Charlene Morris is taking a night away from her Salem, Massachusetts, B&B--and its resident ghost--to enjoy a spooky double-bill, until murder upstages the evening . . .
Saturday night at the movies has some added flair now that Darren and Elise Shultz are reopening one of Salem's classic theaters. Charlene is delighted to help the couple with their venture, and Darren has lined up a cult classic double-header featuring Lon Chaney in The Wolfman. But things get hairier than expected when Elise starts to choke on her popcorn mid-movie--and once the lights go up, she's dead . . .
When tests reveal Elise's popcorn was poisoned, Detective Sam Holden eyes her husband as the guilty party. Charlene doesn't believe Darren would hurt his wife--even if his company's specialty seasoned salts were sprinkled on the fatal snack. But who else had a motive to do something so unsavory? With a little help from Jack, the handsome ghost who haunts her B&B, Charlene delves into the ill-fated couple's past. And the more she learns, the more Charlene wonders if this time, she's bitten off more than she can chew . . .

I’ve been with Mrs. Morris since the very beginning and coming into the next book in the series was like coming home to visit old friends. I missed the Salem B&B, Charlene, Jack (the B&B ghost) and even Silva (the cat)! This was another perfect spooky season read…🍁🍂 🎃👻
My Favorite Moments:
💎 There’s a whole lot of Charlene and Avery time in this book. Avery has become Charlene’s little sidekick! I love it!
💎 The 1941 Wolfman film references!! I really need to watch all the classic Universal monster movies!
💎The old fashioned cinema 🎥 🍿
💎 All the mental health awareness references
💎 The very thoughtful ending…
💎 The first time something supernatural was actually really considered a potential suspect in a mystery! That was exciting!
I have to give it to the authors with this one though. This mystery turned me upside down; it had all these twists and turns! The ending was so unexpected!! It kept me on my toes the entire time. It was a lot of fun! My initial suspect turned out to be innocent 😇 though! Haha! Oops! I never in a million years would have figured out who was behind it all!
I can’t wait for the next installment! There are many things left open… I can’t wait to see about Jack’s new venture, Avery’s exciting future, and detective Sam’s fate with his career and his friendship with Charlene. I already have Book 8 preordered for February 2024, and I saw it features a mermaid!! I’m so excited! I hope the Traci Wilton duo keeps writing because I’ll keep collecting and reading. I’m also still dreaming of the day Hallmark finally makes this into a TV series!😂
The coziness just gets better and better with each installment and I already want the next installment. This series is always PERFECT for Spooktober as it is based in Salem, MA, has ghosts, a small town setting and of course mysterious murders to be solved.
This time around Charlene finds herself in the middle of a murder that happened while at the movies. All the regular players are back but we also get to see more of Avery, which I love. I'm especially liking where this is leading with Charlene and Sam but have to wonder about Jack and where he will fit. Always enjoy his parts in the books.
This can be read stand-alone but after you read one you will want to go back and grab the rest. It's just fun and spooky and I'm here for it all. If you have ever been on the fence about cozy mysteries but really want to try one ... grab this series (or even this book) and enjoy!
I sincerely appreciate Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
I really like the series I came into being able to get this one, but I have missed the past few, I will have to go try and find them and catch up ! Great ending 🌟
"Mrs. Morris and the Wolfman" the 7th instalment in the Salem B&B Mystery series by Traci Wilton. This is my favourite one so far, I just loved it!
Charlene Morris is taking a night away from her Salem, Massachusetts, B&B--and its resident ghost--to enjoy a spooky double-bill, until murder upstages the evening . . .
What can I say, so much intrigue this go around and all centered around the reopening of Salems classic movie theatre that’s featuring Lon Chaney in The Wolfman. I love visiting Salem and Charlene’s B&B with its resident ghost Jack and her B&B family. I love all the characters Charlene, Jack, Minnie, Sam and Avery.
The mystery was interesting, well plotted, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing till the very end. There was sub mysteries to figure out as well, especially surrounding Darren. I definitely was surprised by the ending and can’t wait for book 8 to see what happens next!!!
