It's the spiritual things I know.
And just like a tree,
Every day I'll help it grow.

I loved this sweet book! It takes the metaphor of growing our testimony like a tree, and focuses on simple actions children (and adults!) can do to nourish spirituality. I appreciated that it defined a testimony first, as "the spiritual things I know." The illustrations are adorable, and help visualize the connection between the two parts of the metaphor. The message that a testimony is something to be developed during a process of faithful choices is vital for our children to learn. and This is a wonderful book that is perfect for young to older Primary aged children. I'll be bringing our copy to church for my daughter to read during sacrament meeting on Fast Sundays especially. My Testimony Tree would make a great gift!

I’m always on the hunt for a great book that breaks down deep truths into easy to understand analogies for kids. This book does just that. It takes subjects like faith, testimony, repentance, and forgiveness and explains them in a beautifully simplistic way that small children will easily understand.

Taking the allegory from the scriptures of a small seed growing into a big strong tree, this book teaches how to nourish and grow your testimony, and what happens if it grows dim, or we make a wrong choice and need to repent. The darling illustrations and rhyming prose make it fun to read and listen to.

Highly recommend to parents and teachers looking for a wonderful way to explain a testimony, how it grows, and how to keep it strong. I wish I’d had this book as a resource when my kids were younger. I’d recommend for ages 3-8.

I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

SYNOPSIS
Using clever rhymes and adorable illustrations, this book teaches children (and adults!) how a testimony is like a tree; it can grow if we nourish it and wither or die if we don't. Other messages in the book include working together, asking for help, and repenting.

REVIEW
THINGS I LIKED
1. When I got this in the mail, I immediately brought it to the table and read it to my children. My toddler asked me to read it two more times right away (and he's done so again since then)!

2. Okay, let's talk about the illustrations. They capture the meaning of the words. I also think it's cute that the main girl has a little mole or freckle on her chin.

3. I like the way the illustrations and text alternate pages. That is, the text is on the left page with the illustration on the right page at first; and then you turn the page, and they swap; turn the page again, and it's back to the previous layout. Small detail but worth mentioning.

4. I like the examples of real testimony mixed in with the analogy. For instance, this is the third page: "At first my tree was tiny, with just a leaf or two. I knew that Jesus loved me, and Heavenly Father too." There are also plenty of examples of how we can grow a testimony (read the scriptures, do service, pray, etc.).

5. This book covers just about aspect of testimonies--starting out, growing, struggling, repairing, sharing, and committing--in a sweet and approachable way.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE AS MUCH
1. There were a couple of places where the rhythm didn't flow quite naturally for me.

CONTENT
1. No romance.

2. No swearing.

3. No substance use.

4. No violence.

5. Other: In one picture, two children are visibly angry at each other; however, the children then make up and work together.

BOTTOM LINE
If you have little ones in your life who are learning about testimonies, this would make a thoughtful gift and could serve as a conversation starter!

Many thanks to the author for the free copy in exchange for an honest review!

Honestly such a heart-warming picture book about growing your testimony “tree.” I loved the art, loved the poetic feel to the words. While this is geared more towards members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I do feel that members of any Christian-based faith would appreciate this one as well :)

This is a darling little book all about our testimonies of spiritual truths and how those testimonies grow and change throughout our lives. I love the gentle symbolism of the tree, how it requires planting and tender care, though we do sometimes forget or make mistakes. But we can always improve and try again. I also really enjoyed the rhyming cadence of the book. This is a book I know I will enjoy with my children over and over. I’m always so grateful when we can find a book that breaks down complicated spiritual truths into bite-sized, easily understandable truths.
And I absolutely adore the illustrations! Good illustrations always help tell the story with more meaning and depth, and Koa succeeds with that.
I would recommend this book for young children, or even older children who are trying to understand testimony better.

I love this tiny, yet powerful picture book. It is written in prose and gives very basic instructions and illustrations on how to grow a testimony.

It doesn't stop at how to plant a seed and grow a testimony. It talks about mistakes that can diminish a testimony and the steps that need to be taken how to care for and mend the tree.

The illustrations are adorable and are sure to capture the attention of a child. Kudos to the author and the illustrator on a job well done.

This is such a great book for breaking down what a testimony means and how children can grow and take care of their own. It takes beautiful parallels and puts them in terms for all ages to understand so no matter how young, or old, your child is, they can see the value of growing their own personal testimony.

Wilson has taken the parable of the seed in the scriptures and brought it to life in modern day with beautiful and colorful illustrations from Nicole Koa. Wilson's simple, beautiful writing combined with the illustrations provide children (and parents) a wonderful resource, and reminder on the importance of their testimony and even more so the power of maintaining it.

I would highly recommend this book for young children, and older, when you are teaching them of testimony and are searching for more understanding. This is a wonderful children's picture book with gospel themes to have in the home ready to read and enjoy. Parents, teachers and children will love this book.
