The O’Leary family has been plagued by a curse seeded with malice and revenge for centuries. Fated love was doomed to begin as soon as feelings were spoken. The family placed their faith in knowing seers with the promise of being saved by a prophecy. Aedlin grew up with her grandmother, aunt, and uncle in the English countryside, blissfully unaware of the magic that lay within her. One day she is drawn back to the ruins of a medieval manor on the cliffs that have scared her since she was a child. She sensed something had changed. A feeling unlike any other overtook her as soon as the locket she discovers is in her hands. She is sent back in time…back to him. The curse veers its ugly head and she is thrown into a fight she is not prepared for. A fight for love. A fight for her life.
Firstly, I am so honored to be the cover of this book. Brittany wrote a beautiful and strong woman that I am honored to get to cosplay in real life!
In normally don’t read period pieces. But I absolutely loved this! I cannot wait for Addy and Col to continue on. This ends on a slight cliffy. But that is absolutely okay. This was so beautifully written. Brittany you’re an amazing writer.
I really enjoyed this book and the ending had me wanting more. This was a fated mates, time travel romance set in the medieval times.
I really enjoyed the medieval setting and the book started off strong. I really liked Aedlin, our FMC, but couldn’t connect with Col and that may be due to the lack of background on him. I loved fated mates romances and I wish there was more relationship development between the characters.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I was thinking about it after I finished it. I’m interested to see what will happen in book two.
I was luckily chosen to be an ARC reader for this novel. I loved this book soooo much. I finished it before the release date of the book and already eager for a second book lol. I love the time travel in it, the medieval parts, & even throwing in the supernatural parts. The medieval times are set back in the 1500s and everything is on point down to the way that they speak during that time period. The character development is great. I also enjoyed how detailed the novel was in a lot of parts. It really helped me imagine the scenes as I was reading because the descriptions were so well written. There are unexpected twists in the book that really just grab you and pull you in. It’s hard to put down once you start reading! This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I will definitely be reading all of her books. Definitely recommend this read! Also loved the cover, the design on each chapter(including the little quote under each chapter heading) & the fated Col. Loved the bits of time travel containing her grandma and uncle too!

I’ve just finished my read of the ARC copy. And I loved this story. I can’t wait to find out how it ends!
There are a couple of editing mistakes such as repeated lines and typos, but it’s not enough to distract from the story. For me personally, the time jumping got a little confusing at some points, but I’m easily distracted.
Col. Oh, my valiant Col. This man is *Chef’s kiss*. I don’t want to spoil anything, but, my Lanta! That man is the perfect knight. 😍
I also loved James and finding out more about him made me love his character even more.
Do yourself a favor. Read it. The plot is so imaginative. The amount of reasearch that must have been put into it is superb. Overall, it was a great read for me.
**Edit: The repeated lines were brought to the authors attention for correction. I hope you all love this book as much as I did.
”Adelin, the moment I lay eyes on you it’s as if I woke out of a long slumber and my heart started beating.”
Addy is distraught over her family lose and returns home to find a mysterious necklace. The necklace takes her to another time, to another man. A man she can’t stay away from. But her family is cursed and she is the only one who can fix the past’s mistakes. _______________________________________________
I was torn between giving this a three or four star. While there are many things I did enjoy about this book, I also have a few grievances. But the ending had be really hooked and the fact that I continued to think about it after tells me I really liked this.
A few things that bugged me: I know this is a gated lovers romance. With that said, I still believe there should be somewhat of a slow burn or at least multiple romantic scenes to set the stage for their connection. This really just tells you they are fated and that’s it.
I wanted to get to know Col more. I don’t know anything about his background or history. I barely have a grasp on his personality at all. This is only a 200 page book. So it isn’t long. However, I commend the author because I was still attracted to his character. I was still rooting for him throughout this story.
The plot and world building at different times was slightly confusing. Specifically her time jumping and the fact that a person could exist in two different times or they can’t but can choose a different time to be in when they pass? Her uncle’s existence sticks in my mind. I have no idea what time he originated in and how he ended up back there. This was attempted to be explained but it just didn’t make sense to me? Maybe I’m too dumb.
Addy is a sweetheart of a character. She isn’t sassy or overly aggressive but she isn’t a pushover. I enjoyed reading this from her perspective. I love her little moments of dominance with Col. I’m glad she didn’t wallow over Sebastian.
Overall, this story was unique and different. Im not usually into historical fiction or romances. The first fifty or so pages felt a little boring to me but once I met the characters from the past, I was pretty hooked. The ending has left me pondering on where the author plans on taking this but I want to know. I’m invested now. I think despite the few bumps, I still enjoyed and am really looked forward to the sequel.