I highly recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.
I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Kensington Books and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was not my favorite of the series. I'm not sure where the disconnect was but I found this to be a struggle to get through. The dialogue was awkward in places, particularly when Avery or her friend are speaking, and I can't remember the last time since the 90s I've heard sex referred to as "the wild thing"; a lot of the dialogue seemed forced and unnatural. The Jack thing is still a little disturbing, although the romantic leanings have diminished but I don't feel any chemistry between Charlene and Sam. Hoping this was just a one-off and the next one will work better for me.
I received a copy from #NetGalley for an honest review.
A renovated movie theater readies to open in Salem with a varied bill of classic movies on certain nights, as well as current films. Unfortunately during the soft open attended by Charlene Morris, someone chokes on popcorn and later does. This leads to another case where our astute heroine gets involved in the case along with her stalwart posse, including Jack , the resident ghost in her B&B. This excellent series manages to creatively ground the paranormal elements while serving up intriguing mysteries. As with all the best cozy series, the mystery is balanced by the ambiance and secondary characters that you care about and want to keep revisiting. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
#MrsMorrisandtheWolfman #NetGalley is another fun cozy mystery in this quirky series. Charlene Morris owns a bed and breakfast in Salem, MA and while attending a double feature at the newly renovated movie theatre, Charlene finds herself wrapped up in another murder investigation. The new owners of theatre are a husband and wife team, but when one of them becomes a murder victim, Charlene and her ghostly friend Jack find themselves investigating. Charlene seems to really like Jack, and I'm really not sure how this will play out, since so far she's the only one who sees him. I do enjoy the books and the characters, and I'm always happy to recommend this series to other cozy mystery fans. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
I have been reading this series since the beginning, and I’m loving it. This latest installment is probably one of my favorites so far. Charlene is busy still with running her B&B, but of course it doesn’t take long for her to get involved in another murder. This one kept me guessing almost to the end, and when I finally figured it out right before it was revealed, I was tickled at how the author did it. Not only that, but I was also happy with how it ended in the epilogue. I can’t say too much about that, but I can say I am so ready to read the next one. This has become one of my favorite series. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I like this series, it’s quirky and fun. I thought the whole wolfman thing is very well done, although I did guess who the killer was well before the end. I liked the solution of what to do with the theater. #MrsMorrisandtheWolfman #NetGalley
This may be my favorite installment in this series. I loved the story, with a classic movie feel and Phantom of the Opera vibes. And the resolution for this was astounding. I wasn’t expectant of it. Fantastically written and a fun page turner.
Good cozy mystery with an interesting mystery. During the showing of the old classic The Wolf Man, the wife of the theater's owner chokes on her popcorn and dies. Her husband becomes the main suspect when it turns out that she was poisoned. There are only a few suspects, but it seems plausible that any one of them are guilty. There are plenty of similarities between the suspects and the "wolfman" and references to the "dual nature of man" - those who hide things about themselves. My only concern is that ghost Jack has stayed too long. He needs to let mc Charlene get on with her life.
Charlene Morris attends the opening of a new movie theater in town and is shocked when the wife of the couple who opened it dies at the soft opening. When it turns out to be poisoning, Charlene can’t help but get try to figure out who would do this to the woman, who recently returned to Salem after years away. When the husband becomes the prime suspect, even Jack finds himself agreeing with Charlene that the man loved his wife too much and would not hurt her. As the story of Darren’s life begins to come out, Charlene’s confidence in the man’s innocence begins to waiver a bit, but she continues to pursue the truth, even if it’s the last thing she does.
It’s hard to believe this is the seventh book in this series already. Each and every entry has been fabulous and I adore Silva, Jack and the rest of the gang that support Charlene in her new life in Salem. Being a Salem lover myself, I often can see and smell the city as I’m reading the books. The author also writes another of my favorite series set in Scotland, so it’s safe to say she’s one of my must read authors! If you haven’t read a book by this author yet, this is a great one to start with. Each one reads fine as a stand alone to get your started.
