Stephanie and her friends get together to start a summer camp for kids called Club Stephanie, but their plans are undermined when their rivals, the Flamingoes, start their own camp. Original.
Rhys turned to writing children’s books under her married name, Janet Quin-Harkin. Her first picture book was an immediate success and won several awards. More picture books followed, then her agent asked her to write a book for young adults. This was a turning point in Rhys’s career. Her first young adult novel was an instant hit. By her third she was selling half a million copies. Many more popular YA novels followed until Rhys decided she had said all she wanted to say about teenage love and angst, and she turned her real love—mysteries.
It was great reading another Full House book after such a long time. I don't think I've ever read anything from "Club Stephanie" before. Or maybe I have but I just don't remember it. Whatever it is, it feels good to finally meet Stephanie again.
I had been contemplating when to go back into Stephanie and Michelle's world once again. As a kid, I had always loved these books. I would read one each day. So it came as a surprise when my library ended up having one of these and then loaning me for fifteen days. I didn't really need fifteen days to read it, though. It was done within the blink of an eye. (I mean, not literally, of course!) I guess there is just something about middle grade books that tends to really attract me even today.
Yet, Fun, Sun and Flamingoes didn't end up being the kind of read I had assumed it would be. Indeed, it was fun but there wasn't much story to it. And I'm not really a fan of a book like that. I mean, if I'm reading something, I want something more. But I guess, as a kid, it never occurred to me that there was nothing more here. Or perhaps, it was this particular issue. Perhaps, the next one would be better. Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best.
Had some of the humor of the show. This book is very dated, as it came out in 1997 when I was 2. Pretty cheesy. My niece loved it. It included the most 90s insult I’ve ever heard.
