When the detective executes a search warrant of the ice factory, he finds the body of a known thief in the ice storage. Daisy Landish is a romance and contemporary fiction author, whose clean and sweet novellas have tugged at readers’ heartstrings around the world. When she’s not writing love stories, Daisy spends her time reading, hiking at dawn, and riding into the sunset on her horse, Rosebud.
This is my first Daisy Landish cozy mystery, but it won’t be my last! This is also the first Mike and Maddie mystery, but the book does mention cases they’ve solved in the last, so I’m not sure if they were supporting characters in another series, or if by mentioning them it let the reader know this wasn’t Mike and Maddie’s first case. Regardless, while the story is fairly short, the author still manages to pack a punch with detail, and hit the reader with surprises and twists. This is a fun story, and I look forward to reading more! I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.

With lots of twists and turns and humor and fantastic characters in Mike and Maddie, you will not want to put this one down. It is a short, book one in a series that is a well written, cozy murder mystery. There is a jewelry robbery and Detective Carson Luttrell finds a clue; a diamond in the ice factory. But it dead ends there. So he asks Mike and Maddie, his two amateur sleuths to help him. They brainstorm and go back and forth with some ideas. When they find a man who just happened to be their only suspect is found dead, things start to heat up. Will they find a murderer and the jewels? With so many twists and turns, you are surprised at the ending. I can't wait to see what Mike and Maddie will get into next. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Although it this looks to be the first book in the series, there is reference to previous cases they worked on together so not sure if this is a spinoff of another series.
Mike and Maddie are called in to help in a diamond heist case when one is found in an ice factory like a pun gone bad. Then when one of the main suspects is found dead in the freezer and only one person it could be, we are taken into more twists and turns as to how he actually died, who took the diamonds and where they really are.
I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Mike and Maddie come to the rescue when Detective Carson Lutrell is out of ideas in his investigation of a jewel heist. The only clue is found in an ice factory.
This series starter introduces Mike and Maddie and provides a glimpse into their relationship with Detective Lutrell. It will be interesting to see where the series goes from here. I received an advanced copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
A short and relatively simple mystery, but the plot was good and the characters were interesting. This is the first book in the series, introducing Mike and Maddie, but it does refer to some other cases solved in the past. Maybe these will come up in future books.
Well written and entertaining, this fun little cozy is a good way to spend an hour. Landish managed to pack suspects, twists and turns into this short mystery.
I received a complimentary copy which I then chose to review.
Detective Carson Luttrell has a case where a diamond was found at a ice factory. He gets the help of his two amateur sleuths Mike and Maddie. Maddie goes undercover to find more evidence. This formation helps Detective Carson to find the body of Willie Jayne and solve the case. A enjoyable and entertaining read. I received this book free and leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers.
On Thin Ice (Mike and Maddie Mysteries #1), my fourth enjoyable short (44 pages) read from author Daisy Landish that I finished in under an hour. The first in her Mike & Maddie Mysteries. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author, next up A Little Frosty (Mike and Maddie Mysteries #2). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018.
I’d been wanting to read this little series for a while now and was glad I finally got a chance. Carson, Mike and Maddie were a pretty awesome trio when it came to sleuthing. I loved Mike’s crazy sense of pun humor and how he liked to imagine storylines from pretty much anything. The book was short and to the point, but just when I thought I knew whodunit…I didn’t! I’ll be digging into the next book soon!
I enjoyed it. I have been finished for quite a while. I wish I could remember enough to say something useful about the story. I remember the ending did surprise me. I believe I finished it late at night and then of course said "oh I will write about this in the AM." Sadly I am good at thinking that, but not good at writing later in the AM! Cozy mysteries such as this one are good for when the news from the outside world is anxiety producing. They help me escape from reality!
Lots of back and forth delving to solve this mystery . Carson calls on Mike and Maddie to help him (when his solid clue shows no sign of thawing out to its natural conclusion ) a diamond is found at an ice plant while he’s investigating a diamond heist . This surely isn’t a coincidence
I received an advance copy of this book and my review is voluntarily in my own words
On Thin Ice is the first book in the Mike and Maddie Mysteries series. I rather thought this story was really well written cozy mystery. The characters are very realistic and relatable. The story is quite detailed for being so brief. I couldn't figure out what was going to happen next. I had to read to the end to understand the solved mystery. On to read the next one.
A short but satisfying mystery. A quick easy puzzle that introduced me to a trio of crime solvers. Carson is a police detective and Mike and Maddie are amatures who specialize in thinking outside of the box. Although only a short story there is an interesting crime and a good plot and solution. I look forward to other adventures from these investigators.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. I did not see this one coming! I love that Mike and Maddie are so "out there" with some of their ideas when brainstorming with the detective. They are so funny. It's very fast moving story line and the ideas are just flying. I can't wait to read more of this series.
A really well written cozy mystery. The characters are great. The story is great. I couldn't figure out what was going to happen next. I had to read to the end to understand the solved mystery. Well written.
Easy reading and enjoyable as Mike and Maddie aid the police once again, this time to discover a bag of missing diamonds. A murder also is discovered, but how was it done? - I received a review copy and freely leave this honest review.
If you are looking for a complex, involved mystery, this isn’t the story for you. However, if you are looking for a fun, short read with little drama and a quick resolution, this is the perfect story. This story is an ideal escape from everyday life.
Very reminiscent of Tommy and Tuppence by Agatha Christie and I really enjoyed it. Loved the story and characters and look forward to reading more about Maddie and Mike.
A very short story, but I enjoyed it. Likeable characters, nice twist. I received a free copy of this book. I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.
A cute and entertaining cozy mystery that is a fun easy read. A few twists and turns with unexpected results keep you guessing. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to cozy mystery lovers!
The characters were likable. The story takes you along to first find the murderer and then to solve the mystery of the missing ice. Very enjoyable read.
Book 1, Maddie is bored and wants to help Detective Carson solve the diamond heist, already having a suspect in mind. The investigation is finding proof the ice factory manager committed the crime. There are character perspectives from Maddie, Mike, and Carson, so their insight into the case and each other are demonstrated to readers. This is an extremely short mystery story.
I received a free copy and am leaving a review voluntarily. Thank you to StoryOrigin and author.