This was a really fun book I enjoyed reading about the opening of a theater in town showing Monster Movies from the 30's. There was a lot of excitement in the book Charlene runs a B&B in Salem, Massachusetts and she has a resident ghost Jack who was a Doctor before he died. She attends the pre-opening of the Theater which is playing the Lon Chaney Film the Wolf Man as a double feature and also introduces the seasoned salts that the Owners Darren and Elise are promoting as a topping for their popcorn. Disaster strikes at the theater as Elise who has eaten the seasoned popcorn starts choking and dies they find out the seasoning has been tampered with and she was poisoned. Darren is suspected as the killer as he is her husband and they were seen having an argument before the opening. I really enjoyed reading this book it kept my attention long into the night I could not put it down. I highly recommend this book and I am delighted to have read an amazing book by the Author Traci Wilton. This is the seventh book in the series and it looks like I have a lot of reading to do.
Charlene Morris is taking a night away from her Salem, Massachusetts, B&B—and its resident ghost—to enjoy a spooky double-bill, until murder upstages the evening . . .
Saturday night at the movies has some added flair now that Darren and Elise Shultz are reopening one of Salem’s classic theaters. But things get hairier than expected when Elise starts to choke on her popcorn mid-movie—and once the lights go up, she’s dead . . . I love the interaction between Charlene and her ghost it's like an old married couple. It seems when she says she is taking a break things pop up and she is all in on solving a murder. Trying to prove the husband's innocence is her main goal. Through it all she keeps us guessing it was hard to put dow,
Charlene, Jack and Avery are on the case when the new theater owner’s wife is murdered on a friends and family night viewing of The Wolfman before the theater opens to the public. The signs point to Darren, the husband, because she was murdered with the gourmet salts that he sells for his main business. There others who could be the murderer. Matthew the theater manager, Franco the projector operator, Patty the sister and more.
Like all the Mrs. Morris books, this was a fun read with clues that point in many directions until the ah-ha moment. I really enjoy this series. I hope there are more books to come.
"Mrs. Morris and the Wolfman (Salem B&B #7)" by Traci Wilton has Charlene, and a little bit Avery, investigating a poisoning by fancy popcorn salt. Honestly, I kind of want to try some of the popcorn salts that were mentioned in this. They really sounded good. Also, that theater layout sounded amazing. Comfy chairs with little tables between them would be great.
Avery is now in her summer break between high school and college. She's officially living at Charlene's. Charlene has the thought a couple of times that she's not sure what her and Avery's relationship should actually be called. I say she should give her a funky mom-like nickname. Something like "Mama Dos." She's as good as adopted her and you can technically adopt teens/adults. It's just less heard of and doesn't have to be official, but what if Avery ever needed legal family. Say for hospital stuff? Just saying.
The mystery had me all over the place with who it could be. There was one character that kept getting brought up and had me thinking something was up with them. However, this time there were less side scandals going on that were illegal. That was nice. Especially since it was just as bouncy trying to figure out the one crime.
Charlene Morris owns a b&b in Salem, Ma. She has a ghost friend, Jack who helps her with mysteries. Charlene and her sort of foster daughter go to a soft opening of the newly renovated Movie theater of their friends Elise & Darren. Elise starts to feel ill and starts to choke on her popcorn. An ambulance is called and Elise died at the hospital. Her husband is the prime suspect. Charlene starts to ask questions and does some investigating. She finds out a lot of secrets and hauntings are going on at the theatre.
This is my first book in the series. But I was able to read and connect with the characters. I love the paranormalness of the book. I'm excited to read more of this series and I'm glad to have found it.
I would give this book 4.5 stars if it was an option. This is the 7th book in the Salem B&B series. I really enjoy this series and love Charlene, the main character. Sometimes I feel that the way she gets people to open up to her is not realistic, so that is why I'm not all in on this one.