Title: Time Awoken Author: Brittany McMahan Genre: Historical Young Adult Format: eARC Series: The Locket Keepers Star Rating: 3.5 stars
A special thank you goes to Romance Me with Books for giving me a copy of this book. Please know that this does not influence my rating or thoughts on the book itself.
Life begins and ends with a shed of a single tear. That was the first line in the book and I knew it was going to be a great book. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a time-traveling book. They can be so hit or miss because time travel is often a confusing concept. But not with this book. I fully understood what was going on and what was happening during the time-traveling sequences. Those sequences were actually my favorite parts of the book.
I enjoyed Aedlin as the main character. There was just something about her that I really liked. Her devotion to her family is one of my favorite things about her. She would really do just about anything for her family and for the love of her life.
Speaking of the love of her life, her and Col. One word: spicy. I appreciated that the sexual scenes were PG-13. But wow, I felt all the feelings and I couldn’t get enough of the two of them together. I enjoyed the banter they had. I could tell that the feelings they had for each other, even though they had only known each other for a short time, were intense and I know they will be together for a very long time. At least, I hope so.
The one minor complaint I had about this book was that everything happened quickly. I didn’t get a lot of time to just enjoy the scenery of the 1500s. Everything was just go go go. Don’t get me wrong, I do like that sometimes but I feel like this novel could have benefited from just taking its time. But that’s really just a minor complaint.
Overall, I couldn’t get enough of this series. I nearly killed my poor kindle because I just had to finish this book. I had to know what was going to happen next. I wanted to read more about Addy and Col. I wanted more of their banter. I was just so hooked on this book. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
✔️ Found Powers ✔️ Time Travel ✔️ Fated Lovers ✔️ Medieval Setting ✔️ Magic
I LOVE historical settings and I also really enjoy time traveling stories. So I was super pumped about this book! It started off strong with the prologue. But the next couple chapters didn't do it for me. I would have liked to know more about her life now in modern England, her relationship with her ex. Something, to make me feel more of a connection to her. But as I continued on with the story... I couldn't stop reading. The humor was nice, it had some true laugh out loud moments.
I liked the FMC Aedlin, I didn’t feel much if a connection to Col. I wish we have more time just being in the Medieval Era, and learning about Col. I think that is my main complaint, is we could have benefited from more time with everything and everyone. Yes it's fated love, but I felt it was lacking in scenes that would build a bond between them. I hope we learn more about her magic, and other mythical creatures that were mentioned. Time Travel is another thing I hope clears up as the books contuine. Why do they go back to that time, and how did her family come to own the land.
I really enjoyed the small attention to Medieval details that were scattered throughout the story. It feels reserched. I did enjoy the story and after sitting for a few hours after reading it, I'm still thinking about it. I definitely want to contuine with book two.
Time Awoken by Brittany McMahan is a time travel fantasy set in a medieval village where knights still rode into battle with favors from the ladies of the court. It’s a story of fated yet forbidden love and a family curse that has been passed down through generations of women in the main character’s family.
The plot is extremely interesting and well conceived. It will keep you turning the page and there is even a bit of a plot twist towards the end that you won’t see coming. Be aware it does feature a cliffhanger ending, with no information currently available on book two.
The main character, Aedlin, is extremely well written. She is strong, independent, and instantly likable with a good amount of depth to her development. The supporting characters of the book, however, are not as well developed. I found myself wanting to know more about these people, their motivations and their past. I thought it would have helped drive the story forward a bit more.
The author also chooses to use a lot of medieval vernacular, which adds to the setting, but can be a bit distracting from the story. I was slowed down several times in my reading while I had to flip back to the beginning to look at the glossary. I loved the author’s commitment though to trying to make things as accurate as possible.
Overall I gave this book a 4 out of 5 and a spice level of 2. If you love a good time travel romp, this is definitely a great option for you.
✔️ historical fiction romance ✔️ fated love ✔️ cursed family ✔️ witches
"Adelin, the moment I lay eyes on you it's as if I woke out of a long slumber and my heart started beating." Addy's character is such a sweetheart but she also isn't gonna take anyone's s***. I loved that about her. Especially after what Sebastian did to you, she just brushed it off. She knew her worth. I loved the uniqueness of this story and the plot twists. The O'Leary family is full of secrets and lies. This book will definitely keep you on your toes. However, I did find a few things confusing. There was a little bit of explanation on how her uncle could be in 2 different times but it just didn't make sense to me. Like it wasn't a thorough enough explanation. And there wasn't an easy transition between each time jump. It takes a little bit to realize she's in another time. It read a little rushed to me, the book is only 200 or so pages, and I felt like if it had been a little longer then I would have been able to give it a higher rating.
