Gordon Carroll is the author of GUNWOOD USA. Gordon was raised at the foot of the great Rocky Mountains in Colorado. He joined the United States Marine Corps at eighteen and served for seven years achieving the rank of sergeant (selected for staff sergeant). After that he became a police officer in a small (wild) city nestled snugly in the middle of Denver Colorado before moving on to become a sheriff’s deputy. Because of his love for dogs he became a K9 handler, training and working three separate dogs over two decades (a hundred and twenty pound German Shepherd named JR, a ninety pound Belgian Malinois named Max and a fifty-six pound Belgian Malinois named Thor.
After years of telling stories to his children and friends his wife insisted he start writing some of them down. After that he was bitten by the dreaded writing bug and started sending stories to different publications. He was quickly published in several magazines in genres ranging from Sci-Fi to horror to mainstream and Christian before writing GUNWOOD USA, a fictionalized compilation of real life scenarios that he has seen, heard of or been involved with over his years in law enforcement and military service.
Gordon is a member of Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers (RMFW) and served on speaking panels for three years as well as performing K9 demos at the annual conferences.

Dog Eat Dog Book 7 (A Gil Mason Novel)
I found this book very entertaining from beginning to the very end! The old guys are as endearing as can be while the bad guys are just downright disgusting. I started it around midmorning and had to read all night just to see what happened next and I totally loved the ending!!

Another great book!!
Truly un-put-down-able. Gil Mason is the kind of slightly flawed hero every woman can love. Gordon Carroll has created him just enough larger than life to be fascinating, but not so much he's a comic book superhero. Max and Pilgrim are the real stars of the "Gil Mason" series anyway and to us dog lovers that's only as it should be. This book in the series beautifully portrayes Gil as a man of deep Christian faith and in doing so provides the readers with some of the best Christian teachings I've ever been exposed to. In spite of some tough questions as Gil never resorts to "...some things you just have to accept on faith..". Carroll writes some of the best fight scenes I've ever read and throughout the book, his understanding of a canine perspective Is delightful. And speaking of delightful, the sense of humor displayed is ... just enough.
I have read them (the Gil Mason novels) all and am anxiousy waiting for the next so, stop reading these reviews and get back to writing the next book!😃

I still really like this series, and with 'Dog Eat Dog', the fast pace is back. There are some errors that really should be caught during a beta read. For example, Ryan Floss and Hondo are both characters. The book reads 'Ryan and Floss' entered instead of Ryan and Hondo.
I've found similar errors in book 6 and book 7. I'm starting to lose faith in the proofreading. I'm not sure if I'll actually continue because I don't know what I'd find in future books.
I'm sorry, Mr Carroll. Book 7 ended with a couple of interesting teasers. Too many times, I have difficulty following a story because of MS. I was able to see past errors in the last two books, but if they truly changed the meaning of a chapter or scenario, it could confuse me right out of the book.

Non-Stop Hell-Raising
This book is the 7th in a series that should be read in order. This book ties up several story arcs and opens a few more. The book is over 400 pages of non-stop action. A lesser author would have split the plot into 2 or 3 books. I am so glad that this author lets the story tell itself. The book stops at a reasonable place without cliffhangers which left this reader able to digest the story without being antsy to read the next episode. I would love to read 10 more of these. Having said that, the story did go in a direction I was hoping for and I want to read the next book soon!

Plot Twists Galore!
By far my favorite book of the Gil Mason series….at least until book 8! I absolutely love each character, especially Gill with his complex sense of ethics, and his (currently) estranged relationship with God, and his Father-in-law,. I worked inFederal Law Enforcement for around 25 years in Colorado Springs, and I love being able to picture in my mind the places he describes like Red Rocks, Royal Gorge, and Black Hawk…makes me long to move back to Colorado!