The story is about one of the owners of a new movie theater being murdered on opening night. I enjoyed the story line and the process of the mystery; however, I had things pretty well figured out before the conclusion. I wasn't disappointed but sometimes it's nice to be surprised.
The series itself is a delight and I do really enjoy reading about Charlene, her B & B ghost Jack, and the other characters that have become so familiar.
I recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys a little magic with their mystery.
This series is fantastic it's easy to read a couple hours each book you will enjoy the story line and all the characters are fantastic she has some great things that happened and some sad things that happened but it's worth the read I read everything from erotic historical romance Aliens dragons I read it all so I come across this by accident and I love it so I'm going on to the next book I hope you enjoy it as much as I did I love it recommended Aliens dragons I read it all so I come across this by accident and I love it so I'm going on to the next book I hope you enjoy it as much as I did I love it recommend it easy read
After her husband's untimely death, Charlene Morris moved to Salem, Massachusetts and opened a B&B. It's doing well, and between herself and her employees, she has a thriving business. She also has a resident ghost, Dr. Jack Stratford, who was murdered on the property and is a permanent guest. Only she and her cat, Silva, can see the handsome man. But Charlene doesn't mind. Jack is good company, and he's helped her solve a few murders in the past.
When there's a new theater opening in town, Charlene is one of the guests since she's friends with the owners, Darren and Elise Shults. Darren, owner of a specialty salt company, is finally realizing his dream of owning a classic movie theater. On this night, they're showing The Wolfman with Lon Chaney, Jr. as the haunted hero, a true classic. But halfway through the film, his wife Elise seems to be choking, and is sent to the hospital. But it's too late, and Elise is dead. With Detective Sam Holden looking at Darren as the prime suspect, Charlene has a hard time believing it. The problem is, Sam tells her to stay out of the investigation, while she knows that she can't. Now it's up to her, Jack, and Charlene's young employee Avery to find a killer...
This is the seventh book in the series and I have read them all. Probably because I love the fact of a resident ghost, and he and Charlene have what I would call chemistry, even if it's other-worldly. Jack is definitely taken with Charlene, and while Sam is human, the thing I like most about Jack is he doesn't try to change Charlene, whereas Sam is always nagging her to stop doing things. Jack accepts her for who she is, even if he doesn't like it. He seems more suited to her (and I wish there were some way Jack could come back to the earthly plane to be with her). Ah, well. Just my thoughts.
While Charlene is trying her best to covertly find out who is a killer, she looks into Darren and Elise's pasts to see if she can garner any clues. It is one word uttered by one of Darren's employees that sets her off on a new trail that might just lead her to the reasons behind the murder; but finding the person who killed Elise might just be a dead end.
What follows is an intense search for a killer that brings Charlene into trying not only to take care of her B&B guests, but help Darren prove his innocence. The clues are there if you look for them, but they aren't easy to find. I recognized some of what was going to occur, but not everything. The book fascinated me to the point that I read it in one sitting (not even stopping to eat); and the ending was such a surprise and yet at the same time rather sad and bittersweet. It was probably one of the best books (although I love them all) and I cannot wait to read the next in the series. This talented writer has me completely hooked. Highly recommended.
I was given an advance copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley but this in no way influenced my review.
[On a side note, I love the old Universal horror films and own every one of them, which I watch around Halloween. If you watch them in order, beginning with Dracula and Frankenstein, they tell a story that segues in each ascending film, including The Wolfman and culminating with House of Dracula. It's a binge watch that has a very good ending. Each film connects to the next. Food for thought and I hope that I have given at least a few people a new enjoyment of older films (and I also can quote the movie lines. Yes, I'm a book nerd and a classic film nerd).]