My knowledge of the medieval time period starts and ends with the Merlin TV show (the 2008 drama that was shown on BBC One) and even then I didn't finish all 5 seasons so it was very interesting to read about since that style book isn't usually a first grab for me. I have never read a medieval romance and while I wouldn't put this book in my top 10 I definitely will be coming back to read the second one. I struggled at first to understand what was going on and connect to Addy but the more I kept reading the more I figured it out. I started to feel for Addy and I need her to get a HEA and I NEED it to be with Col!!! I hope we get more of Addy figuring out her powers in the next book! This is an ARC review
I loved the premise behind the story, the characters, even the time transitions that accompany the story were smoothly done and easy to understand.
If you enjoyed novels like Parallel and Time Traveler's Wife, I feel like this is worth checking out!
My only downside was that I wanted more. Things progressed at a bit too fast of a pace for me to enjoy the scenes in their fullness as they were happening. This is just my personal feel for the pace of the story as I was reading it.
Take this also as an upside because..I want more! I want to see how Aedlin currently deals with that cliffhanger we were left with and how it effects the entirety of the Supernatural world.
Time Awoken was so different from the other books I have read from Brittany! This story starts in modern day. Throughout the story the MC Addy time travels back to the 1500s. We meet her grandmother and several other characters throughout the way that travel with her through time. It took me a minute to “catch up” to the time travel but once I did I couldn’t put this book down. And of course Brittany leaves us hanging with characters lives dangling in the balance, love being ripped out of their hearts!!! And of course we are all dying for part 2 now!!! Thank you Brittany for creating more characters for us to love!
More like (3.5 stars ⭐️) If you like the book The Time Traveler’s Wife, then you will like this book. It was a little hard to read in the beginning just because the time jumping back and forth was hard to follow but once you get into the heart of the romantic part of the story I loved it! Tropes: Fated Mates Slow Burn Found Family Spice level 🌶️🌶️ It follows a woman who thinks she has lost everything only to find she has a magical gift that brings her back to the past only to discover she comes from a long line of magical women. The decisions she makes while traveling to the past could potentially mess with her future.
4 stars, 3 steamy kisses ARC COPY REVIEW Book #1 in The Locket Keepers series
magic, historical medieval romance, romantic suspense, action, prophecy, fated lovers, secrets, betrayal, found powers, family, friendships, time travel, fantasy
I really enjoyed it and looking forward to continuing the series. The plot was interesting to me as it included more historical and medieval elements to this time travel and fated lovers' story which are not in my usual go-to reads so it was well received. The action and secrets in the battle of good and evil were just right. The ending ugh give me the next book already lol ;-)
If you enjoy reading historical fiction romances, then Time Awoken would be a good book for you to check out. It's a time travel fantasy that is set in a medieval village. There's a family curse that has been passed down through the main characters family for many generations. Overall, the story was decent, but the book seemed very rushed to me. The progression of the story happened too fast for me to really enjoy the book like I think I could have, because I wanted more. I was very close to giving this book 3.5 stars, but because I did really enjoy the book, I went ahead and gave it 4 stars. If you enjoyed The Time Travelers Wife, this might be one you would enjoy as well.
I'm going to start by saying that this kind of book is not my thing and many of you will like it much more than i did. The tense messed with me quite a bit, im not sure ive read a book written like this and i wasn't a fan.
With that said, the whole premise of the book was very unique and had some rrally fascinating characters. The time jumping was really interesting and so are Addys powers. I wish we had a more in depth view of her learning those powers because it seemed to go too fast.
It also leaves us on a huge cliffhanger after getting pretty crazy at the end.
This book has some great elements! First the design of the book is great, the cover model was an amazing choice for us booktokers, and the story itself is a great tale. Midevil times, time travel, paranormal/ supernatural, twists you don't see coming.... it's well worth your time to pick this book up. Can't wait to continue the adventure!
What a phenomenal opening to this series. So much world building and background given, but it does not lose the mystery, intrigue, and love of the story. I am very excited for the next installment. I read this in one day, I could not put it down. From the very opening to the last page I was totally hooked. My only disappointment is having to wait for the next.
This book has a unique plot and unlike anything I’ve read before. It’s a mix of historical romance, fated soulmates, witch craft and time travel. The FMC is amazing and stands her ground as she navigates her crazy travels all while trying to beat the curse. This was a great opening to the series and I can’t wait to read the next!
This book was so different from anything I’ve read before. I loved the plot, the world building and the characters. The suspense was great. If you liked The Time Travelers Wife then you will love this. I can’t wait for book 2.
⭐️: 4/5 🌶: 4/10 What a cliffhanger!! This story was so interesting and sucked me in just waiting to see what happened next. The construct of time made it a little hard to follow at times but the story and world building was amazing! I can’t wait for book 2, there better be a book 2!!
