chair on a rainy day with a cup of tea and indulge.
I got 2 hours sleep last night! This series has me captivated. I’m so glad Bash and Abigail had their HEA. After Bash deals with his past and Abigail finally decides to tell home how she feels. I hope Claire and Jax do too! Claire came in at the end of The Inn at Harmony Island. Jax is her ex from when she was younger. Claire feels so unwelcome in her childhood home. Her mom is really hard to deal with. She came home because her mom broke her hip and her siblings decided she was best fit to be there. She ends up with stray dog. Clair’s mother dislikes Jax. Jax’s nephew dog gets her dog pregnant. I can’t wait to see how it ends. The cliffhanger was so funny how it ended. I love that Miles and Shelby got married! One thing I love about this series is at the end of every book they bring in a new love story to start! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ off to read Godwin’s Grocery! I think maybe I should’ve read The Red Stiletto Book Club first cause it’s mentioned quite a bit!
This is the third book in the series. Each book has multiple storylines with multiple POVs much like a soap opera. This book wrapped up Abigail's and Bash's main story, touches on Claire's and Jax's story and introduces Juniper in the last chapter. Abigail and Bash are officially my favorite. I was unexpectedly touched by their story. Honestly, Bash shouldn't be a character that I would route for. He made a selfish, stupid, fatal mistake. I'm not okay with that. Emory's anger is completely understandable. His family's disappointment is understandable and his self-hatred and guilt is completely understandable. But still, I wanted him to find forgiveness and happiness. My heart broke for Abigail. I was glued to my kindle with tears streaming down my face at 3 in the morning, waiting for them to just be together. It was worth the read.
Bash…. That man is determined to make everyone else happy as he feels he doesn’t we deserve happiness himself. He gets called home to say goodbye to his dying father and has t face his past he’s been running from for years.
Abigail…. Thankful to her dad and step mom for coming out to help with her sister and her baby as it is clear that she cannot do it alone any longer.
The town is in an uproar because of the construction and what that really means and the shop owners do their best to band together.
Claire.. we get just a snippet of her. Her siblings think so little of her and her career that she is the one “voted” to go help their mom when she lands in the hospital. She runs into her ex more times than she likes.
I’m not only interested in her story but also juniper as she’s mentioned at the very end.
Once again, this book continues where the previous book (The Shop Around the Corner) ended, so you'll miss out on part of the story if you start here. Each book features a couple, but as the previous couple's story ends, (usually two books in) a new couple's relationship starts. This book is actually Abigail's third book in which she's a key player. The stories and characters are good, but it did seem that the romantic connection with Abigail and Bash, was not as developed as it could have been. Like they fell in love but there was not a lot happening to show why or how they fell in love. (Other than maybe an initial physical attraction.) These are sweetish books with no sexual content. A lot of miscommunication or lack of communication between the couples, which causes friction. Alternates between several POVs.
I felt really disconnected from Claire until almost the end. I still have a hard time figuring out how she fits into the towns history. I would have loved to see more discussions about other townsfolk we have come to love. I hated that Abigail and Bash had so much turmoil until the very last second. I have always liked Bash and Abigail as separate characters, so I was routing for them from the beginning. I found Bash's character really developed well. I was slightly disappointed with the direction of the Devereaux Construction storyline. I was happy with the ending, but the build-up to this big event seemed to conclude as an afterthought. I think my least favourite book by Anne Marie Meyer yet. I did like how we got that brief crossover for the Magnolia Inn reference. (Mind you, I was a bit confused with the reference it didn't make sense if I am remembering correctly)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Claire was not what I was expecting. I thought for sure she was going to be rude and not like able but she was chill. There is something going on with her and Jax that I really need to know more about. They seem to have some serious history that I can’t put my finger on. I know they were together but I don’t know why they broke up. I need answers to that one especially since her dog is going to have puppies and it’s all his dogs fault.
Abigail really tried with Anders. He has some ghosts in his closet that he needs to get some closure with so I hope to see his own development with the rest of the series. When they leave to support Bash, things really start to come together. Bash has to do something for his families business and he’s not happy about it but he wants to make his sister happy so he’s going to do whatever he needs to do. I’m so glad that had a happy ending because I didn’t know what I was going to do if it ended differently.
Juniper. Now she’s new but something bad is circling her. There’s so much to that story and I wonder just how dark it’s going to get.
Sweet Tea and a Southern Gentleman SERIES REVIEW: ⭐️: 3.5/5 🌶️: 2/5 🎧
I read this series on audiobook after listening to the first two on a long road trip. I was just coming out of a reading slump, and these were the perfect easily-digestable books to jump-start me getting back into reading. My favorites were The Shop Around the Corner and Godwin's Grocery. I found that the cast had a lot of different personalities, so I could always find someone I could relate to, and while technically these stories could be interconnected standalones, the way Meyer wrote them was really unique, usually focusing on two couples each book, so each couple, while they got a main feature, was heavily present in at least one other book. It made the transition between books really smooth!
Definitely recommend if you're looking for something easy and light to get through!
I loved it! I wish I could have finished it sooner, but with school, work, and family, priorities come first. The writing is so smooth and clean. I appreciate that there isn't too much drama, and I love that Claire, her daughter, takes charge. It's great that Shelby from the first two books is still part of this one, even though their love story has been told. Their friendship with Abigail is still evident. There's a lot of new information about Bash. I would have never guessed he came from a wealthy background. We also learn more about his backstory and see how his relationship with Abigail develops. It happens quite quickly, but in the end, Bash does something really good. Now for the next book to see how thing goes with Jupiter.