Mrs. Morris and the Wolfman by Traci Wilton takes us to Salem, Massachusetts where Charlene and Avery are getting ready to view Lon Chaney in The Wolfman. Darren and Elise have renovated (resurrected) an old movie theater. The Spellbound Movie Theater will feature Darren’s creative seasoned salts which will be served with fresh popped popcorn and locally made soft pretzels. Mrs. Morris and the Wolfman is the seventh A Salem B&B Mystery and it can be read as a standalone for those new to the series. The main characters (Charlene, Avery, Jack) are developed and realistic. I love Avery’s enthusiasm. Avery is going to make an excellent police officer (I have a feeling that it will not take her long to become a detective). I normally have an easy time reading the books in this series, but I found myself struggling this time around. There were some aspects of the book that I found disturbing (not in a fun way). I enjoyed the descriptions of Charlene’s B&B as well as the movie theater. The mystery was unique for a cozy mystery as well as a little odd. I liked the way the victim was killed. There are a large handful of suspects. The details of the crime such as the suspects and how the victim died are rehashed multiple times (I got it the first time). The crime can be solved long before the reveal if you pay close attention to the details (an episode of CSI that I watched many years ago gave me a leg up). I did find the reveal to be a tad longwinded and dramatic. There was one aspect that I wish had not been included. I did tire of Sam warning Charlene and Avery to stay away from the theater and suspects (wild horses could not keep them away from trouble). I enjoyed Jack’s input. His background was helpful. The epilogue helped wrap things up. I am probably in the minority, but I am not a fan of Sam for Charlene. I feel she needs a modern version of Jack. Someone who appreciates her intelligence and enthusiasm for mysteries (not someone who tells her to keep away from the whodunits). I like how the author tied the mystery to Lon Chaney’s The Wolfman. Mrs. Morris and the Wolfman is a hair-raising tale with a magnificent movie theater, appetizing popcorn, a poisoned partner, ghost stories, tasty seasoned salts, startling suspects, and a howling whodunit.
IT'S REALLY HARD TO RATE THIS ONE. GO IN FOR THE COZY-SIDE, THE PARANORMAL-SIDE AND THE INTRIGUE OF THE MYSTERY... THE REVEAL... LEFT ME PONDERING MANY THINGS.
SERIES PREMISE: In this series we follow Charlene Morris, a B&B owner in Salem, Massachusetts. In this book: Charlene has taken her so-to-speak Daughter, Avery to the Theatre for a screaning of Wolfman. Both Mr Darren Schultz and his wife, Elise are both proud of what they've accomplished after re-opening the run-down theatre and Clara, Darren's supplier is thrilled that everyone will be sampling her and Darren's seasoned-salts, samples being offered to all who came for the show. Things are going well. Up until Elise starts coughing. Elise seems sweet to Charlene, but then she starts acting arrogant regarding her sister, while also cold to her employees who feel like they might be getting fired. Not too much later Elise has a popcorn kernel stuck in her throat. She coughs up blood and dies. But why? How could a piece of popcorn cause this death? Charlene, despite Sam's warnings, and Jack, are on the case.
THOUGHTS: Ok let's get the massive con out the way first. Keeping this as spoiler free as possible: I don't think the actual mystery held up to fair-play standards. Unless you are incredibly sharp at catching certain things, you probably wont work out the mystery before the reveal. This, to me, is a let-down as I was actively trying to solve the case along-side Charlene. In saying that: I felt that the cozy-theme was beautiful. Avery found a boyfriend and that made me happy. The Paranormal Side held up in atmosphere, which I appreciate more than actual paranormal activity for this series. There was a lot of drama and I loved that too. But the mystery itself was so incredibly intruiging from start to end. Again, I say 'to the end' because the reveal showed me that there was no way for someone like me to fully solve the case. I docked a star for my view of lack of fair-play standards, but could only warrant a 1 star deducation for it. I highly recommend going into this book for the mystery, the drama and a massive twist - rather than trying to actually determine what happened. All in all another great book in the series.
The cover is what drew me to this new-to-me series/book. Having not read previous books in the series, I went into it blind but had no trouble sorting out who was who and the relationships quickly. Now, true, I rather wished I knew more about how the ghostly Jack came to be not just there but visible to Charlene Morris but, hey, something tells me I'll be delving back into this series to play catch up soon. As it was, simply knowing he was there, no one else could see him, and he had been a doctor when alive were enough to satisfy me. As for Avery, her sheer energy pretty much wore me out. Ah, youth. Toss in some fun guests, one of whom found out fishing isn't always a leisurely activity, all of whom we're nicely introduced to, and you'll feel right at home.
