James has always dreamed of a rustic life in the countryside, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. When he inherits a cabin in a charming little town, his dreams might just come true!
But rustic isn’t boring! There are plenty of things for James to do. The pretty blonde shopkeeper has some work for him, and the cute redhead farm girl has a foxy fox in her chicken coop that needs dealing with.
And then there’s the town itself. It appears quaint and quiet, but it has a magical history and more than a few mysterious inhabitants.
Oh, and there’s a cat girl in James’s cabin. She’s gonna teach him magic. Probably should’ve mentioned that first…
Note: This slice of life story contains graphic scenes of intimacy and unconventional relationships centered on the male main character. Also contains cat girls, fox girls, and dragonkin.
No character development, world building or simple farm life, just shallow eroticism. DNF @ 67%.
Don't be fooled there isn't any slice of life to be found here, instead what you'll find here is an MC who is perpetually aroused, going from scene to scene bedding equally horny women. There isn't any romance or relationship building (the women just love him immediately), the magic doesn't require any effort (the MC just spectates a memory of his ancestor's and then can use said magic) and the MC spends most of the novel cutting trees. A city kid learning about magic, monster girls and farming without world ending stakes is premise that appeals to me on a primal level, the execution however soured the entire experience.
Okay this book is awful. And OMG stop with using the word MILF all the time. It is disgusting. This author must have mommy issues and is very immature. The word slut and slutty is used so often it is like the writer is a youth who just learned a naughty word for the first time. Don't waste your time reading. I won't be buying any sequels.
This book was very disappointing. It feels like it's trying too hard at every turn. A woman running a general store dressed like a school girl for no reason? The vast majority of it is sex, with what passes for story in between being forgettable and serving as little more than filler. Also, a lot of it consists of the MC daydreaming of more sex. Details are constantly ignored to simplify things and move on. Post-introduction, every character introduced is a woman clearly intended for the MC to lay.
My main issue with harem books is the instant relationships.
I have read another series from the author that was about an apocalypse. That kind of stressor justifies instant connections. There is nothing here like that. The hemming and hawing from the MC do not set him up to make his choices at all believable. The whole story is incredibly forced.
The constant use of the words "slutty" and "juicy" was just too much. And the guy is just a dork. All the women do is prepare the food, do the dishes, wash his clothes. He might ask to help but they always say no. Meanwhile he can barely control himself.
They are like subservient creatures that cater to his every desire and whim.
It might tickle your fancy, but this is not my cup of tea.
It's okay. But the fact that the MC just tells the women in his life "this is what's happening" is kind of annoying. And I get the whole male power fantasy aspect of this, but there is a way to write that without it coming across so...alpha male. And the fact that every single sex scene reads like a bad porn. I ended up skipping over most of them. I don't even feel the need to read these further.
Ugh, I'm two hours into the audiobook and I had to give it up. I would like to say the premise could be interesting but nothing has happened except for the usual teen boy masturbatory fantasy harem nonsense. I'm not a harem story hater by any means but it needs to at least add to the story or enhance a plot in a somewhat meaningful way.
Not worth the time. I made it to chapter 9 hoping it would improve but alas, it only got worse. Pretty much the definition of a train wreck of teenage male hormones trying to write a "spicy" book.
The potential is there, the experience and talent is lacking. Sorry Jack, I think you have a great idea, but you need to work on actually bringing it to life.
Really more of a badly written erotic tale. I was never sure there was a plot line and when I started skipping the sex scenes I just gave up. Don't think I missed anything.
First time reading anything from this author, I must say what a thrilling ride…no pun… I gotta say though that our mc is kinda dense at times… there are things I didn’t understand… it was stated he wasn’t hurting for money, but hes obviously not doing stellar like his other family especially considering his mode of transportation and also it seems that he was looking for some sort of inheritance from his dads estate but when he got it he would rather throw it away so it could be sold piecemeal to family that does not get along with him. It took his sister in law to convince him to go and at least check things out and think things over before they sell it off piece by piece and give HIS inheritance up to those vultures… are you daft bruv? Also I enjoy a good slice of life, nothing but the good ole day to day living… no world to save, no intense high drama, just a dude, his magic, his cabin and his babes 😂. That’s some basic dude stuff right there my gents. Every male fantasy. Be able to live out in the woods in peace, have comforts and a plot of their own to work that’s close to relative civilisation when you need the basics and some good women to share the good life with. I’m jelly! I’d need the internet though 😂 how else could I watch Yellowstone hahaha but that being said this is brilliant. I’m enjoying it. Onto the next book! Onward lads!
James inherits a cabin in a town called Tour, which oddly is also the county name and seat. While over 400 pages, it is block paragraphs with blank lines, and an overabundance of section break markers that also take space; novel length, but not as much as it initially appears. In this first book, we briefly meet James brother and his wife, the latter who encourages James to at least check the cabin in Tours, while his brother was dismissive and inherited the family business outright. I'm wondering if there's more to the sister-in-law later on. We meet Sara, Lucy, Corrine, Astra, and get a glimpse of Kesha. Plenty of subsequent novels in the series, so that's an incentive.
A few personal issues with what author considers sexy, but I feel certain types of sex require clean up afterward for safety reasons, and gagging does nothing for me. But that's me. I just skimmed some scenes. Intrigued. I'll probably buy book 2.