Dueling women
When a conniving woman--Gail-‐plots and schemes against her husband and his friends, murders them, and then frames the man, Gl, that she wants....things get nasty. Add two more women who love Gil, and you've got a...mess. But Tina, after the gunfight at Royal Gorge Bridge, decides Gil is crazy and she bows out. That leaves the evil Gail and gorgeous Sarah. Sarah figures out Gail's game. Between warring women, warring gangs, and those who would challenge the mafia, there is plenty of excitement, dead bodies, suspense, and two heroic dogs

As usual this book did not disappoint !!! I have read all the Gil Mason & Max books and loved everyone of them. Pilgrim has my heart, I want to take him home with me!! Yours books have made me laugh, cry, get angry & cheer for Gil & Max. Although sometimes I think Gil can be pretty dumb!! I.e. Gail deceit, Sarah’s feeling. Without giving any spoilers I LOVE THE LAST TWO PAGES OF THE STORY!!! Can’t wait to read the next one. You can’t go wrong with this book or the series

Wow, very well interwoven plot line, with tons of action! Gil spends most of the book being framed for the murder of a man he didn't even know with enough false evidence to make it stick. Then there is Gail, who is on trial for murdering her husband. She is representing herself and doing a really good job of pinning it on Gil. Don't forget the Family and biker gangs. Max, and even Pilgrim, play a big part in this one.

love the Gil Mason books
All 7 of this series have been Cliff hangers, I’m morphing into an all night reader because of them. Just Don’t want to put them down. Gil is a great character but not the brightest bulb in the pack. Love Max and Pilgrim, but hoping Pilgrim retires comfortably and not by cruel means even if he’s fighting his best fight. The 3 woman angle was interesting but a little fake at times. Read this you’ll love it!

Great ending!!
This book was a little slow to get started (for me). The back and forth was not as immediately captivating as this series is normally (again for me). I found it a little disappointing that Gil, a Marine, a former law officer, a K9 trainer, and a PI, was blind to the game Gail was playing by imitating his late wife. I guess some men are not too hard to fool at times. This story has many twists and turns before a very well-deserved ending!!

Their enemies seem to be multiplying on all sides, with unforeseen forces at odds with them. Even the enemies of their enemies.
High suspense throughout, interspersed with Gordon Carroll's signature brand of humor that makes me bust out laughing, this is his best book yet in the series.
I am rushing on to Book 8!

What a series!
From the first book to the last, this series is a Rollercoaster ride of emotion and action. It has it all! The characters remain true to their core while experiencing life and spirit altering transformations. Gordon Carroll is a master at his craft. Thank you, sir, for your service and sharing your gifts.

Very interesting
This story has a lot of twists and turns. It's so good that I had to keep reading without stopping just to find out what was happening next. Billy wants Gil to teach him how to be a private investigator. In the meantime Gil gets arrested for something he didn't do. And on and on. Wow!

Enraptured!
Gordon Carroll uses his background in military and police departments to run a professional private investigator service with his two K9 dogs. Always on the side of the right he does whats necessary to keep safe the people he cares about----most of them involving gun violence or the explosive violence of the K9's Well written and I'm moving on to book 8

Can a trial be such a bad thing? Yup.
This was so much about a trial that you just wanted to skip ahead some. There was too much mental play. And then throw in the danger of others trying to kill them. So the best part of our story is the very last part. And Max is in trouble, but so is Viper.

Love , love Gil Mason series
This series is so good that when it comes out I don't even hesitate to buy it. The only problem is the wait for the next one. I love to hear the story from their point of view. I must admit Max and Pilgrim are my favorite characters.

Good dog
Once again, Gordon does not disappoint. I enjoy his books so much,although I'm always fearful that one of the dogs is going to die. I'm hoping that never happens . I anxiously await the next installment, hope it's soon....

Prison time?
Fast moving action and really hard to put down. Gordon is an author to read if you haven't started yet. Everything has a reason and Gil, Max and Pilgrim move with grace and get things done quick and easy! All of Gordon's work is amazing and will wait for more.

Holy Cow!
What I liked about this book is everything. There were times I put it down because I thought I knew what was coming next only to be dead wrong. Always enjoy the humor around the dogs.

Amazing read!
I really enjoyed this book. So much action and suspense! Gil, Max and Pilgrim—the perfect heroes. And new puppies too! Can’t wait to see how Max reacts to being a dad.

Best yet
I've been reading this series for a couple of weeks and think this one was the best yet. Writing, characters, plot a little more polished, less overdone religion and violence than last two.

Mr. Carroll, I applaud your seriously vicious writing style. Don't want to give anything away but I will say I felt a bit squeamish in some bits. Sad about our justice system.

it did come together
I thought this was one time that maybe Caroll was not going to be able to pick up all the loose ends. Of course I was wrong. It was all neatly pulled together as always.

This book, like all the rest in the series is FABULOUS!!!! Edge of your seat excitement…..I’m trying hard not to finish it too fast!