The mystery itself was intriguing. Who killed Elise during the theater's reopening bash and showing of Lon Chaney's "The Wolfman"? And what's with all the talk of werewolves and ghosts? Well, the story is set in Salem, so such talk is perhaps not that unusual but, whoa, where is all that anguished howling coming from? How could an evening of popcorn and old movies go so wrong? Could the bouquet of wolf's bane have somehow been the weapon? The spouse is always the obvious first suspect, which Darren surely doesn't help with his insistence on opening the theater up again asap. Why is he so secretive about his past? A worker in fear of losing their job? Oh, so many suspects, not to mention red herrings. Charlene, with her seemingly unstoppable need to help others, has her work cut out for her if she hopes to help Sam, the detective, figure out what's going on, not to mention subtly share herbal knowledge Jack is somehow able to find. Did you know ghosts can use computers?
Bottom line, although it took me a bit to fall into the rhythm of the book, especially since the viewpoint seemed to switch periodically, I enjoyed my intro to this series. I mean, who doesn't love a spooky mystery? Thanks #NetGalley and #KensingtonBooks - #KensingtonCozies for inviting me to spend some time at Charlene's B&B. I'll be back.
Mrs. Morris and the Wolfman is the seventh book in Traci Wilton’s Salem B&B Mystery series. (Traci Wilton is the pen name for the collaboration of seasoned authors Traci Hall and Patrice Wilton.) Charlene Morris is a young widow who has established her bed and breakfast in Salem, Massachusetts, and has discovered that she is joined in her home by its late resident, Dr. Jack Strathmore. This book takes place in the summer following book six, Mrs. Morris and the Pot of Gold.
Darren Schultz, who immigrated from Germany after his seasoned salts made him a fortune, has relocated to Salem, where his wife Elise was born. Her sister Patty still resides in the family home and runs the family bakery, which she solely inherited from their parents.
Darren is using his funds to renovate the old Spellbound Movie Theater with plans to show old horror movies, his favorite, modern romances, and current releases in the three different theaters. He is working closely with Matthew Sinchuk, theater manager, and Franco Lourdes, film expert, to bring about a soft opening in advance of the grand opening. Charlene and her young helper Avery are attending this soft opening, as is Klara Maxwell, Darren’s sales rep. Also in attendance are Elise, Patty, and Seth Gamble who works the concession stand but, more importantly, is Avery’s boyfriend.
The soft opening is uneventful at the onset with viewing of the original Wolfman movie with personalized snack trays including the seasoned salt each person has chosen. It is at intermission that things go awry as Elise becomes ill, then dies in the presence of this group.
Now we have a mystery to solve! With detective Sam Holden warning Charlene away and Jack supporting her with research, a wonderfully woven mystery evolves. This is so well plotted, with many twists and unexpected events, that this seventh book will certainly not disappoint. This is another installment to a great book series. I very much enjoyed this book and do recommend it and this series.