I'm giving this book three stars because I feel that it is an average type book. The main idea I find has a lot of potential. The grandson inherits his grandfathers cabin in a small town located in the forests of the New England area. While living there he finds out that his lineage connects his blood line to that of a High Mage and that he can look through his ancestors memories and learn magic spells from his ancestors. This being a harem type book, it would make sense that the town next to his cabin be inhabited with only women. However there is really no romance, very little effort in the way of him gaining the love of the women of the town. They just seem to all want to have sex with him. The cat-woman familiar found in his basement I can understand her automatically wanting to jump into bed with him, especially after him casting a spell making her his familiar. The redheaded farm girl next door had only spent a half a day with him before she was ready to jump into a foursome with him. I'm also not into anal sex and statistically less that 40% of women like anal sex. I would like more story, romance and action, then a meandering story between sex scenes.
The series as a whole is repetitive in its content. The same things are explained over and over, including the gibberish for the "spells". There is little to no attention paid to the consistency of the passage of time, time passes, but it could be one day or two months. No descriptions of time passing beyond the character waking up the "next day" take place, yet he goes from summer to winter to spring.
The underlying premise was neat. Liked the magic and unique world it builds, but too much of the little story is taken up with the MC getting yet another woman to fall in love and have sex with him in two days, describing the characters eating meals, or detailing house renovations.
If youre looking for anything deeper than "stuff happens, MC does thing, sex, repeat" dont bother. Very shallow world building and character development. But if you want some smut with a light candy coating story shell thats an easy quick read, give it a try.
the story was interesting I like the idea of the author had it was good to learn more about what kind of world the main character is living in and I am looking forward to finding out more about his world. I like the characters are interesting my only complaint is the main character he is smart which is a good thing and he's a nice person but he seems to get a little excited a little too easily for his age.it's a good thing he's a nice guy anyway that's why I gave the four star instead of five cuz the main character while there's good things about him he seems a little bit too excitable to me for his maturity.
James inheritance changes his life completely for the better an cabin in the wilderness .
James the black sheep of the family sits as his brother an sister-in-law ,an the rest of the relatives in the family gets all the inheritance divided up among them selves with nothing left over including the family business as everybody else leaves he sits their with nothing until his sister-in-law ask what about James he gets nothing the lawyer relooks the will an says at the bottom he gets a cabin in the wilderness for his happiness in life. So he leaves to check out the cabin hoping for the best .recommend reading excellent book .
This could have been a better story. I really like slice of life stories and how a MC builds their life, abilities, and base/house. And this sort of goes that way. Sometimes how things get done are glossed over, and some times there is great detail. I think in this sort of story, more details are better since that is the point of a slice of life.
But honestly the most annoying part of this series is the magic incantations. These magic words are a paragraph long and sounds like a mix of German and the refrain of that old "Witchdoctor" song (ooh ee ooh ahh ahh, ting tang walla walla bing bang). And it is repeated EVERY TIME they cast a spell! Did I mention that some are a paragraph long? I suppose if you are reading a printed copy you could thankfully just skip this abominable paragraph, but if you are listening to the audiobook it is pure torture. You might think to just do it once then from then on just say "he cast the build spell" but frankly, even the first time is horrid! At least when the old TV show "Bewitched" did incantations, they weren't just a made up language written over and over as a mile long incantation (and in Bewitched some were clever and amusing)!
The last minor point is that this felt more like an internet porn story than a real novel. There is a lot of sex! It felt like a magical version of pokemon where the MC had to catch all the pretty girls in the town and have sex with them constantly. So if you want a lot of sex, this is the series.
New series from this author and it is a nice slow build book. The MC is slowly learning magic, with a different approach to learning spells which is a nice touch. Lots of harem not fade to black action that definitely keeps you interested. Want to see what happens in the next one.
Inheriting a cabin from his Dad, James discovers a magical place with incredible monster girls and willing women and NO OTHER MEN! Things are heating up with his sexy catgirl familiar, the hot MILF store owner and farmers daughter. James is living a dream. Bring on book two!
This is an excellent story, perfect for a casual read without the constant need for action so common in haremlit these days. I truly enjoyed the adventure of finding a home with a dash of magic. I hope to see more expansion of the magic in the story and the continuing adventure of exploring a new small community of hidden supernatural characters.
James is a good but lustful man. Having inherited a cabin in the forest near a tiny town, he meets beautiful girls who tug at his heart as well as other parts of his anatomy. He must decide whether to stay in this idyllic setting or go back to his apartment and job in the city. I like the humor, magic system, and lust/love. I look forward to next book.
I really enjoyed how fast paced this was especially as a Slice of Life book! The relationships are fun and I’m enjoying all the different characters. This mysterious city with magic and no men is gonna be fun to explore! Overall, a great start and I can’t wait for more to come!
Pretty good quick read. Liked the magic system and the characters, but everything moved pretty fast and the Mc just accepted the supernatural very fast. Would like to read the next one.
I didn't know what to think at first, it was just a "okay, I'll give it a try but no high hopes" turns out I was wrong! This story is awesome and it's written so well. I found a new favorite and now I'm craving more
A very interesting and enjoyable blend of slice of life and adult fantasy storytelling!!! The characters introduced so far have been an amazing mix and a non OP MC is great!!!
Okay Mr Bryce, I love this story and the way it started was good. The flow of the way you brought in the characters made this read a great one for me. Keep it up Mr Bryce!!
Man I loved this book, different than any harem I read
So I love the fact that there was no bad guy no big evil no nothing. This is just a good romance. I don’t normally get down on romance but this one is really good. I highly recommend it.
It was am interesting book. In some ways it followed what I expected, in other it did not. The characters we interesting, maybe a little fantasy like in their behavior but it made Fire a story many a guy did liked. I so want to see how the story continues.