When Caroline and Avery attend the opening of Darren and Alyssa‘s movie theater they’re very excited they’re going to see the Wolfman. Right when they arrived so does Claire Maxwell, Darren‘s salt agent from Chicago and she has a bouquet of Wolfbane with her. Even though Charlene thought of the bad idea to bring poisonous flowers she knows that doesn’t the only reason Elise has a disdainful tone to her voice when addressing the woman. Later on that night when Elise is talking to her sister Patty about the problems her and Darren are having Charlene blows it off but later on when Elise passes out and they soon find out she was murdered the innkeeper starts to rethink the whole night. It seems everyone is a suspect including Avery‘s special friend who worked at the theater Seth and Elisa‘s sister Patty who owns a bakery in Salem when they find out who did it however it will be after another tragic event. There is so much to this book and I didn’t want to give anything away because I love these books and I love Charlene and Sam I love the resident ghost Jack I think Tracy Wilton has a great knock for making lovable characters but I do think the culprit in this book came out of nowhere and I almost fell disappointment but loving these books the way I do I would still definitely highly recommend it they’re fun sweet and deadly my favorite combination I want to think Net Galley and the publisher for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
This is the 7th installment in the Salem B&B mystery series. Charlene Morris runs a B&B in Salem and since she is relative new business owner she has been recruited to help welcome new business owners in Salem. She has worked with new theater owners Elise and Darren Shultz and she is attending the soft opening of the theater which will be showing “The Wolfman”. Charlene likes the couple and they have incorporated their other business of specialized seasoned salt and is featuring it with the movie theater popcorn. During the movie Elise begins coughing and it appears she is choking but later it is determined that she was poisoned and Charlene is now involved in yet another murder. With Darren as the top suspect, Charlene begins to try and help prove his innocence. She knows he is hiding something but does not believe he would murder his wife. Was it his top salesperson, business partner at the theater or even Elise’s sister. Lots of secrets to uncover and as Charlene gets to the bottom of tangled story. This was definitely a page turner and kept you guessing who was behind the murder and then you learn one secret after another about all the suspects so it keeps you guessing. Really enjoy this series and look forward to the next steps in Charlene’s life. Highly recommend.
Charlene is always happy to see new businesses thrive in Salem; therefore, she's excited to attend a double-feature at the newly reopened theater. The showing is the classic Wolfman movies. It's a chance for owners Darren and Elise Shultz to have a soft opening of the theater and showcase the specialty seasoning salts that Darren built his fortune on. However, when Elise chokes on her popcorn and dies at the hospital, it's determined she was poisoned. The police gravitate to her spouse as the primary suspect, but Charlene can't believe Darren would kill her; he loved his wife. With the help of her resident ghost, Jack, Charlene starts to dig into Darren and Elise's lives, in an effort to find who would have wanted to murder Elise and frame Darren for the crime.
Charlene was pleasantly UNodious in this one. She wasn't quite as over the top with her investigation, and she even dug her heels in when someone wanted her to go to the theater after it had been closed down. Jack continues to be a spectral sphincter. New characters were introduced, and we got to reconnect with familiar ones. The plot kept me engaged.
A marked improvement over recent books in the series--four stars.
What a delight to read Tracie Wilton's newest addition to her Salem B&B series, #MrsMorrisandtheWolfman #NetGalley. This delightful paranormal cozy series is at the top of my list. I have enjoyed each one, but this one is the most suspenseful and action oriented yet! Charlene is supporting her new friends' theater venture with one of her chosen family members when the unthinkable happens. She is pulled into the investigation against the wished of her resident ghost, Jack and Sam--the flirty Detective friend. The characters show growth in every addition, the setting remains warm and inviting---despite the spooky vibes, and this mystery is the most difficult to solve. I had my suspicions but I did not guess correctly. This can be read as a standalone, though I urge you to begin at the start in order to become acquainted with the characters and all their quirky habits. Thank you #NetGalley, #KensingtonCozies #KensingtonBooks #TracieWilton for the opportunity to read and honestly review this book. I can't wait to tell my friends about it!
Princess Fuzzypants here: I have enjoyed the relationship between Charlene and her ghost Jack. Too bad he is dead because they would make the ideal couple and have a deep connection. She must make do with the very much alive detective Sam. While he tries to discourage her from investigating murders, when Elise is poisoned right in front of her, she is once more on the hunt for a killer. And she is going to have quite a few really viable suspects including her husband whom Charlene believes is innocent. There might be evil ghosts in the theatre that Elise and her husband have refurbished. This is, of course, Salem so anything is possible.
There are some definitely off=beat characters but it is the group of regulars who help Charlene run her B&B who truly make the series for me. I love the interactions and the way they have grown into a family. When I read about the welcome her guests receive, it makes me want to book a room. Alas, I shall have to be satisfied with reading about it. Five purrs and two paws up.
